X201 Fan not automatically starting

Q: X201 Fan not automatically starting

Hi all!I have had this issue for a long time now, but only just getting round to posting finally.I know others have posted about fan issues but mine seems different and tried everything on the other threads with no luck.I will bullet point things so it is easier to understand; *Fan will not start on boot and will stay off until temperature causes shutdown.*Fan works fine in BIOS.*If I blow into the fan to get it spinning it starts up and will then stay functional, even after reboots, until it is properly shut down.*Tried TPFanControl on each setting and fan still does not start. It does control the fan as it should if I maually kickstart the fan.*On Windows 10 - tried reverting to Windows 7 but the issue persisted so returned back to Win10.*Replaced the fan twice, no change.*Never had the "fan error" popup. I think that covers everything, and the issue seems to be the initial kick to get the fan spinning as is fine afterwards. Any help would be extremely appreciated.Regards

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I insert any cd into the dvd/cd rom bay it does not start automatically when I click the close button. I have to go to Start, My Computer, choose the CD rom and then click open. When I am trying to install software this is sometimes a problem. Not always sure which "setup" icon to use on the cd.

This has been occuring since I got the desktop.

A:cd rom not starting automatically

This may be "by design", as they say. Many programs disable autorun and autoplay because it interferes with their operation. What CD/DVD burning software do you have installed, for example?

Do you have any multimedia programs installed that you set to automatically play inserted media? They would be constantly polling the drive for media. Some drivess lights blink about once a second when programs do that.

I have a pc which I use for backups which go on for a few hours at nite times. I don't need the pc to run 24/7 so is there a way i can do unattended startup and shutdown? My BIOS doesnt have that particular feature ( I know some dell computers do). Unless I could somehow use "wakeup on LAN" but not quite sure how that works. Thanks.

A:Automatically starting a pc at a given time

If it's not in the BIOS, I am not aware of any way to do it apart from setting the power setup to "restart on power failure" (if that is supported) and put it on a time switch.

The batch file that does the backups could probably include a shutdown routine.

Can someone help. For the last 6 months my computer is starting up by itself every day at the same time.I can not find anything that would cause this.It is driving me crazy.I am on a dialup system for internet and am not sharing this computer with anyone. Please help if you can.
Thank you

A:Computer Starting Up Automatically

Try this free, online scan of your system: http://safety.live.com/If it comes up clean, then we can try some other stuff to get at the root of this. Most likely cause is spyware trying to phone home. Next most likely is a legitimate program trying to phone home. The safest course for you is to unplug the phone line when you're not using the computer (until we get this sorted out). You can install a free software firewall - such as the last freeware edition of Sygate Personal Firewall, or the free version of Zone Alarm. This will provide an alert when something tries to access the Internet. Since this problem occurs at the same time every day it should be fairly easy to associate it with a particular program.

I had it at one time and thought it was taking too much time so I removed it from the

I have dragged the Outlook icon to the Start button, then to All Programs, then to Start-up,

What am I doing wrong?

Hi jerestig,
Welcome to TSG. Try navigating to the Startup folder through Windows Explorer. For me, it's at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. Once you have the folder open, you can drag the Outlook icon into it. Hope that helps.

hi, sorry if this is not the right section to post this, i wasnt sure D:

anyway, so im a bit of a gamer and whilst gaming the other day i got incredible lag spikes which prompted me to download a program to view whats downloading data at any given time. And when i started it up i noticed that svchost.exe was at 200,000K memory usage and was downloading data which was making me lag horribly. so i ended the process a few different times in task manager until one time i booted my pc and there was no svchost at that memory usage and never one downloading and now a few services say they are automatic but do not start automatically, and i have to start them manualy, namely these services are

-dhcp client
-themes
-windows zero configuration

so at the moment i have 3 .bat files in the startup folder that initiate these services on start up but it takes a while and i would think it would be better for my system to run the svchost.exe like its supposed to.

what do i do D:

thankyou for your time and patience

I'm running Windows 10. I'd like to know if it's possible to run chkdsk /f automatically. I every time I boot up, I get a BSOD with the hated BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO message. Chkdsk /f is the only way to prevent this from happening. Unfortunately I have to type it in manually every time I boot up.

I've tried everything imaginable, short of a total wipe and reinstall, to get rid of this error message. Nothing works except chkdsk /f on bootup. Does anyone know how I can run chkdsk automatically or, even better, eradicate the BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO message?

Sorry if this is a stupid question or explained badly.I have put two programs into the Startup Folder (Docs & Settings/Me/Start Menu/Programs/Startup), so they start automatically. When running, they're visible in the Taskbar.I'd like Outlook Express to be the first to load, so it will always be at the LH side of the Taskbar - it's easier to find when it's there. However, the second of my two programs (Firefox) now opens first and loads several "tabs" (one for each open window) before Outlook Express appears. I'e tried adding the Firefox shortcut to Startup after I've added the OE shortcut, but that doesn't help. Maybe they open alphabetically - F(irefox) or M(ozilla) before O(utlook)?Whatever, is there a way I can manage the order of opening? Or, a way to manage the "tabs" on the Taskbar? Thanks

A:Automatically Starting Programs

Hello. Welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Yes, the programs in the startup folder are loaded alphabetically. So you would want to name the short cuts:
a_firsttostart
b_second
c_third
etc...

Remember what you put in are just shortcuts, so it won't affect anything else.

I'm not exactly sure when it stopped doing this but it has and I would really like it set up the that again. I'm sure there is a simple answer to this so I thought I would ask.

The 2 PC's are in different rooms so if I can get it set up like that again it would be such a help

Does anyone have any suggestions at all.

However I found that using Remote Session Desktop they can perform like a champ. Not bad for $99+keyboard/mouse.

My question is; can you make the Stick PC automatically open/log in a Windows remote session on the 'server'?

I recently installed Microsoft Office 2013 and, out of curiousity, clicked on Lync. I'd never heard of it so I thought I'd try it to see what it was. It seems to be a new version of their older IM program, Microsoft Messenger. I have no interest in using this program at this time but my computer insists on launching Lync for me on every reboot.

How do I coax Windows (8.1) to NOT launch Lync automatically? I realize that uninstalling it would probably accomplish what I want but I'd rather not do that. I might find that I want to use it somewhere down the road. In the meantime, I'd simply like it to be on the computer so that I can start it via the Start menu if I really want to use it but I don't want it starting automatically on every reboot since that just uses resources that I'd rather leave available for programs that I'm actually using.

I realize I can use Task Manager to kill the Lync process manually after the reboot but I'd rather keep it from starting in the first place. How do I do that in Windows 8.1?

A:Keeping apps from starting automatically

If there is a 'Lync' entry in the Startup tab in Task Manager, right click on it and choose 'Disable'.

I'd start by installing the latest drivers for the Pre-N card. Then, maybe you should try to reset the stack and see if that helps.

On my Windows 7 Pro SP1 I tried to connect to a local NAS recently. In order to connect, I needed to enable the Workstation service first. I then realized that Workstation service relies on SMB 1.x MiniDirector low-level service which in turn was not running.
It took me a long time until I found how to enable it, there's a description in this MS KB: article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2696547/how-to-detect-enable-and-disable-smbv1-smbv2-and-smbv3-in-windows-and. In short, I had to execute the
following command:
sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/mrxsmb20/nsi

sc.exe config mrxsmb10 start= auto
Unfortunately, whenever I restart my computer the SMB 1.x MiniDirector service is not running
anymore, and I need to reenable it again manually. In other words, it looks like Windows 7 is ignoring the second command where I set startup mode to auto. I could not find any useful information on the net. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this?

It's not often that I go to tech support. In fact, I usually AM the tech support (for friends and family). Every so often, however, every single person comes across something that they just can't solve.

I'm not 100% sure what caused it, but it's obviously not normal. I've ruled out "virus", however. The Windows Installer service does not automatically start with the computer, and even when started manually it does not stay that way for long (anywhere from 45 sec to 4 min). I've tried setting it to automatic, to manual, installing the newest WI, setting that to automatic, and again to manual. Nothing seems to work.

This isn't a huge issue, as I don't install a lot of things. It is annoying, however. As a programmer, I make installer packages and test them. I just don't like getting "Windows installer service cannot be accessed" errors and having to open services.msc and manually starting it every time I want to install something.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have to be really careful here. You don't want to cancel any startup programs that you would need. Just be aware. This permanantly stops programs from starting up when you start windows. If you still want some of these to start up, you'll still have to close them manually.

Additionally, if you don't already, run some spyware cleaning programs. They might be contributing.

So yesterday the lights went out while I was using my computer. When they came back on, as I turned the computer on it asked how I would like to start windows. I selected to start it normally, but as it turned on it had the appearance like I was starting at safe mode. I restarted my computer to see if anything changed, but it continued this way.

It didn't seem to be a problem as I could still use my computer normally but then when I tried to use the cmd as an admin, I was met with a message that said:

C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe

The executable program that this is configured to run in does not implement the service.

It seemed that everything that included admin permission wouldn't start, as I tried many other programs and functions.

So I tried looking online to see if there was any way that I could make the computer not start in safe mode, and I ended up trying to enter in the msconfig but I was met with the same error message.

Does someone know the solution to this problem? Sorry if it's something simple, I just never really used safe mode before so I don't really know how to work it.

Hi,
I have IE starting automatically on the msn.com web page and I would like to remove that.
I checked the Internet Explorer is NOT listed in the startup program list.
Any idea why this is happening ? Registry key maybe ?
Thanks

I do recall that there is some way to go to the "run" window and enter a program name (?) so that I get to another window and can click the start up menu tab and remove a check mark so that a given program does not automatically start up when I turn my computer on.

I'm actually looking for the combination of letter that one enters in the "run" window to get this accomplished; a nd, would very much appreciate a line from anybody who can possibly help me recall how to do this.

Thanks.

Don't know your OS but try Start / Run / msconfig / startup tab. Should work in all but I believe Win 2000

Hi everyone,

I installed windows 64 bit over the consumer preview.

I always install peerblock, usually without problem.

However, in windows 8; although it installs fine, it isn't autostarting. - I have to click on the shortcut to boot it - then it runs fine. (it's set to autoboot in the prog).

Is there a setting that I need to select for Win8 please, or don't the windows people want it to run properly?

Any help welcome please.

Many thanks.
