Laptop wireless internet not working suddenly

Q: Laptop wireless internet not working suddenly

Hello guys

a very annoying problem I have eversince I got wireless internet in 2004. My internet just randomly stops working, mostly when I boot my laptop or when I get it out off standby. This is what happens:

I try to connect to my router, but Windows says "cannot connect to belkin54g" (SSID). The strange thing is, I had the same with my old Windows XP computer years ago, but back then I had a Linksys router. My current router is a Belking (no idea what model).

Also very weird is the fact that my internet monitor (I installed a Windows 7 desktop gadget) shows that the connection is being interrupted all the time. It goes from 33% signal strength to 100% in 3 seconds but after another 3 seconds the signal is lost and the gadget is displaying 0% signal strength. Though the LED on my router's WLAN is not red, nor are any other LED's colored red.

Can someone pleaaaaaaaaaaase help me out? I got this problem for years and years. I've also configured my network card not to go in standby modus whenever the laptop is in standby, this didn't work out the way I've hoped.

One more thing, once I am connected to the router and have access to the internet, there is no problem anymore and I can be online for like 1 month without rebooting or whatever. But sometimes when I reboot/come back out of standby it just doesn't work and I need to reboot again. Sometimes it still doesn't work after rebooting so I reboot again and then it is mostly working, but it is so *beep* annoying!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you rebooted your wireless router recently?

Have you tried changing any of the broadcast channels? Maybe an electrical device is causing interference.

I have a HP laptop that runs windows Vista Premium, and is connected to an old Netgear wireless router, with which a broadband modem is connected to.

I have had this setup for nearly two years, and has been running great, including this morning. However tonight I cannot get the laptop to connect to the internet. I have had a couple of weird issues before, but restarting the computer has always fixed it. This time I have restarted everything, and I can access other computers on the network (not wireless) but not the internet.

Strangely, a hard drive that is connected to another computer that is shared for my backups is also not being found. (the other computer is plugged into the router through an ethernet cable, and internet works fine).

MSN, Explorer and the like will not connect to the net. Interestingly, when I start Mozilla Firefox, which loads a simplified google homepage, after a long long time, loads about hald way.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be, I dont know what to do or try, because I havent seemed to change anything to stop it working. Any ideas I could try would be much appreciated.

I have a 3 year old MPC Transport T1200. It has a wireless switch that has always worked. I was using wireless two days ago, and tonight, when I turned it on, it just stopped working.

I've tried looking at my device manager, and everything is fine. I've tried pinging, and that fails, even though my ethernet it working just fine. The wireless is enabled, I have the right drivers. I'm at a complete loss here. When I turn the switch on, the computer just doesn't recognize the wireless card or something.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

If it is a mini-PCI adapter it may have come loose. You can unplug the AC, remove the battery, remove the cover over the wireless and check.

Else the adapter or switch may have failed.

Hello,

I've connected to the internet using an Airport Extreme, on my HP laptop (one year old), running Vista. It has worked fine for a year, and wireless connection is working on all other computers in the house, but suddenly will not work on the HP laptop anymore.

It sees the available networks, but goes into an indefinite state of "aquiring network address," but never connects. When I plug in ethernet cable, it works.

Can you help? I have no idea why it would suddenly stop working! I tried to "repair" the connection, and it said it "could not refresh IP address."

Please help! I'm clueless.

I have a Compaq 6715B, and yesterday while I was browsing the web, my wireless stopped working, it gave me a notification in the "Safely Remove Hardware" thing near the clock, "The blah blah blah Network adapter can now be safely removed".
The wireless hasn't been working ever since.
The troubleshooting that I've done so far are:
Make sure the wireless button on the computer is enabled, it will not enable, it is a "touch" button, and it lights up blue when it's working, it won't even respond to my touch, the other buttons next to it do work. So that's not helping at all.
I have two of the exact same laptop, I switched the wireless card that's installed INSIDE the laptop, not a wireless card that just slides in the side, one that's under the bottom panel, I swapped them, uninstalled the driver, and connected via. ethernet to reinstall the drivers. No dice.
It's not showing up in the device manager or anything..

[edit] I'm running Windows XP Professional, SP3

I'm lost.

Help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Saturday morning I was reading some email, tried to go to a new website and all of a sudden it wouldn't load. I tried connecting to the internet from my ipod touch, and my boyfriend's laptop, and it didn't work either. So I went and unplugged the modem and wireless router, plugged it back in, restarted my computer, and still no internet. Unplugging everything did work in fixing the connection to my ipod and my boyfriend's laptop though.

I have been doing some googling and apparently this is somewhat of a common problem. I haven't actually been able to find a solution to it though.
Today, on a whim, I decided to login my administrator account on the laptop (something I had "unlocked" a few months ago after I got my laptop back from HP when I sent it in to have my hard drive replaced. They had already set up the laptop and named it "test" and it irritated me and I was trying to accomplish something, but I don't remember what now) and lo and behold, I could access the internet! I switched back to my regular user account, but I was still not able to connect... This is SO BIZZARE to me..

I ran IPCONFIG on the command prompt thing.. (wow, I sound so dumb when I talk computers.. I swear I know how to use one.. I went to run, typed in CMD, then did IPCONFIG/ALL) and this is what came up:

Hey guys,

Earlier today I performed a windows update on my Acer Aspire 5600 laptop, and after the restart my wireless stopped working. The update was an optional hardware one for my ethernet port software apparently, and I've no idea if it has caused the problem or not.

I connect to a Belkin 54g wireless router, and usually when I turn the laptop on it automatically connects fine. Now however, I get a red cross through the icon saying it's disconnected or a 'Limited or no connectivity' warning message. I tried looking up the problem using the details button when this box comes up, and it seems in the list of things such as IP, DNS settings etc the last three items have no numbers next to them. The thing is, I can't even pick up any wireless networks anymore. I use the search function and the laptop finds nothing, even though I know my wireless is on and working efficiantly.

It seems to me like my wireless adapter in the laptop is disabled, even though it isn't. I've tried all I can think of, anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks a lot,
- Lee

As the title says, my wireless internet access has very suddenly stopped working. The last time I used it, sometime last night maybe 10 hours ago it was working fine. This morning I wake up and it simply won't work. The only thing I did was turn my computer off before going to bed and it had been off until this morning when I turned it on and it wouldn't work. The thing that confuses me the most about this is from the moment it was working to the moment it wasn't working, I'm 99% sure it was completely powered down that whole time.

I've restarted and rebooted every piece of hardware multiple times already. From what I can tell, the problem appears to be with my computer only, since no one else or any other computer in my house appears to be affected.

Some other facts:

I can connect to the internet perfectly if I plug in with an ethernet cable.
I can connect to my router and access its firmware, and can see my computer as connected to the router.
Other laptops have no problem connecting wirelessly to the internet on the same wireless network.

Hello.

I ask that you please be patient with me, as I am not very knowledgeable where computers are concerned.
So my wireless internet connection has been working completely fine on my Windows 8 laptop up until a couple of days ago. The wireless internet is working for all devices in my home except for the laptop. I am currently typing this on my mobile phone. When I try to diagnose the connection, I get an error message that says, "'Wi-Fi' doesn't have a valid ip configuration". I went into the Administrator Command Prompt and attempted an ipconfig /renew as I have heard this solves the problem, but I receive a message that says, "No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection* 11 while it has its media disconnected."

I have reset the computer, but to no avail. The internet connection icon on my taskbar shows me that I have a strong internet connection, but when I mouse over it, it says, "Unidentified Network. No internet access." I have also tried resetting the router. Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Wireless Internet Connection Suddenly Stopped Working on Windows 8

The Local Area Connection would not interfere with the wireless as that's the Ethernet port. That message is normal.

Go into the Network and Sharing Center, then on the left side in the blue section choose change adapter settings.

Right click on the wireless network icon and choose properties.

Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 and click properties. Make sure both sections are selected for Automatically Obtain IP/DNS address. If you had to change them, click OK then Close. Go back to command prompt and type ipconfig/all and post teh results here.

A:HELP!! new laptop and wireless network but no working internet!

Click Start, Control Panel then Network Connections. You should have a Wireless connection there. Double click it. Click View Wireless Networks and you should have a wireless network there. If not click refresh network list on the left. If you do have one shown click on advanced settings then wireless settings. Click on Advanced make sure Any Available Network is checked. If more that one wireless network is showing you have to move your Up to the first position. Also do you have Wep Or Wap enabled? If so you would have to enter the key. Also make sure you are close to your wireless router when doing this to rule out a weak signal.

I did nothing to make it stop working. I was on the internet, stepped away, came back, and couldn't connect. I checked the online connection (by clicking the little icon in the bottom right part of the screen) and it came up with an error. I went to Device Manager, and there is a "!" next to LAN-Express IEEE 802.11 PCI Adapter. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but the "!" is still there.

Did the actual hardware break somehow? Is there anything I should do before bringing it back to where I bought it? I've only had it for a few months, and never before had a problem

I spent about an hour going through similar posts here but didn't really find what I needed. I'm hoping this is just something stupid on my part.
Here's the deal:
My sons laptop crashed. I did what I could to recover it but, no good. Was able to recover his important files (from help I got here) so I picked up a new harddrive (WD60gig) and installed WINXP Pro fresh.

My desktop is hardwired from a Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband router that is connected to cablevision via a 3Com U.S. Robotics modem.

The problem now is trying to get an internet connection on the laptop.

Prior to the crash, he was able to connect using the wireless router.

I've tried going directly to the laptop from the modem just to get an internet connection but I haven't got that to happen yet.

Do I need to install the 3com modem software on the laptop?

I just installed Norton Antivrus 2005 on the Desktop.

How do I check for Firewall issues?

Any help is appreciated. Even just a pointer to a good article might do it.
Thanks.

I also cannot access it through any of my Windows 8 apps. Take a look at the file
\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hoststhere MUST be at least a line reading 127.0.0.1 LOCALHOST
but the question is there anything other than comments in it?
If so, leave the comments and the localhost line and delete everything else.

If you modify the hosts file, then you also need to

ipconfig /flushdns
net stop "dns client"
net start "dns client"

A:Wireless router suddenly stopped working (Lights still working though)

what devices do you have connected the router anything else wireless
make and model of the pc

does the PC work if you connect to the router by a cable ?
if not
try connecting directly to the modem and see if that works OK

we need to see some details, which will mean you need to copy to a working PC
------------------------------------------------------------------------
{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Direct link to the program is here http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifi_download_redirect.php
Then run and install the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

Run the program

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

Now, suddenly, I am connected to the Net but nobody can get connected from their laptops.

The ONLY thing that has changed recently is that I did a reformat on my PC. That's all I did, I didn't unplug anything, just the simple reformat one does by putting in the Windows disk. Can that have caused this?

I've restarted the D-Link, and tried unplugging it, to no avail. I'm not all that brilliant with computers so I am now at a dead end.

I'm pretty sure that this is something that can't be fixed, I believe it's because of a bad motherboard but I figured MAYBE there was something that can fix this. The computer in question has always had problems with internet. It was originally a family member's pc, and it was given to me to try to fix ( years ago, and it's mine now ). Anyway, when I recieved the computer, the ethernet didn't work at all. I figured it was the port that went bad. The computer was taken to Geek Squad before it was given to me and they couldn't fix it. It wouldn't even work with a wireless NIC card. This persisted for years, along with numerous problems with PCI devices not being recognized. The PCI device issue randomly fixes itself, and then starts again for no reason. I think the internet not working is because of the hardware problems. I moved recently, and had to start using the computer again ( always used my girlfriends before I moved ). At first I tried to get it working with a wireless NIC card, and the card wasn't being recognized due to the PCI device crap ( the computer didn't even see that it was added ). Randomly, the hardware issues stopped ( as they do from time to time ) and I was able to install the NIC card, and all worked fine. Then one night I was sitting across the room from the computer and I noticed something pop up on the screen. Upon looking to see what it was I noticed that it was telling me I lost my wireless connectio... Read more

I tried system restore because Windows 7 has already given me problems with my graphics where I've had to system restore, but it didnt work. Tried uninstalling my driver for it, didn't work. My laptop eventually ended up freezing a little while later, so I did a hard reset, loaded it back up, it froze on startup (again), so I repeated the process, and then my wireless card reinstalled itself and it worked. I linked my laptop (Win 7 RC) with my girlfriends (Vista Home Basic) via Ad-hoc wireless networking, and it ran like a dream for a week. We took it in turns being the one plugged in at the ethernet, and the one with their feet up on the bed enjoying the comforts of wireless technology.

Then one day the ad-hoc networks were showing up as local-only.

Regardless of what I do in the settings, turning ICS on/off, disabling/reenabling adaptors, drivers, tweaking this and that, I can't get the ad-hoc network to share the internet, even though the ICS is shown as on

I've searched google quite thoroughly and found lots of cases of people suffering from this problem, but not a single solution. I suspect its a Vista bug they never ironed out.

I am now going around the forums posting this in the hope that someone knows what is going on and can help me. I really want us both to be able to have net access.

Please, please, please help. Very grateful if you can.

P.S> I am an IT professional, just so we can avoid the obvious questions. I just don't like to have to reinstall every 5 minutes, and am really hoping that Win 7 is the OS to break the Microsoft mould of making those reinstallations so frequent.

Well win 7 is but i dont suspect it is an OS problem. where does you ISP come from? IE ISP>???????>>>>pc. modem, router, school, etc?

Hi everyone,

I'm having problems with the wireless button after I took my laptop apart to clean. The wireless button won't switch on at all and doesn't light up. When I press fn f8 nothing happens. I'm not sure what I've done. The wires are correctly in place as far as I can tell. I've tried the following things:

Uninstalling the adapter in device manager and rebooting
Checked adapter is listed as working properly
Do a system restore
Check BIOS

I'm not sure what else to do so would appreciate any pointers. Thanks in advance!

Last night my router was working fine, and then all of a sudden my Internet stopped working. when i woke up i figured out that with a Ethernet cord the Internet works, but going wireless doesn't work. its not in my computer since it also wont work on my ps3.

When i try to connect to it, it either says it cannot connect, or connects and says i have Internet but doesn't let me actually load anything.

Hi everyone,

Found this website when looking for a solution to my problem.

Last night I was using the internet fine with my TravelMate 4220, running MS XP.

I went downstairs for a couple of hours and when I went back upstairs my computer had gone into hibernation. I turned it back on and it wasn't connected to the wireless router I have. I opened the network connections and it couldn't find either of the two routers I have - on different ISPs.

As you can see, I am currently online (using my Dad's laptop) and so the internet works fine - it must be my computer!

Can anyone help me? It finds the 'free public WiFi' but not any of the other routers in my local area.

I really need my computer for work, so am a little worried!

I have restarted it three times, but nothing is working!!

Hey everyone, it was solved, by my mother no less! She went into IE, ran diagnostics and there was a problem with the windsock, or something, so all is fine now.

I have had my HP Pavilion dm4 for a year and a half now, and when my school gave me a copy of Windows 7 Enterprise (it came with Win7 Home) I installed it and all the necessary drivers, and everything's been running smoothly - til now.

Tonight all of a sudden my Internet connection showed that it was connected but had "limited connectivity" - aka no Internet. So I restarted my router - no luck. Then I restarted my computer, and my F12 wireless button showed orange - meaning that wireless capability was turned off entirely. It wouldn't turn back on even if I pushed the button, so I went into Control Panel and did some diagnostic thing and it forced the wireless capability back on and it worked again. For about an hour. Then the button went orange again and the diagnostic couldn't turn it back on.

So, I went into wireless connections and disabled and reenabled the actual connection rather than the adapter, and it worked again - for about another hour. When it went off again, the disabling/reenabling didn't help.

I don't think it should be a driver problem seeing as I can make it turn back on for certain periods of time and it's worked fine until now. Does anyone know what to do?

Do you have iTunes or AVG installed on this system?

If you can post a screen shot of the ipconfig/all from this machine it would be helpful.

Hello all,
I'm having issues with my Wireless Network Adapter and am hoping you an help me. The other day I went to a friend's house and put my HP Pavillion dv2000 laptop in my bag and when I got back home the light on the front of my computer indicated that my wireless was turned off, however when I flicked the switch so it would turn on the light still indicated that it was off. I have run diagnostics on the wireless adapter several times to no avail. It only brings me to a troubleshooting page and I've tried all the options. I have tried rebooting the computer as well as disabling and enabling all wireless drivers. I have also upgraded all software concerning the adapter, but it still does not work. My computer uses Windows Vista as an operating system.
Please help, I'm utterly lost as to what to do.

Wireless has worked fine on my laptop for six years. It worked when I used it this morning. Tonight, I went to use it, and the wireless adapter looked like it was shut off. I tried to turn it on, but it wouldn't, because my computer thinks that no wireless adapter is present. I tried reinstalling the wireless driver (Intel) with no success. Under "Network Adapters" in the DevMgr, all that shows up is the 1394 net adapter and the Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. No wireless adapter.

Yes, my computer is old, and I suppose the wireless card could just be toast, but I'm choosing to believe that something screwed up with the software/drivers. I haven't installed anything or edited the registry or done anything that I would expect to have caused a change. I checked my email in the morning, computer was in standby all day, turned it on, no wireless.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi all,

My 'Linksys Wireless-G pci network adapter with Speedbooster' (WMP54GS V 1.1) just suddenly stopped working. Nothing had been done to the computer to cause such a thing to happen. My father was browsing a web page and then decided to check his bank status and boom.. nothing.

So first thing I noticed was that the Wireless Network Connection icon on the bottom that shows all the networks in the area was not there. So I figured that maybe the card was not being recognized. I thought maybe I would try updating the driver through Device Manager-> Network Adapters with a driver I found on the internet using my other computer. That didn't work so I tried uninstalling the driver and use the original cd driver that came with the card. Still nothing. Then I tried a system restore several times and you know how that goes. It never restores.

So next I looked at the device status on the card in the device manager and it said:
"Linksys Wireless-G PCI Network Adapter with Speedbooster
This device can not start (code 10)"

It seems like a lot of people get code 10's for everything that is usb or pci but I can't figure out how to solve my problem. I really ran out of solutions and don't know what to do at this point. Thanks

A:Solved: Linksys Wireless-G suddenly stopped working

It probably has died. You could try

Use Device Manager to uninstall it;
shut down PC and physically remove the adater;
reinstall it (if possible in a different slot in case it is a slot problem);
boot and hope it gets discovered and installed and now works.

The night before last, our wireless internet connection suddenly stopped working. Every once in a while this happens and if I power cycle the modem, it usually fixes it. We are on cable internet with a Motorola Surfboard modem and a Linksys WRT54GS v.7.5 router. This is actually 1 of 2 routers we have, the other one is Linksys WRT54G v.8. We have tried both now and neither works. I read a thread on here earlier where someone had the same problem, and so I am uploading screenshots as you suggested to them to show you how the connection looks on Xirrus WiFi Detector along with Device Manager and ipconfig/all. I have been on the basic setup page from Linksys 192.168.1.1 and tried changing some of the settings without success, and also doing firmware updates to the routers without success. I can't believe both routers are toast since the WRT54GS one has barely been used.
I ordered a new router because I wanted a Wireless N router anyway, but I'm afraid it will be the same problem when I hook it up if I don't figure out why this happened.
I tried to run the Linksys setup disk again after reverting the router to factory defaults and resetting it, and the setup program failed to communicate with the router. I've checked all cables and tried different ones without success. My laptop works fine with a LAN cable hooked into one of the ports on the router and running to my laptop. Also works with the LAN cable directly from the modem to the laptop.

Hello,

hopefully I have titled this post properly....

I have been using Win 7 Home Premium on a new build PC for about two months now. I initially used a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse with a Logitech unifying receiver. I type close to a hundred words a minute, and it was having a hard time keeping up with me, or so it seemed. The mouse also has to be right next to the back of the tower (which is on the floor beside my chair about two feet max from the right of the desk where I prefer to have the mouse, being right handed), in order to work without noticeable lag.

I tried using it with it plugged in to recharge constantly; made no difference. Eventually, I switched to a MS keyboard and mouse. No difference at all. I was still using those right up until this morning, when I threw the keyboard across the room with some venom. (You will see why.)

I didn't shut down my PC when I went to bed last night. Got up this morning, replied to a couple of things on Facebook and updated my status. Went to reply to someone else's status and bang! - my keyboard is not working at all. I checked every key. I reinstalled the drivers. I disconnected and reconnected. Rebooted the PC several times. Threw keyboard across room; picked up keys and battery cover and popped all back into place. Reinstalled Logitech mouse and keyboard with a new unifying receiver.

My keyboard still does not work. The mouse does. I can open web pages and new wordpad pages but cannot type a single letter. I... Read more

Hi!
So my problem is: a long time ago, my mouse (Trust MI-7770C Wireless Laser Mouse) started acting weirdly, for example, the cursor stopped for a few seconds, and sometimes the scroll wheel completely stopped working, and I had to reboot the computer. I was kinda okay with it, I mean it was still working, and it wasn't annoying enough for me to start trying to solve the problem. But a little later, when I plugged the receiver in, I got a message which said "USB Device Not Recognized". I thought it was my computer's problem, because USBPORT.sys had some problems, but that's not the point. So I bought a new mouse, and it worked completely fine, which means it's a hardware problem. So basically my question is: is there a solution for this? I know, it's kinda unnecessary, because I have an other mouse, but if there's a solution, I really don't want to throw away my old one, because I don't think it's natural for a mouse to suddenly stop working.

My laptop has a wireless card- the desktop is hardwired (ethernet) into teh DSL/wireless gateway. Everything WAS working fine- then I though I'd try to update the QEP encryption, just as another security measure.

Something has changed, as my laptop appears to be linked (netowrk monitor shows the connection)... and the wirelss "monitor" (I think it's software which installed with this Belkin 11Mbps PC card) showsthings working normally. But, I can't resolve any URLs and I can't see th laptop on teh network... the laptop doesn't seem to actually be communicating with the network, even though all outward signs show it connected.

I've tried double checking all the settings- the TC/PIP, ESSID, Channels, WEP settings and even a hexadecimal code I made up, but nothing seems to work.

Any ideas? I'm sure it's one, simple setting somewhere, but I have no idea where.

Hello, I am a complete novice and therefore have no idea how to fix this (but I'm hoping it's something absurdly simple which I am just too ignorant to fix!)
I've been using an old Dell Latitude C600 laptop with XP and a Belkin 802.11g Wirless card. I've been connected to the internet fine for over a year when suddenly, last week, I started getting the message for "View available networks" "No Wireless networks were found in range - Make sure the wireless switch on your computer is on."

A friend came round with a laptop just to confirm that there still ARE several networks within range, and she connected no problem. But I have been unable to work out what has gone wrong with mine. Weirdly, in tinkering about, at one point I could briefly see several networks (but not the one I need to connect to), but now I am back to zero again.

The Device Manager says the Belkin card is working fine but if I click on the Belkin card it just says "Scanning" and has no data or statistics.

I have tried FN F2 which some forums suggest is a wireless switch for my laptop but this does nothing. There is no manual switch on the Dell C600. I have also switching on and off the Wireless Zero thing (which other forums suggest) but nothing changes.

The network diagnostic says
Wireless - Service disabled
Wireless - User SSID
action User input required:Specify network name or SSID
Wireless - Radio off
action Manual repair: Turn radio switch on

Is the wireless adapter easily accessible through a cover on the bottom (it is on many laptops)? If so, remove and carefully and firmly replace the card three or four times. And, especially, make sure the antenna leads are secure.

Hi all,

I have a laptop with a wireless connection I use occasionally and its worked perfectly up until now.

Last week I used it and at the end Vista did some updates (about 12 from memory). Yesterday I turned my laptop on and couldn't get a wireless connection at all. My laptop went from saying it couldn't find any wireless networks to saying it could find my neighbours but not mine!

I tried to do a system restore as I thought it was something to do with the updates, but the system restore didn't work, it just crashed the system.

Eventually for no apparent reason it connected and worked fine for the rest of the day, but today I have the same problem...it won' connect!!

Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks in advance

When I try it wired it is fine ( around 9mbps) but with wireless its very slow. I haven't installed any new software or made any changes so no idea why this might be.
I also have tried another usb wireless adapter and still have the same issue.
I also have another wireless laptop and the speed on that is fine.
So the problem seems specific to my laptop and wireless conneciton only.
Any ideas?

What happened was, I took my laptop to our new house where there are no networks and when I brought it back it could detect nothing. This has never happened before so I'm wondering if I knocked or bumped my laptop and this somehow damaged or messed up the wireless detector hardware? (the software was not touched and has been reinstalled and seems OK.)

what have I done? how can I try to fix it? I'm having to use my husband's laptop to online.

Thanks!
