Q: Online Video Not playing but audio is

I have recently been going to major news sites such as CBS and NBC, but also some other video streaming sites. When I press play, I get a giant 3,2,1.... and then no actual video image plays but only the audio. I'm not sure how or why this started. And so, that is why I am asking for assistance so I can actually go back to watching videos online.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This is inexcusable! I paid over a grand for my Dell. Does Dell care that I don't even make a living wage? Capitalists are freaking monsters. And you won't get me to change my mind about that no matter how many hospitals in Yemen you bomb or how much you rant about non existent Russian aggression. Cost cutting? I think neoliberal capitalism, and gangster Corporatocracy and mafia capitalism are all things we can't afford, ergo... I don't even earn a living wage while corporations cost cut, job cut. tax evade and push governments to sign evil "free trade" agreements giving them more power, at our expense. Windows 7 64bit SP1 Retail
Fresh install (cleanness debatable - I will elaborate later)
Latest drivers from motherboard and graphics manufacturers website.
No outstanding windows updates
Latest Flash Player
Latest Firefox
Full DirectX install

My problem:
As far as I have noticed it seems to be when viewing videos online I get regular BSOD, I have not noticed if that is the only time they are occurring and have failed in taking note of the errors, but then I remembered the amazing BSOD Team here and thought it'd be worth a post to shed some light.
Also firefox just seems to randomly crash a lot, it so far has always recovered my tabs though.

Here is the required data, what an awesome tool, nice work jcgriff2!
Attachment 179057
Further information on the recent install:

I initially used RT Lite to strip out a load of stuff prior to install, needless to say I took too much away and ruined the windows experience. So I stuck in my retail disk from the live OS and ran the installer in upgrade mode from there. Putting back all of the windows functionality I have come to know and love (such as thumbnails) and removing only IE, Media Player, Media Centre and Movie Maker.

Since then I have installed the driver again using nvidia's "clean install" option in the setup.exe

Many thanks in advance, I know you get busy in this category.

I have a Dell inspiron 1545 w/ 4gb ram, 250gbhd and I am running windows vista. Whenever I watch any movies/shows online the sound comes out perfect but the video is like snapshots. It doesn't matter if I go to abc to watch free shows or youtube it all plays like snapshots. My dell is almost a year old and should not have problems with playing video. I checked my internet speed and it ranges from 10mbps to 18+. Video plays fine on my macs but not the dell, so I'm pretty sure it isn't my internet. Any thoughts? Thanks for any advice.

Hi. I just established a wireless internet connection with my router downstairs, and I'm having a problem with flash video online. Still having the same problem. I use Opera mainly, but it happens w/ other borwsers also. If I go to G4TV.com and try to watch a video it'll get the whole buffer stream start to play and then pause and move on to the next video or menu screen. I'm not sure how this started. When it started is about a month ago. I know this isn't a common problem, but its very annoying and starting to piss me off!

OK so I just got this new HD TV and am using it as a monitor. Its a 26" HD 1080p LCD with a VGA input available. So I know the issue is not bandwidth I'm runnen at 8Mbs on average and I know its not the VGA because I get the same issue when I use the HDMI and try and play like hulu full screen on my HD 55". I suspect the issue here is my video card. Its only a 512 so I figure this is the issue not to mention its a budget card...$65 2 years ago! Although this things a trooper I have to give it props I am amazed at what it can run.

The issue is when I try and play online video from a site like comcast or hulu full screen the video gets really choppy and bugs the crap out of me. I think I just need to get a better video card but I want to insure this is the problem. I have questioned if its the video card since I can play a HD video on my PC just fine full screen. Hi beneficii,

The crashes are mostly caused due to the GPU driver ATI Video driver ( atikmdag.sys) and 1 by a touchpad driver called SynTP.sys
Please check your manufacturers site for updates for AMD GPU drivers and the touchpad.
If the drivers for the AMD GPU are already up to date, try to remove the Catalyst Control Center and only install the Display Driver.

I have a computer that crashes when playing Battlefield 2, but it seems to only crash when playing online. Sometimes it will crash when loading the servers. And, not just the program, the whole computer reboots. =\

It has an nVidia card in it, running Windows XP Home. It has 768mb ram.

Updated DirectX
Tried different memory sticks
Reinstalled the game

Recently, the power supply went on the machine. BF2 crashed previously, but at a much lower frequency. Now, it's difficult to get more than 5 minutes of gameplay in before it crashes.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The systems I have worked on that crash under gameplay have usually come down to heat, power supply transients and VCC sag, or driver issues. Interesting though that it seems to be limited to online gameplay.

I usually start by clamping an oscilloscope or VOM on the 5 volt rail and watching for instability. If that looks good I look at the 12 volt rail and the CPU VCC. I also remove the cpu heatsink/cooler and check to make sure it has not warped. If it looks flat, I reapply thermal paste and reassemble it. If the problem still shows up, you might try running with the case open, just to see if it is a residual heat problem in the case.

I would search around and see if anyone else is having issues with whatever version video drivers you have installed. Sometimes the latest are not the greatest...

Looks like you have already tried swapping out the memory. You might try under-clocking the board temporarily to see if that prompts a stable platform. That can indicate that something is deteriorating.

Good luck sorting it all out!

Hi everyone,

A few days ago my computer started freezing whenever I watched video with any media player or online. The video will play from anywhere between 30 seconds and a few minutes. I'm getting no error codes, no BSOD, no screen tear or blocks, the video and audio just freeze and I get no keyboard or mouse response so I have to restart the computer. I get no problems just being online or using word processors, seems only problem is when I play video or play games.

I've had issues with my graphics card before so I'm guessing that's the problem again, but I'm not sure so that's why I'm here.

My computer specs are:

Intel i5 2500k Sandy Bridge
ASrock P67 Pro3
8GB G.Skill Ripjaw
ASUS nVidia GTX 560Ti
650W PSU

I just ran FurMark stability test on fullscreen and I was averaging 100fps and 75C for 60k frames with no problems. Don't know if that helps at all.

If you need more info I'll do what I can to get it for you. Thanks for taking any time to help me out.

Hello. I need your advice or assistance with a specific issue.

When I play long videos on YouTube (Say over 5 minutes long.) sometimes (not always) I get an issue with the video playing at the near or the end of the video.

These are the sequence of steps of what is happening near the end or a later part of the playing video:

1. Video usually instantly freezes (as a still image) while the sound is still being played. Mouse and keyboard (sometimes) not responsive and other times I can move the mouse, but none of the buttons like closing the web browser will close. This can last 1-2 seconds. I notice at times too when I click on another system activity, for example clicking on another tab in the browser while the video is playing, this video freeze will happen instantly in a longer playing video too.

2. After the frozen still image which lasts for 1-2 seconds , the screen flashes quickly black a couple of times for a total time of 1-2 seconds.

3. After the brief black screen flashes, I get the screen clipping I have attached here (see below). The video screen is solid green, and the message from the notification area stating, "Display driver stopped responding and had recovered. Display driver AMD driver stopped responding and has successfully recovered." The mouse and keyboard are fully operational at step 3. The video will not respond. Obviously, video play cannot be resumed. I have to close the browser window and start all over again if I want to... Read more

A:Online Video Playing Issues -- Freezes & Crashes???

The green video is a known bug with Flash. It isn't AMD or Nvidia specific and can happen on either equally. It can also happen from one driver update to the next, with no real rhyme or reason as to when or why it happens.

Not sure that I have ever seen what exactly causes it or if it will ever be fixed. That said one of the fixes for it is to disable the hardware acceleration support in Flash. Just right click on the video (normal or green) and select settings, then uncheck "enable hardware acceleration". Refresh the page and it should be OK.

That should take care of the green video problem and hopefully also fix the other problems with flash videos crashing the driver.

I went on my computer yesterday (Windows XP) and was having problems playing videos. I only get a few seconds of choppy video and then it goes black. (YouTube,Yahoo, etc)

I then tried playing a video file on my computer and it worked fine, except there was no audio. I tried .wma in Windows Media Player and .mp3 songs in Itunes, no sound.

I scanned my computer with MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware and it didn't find anything. I then restarted the computer and everything was working fine.

But today (about the same time as yesterday) I had the same problem. All of a sudden, online videos stopped working and audio was gone.

Restarted it again and now it's back to normal.

Hi. Thank you for your time and expertise
For a while now I've had mostly BSOD 0x00000124 appearing on my screen when watching online videos(except YouTube) or whenever I played PC games on maximum video settings.
I decided to re-install Windows, assuming that software is the problem. Though after that not only did the BSOD stay, but also my computer started freezing randomly(on start-up, while installing updates, browsing the internet).
Also I installed Zorin OS 6. After a few minutes of browsing the internet(using Chrome) it also froze.
I tried running MemTest86+(using a CD) but after about 10 min. the computer screen shuts down on its own.
What should I do?

Hi I just built my computer about a month and a half ago and made sure my hardware was secured tightly and properly onto the mother board. I updated all of the drivers for the PC to the best of my knowledge due to receiving BSOD in the beginning partly because the drivers were not up to date. After the driver updates everything is working great from playing games and the usual day to day use of the PC. But when I started streaming two windows of online videos from either youtube or any other video site, thats when it started to give me the BSOD. But it was sporadic and not crashing with every single video playback. It would crash on some videos and not on others. I did some research and found a software called bluescreenview which captures the BSOD codes and this was what I found: hal.dll+12a3b. I don't understand what this code means because based on my research it could be multiple factors. Please help me. Thank you.

- OS: Windows 7 64bit
- OS was full retail
- Age of the system is about two months old now.
- Age of the OS installation is about two months old.

Other hardware specs:
CPU: Intel i5-2500K @ 3.30GHz
8 Gigs of RAM

A:BSOD playing youtube or any online video streams error hal.dll+12a3b

All of them are the HAL for Windows reporting that your CPU has detected an internal failure. Given the strong consistency for these errors (they're all identical with the same cpu cache bank referenced), I'm afraid your CPU has most likely kicked the bucket.

Before you proceed on anything, if you have your system overclocked in any way, shape or fashion, reset to factory defaults. It's good sense that despite previous success with overclocking, if a system starts getting unstable, the first thing one should blame is the overclocking and reset as a result. Even if it isn't, it can easily be returned to its previous settings.

Anyways, I have sometimes seen software bugs arise that would cause this, and even once I seen a video card cause this problem (how, I have absolutely no clue). First of all, if you have any software that came with your motherboard besides the drivers, uninstall them. I've found they are very buggy as well as gimmicky, and strangely they have usually caused WHEA errors like this, making it appear the hardware is at fault. Second, update your BIOS if you haven't already, as that can potentially cause this. Lastly, run MemtestCL on your video card. Note that since you have an ATI card, you'll need to download and install the ATI APP SDK first, as it requires OpenCL.

Those should cover any potential edge cases that could create these WHEA errors. However, my opinion would be that this is certain hardware (CPU). The causes mentioned previously have the pot... Read more

Something went badly wrong with my computer since yesterday. I was deleting files in my Local Disc C (I didn't touch anything on system32 or anything that sounded important BUT there must have been something that I have touched and I don't know what it is.) and the next day, I couldn't play a video I was supposed to be watching on the internet. I tried playing my movies on my computer and it still doesn't play. It seems to be kind of stuck since the unmoving shots of the movie is there. Same with YouTube videos. It just keeps buffering and buffering and showing an unmoving shot. I've tried doing a sfc \scannow but it didn't work. I don't know what to do. There's no start-up sound, it seems like something is disabled. Can someone please tell me what to do? It would be greatly appreciated.

So here's my problem

When I watch YouTube videos I get random stutters where the sound skips. The image doesn't seem to freeze though, just the sound

I also get issues with the sound streaming music online, where it pauses for a second and stutters even though it's not buffering.

When this happens, NT Kernel & System shoots up in task manager and uses more CPU than the browser. This by the way happens in every browser, IE, Chrome or Firefox.

It doesn't happen when playing music in iTunes or watching videos from my hard drive.

That being said I'm not posting about a buffering type stutter, I am aware of that and this is not it. This is like basically suddenly the computer has a big spike in memory or cpu usage and the video/sound clip stutters for a sec. But it happens often enough to be very annoying. In a 15 min YouTube clip it happened 10 times.

I have reinstalled my IDT High Definition Codec and my Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver, but still the problem persists.

Any thoughts of what I can do?

A:Sound stutters when streaming video or audio online.

Try this test: Start a Youtube video and immediately hit the pause button. Watch the movement of the red progress bar until it fully loads the video. This obviously eliminates any buffering issues if the problem is still there when you try to play the video this way. You might also want to do a speed test on you internet connection. Here are my results:

Now, I know you are convinced that it is absolutely not a buffering issue and you have done nice testing to that end; however, I would still try the tests as described above. Good luck.

For about the past 2 weeks I started having a very annoying and strange problem watching videos and listening to any music files on my computer. When watching streaming internet videos, at random moments, for example, for 2 seconds in a 15 minute clip, a loud audio/video stutter will occur, even when the video has completely buffered, if someone is in the middle of saying something one syllable will be repeated 3-5 times, video will hitch, and then things will continue on as normal. At first I thought it was just on one site but its happening on multiple sites, in both flash and divx players, both of which I have up to date.
Now I don't think its even an internet issue, because its happening with video and music files I have on both internal and external hard drives. At seemingly random intervals the video will hitch, a syllable of dialogue will stutter, for 2-4 seconds, and then things will continue on. I have a new Gateway laptop that is running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP1. It has Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3400 @2.16ghz and 4GB of RAM.
I didn't have any of these issues prior to the last few weeks. I have broadband wireless internet, and other computers on the network play media files fine. I have kept up with windows updates, run regular malware bytes scans that have come up empty, and everything else is running fine and normal so I don't think its any sort of virus or malware causing this. What's going on, and how can I fix this?

when ever i restart my computer movie plays fine for about 5 min. then the audio starts to play slower than audio

Is there any way to tell if i have a software conflict?

A:video is playing slower than audio

Try another movie file and see what happens. You can always open it with another player. It can happen when you are running or downloading another program at the same time. Make sure nothing else is running in the background. Try these steps first. Regards Grassy

System: AMD Athlon CPU, Asus A7N266-VM motherboard, 256MB DDR RAM, 4GB HDD.

I'm unable to play any audio file using WMP9, Crystal Player & Ulead video editing software.

When I try to open an mpeg file with Crystal, I get a message 'can't init directsound for playing audio'.

When I use WMP9 or Ulead, the video file plays without any sound. WMP9 does not play any audio file - MP3, Wav either from the HDD or the CDRom player. I'm able to play CDs thru my LG CDRom player.

WMP9 gave me the following report :
0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation.
You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000

How I can fix this problem?

A:No audio when playing video files

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Go into your device manager, and check to see if there are any yellow exclamation or question marks next to your audio devices.

You could also try reinstalling the drivers for your sound device.

If you`ve got onboard sound then you will need to go to your mobo manufacturers website, and download the latest drivers from there.

If on the other hand, you`ve got a seperate soundcard, then go to the soundcard manufacturers website, and download the drivers from there.

I have a windows 7 home premium 64 bit computer. I am trying to play an avi file. It only plays the video and not the audio. Any solutions?

A:AVI file playing video and not audio

You might need to install a codec pack. If you have not installed any others give sharks a try.

Sharks007 Codec Pack.

When installed run the shortcut in admin mode. That will reset the codecs & you should be good to go.

I encountered this odd problem. I recently switched to windows 10 from 7. When I play video from the monitor (via dvi cable), it plays fine, but as soon as the big screen TV (connected via hdmi) is turned on, the sound goes off. This happens with potplayer as well as vlc player, so it's probably not application related. However, I go to windows sound setting and I can hear the test sounds (while big screen TV is on) - just not from the video. I never encountered this before in windows 7.

If you need any other information to help diagnose, please advise.

Thank you!

This laptop was used before I got it. The problem that I am having is that while I play an audio file the mouse will start to lag and the audio will make this weird buzzing sound and sometimes will sound like its in slow motion or speed up. If I try to watch a video it will either never load or lag very badly. If I don't close it out when that happens (Both audio and video) it will blue screen. The mouse also sometimes just lags when I'm doing nothing but moving it across the screen. I've ran a few virus scans that found nothing.

I don't know if this is needed. But this showed up so I copied it.

I have a Toshiba laptop running windows 7. I can play videos, cds I have sound for everything except when I try to play a video file (.mov) from an SD card. The video plays perfectly only there's no sound at all. I have tried downloading decoders, but that doesn't help besides I don't know how to use them. I have also downloaded windows 7 codecs but again the configure window looks the same as all the others & doesn"t seem to make a difference, still no sound. Any help?

i-tunes/WMP/youtube playing too fast

I have a custom built PC with an external soundcard via USB (Creative Soundblaster 24). A friend installed a new harddrive (Seagate OEM 500GB Barracuda 7200.12 Internal Hard Disk Drive)
(7200RPM, SATA, 16MB Cache) into the PC and copied all my files from an old PC to this PC. All audio/video worked fine on this PC until everything was copied over including version of microsoft xp.

Sometimes the videos/songs play normal and then other times it will go really fast or jump a second at a time.

I have a list of codecs if needed.

I really need someone to help me with this problem. Any extra information needed i will try to get it

Hello, I've been noticing something since I got my P50 that is very irritiating. I am running Windows 10 on a M.2 SSD and using the stock HDD for storage. I have a couple of games stored on the HDD along with a library of some music. Whenever I play a game, I notice 1 second freezing of both video and audio before the game resumes back. The games I'm playing are very light pre 2011 games that I used to run on my old laptop. To further cement the point, I have a dac/amp connected to the P50 via a USB port. Music will be playing and suddenly things stop for a second or so before it resumes. If I am to guess what is happening, I might say the HDD is trying to go to sleep in those moments I notice the 1 second freezing. If that is the case, what can I do to stop that ?

I've noticed that my Realtek audio driver is preventing my computer from playing online video, ie msn, etc. Yet, when I disable the Realtek driver I'm able to play the video. But, then I'm not able to hear any sound. Any suggestions on how to fix this conflict? My audio driver is the most recent driver update from the dell website. So, I know that can't be the problem.

Hi Everyone,

I used to play any movie type with my VLC media player since it has almost all the Codecs necessary for playing all video and audio files including AC3 audio (code "8192) format. Now, i can only hear the audio while playing a video file. This issue applied to all my media players (VLC, DivX, BS.Player, WMP, Media Player Classic) except Winamp. It doesn't apply to Winamp probably because i've never used it before untill this problem arised. I don't really know why.

Anyway, the problem started after i played an old and cracked DVD movie on my system with VLC. While playing the DVD, it started skipping and later on played smoothly. But after ejecting the DVD, i could no longer see images on any movie i played with any media player except for Winamp. The problem i'm having with Winamp is that it can't play all type of media files especially ones with AC3 audio (code 8192) which means you can only see the video but no audio and also does not re-index while trying to play an incomplete movie copy, unlike VLC.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installin DivX including VLC which i suspects caused the problem, but still, the problem persists.

ANY HELP, PLZ. Sorry for the long note.

Ok, I restarted my computer from a fresh boot this morning and when I opened up iTunes to play a song, I clicked the play button. It then proceeds to keep the song on 0:00, no audio no nothing. No attempt to even start the song.

Thinking it was an iTunes error I tried to play something in WMP. It did the same thing....clicked play and the song stays on 0:00. Now I tried to play a video in WMP to see if that worked, and it played extremely slowly and laggy with no audio. VLC media player is doing the same thing.

Some background on my system, it doesn't lag. I have an i7920 and the hard drive the music and audio is stored on is extremely fast. I also tried moving the music to a different HD on my system and it does the same thing. Any help is appreciated. I am going to try a system restore.

A:Music/video not playing (Not an audio problem)

A system restore fixed it. Looks like a windows update was installed. Thats the only thing that could have done it. I haven't installed anything for over a week. If you know what might have done it specifically, let me know.

Hello. I just registered. My PC keeps freezing while I watch a movie or listen to music.

It acts like in this video:
You Tube

I even plugged it into a new wall socket, and cleaned it from dust, updated Windows 10 to version 1511, and I even moved the ram memory in different slots, but the buzz still happens for a millisecond. I haven't experienced this in games afaik though.

Can anyone please help me? It is getting annoying. Before Windows 10, I had Windows 8.1, but I upgraded. This happened with Windows 8.1 as well.

My specs: Intel Core i7-4790K, 4200 MHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (4 GB) 8 GB RAM

Please someone help me. Many thanks.

Hi all,
since a few days I'm experiencing a crackling sound (glitch) when playing videos (youtube, mp4, ...) and audio (mp3).
I didn't install any new software but I guess it occured after a windows update. Unfortunately i cannot recover my pc to before the update.
I already looked up for solutions, but I'm not finding it.
I tried to find it within thee latency issues, but I was not able to find it as told in following topic:
I don't know which graph I need to check because they have other names than the one given in the diagnose topic.
Which one of these do I need?
thank you

I'm able to download both mpegs and streaming content, but it only plays the audio... not the video. I've tried several different players... it doesn't seem to matter.

Any suggestions?
