Get system sounds, but NO YouTube or game sounds. Help?

Q: Get system sounds, but NO YouTube or game sounds. Help?

I've got a weird one: I hooked the HDMI from the PC to the television and get great picture, but the sound is weird. I get system "dings" and whatnot, but I don't get the audio from games or YouTube videos. I've already tried setting the default audio device to the HDMI port, but I get sound from the speakers on the PC, not via HDMI.

The video card is an EVGA 750 Ti SC, running on a Biostar HiFi A85W.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Get system sounds, but NO YouTube or game sounds. Help?

If you have the Default Audio Playback Device set as HDMI then you should be getting sound only from HDMI. Sounds like that is not happening.

You should have the NVDIA High Definition Audio and the regular PC audio (whatever that is) shown in the Device Manager, Sounds section. If you do not have NVIDIA High Defintion Audio, or only the generic Windows installed "high Definition audio driver (codec) shown for the HDMI audio that could be the problem.

Uninstall the Video Card, in the Device Manager (do not uninstall the drivers) then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Video Card. See if this corrects the problem. If not, install or reinstall the latest NVIDIA driver.

Hi and a big thank you for giving it a try (and thought) to my problem.

I've been surfing the net for a few days now trying to find an answer to this, and nothing seems to fix this problem: I have no sound in WMP, or any other player -winamp, which I ended up uninstalling and VLC, which I downloaded just to see if the sound will come with a new player. I also don't have any sound when I put CDs or DVDs, and I tried YouTube, and also no sound.

I have a Toshiba Satellite M110 with Windows XP SP2, which seems to have everything correctly placed in terms of sound card, volume and speakers (which are redundant as I don't use any). I've scanned my laptop for malwares, trojans, viruses, you-name-it, through AVG-free Edition and online-Kaspersky, but they don't pick up anything wrong with my system.

I do, however, have system sounds, like the welcome and other sounds. Also, another thing that seems peculiar is that opening anything needing sound (WMP, YouTube) ends up freezing up the laptop, and nothing works but Spider Solitarie. Not even the Alt+Ctrl+Del works to restart the computer.

The last time I rebooted this message came up saying that the NTFS -- Type of the file system, and S3A4137D002 --- volume label had an error or something along those lines. Then it said that CHKDSK was deleting an index entry from index $0 of the file 25.

Thanks again for any help you can throw my way

Well my computer had a virus, and thanks to the awesome people on this site I was able to fix it. Prior to that I tried to fix it myself using Malwarebytes. Anyway my computer was clean and everything was running normal. However, after I uninstalled Malwarebytes I tried to play music on Musicmatch Jukebox, and I got the error: Waveout not supported. This was odd because I was able to play music on itunes and Windows Media Player. Then I realized that I also could no longer hear system sounds and that I couldn't hear sound on youtube. I checked my soundcard: Creative Sound Blaster Live, which was working fine. I tried to reinstall Windows Media Player, which didn't help. I installed K-Lite Codec pack, which also didn't help. After I uninstalled K-Lite and went back to my original codec pack, CCCP, it was then that I got a prompt telling me that I was missing some Registry Keys which would affect my computer's sound. I'm wondering if I accidentally deleted something when I uninstalled Malwarebytes. You can view my original topic here, the sound issue is on the second page.http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/276614/my-desktop-has-a-green-screen-telling-me-my-system-is-infected/Help to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated ^_^Thanks so much!

have you tried removing your sound card from device manager, reboot, when computer restarts it will find the sound card and you can then re-install the drivers.

If you plug your speakers to the rear speaker jacks. (the yellow one or the black one in your sound card), you won't get a sound in web browsers,

check where you plugged your speaker into. perhaps someone changed it.

Hi all; I have a weird problem. My Dell Dimension 3000 Running XP bla-bla....had no drivers installed when I got it back. Had to download Ethernet driver on another computer to a flash drive. And get it up and running. The writable CD-Rom sounds fine {it has a different driver than the player only] I double checked the driver twice and it is the exact one. I even tried a different cd-rom device and it had the audio quality problem. It just sort of sounds like it's clipping.I don't know where to go next........HELP!

Ok so I have a simple, but annoying problem. I have no Windows Sound Events like the login sound, the logout sound, and when the battery is low. Every other sound like playing music and running YouTube videos work fine. Even when I turn on my laptop I hear the whole computer startup sound, but I don't hear the login one. I don't understand the problem. I went into personilazation and went to Windows Sounds, but when I select one and click "Play" I don't hear anything. I tried the other Sound Themes and they don't work either. I ran the Fix It program for Audio, and it didn't find anything wrong.

I watched one youtube video - everything was working fine.
I went to another youtube video, but something changed.

Now I have no sounds in any embedded video. The video isn't muted, the system volume isn't muted. I have internet explorer's "Play web sounds" checked in internet options. The windows volume mixer has two sliders. The left one is for the device/speakers, and that looks normal. The right one is for applications. Below the applications slider is shaded black & above is shaded grey. I think it's some kind of Windows error message. When I slide the bar, the shading goes away until I close & re-open the volume mixer.

I updated the K-Lite codec. It found like 20 broken filters & files. Successfully installed, restarted computer. Still no embedded video soundsl.

Windows sounds & iTunes work fine.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

    Hey guys,

Just got my new Sound Blaster Z in the mail this morning. After some research I found that I should set Windows Sound settings to 5.1 Speakers non-full range in order to best utilize the SB drivers. I use a pair of Razer Carcharias (stereo headset). I don't have speakers. Supposedly, by doing this and turning on SBX Surround I'll get simulated surround in games and listen to stereo music just fine simply by turning off SBX Surround when doing so.

Well, games sound great with simulated surround, FLACs stored on my computer sound great and crisp no matter what Windows is set to (Stereo or 5.1) BUT Youtube videos sound awful. In order to get Youtube videos to sound good I need to go into Windows CP and set the sound options to Stereo Speakers. Once I do it goes back to sounding great again.

It should be noted that I only use Youtube for music. As unlikely as it may sound, YT is an amazing resource for classical music. You can find a lot of performances by different conductors / orchestras or soloists if a solo piece and you can create your own playlists. It's kind of a big deal to me.

Everything else about the card is amazing.

I have a WindowsVista (2007) system and a Toshiba laptop (2008). I tried to play NetFlix instant movies and when playing, there was a bad 'tinny' digital sound playing over the dialog. I used to be able to play YouTube videos just fine, but now cannot. This change happened after I contacted Microsoft Support (directed there by NetFlix support). Initially, NetFlix told me that there was a problem with Silverlight. So, Microsoft told me to uninstall and reinstall Silverlight. This did not improve the problem. Then, Microsoft told me to install a K-light Codec pack (4.4.5) and this did not help either. Microsoft told me to do something else, but I decided to write to a site like this in an effort to get some more useful help. Do you think it's Silverlight or Flash or what. No matter the volume on my computer (at max of 100) neither YouTube nor NetFlix play appropriately. When I play computer CDs (audio) the audio is just fine. PLEASE HELP! THANKS!

I have been to over a dozen websites trying to fix this problem of mine, with no right answers. When I use my headphones on my laptop, I am able to hear game sounds through it, and I am able to hear Chat from calls through it, but not at the same time. While in game or youtube or whatever if I make a skype call or steam chat or teamspeak, all other sound comes through my laptop speakers so that the chat is alone in my headphones. This defeats the entire purpose of having headphones.
I have Windows 7. I am using the Turtle Beach Earforce X12 Headset. When I go to Control Panel>Sound>PLayback the options are 1) Speakers and Headphones 2) Communications Headphones. Both say IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.
Please, help me. out of all the websites out there, they all say to do the same stuff and it doesn't work.
Also, side note, on the headset there is two controls for game and chat. The chat one doesn't work for anything and game controls everything that comes through the headset. Not sure if that helps at all.

I've been having problems with sound issues in this 3 month old system since day one and have searched here for days for a possible solution. I've tried all of the suggestions to no avail. My system sounds (on the volume mixer bar) never go higher than 10-15%. Media Player seems OK but not great volume. Internet sounds (You tube) reach around 50%.

I noticed a windows (optional update) this month is for a new driver for my Soundblaster card from Creative and I am thinking maybe I should try that first before further exploring.... BUT, I notice the new driver is released in August of 2009!!!! but published 6/2/2011. Is that possible?

My current driver is dated May 2009. Gee... was Creative on strike for 2 years?

Since the new driver is 41mb, I am assuming it will install a new control panel. My question, at the moment ... is, if I have to roll back the driver because it's worse, will I automatically get back my control panel?

I've never dealt with drivers, sound cards etc... and very shy about all of this. I really appreciate any help I can get. The Creative forums were pathetic (in my humble opinon) as 1,000's of posts never get responses.

    A:System sounds are very low

I suggest completely disabling any audio device you are not actually using for starters.

To do this click on the device, for instance the ati output
click the properties button, and at the bottom of the window that opens use the dropdown to disable the device.
It appears you are also not using the built in realtek device. The ideal thing to do here would be to disable the onboard audio in the system bios.
But following the above mentioned steps should do essentially the same thing.

If you aren't scared of your bios settings going in there and disabling the onboard audio would be best.

You do want to leave the x-fi stuff on, as that is your main audio device.

I have a Compaq Pentium 4 computer which has audio ports at the back and the front too.
The front has 2 audio ports for mic/ headphones and the back has 2 ports also (one for speaker and the other for mic)...
But when am playing music or something that has a sound on this computer, the sound comes from both the system and the mic.
I dont like it in a way that the sounds should come from the system because it disturbs so I want it to come out from the mic alone when connected but it should come out from the system when mic is not connected...
I have checked from the systray volume icon when I lower the volume, it affects both system sound and mic performance.
When i go into volume advance settings, I see the following tabs:
Volume Control, Wave, CD In, Line IN, MIDI, Microphone, SW Synth and CD Player volume controls...
When i mute Waves, it stopped the system from using sound effects and the mic also stops when i unmute the waves, the sounds come back again,.
How do I get the mic working only when its been inserted into the audio port and the system sounds not working whiles mic is in audio ports?

    Computer spec is
    Intel (R)
    Pentium 4 CPU (2.40GHz)
    248 of RAM

    Hi all,

Okay, my computer has been acting funny as of lately. I run things all of the time for Spyware, but never seem to find anything. And I have AVG, so I assume there are no viruses.

Anyway... whenever I'd connect to the internet (good old dial up, mind you) I would hear the modem in the computer making the connection.

Okay, so about two months ago I got more RAM for my computer, because I was running on only 128... horrible!

Now everything is MUCH faster, even connecting to the internet (or so it seems). But after I installed the RAM, I could hear the computer making the connection through the speakers, not just in the computer itself.

Okay... no biggie. I got a lot of improved sound quality after I got the RAM installed.

But a couple of weeks ago, I'd start connecting to the Internet... and there would be absolutely no sound at all. Not from the speakers, not from the computer/modem itself (which I ALWAYS heard before).

Now there's nothing. I even thought that it wasn't getting a dial tone or something at first, because I couldn't hear it connecting. Then the little popup in the bottom right would pop up saying "Connected at 'such and such' speed"

This is more of a curiosity thing than it is a real issue, but does anyone know why this would happen?

Currently running 7022 (runs fine for me so I'm not upgrading until RC1) and among the annoying little quirks is the fact that all of my system sounds (alerts, etc) appear to be delayed. I hear them a full second or two after the action that triggers them.

Anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix in a later build?

I'm on a Dell Latitude D830 with a SigmaTel HD audio chipset.

    A:Delayed system sounds

Hi Mark, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I have not experienced this in the 7000, 7048, 7057, or 7068 builds. You might try one of them instead to see if it may work better for you.

    Hope you get it sorted,
