L440 Thinkpad Touchpad Question

Q: L440 Thinkpad Touchpad Question

I wish to obtain definitive information about the internal composition of the trackpad for the L440 laptop given my allergy to wool felt. Does the trackpad use any felt cushioning or gaskets? I recently noticed what appears to be small particles of lint around the crevices of the trackpad, but before cleaning the periphery of the pad I wish to be certain that these particles are not from underlying felt material. I would hope to obtain an answer directly from Lenovo. Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear all, since almost 2 years I am pretty happy with my L440.But lately, I often have problems with the touchpad becaue it suddenly stops working,no mouse moving, no touchpad-based clicking. The trackpointer still works and also the hardware buttons for left and right clicking are still working. However, depending on the task i prefer either trackpad or touchpad. I already changed the sensitivity for palm checking but no effect.  Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

A:thinkpad l440 cpu upgrade?

If you do it yourself it will certainly be cheaper, but the CPU is not considered customer-replaceable, so it may affect your warranty status. If you can do the replacement in a professional manner, so it doesn't look worked on, probably nobody will complain, as long as you keep the old part and replace it back before getting service. The FRU of the i7-4600m is 04X4049. You do not want to get one marked "ES" (engineering sample). The ES parts may not be final versions

So I got my Kaby Lake 20HR Carbon last week. I loaded it up and played with it- fell in love. I almost always use a mouse, except when I am running around carrying this thing under my arm. A few days later, I replaced the SSD with an Intel 600P 512 GB NVMe. I could not migrate my stuff, so I did a fresh install. After install, I fully update both from Lenovo and Windows standpoint. Then I go to work.. and my touchpad is funny. It works- all gestures work, tapping, double taping, swiping. It is very sensitive and high quality. But the BOTTOM buttons don't work, really. I am not talking about the touchpoint buttons at the top of the pad- those work great. But the bottom of the touchpad itself only works if you press it really hard. Also, it does not make any sort of satisfying click like a button. Am I crazy? Am I just rememberming my old device, which had two click regions in the bottom left and right corner? That doesnt seem right, because this touchpad DOES left and right click if you press hard in the bottom left and right corners. Could the drivers or something have messed up with the hardware clickyness? My last laptop was a Lenovo Yoga Pro 2, my wife had a Lenovo and just upgraded to the Flex 5... and they all have click regions on the bottom quadrants that make a noise and give you feedback of a click.

The OS is Windows 10 64-bit.  Anyone else seeing this?

I recently got a friend of mine get me a Thinkpad P50 laptop from US (I live in India). Since beginning I am having issues with the touchpad. Initially the touchpad (including touchpad keys and the trackpopint) would work for some time and then stop responding completely until rebooted. However since last few days the touchpad is completely dead. I get a message whenever I start the laptop that touchpad was not detected. I have tried installing drivers for the touchpad from lenovo website as well as doing a factory reset, but nothing seems to have worked so far. I also took the laptop to the lenovo service center in India, but they have refused to look into the issue, since the laptop was purchased in US and the Lenovo website does not list India as a country where international warrenty for this laptop is applicable. Infact the site for this laptop is blank and does not show any country. Any suggestions what I should be doing next to resolve this would be greately appreciated.

Hi,
I'm configuring a brand new IBM thinkpad for a friend. It came all set up and everything seems great (HUGE system!) but I can't get the touch pad to work, only the red button in the middle, along with the corresponding red buttons. The touchpad and black buttons do not work, and it seems that there should be a way to toggle back and forth. I am checking the IBM website as we speak, but I usually get my answers quicker here!
Thanks, TW

I just bought a refurbished ThinkPad T420. A friend of mine said it had a good spec so I was looking forward to having a play around. Right from the minute I switched it on there was a problem. The touchpad and mouse are not working. The only way to use the mouse is via the track point (is that the right term?) and I hate it! It's way too fiddly. So I tried fn and F8... it doesn't work. I've tried rebooting and enabling the touchpad in the BIOS it doesn't work. I've deleted drivers. Still nothing. I've installed new drivers. Many tutorials say you can fix it using device manager, mouse etc. But the tab the recommend you choose is not there. I installed new drivers from synaptics and it says there is no synsptics device found. I am honestly going insane! Something that should be so simple and it's so awkward! Forgive me because I'm half asleep but I should mention when I first tried to fix it the tab in mouse properties that everyone says I should use (ultra something) well it was there. But when I tried to click any of the options on that tab I was kicked out and got an error messsge. Now that tab no longer appears. It's running on windows 10. I'm ready for launching it out the window. Help!

Hi all, Amongst its main problem of the screen retentions my Yoga has a really annoying problem of when you are using the touchpad and use a single tap to click, the touchpad makes a hollow clicky noise. It's difficult to explain but inexplicably annoying...........if you press it down hard and engage the left click button it may disappear for a while but soon comes back......Anyone else suffer from this? Seem to notice it more when keyboard vertical E.g when using in bed...... Thanks Steve

A:Thinkpad Yoga Clicky Touchpad

Mine was the same since new.. Just fixed it and its really simple. Unscrew the back & carefully remove,Unplug and remove the battery (5? screws careful not to overtighten on reassemly, plastic holes are weak)Unscrew and remove the touchpad (6 screws)Get some alcohol (IPA) (Isopropanol Alchohol, not Indian Pale Ale) on a cotton bud and wipe the sticky adhesive that has crept out from underneath the 2 tiny black plastic pads that are stuck to the stainless steel metalwork (on the touch pad).  Ironically, i suspect these pads are there to stop the sheet metal from "clacking" against the case metalwork casting when you let go of the TP, unfortunately the adhesive has leached round to the front of the pad and makes a nasty smacking noise everytime you put the lightest of pressure ont he TP. picture some goop between your thumb and forfinger and the noise it makes when you try and separate them. hope this helps, it was driving me bonkers.

Forgive me if it's in the archives. I tried to find something similar but couldn't

I have a Lenovo T61p Thinkpad. I've disable the touchpad a ton of times and the dang thing keeps re-enabling itself and I can't determine why...
Hardware drivers and software are up to to date. Microsoft Auto update enabled.

Typical scenario:
Go into mouse properts->UltraNav tab
Uncheck "Enable TouchPad"

System is then fine as long as it's used periodically. But it seems like after a prolonged period of inactivity - say overnight, the dang thing re-enables itself and I can't determine why. Sure enough, I go back to the UltraNav tab and that stupid box turning it on is checked again.

No reboot, sleep, suspend, etc mode is required for this behavior to rear it's ugly head.

TIA,
Steve

The trackpad is working very good with the buttons of the touchpad. I found that if i will go to device manager and i will delete/unistall the touchpad (synaptics pointing device) then the mouse is working perfectly until the next reboot, when will be automatically installed the latest driver from windows or from update manager of lenovo, so i think that is not hardware problem. I have the latest original drivers on the pc, installed from the site of lenovo. Also i saw on the settings that the touchpad is enabled. Please i need some help regarding this issue.

Good Day!I'm from the Philippines and I bought a refurbished thinkpad p50 from the US at 2016 and I extended its NBD warranty until June 1, 2018. The touchpad and trackpad suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago and it seems that the bios can't recognize them. The wifi reception seems to have also weaken, requiring me to be closer to the wifi source than before. I also tried reinstalling the drivers but it can't still identify the two pointing device. I'm actually planning to ship it to the US this week before my NBD warranty expires, but I don't know anyone from the US right now to avail the NBD service. May I know which address must I send it to, and the proper procedures to avail the repairs?I already spent $170 for the warranty extension last year, and I'll be spending another $100 for the DHL shipping to the US. May I also know if Lenovo will answer the shipping back to my country, since if not, I'll be spending another $100 for it to be shipped back to the Philippines?I also tried calling the service center from the US but I kept on having long calls with no response. Thanks!

Everything was working perfectly fine on my T440s with Windows 10 Pro, I am not sure what caused the issue, May be a driver upgrade touchpad is no more working. I suspect that it's not a hardware issue because button clicks works and scrolling in web pages works. The Driver version which I do have currently installed is 19.0.17.115 from Synaptics.  If I open the mouse properties I can change settings for TrackPoint but TrackPad options are grayed out. Can't make any changes.  I tried different drivers from Lenovo, Reinstalled Windows 10, Tried Resetting Windows 10 and Reinstalled drivers but nothing works. I would like to hear from any T440s owners which version of driver they use and if everything is well with Windows 10. I am thinking of making some modifications in the registry to get it back to work.  Any help ?? Thanks in advance!!

Hi, 1st version of Windows 10 worked perfectly with my Thinkpad E145. Than, there was an update, and after that I tried everything to bring the touchpad to life, but without success. That's like having a smartphone where you have to use bluetooth keyboard if you want to send an sms!!!!I was waiting for 2 months now, that there will be some update that will repair this state - weather from Windows or from Lenovo, but I guess there is support and support is not equal to solution. So, I can get support, but I am really looking for someone who has a solution.I decided that I will spend a little bit more of my time this week and if I don't find a solution, I will look for another product on a different platform that works.I got following suggestions too: 1. Hold the shift key while restarting the machine and test the touchpad functionality. (this will bring you to the Advanced Options that will enable the Touchpad using a generic driver). If the Touchpad worked, boot back into Windows and rollback the touchpad driver (e.g., Synaptics pointing device) from the Device Manager > Mouse and other pointing devices --> Touchpad didn't work 2. Uninstall the Touchpad driver from the Device Manager and in the Control Panel (reboot if necessary) then reinstall the Touchpad driver from the ThinkPad Edge E145 drivers page. --&... Read more

my IBM T41 Thinkpad hard drive died and I replaced it, so I lost all the drivers and special software IBM put on it. Once I installed XP I tried to disable the double tap touchpad but XP didnt have a driver so I installed the Lenovo UltraNav. With it I can have full control over the touchpad, except that it does not allow me to disable the double tap. the only tapping options are 'tap and drag' and 'tap zones'. Before the hard drive crashed I had disabled the double tap so I know it is possible. Any ideas? I hate the double tap and it ought to be easy to disable.

This is meant as a bug report. Hopefully someone from Lenovo is reading this. I have a ThinkPad Yoga X1 (1st gen). A few days ago, the System Update utility updated the touchpad driver to version 19.3.4.119. I'm having 2 issues: 1) I do not use my touchpad and therefore disable it. However, every time my machine comes out of sleep or reboots, the touchpad is re-enabled. I disable it "correctly" by going to (Start Menu) -> (Mouse Settings) -> (Additional Mouse Options) -> (ThinkPad tab) -> Uncheck "Enable touchpad".  2) If I enable the touchpad and click the settings button next to "Enable touchpad", the Synaptics Control Panel window appears. This window is very unresponsive. And when I click on the "Click" tab, I get repeated errors that "The parameter value is invalid."  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver to no avail. I cannot find an older version of the driver at Lenovo's website. Please fix.

In September 2017 I ordered and received my ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th gen laptop.  So far I have found the computer to be outstanding, with one enormous and seriously troubling flaw:  the trackpad / touchpad mouse.  While I have not had the issues with the mouse/arrow suddenly disappearing or freezing, I have found the trackpad to be incredibly tempermental.  For example, when working in Word with tables and you attempt to widen or narrow the width of columns, it is incredibly difficult to easily position the mouse/cursor over the bars of the columns.  Using the trackpad, the pointer will stop moving as you move your finger across the trackpad, but then you move your finger just the slightest bit more, and it moves right over the place where you want the arrow/cursor to be. For example, if I roll my finger tip left or right (not move it, just roll the tip of my finger) the cursor will sometimes respond and other times will not.  It is this gentle rolling that is needed to get the cursor in just the right spot sometimes - but no, not with this laptop. This is a problem in every application i've used thus far and it makes the computer absolutely inferior to my last ThinkPad (T430S) which had an oustanding trackpad that was easy to maneuver and very friendly to the touch.  I have loaded all the latest drivers for the computer and specific ones for the touchpad, but they have not resolved this problem.  I am a professor at a university an... Hey, I'm having an issue with activating scrolling on my Lenovo laptop. I am fairly certain it is a T450 model. I have gone to Control Panel > Mouse > Settings (under Trackpad) and enabled scrolling as well as horizontal and vertical for both two and one finger, but it still will not scroll! Any solutions?

When I tried to run some Deep Learning tasks the temperature goes up and then the touchpad gradually lost response (CPU it running around 40% usage at 3.6GHz and GPU is about 60% usage,  temperature little below 80░C). I have attached the link to the youtube video: https://youtu.be/vTtUf47XuM8 It was working fine until around 1:00, then it starts to drift and won't keep up with my finger move, around 2:30min it completely died. After I stopped the task and the temperature went down, the touchpad started to work again. I've tried reboot and reinstall the keyboard driver but no luck. It looks like a hardware issue for me.  I had a W520 for six years and never got a problem. For this one I only had it for 8 months and it's the third time I need to call customer support for a fix( first time keyboard and screen, second time the hinge). I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the quality control at Lenovo now.

Hi, I bought a Thinkpad Yoga 260 two weeks ago and it has this annoying problem that touchpad stops responding time to time. It can happen during working with laptop for few seconds or just completely goes off that I have to restart the machine. Also sometimes when it wakes up the touchpad does not respond. Please advise if I have to send it back or there is a fix for it. I have all drivers updated and lenovo companion does not find any issue regarding driver date or hardware defect.  I am really disappointed for this price tag receving such a poor quality device.  Parham

As the title says, my trackpoint, keyboard backlight and touchpad have stopped working. The problem happened a few weeks after I updated from windows 8.1 to windows 10. I have tried updating ultranav drivers, resetting windows 10 (which was a bit of a pain given that I will now have to reinstall all my software) and then reverting to windows 8.1 after none of the above worked. Fortunately my touchscreen and mouse support is still ok, but I can't work in low light conditions without my keyboard light. Can anyone help? I see that some Yoga 12 users report similar problems after a fuse fails. Does anyone know if this occurs on the S1 Yoga?

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?
