I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Well since the hard drive is the only real wear item, that would surely be suspect. Does the hard drive make any strange sounds? If you can get into Window and open a command prompt, you can check the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive by typing the command below and pressing enter. You can also run that command from Safe Mode (command prompt) wmic diskdrive get status It will return a status of each drive of OK, Bad, Caution or Unknown. If is returns anything other than OK, then your drive may be bad. You might also try removing and re-seating the RAM modules by following the steps outlined on page 45 of the user manual linked below. Lenovo V470/V570/ B470/B570/B570e User Guide V2.0https://download.lenovo.com/UserFiles/UserGuide/en/User's%20guides%20and%20manuals/B570e/Lenovo%20V4... Note: If you cannot get Windows to boot at all, and you have not backed up your data, you may want to have it looked at by a computer shop right away, because they can remove the drive, attempt to backup your data, and replace the hard drive if needed. If the drive is failing, the more you use (or try to repair the system) the greater the chance the drive will fail completely. Best of luck,

Hi everyone, I have a battery issue with my V570 ideapad. While running on battery, when I pick up the computer by the corner, it suddenly shuts down. It seems that the battery is disconnected by a torque on the computer. This problem does not occur while I am plugged in. I have opened up the computer and looked at the connections, but I could not fix the problem. I have also tried to tape the battery on the chassis so it would not move, but the computer still shuts down when picked up.  Does anybody knows how to fix this problem?

A:V570 shuts down when picked up

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

I assume that your shut down problem on battery is only when you do a one hand carry?  If so, does the problem occur when you do a two hand carry?

A one hand carry is never a good idea as with some laptops the internal components can flex due to the hanging weight.  I've worked on some laptops that were flexed so much that components were popping off the motherboard.

Hello all, I have a Lenovo V570 that is I believe 4 years old. Everything on it works great still, except for one thing. If the power cord comes out so the computer is on battery power, if the screen moves even just a little bit, the computer shuts down. If it is not on battery power though, I can move the screen as much as I want without it shutting down. I had opened the laptop to see if something was messed up but couldn't see anything obvious. Anybody seen an issue like this before? Any ideas on how to fix this? Thank you!

Hello all!I need to have both WIN 7 x64 PRO as well as WIN 7 x86 PRO on my V570. I made two partitions, installed firstly WIN7 x86, but the V570 would't let me install WIN7 x64 on the second partition. I also tried to install firstly WIN7 x64, but the V570 wouldn't let me to install WIN x86 on the second partition. Obviously V570 wouldn't accept both OS on the same HDD.  It accepts either two partitions with WIN 7 x86 or two partitions with WIN 7 x64. Any suggestions guys?

I have a Lenovo V570. Since yesterday, at startup I error message that says "01011001 keyboard stuck key" briefly flashes on the screen and then the boot sequence continues. Quite often when I am at a log on screen, I get a series of asterisks, apparently indicating spurious entry of some key. It is sometimes difficult to delete all the spurious entries in order to enter the correct info. I opened a spreadsheet and the lower case u kept repeating. What was interesting was that the cursor bounced around on its own and entered u's in various cells. I've also noticed that the finger pad locks up until I press either the escape or control key. I've run a couple virus scans with negative results and also did a system restore to two weeks ago (long before the problem started) but the problem continues. I've also googled the error code but didn't come up with anything. I don't think anything got spilled in it. It was working fine several days ago and sat in my laptop bag next to my desk. It just suddenly started doing this out of the blue. Anyone have any idea what this means and how do I fix it?

Hi there,I recently purchased a new Lenovo IdeaPad v570 from Best Buy. I have had problems with boot-up. The boot-up time is slow for a new computer (usually a minute) and I also have found things in the Event Log that don't look too good. Before this, I had also had problems with startup. It said it needed to do a Startup Repair, and would not go to login screen. I fixed it by going to safe boot, and going to reboot with last used settings that worked. Since you have not indicated the processor used I can't give you much detail. If you base it only on the specs you can only use 2 sticks or module with a max rating of 1333 Mhz each depending on the processor. As to the other specs details you have to locate the specs of the processor that you are using in the intel site. There you will know whether you can use 1600 Mhz plus other details. One thing for sure is that the max that you can use is 16 GB only if the processor allows it since you can't find a 16 GB module in the market to achieve 32 GB per processor spec.

It's not a good idea to use a different manufacturer's adapter if you can help it. Why not lengthen the AC cord instead?

Here's a 12 foot AC cord that should fit your adapter:

They are available, and you might even be able to find one locally. I believe that Digi-Key has offices all over the place, so you should be able to order it from them and have it delivered to you.

I'm having a difficult time finding ANY update information relating to Windows 10 for my Lenovo V570. The V580 appears on several "update" and "download" pages on Lenovo's site.....but nothing for the 570. Has my laptop passed some sort of critical "age barrier" that I'm not aware of? This page, for exampe: http://support.lenovo.com/ca/en/downloads/ds014924, is a place where you can download the Power Manager utility for your Lenovo laptop.........UNLESS you own the V570. The 580 is there, but NOT the 570.Did I not get the email announcing that my laptop is over the hill? (Yeah, I know, that page says for Win 7 computers....but Lenovo doesn't know what OS I'm running!!) To make matters worse, THIS page (and many other Lenovo pages) invite me to click a button to "Automatically scan your system and get the latest available updates". Problem is, when I CLICK the Start Scan button...I get an error that says "Your system is not supported for system updates". Again, I must have missed the email. To add insult to injury, there is, apparently no way to contact an actual Lenovo employee to ask the question: WHEN DID YOU STOP ALL SUPPORT FOR THE V570??? Disappoinging, Lenovo.....to say the least.

Hi, on my laptop the control key is ALWAYS pressed. I can't fix it no matter what. I tried prying off the key with a screwdriver & making sure nothing was jammed in there, there's nothing wrong with the key itself, it looks great on the inside.

Now here's the kicker:

The CTRL key is ALWAYS on, however, if I open the on screen keyboard program, it fixes the problem. Which makes me think it's a windows issue rather than an actual physical keyboard issue.

I'm at the point now where I'm just going to re install windows if I can't fix it

if that doesn't work I'll take it to a repair shop (So expensive..yikes)

So, any suggestions guys?

Any help is extremely appreciated.

P.S - It does this EVEN if an external keyboard is connected.

A:Lenovo v570 laptop - CTRL key always stuck down

The on-screen keyboard would be expected to perform correctly because it's a virtual keyboard in Windows and not mechanical. Despite your hesitation I can't imaging this being a Windows issue. However the problem replicating on an external keyboard is vexing. Is it USB or PS3?

When did you first notice this? How does it manifest itself? A Cntrl command is executed when you type a letter?

Stick around as someone will likely recognize the issue or have an idea that helps.

I think I know my answer, because I bought my laptop as a refurb almost 5 years ago, but . . .

Can someone help me determine if my Lenovo V570 s/n WB02029962 is capable of keeping up with Windows 10 updates? I have Home, so I can't turn off the Creator update (or any other). It now won't install any update requiring restart without also trying to install Creator, so I'm pretty close to hosed.

While I seem to have all the required specs, I note that the Lenovo support items for my machine very pointedly stop at one or another version of Windows 8. Don't mention 10 anywhere. So I'm wondering if anyone can help me with that sorta macro-troubleshoot (can I even keep using this machine) before I get into micro-troubleshooting . . .

I had some other big problems lately, which I thought were unrelated to Win10, and just a fluke caused by some mucking around I did way back here: Dual-Boot after the fact?.

When I did that 2+ years ago, I wound up having to reconstruct my BCD. On Crash Wednesday of February this year, I lost, completely, my boot partition. Hello, I'm fairly new to the forums as well as building computers. I currently use a Lenovo Ideapad V570 and would like to play games that require a better graphics card other than the Intel (R) HD Graphics 3000. The game I would like to try and play is a new game called Overwatch, that can be run by these cards. Reading other posts/forums/articles, I know that I need a graphics card, bplus board, and psu. But I don't know what to buy with a $400~500 budget and whether it'll work with my laptop. I would like to have some suggestions about which affordable components to get for the GPU. For the graphics card, I am honestly okay with anything as long as I can play Overwatch on it (it just looks so good to play haha...) Thank you!

I found this procedure on a lenovo forum. Give it a shot and see if it works for you. If not, it is not worth putting money into fixing this laptop.. New ones are pretty cheap and having a new mb installed in this one will cost more than a new laptop.

BTW the spelling errors are from the forum NOT mine.

Bios recovery procedure

How to Recover a bad or brick bios in lenovo laptops:

1.Download Phoenix Wincrisis then Click on the WINCRIS.exe and choose CREATE MINIDOS CRISIS DISK and press START to make: USB Flopy or usb flash memory.
When creating the boot Floppy or usb memory, select from Folder Options to view the hiden and system files and delete or rename the file config.sys if present.
2. Download your Bios file from lenovo.com if u dont have it, Rename your BIOS file to bios.wph and copy it to your: USB Floppy/usb memory.
3.Plug USB Floppy/usb memory into laptop and shotdown.
4. Hold down Fn+R keys and while holding press the power button.
5. Now you should hear the flopy drive working or usb blinking, hold the keys for a while.
6. Leave the computer for few min. and if the computer does not restart it self turn the power down.
7. if everything went OK the computer shold start normally.

Hello all,

About a week ago my Lenovo v570 began acting up. Long story short, as a last resort (last meaning I was pricing replacement hard drives), I wiped my entire hard drive, hidden partitions and all. I have spent countless hours working to get this thing back in working order and I may, after 30+ hours, be on the right track.

After doing a lot of research and reading a lot of threads, this is where I'm at:

As I mentioned, I completely wiped the hard drive, I created a 100GB partition to install Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit (which is the same OS that was pre-loaded) and have left the other 650GB unallocated for now. I formatted the new partition and began to install Windows, which, after all the trouble I've gone through, even getting to this point was a huge step.

Well, as the title suggests, the install hangs at 0% at step 1 of the installation process. I have tried both DVDs as well as using a flash drive (that is already formatted to NTFS) which I used the Windows 7 Download Tool to create. I have gone to the BIOS and mixed and matched nearly every plausible option, without luck. I disabled USB legacy at times, switched from ACHI to Compatibility, disabled the wireless option via BIOS, unplugged all USB devices (unless using the USB install method) and everything else I could possibly think of.

Even before I was forced to completely wipe the hard drive and was trying to salvage my information, I did an install which made it further along (before ultimately gett... Read more

Enter BIOS setup to see if there are any listings to indicate you have an EFI mobo. If so, you'll need to follow special steps to reinstall: UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums

If not we need to first confirm the installer. Where did you get Win7? Is this a known-good DVD which has installed before? If not confirm the installer ISO or download another from the official download link given in these steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7 Factory OEM.

If a confirmed ISO DVD burned with MS tool or ImgBurn at 4x speed fails, next write to flash stick using MS tool or Universal USB Installer with Win7 in dropdown menu. Boot using one-time BIOS Boot menu key under USB, Removable or HD's.

If it fails, unplug the DVD drive as well as all other HD's and peripherals to try again.

Next check the Lenovo Support Downloads webpage for your model for newer BIOS version update. Read the download info or the Read Me file in download to see if it might apply. If not, reset BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS. While in BIOS setup set SATA controller to AHCI to try install, then IDE mode if it fails.

Next test your RAM and HD from these troubleshooting steps.

Report back results for more steps, including possible installing in another machine to moved HD: SysPrep to move HD to another computer

Having thoroughly read (1)Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions, (2)Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD and (3)How to Run Disk Check in Windows 7, I'm still having problems in my ability extract the info requested in the previously mentioned posts that might allow someone to more easily assist me.

First of all, the machine is a Lenovo V570 running Windows 7 Home Prem 64-bit on a Toshiba MK6465GSX 640GB HDD with 6GB RAM. It is a friend's laptop...explaining the lack of precautionary backups or system images that could take this process in a different direction.

Before I explain what I have done and encountered, let me say that I have been unsuccessful in extracting any dump files or running a Disk Check that successfully "logs". I realize that my chances for assistance will be significantly diminished because of this. Hopefully someone reading this will see why or offer other suggestions based on the following documentation of what I have done and thus far encountered.

The BSOD screen goes by so fast that I had to take a video of it happening. It only lasts for 3 or 4 frames on my camcorder. Here is a frame of that:

Good morning, SF and BSOD teams:

I've been suffering from random BSODs on my Lenovo V570 laptop running Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit on numerous occasions. This issue currently springs up at seemingly-random times, although there might be some correlation with me trying music-related activities (e.g. opening WinAmp, Google Play Music, etc.). The on-screen BSOD information consistently mentions power management driver, hence the reference in this post's title.

Some history with this laptop: I purchased it new in Sept 2011 - no issues
Shortly thereafter, I installed Ubuntu with a full disk wipe, re-format, and re-partition
After frustrations with Linux, I reinstalled Win 7 with a freshly-purchased retail full license (e.g. not the OEM recovery disk)
Note: it was after this event that the BSODs started to occur
I've since reinstalled Linux and Win 7 at least one or two times, each time with a full disk wipe/format/re-partition and seemingly successful installation.

One additional note: during each of the Win 7 installs, it seems as though virtually none of the expected drivers are available. I have to manually install ethernet, wi-fi, graphics, etc. before the thing starts behaving as expected. Again, this was all using the legitimate retail full Win 7 install disk and drivers directly from Lenovo's support site.

In any event, I would greatly appreciate any help on this issue.

Thanks!
-Danny

My brother's computer: Lenovo v570 laptop running Windows 7, 64-bit Intel Core i5 processor, 750 GB hard drive, 6 GBs of RAM, integrated graphics

I'm trying to help my brother fix his laptop, but it's nearly impossible. I'm fairly well-versed in this type of black magic, but this was so unyielding that I'm forced to post here.
"The other night I tried starting my laptop, and it asked me if I wanted to go into startup repair or boot normally, which I thought was strange, and I just chose to start normally, and it BSOD'd before the time the login screen would usually come up. I figured there might be a potential issues because I had postponed restarting my computer a couple of days after Windows updates were done. I usually keep my computer clean, protected by Kaspersky and Malwarebytes, etc. so I figured that the update would be the most likely culprit.
I tried to do a system repair off the recovery hard drive, and it didn't work. Then I tried launching into safemode, still BSOD'd; the "last known good configuration" wouldn't boot either. I tried multiple system restore points, and they gave various errors. None worked, however. Some said it couldn't read the memory at some sort of address, and others said something about setupapi.dll. It's sort of time consuming to get the exact error.
I also tried sfc /scannow and it said there was a system repair pending and to restart t... Read more

Battery Issue - Lenovo V570 (Laptop) - Battery Model L09S6Y02

First off I for the most part do not use the battery. It is normally detached from the laptop. I only attach it to periodically charge it and test prior existing charges' performance.

O.K. here is the problem. I attach battery attachment, computer does not make it to the window screen more often than not. When it does, it freezes at the please wait loading screen.

I rarely use the battery at all, but I want all my equipment up and functional. It's life should still be good for I periodically recharge it. I think since I've had the laptop I've only recharged it a total of 6 or 7 times and that's been a year or so.

I, for the moment at least have the battery working power adapter attached. What did I do? I uninstalled Avast (freeware version) ?

I learned from prior experience that running two of any system utility software can cause problems, but it normally restricts itself to what it is protecting. Then I remembered: "If you remove the possible whatever is left however in probable must be the truth."

Next phase of testing is test the battery on it's own.

A:PC booting up shuts down

You are probably looking at a hardware error that may be the hard drive, video card, power supply, mother board or other hardware. What OS? XP?

Right click 'my computer'>manage in the system event log there may be a clue of what is shutting the machine down. Note entries that are near the time the machine shuts down (not starts up). the entries are kinda cryptic but you can figure some out.

Also right click 'my mycomputer' > properties>advanced> startup and recovery>settings>sytem failure area, make sure write event to log is checked and you can uncheck the 'restart system' on failure box. When system failure happens next maybe the machine staying up will provide a clue to the problem. You may have to hit the power button to reboot after it locks up...

this could be as simple as a loose cable or as you predicted the hard drive.

I am having problems with my desktop computer with Windows 7 32-bit home deluxe booting. I try to power it up and everything goes okay for a while. Eventually the windows logo comes up, but then the computer shuts down without warning. Once this happens, the computer seems mostly unresponsive to a restart using the power button. Press power on does something (some lights come on), but it doesn't even get to the Bios. I have to turn off the power supply then turn it back on. Then when I press power on, the computer tries to boot up again. A couple of days ago when this first happened, upon reboot Windows entered a "startup repair" process. After this, the computer was able to boot. However, trying to boot today is even worse. While Windows is running the startup repair and tries to boot, the computer does the shut down thing again.

I'm not sure if it's a heat issue, as I've tried to boot from room temperature. Mind you, I don't know how long it takes for things to heat up, maybe 30s is all that is needed?

What really confuses me is that I have to cycle the power supply in order to boot again. Maybe there is a simple explanation for that though.

During the startup repair I'm given the option to do a restore, so I'll try that next.

thanks

A:Booting shuts down unexpectedly

It sounds to me like your power supply or something that connects your motherboard/devices to your power supply is failing. If the computer can't receive power properly then that's definitely the problem. If all the other devices were booting yet certain devices weren't then it could be something else, but since it's everythnig it's probably the power supply.

Depending on what kind of computer you have and how many devices you have you will need a power supply of atleast 350-400 watts or more. If you've built your own computer you'll know what you need, if not, check the rating on your old power supply.

If you don't need anything more than 430 watts, one of these will do nicely:

I built a new computer (my 2nd) and am trying to boot from the XP Professional disk and after about 2 minutes - the computer shuts off. I have a 500w power supply - an Intel Core 2 2.66 chip - a Gigabyte S series MB and a 500 GB sata hard drive. Everything appears to be connected right...HELP !

A:New Computer Shuts Off Booting Xp Pro

If you mean that you are trying to install XP on a new system...the best suggestion I can give is...just go back and start from the beginning on the connections because something is not right.

If you are saying that you can actually get a POST and get into the BIOS...and boot from the optical drive...but XP cannot load from the CD to memory...maybe you need to take a look at your memory.

At what point in the install process...does the system give up? Two minutes doesn't tell any of us very much, other than I think it takes about 5 min for XP to read from the CD to memory.

First, I don't know where to post it... I've got a weird problem - my system (windows7 home 32) shuts down after loading windows... even in safe mode or while trying to boot from cd to do system repair. CPU is fine, RAM too, no hardware changes, no new software, everything seems to be normal. My PC was always on, recently updated. Came home from work and saw a blue screen, after restart everything worked for another 20 minutes then system error and restart again. Windows failed to boot, asked for system repair. So i did - booted my original Windows7 from DVD - power went off automatically after loading.
Its been few days now, still can't figure out what's wrong....

I believe this problem has to do with my newly bought AMD Phenom 9950 X4, 2.6GHz 4MB total L2+L3 Cache that fitsinto the AM2+ socket

When I try to start the computer everything is fine until about ½min or more. After that the computer decides it wants to shut itself down as if somebody had pulled the plug. The time when this happens can differ but it usually don't take that long.

The reason I suspect the CPU to be the problem is because if Ihave time to check the, directly translated from swedish; Device handler, it just says that the CPU's drivers haven't been installed properly.
- CPU= "Mathematic Processor -
The Bios says that the temperature is about 60-62C, which is quite high but nothing that usually shuts my computerdown. Concerning the Bios I suppose I could say that the computer also shuts down while I'm looking at the Bios, sometimes even faster. Same thing when I start the computer in Safe Mode

I'm wondering wether installing the CPU's drivers manually would help but if so I'm unsure how. Perhapsit could be put on a USB-memory stick.

My Specs are:
-Windows 7 Ultimate
-WD 500 Gb
-1Gb ramx3,
-Chieftec 560W
-Sapphire HD3875 512MB
-Asrock K10N750SLI- 110 dB link
-It doesn't say wether this MB is compatible with Win 7 but it worked fine with my former CPU, a Athlon 64 X2.
- Phenom 9950 64 bit X4 (New)
