Windows 7 Install on Inspiron 9300--Drivers?

Q: Windows 7 Install on Inspiron 9300--Drivers?

Decided to try Windows 7 on my 9300 laptop. So far, pretty good. Performance is fast, but I need a few drivers I can't find:
1. The multimedia audio driver (no sound). Any ideas where a Vista driver could be found?
2. Can't get the correct resolution on my display with the standard VGA driver in Win 7. ATI is no help; can't find a Dell driver for Vista for the X300 mobile display adapter.
3. Touchpad only works for moving the mouse pointer; the scroll bars don't work. I assume I need a newer Vista driver for the touchpad software.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

ATI did release X300 support - you might need to go to a driver modding site to get one that works (www.omegadrivers.net) -- that said, the X300 isn't a strong Aero runner so you may find it sluggish with that option turned on.
The system uses a Sigmatel 9750 chipset for audio - they may have Vista drivers.
The touchpad is an Alps - likewise, try them for a touchpad driver.

There is no dedicated Windows 8 Driver for the ATI Mobility X300/X600/X1300/X1400 graphics cards but I have documented that the Windows Vista Driver R153383.exe will install and work reliably in Microsoft Windows8.
The steps for installation are listed below:

Download the R153383.exe drvier from: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails?driverId=R153383 and extract the compressed files, then cancel the automatic installation of the driver (It crashed out on me when I ran the install)
From The Style UI interface, move the mouse pointer to the lower left corner, and Right Click, select Device Manager from the pop-up menu.
Click the arrow next to Display Adapter, Microsoft Basic Display should be listed.
Right Click the Microsoft Basic Display and click Update Driver, then select Browse My Computer ...., then Click Let Me Pick From a List ....
Click the HAVE DISK Button in the Install from Disk Window, browse to the C:\Dell\Drivers\R153383\Packages\Driver\Display\LH_INF folder and click CL_45540.inf then Click Open and OK to install the driver.

I have completed this process on both an Inspiron E1505/6400 and Inspiron 6000 and both systems are working fine, even power management seems to function well.

A:How to install Windows 8 video/graphics drivers for an Inspiron 6000/6400/E1505/8600/9100/9200/9300/9400/E1705 Latitude D610/D810 or Inspiron XPS notebook system

Can you get a multiple display with a projector? I was able to get the ATI Mobility x300 as the display adapter, but I can only get one display at a time. With XP, I could see my laptop screen duplicated on a projector and I would like to be able to do the same under Windows 8.
When I check the display with the Control Panel, it allows for only one display and the monitor is a generic PnP monitor and the adapter is the Microsoft Basic Display driver.
I didn't use the method that you suggested to get the X300 adapter.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

I finally have a bit of time on my hands and I would like to try to get my lappie to use it's internal 350 B/T card so that I can use "skypeheaset" with it and pair a B/T headset up for skypeout use..

I have an Inspiron 9300 with internal 350 BT card and WinXP sp 2.

Also, if possible, I would like to be able to get this assigned for use during video-conferencing.

As far as I know, I need three thing.

1. The headset (duh)
2. Widcomm drivers (the B/T stack that comes with the Inspiron is pathetic and Dell are less than useless when it comes to trying to change/fix it)
3. Skypeheadset software.

Has anybody had any luck completing this process, if so, with which headsets?

If so, any tutorials etc available? All of the ones I have found so far are years old and for different equipment.

Thanks.

I have a recently bought DELL Inspiron 9300 with 512 MB of RAM and a Nvidia GeForce Go 6800. I recently went to Dell's site and noticed there were a few updated drivers (graphics and wireless network card) so I installed them as well as an update for Dell's MediaDirect.

Microsoft's crash analysis site just said a driver had an error which isn't very helpful. And Dell's support wasn't very useful.

I'm leaning towards the new Nvidia Geforce Go 6800 drivers (78.11), but I haven't seen any reports that they are causing blue screens.

Can anyone tell me what driver caused the crash? Thanks.

A:Intermittent BSODs after updating drivers on Dell Inspiron 9300.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Both your minidumps crash at nv4_mini.sys which is your videocard driver.

Update to the latest version of your videocard drivers.

If you are already using the latest drivers, then try using an older version.

Just remember to uninstall your current drivers first, before installing any other video drivers.

P.s from only two minidumps, I can`t guarantee that the info I have given you is 100% correct, although it may well be.

I'm planning on doing a clean install of windows 7 via flash drive on my Inspiron 570. (Using Iso image from Digital River)

I've downloaded the LAN Driver from here. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?lang=eng&DwnldID=18795

I've also downloaded Modem, Audio, Chipset, Serial ATA, Video drivers from here http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/product/inspiron-570

I've also downloaded the network drivers from the the Dell website but they didn't work for me last time, read up on the here as well. http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19458386.aspx

I'm trying to be as detailed as possible because i'm new to the technical aspect of computers

A:DRIVERS HELP. Going to clean Install Windows 7. Inspiron 570

I think the logical way to do this is install in sequence :

Windows
Chipset drivers
SATA
Video
Audio
LAN  and WLAN

There is the possibility that Windows might ask for the SATA drivers either before or during the Windows install.

Given that you say that you have had a problem with the network I would get hold of a copy of 'Speccy' from here

www.piriform.com

A very useful utility which will tell - as well as far more information that you won't need at the time ! - exactly what hardware you have built into your computer. Armed with the knowledge of exactly what LAN and WLAN hardware you have, finding the correct drivers becomes much easier. One other tip - Dells very often come with a barcode on them somewhere. If you type the number off the barcode into Dell's support page you will get taken directly to a page where all your drivers are available.

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 531 at a garage sale. It came with a version of Vista that was cluttered up, full of viruses and in general full of problems. I don't like Vista anyway (I generally run Kubuntu or Mint for most of my computing), and I have a generic MS Windows XP sp2 install pack laying around. After installing XP, I loaded my linux OS's as usual, with no problems. The problem is with the XP install. It appears that Dell, in it's wisdom, made the Inspiron 531 specifically for Vista and the standard drivers available on Dell's site don't function well with XP (can't connect with the Web, graphics "roll-over" with the bottom showing at the top of the screen, and generally don't work well with the onboard graphics card 'Nvidia GeForce 6150'). Does anyone know a scource for drivers that will 'work-around' this issue? I know that the order the drivers are installed is important, so I wiped the drive and made a fresh install of Windows with no changes. The system setup is: Dell Inspiron 531 with AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ running at 2.0 Ghz with 4Gbs memory. I am set up for triple boot on two HDDs running Kubuntu 12.10 and Linux Mint Maya on one 260gb Hd and Windows XP Home edition Sp2 on a 40Gb Hd. I've searched this site and seen mention of a couple of users with XP running on this model, but no mention of the preferred drivers. Dell has been no help, as this is a discontinued model. Thanks ... Read more

I hope this is the right forum for this kind of question, first time on one of these sites.

I downloaded Starcraft 2 last night and went to bed, then got up this morning to install it. When I double clicked on the install file, nothing happened. I waited and did it again. I rebooted my computer and tried again, nothing. When opening my task manager, I have an installer.exe running, but it seems to freeze as soon as I start the file and does absolutely nothing.

So I went to Blizzard's tech support and found the corresponding topic, they told me to make sure all my drivers were up to date. I went to Dell's tech support and found the right drivers, then downloaded them. However, I cannot install them because when I start the install, nothing happens. Again, I get an exe file in my task manager but all it does is appear then sit there.

Has anyone else seen this sort of behavior? If so, how can I go about fixing it?

A:Cannot download/install drivers/programs, Windows XP, Inspiron 530s

If you haven't already do a complete uninstall of Starcraft 2. Can you now do your Dell updates?

Also, when you tried installing the first time did you disable your firewall/antivirus? I found if I don't disable my Online Armor (great firewall by the way) I'll have loading/installing issues. Once I install a game and then renable my firewall then things are fine.

After upgrading to Windows 10 I have been having weeks of problems with the AMD 8870M graphics card on my son's Inspiron 5737 with the computer freezing up.  In the end it was necessary to deactivate the graphics card and deinstall the driver to prevent the computer freezing up.

I have checked for all driver updates and have successfully installed autodetected driver updates (as of the 28th October so after a recent driver update of all on the 27th October) including,
- The Intel chipset drivers
- The Intel HD graphics driver
Moving on to the AMD driver I downloaded this from the Dell driver site and (after deactivating automatic Windows 10 driver updates) ran the driver installation software.  This starts ok, but then freezes part way through the installation ... the screen freezes and shortly afterwards the cooling fan goes into overdrive.   After 10-20 minutes I do a hard shutdown and restart the computer.
This process has been repeated several times with both the drivers from the Dell site and from the AMD download center.  No success, same result.

Hey guys,
I just bought a Dell Inspiron 3537 with 500 gb hard drive capacity, 4 GB RAM, no graphics card and came with UBUNTU as its OS. So I made a clean install of Windows 8.1 pro myself. All the drivers that have been provided by the site installed perfectly, except for the 1705 wireless and bluetooth driver :/ Please help !!It says that the driver isnt for my platform .. wth :@I even tried checking my drivers via Intel and it says that it doesnt recognize my wireless card.

A:Dell Inspiron 3537 , can't install 1705 wireless and bluetooth drivers on Windows 8.1 pro

Dell Wireless 1705 is not an Atheros Card therefore the Intel download centre will say its an unrecognised device. Follow the instructions here and provide the hardware IDs for your wireless card as sometimes the Dell Service Tag gives the wrong drivers:
http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/downloading-drivers-checking-hardware-ids-and-downloading-and-installing-dell-system-drivers-in-the-correct-order/
Does it match:
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0036 PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0036&SUBSYS_020C1028&REV_01 PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0036&SUBSYS_020C1028 PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0036&CC_028000 PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0036&CC_0280
If so try this driver

Hello. I have an Inspiron 9300 laptop that started messing up recently. When I boot up, the bottom 3/4 or so of the screen are just a series of vertical lines. The top 1/4 is perfectly fine. Everything works normally, it's just that I can't see anything below the top 1/4 of the LCD. When I hook the laptop up to another display ( I hooked it up to a TV) everything works fine, so I'm assuming it's not a video card issue. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue. I'll probably end up taking it apart and seeing if there's a loose connection between the vid card and the lcd screen. But any tips are appreciated. Thanks.

Looking at other posts here and elsewhere, it should be compatible. Nobody seems to mention anything like this anywhere. I don't want to go through the delicate procedure of changing over my CPU just to find out that my computer doesn't recognise it....

It'll work, but don't expect much difference - the difference will be negligible to barely noticeable.  Unless you're getting a 780 for free, it's not worth paying for.

Setup will now exit.

Also, under the nvidia settings on my computer, it says my max resolution is 1440 x 900. I was under the impression this laptop with video card could go to 1920 x 1200. Am I doing something wrong here. Is there any way to make the picture quality better and increase the resolution?

Yes, to a faster Pentium M CPU.  The Core CPUs (Core 2 Duo, Core Duo, Core Solo, Pentium Dual Core, or Celerons based on them) cannot be used.

The fastest is the Pentium M 780 (2.26/533).   These haven't been made in some time but may still be available as old stock or used.

You want to know if YOU can tap into it? First, the XBOX 360 does not have Bluetooth technology, so that won't make a difference. I believe the Xbox uses Wi-Fi, but only if you buy the Wi-Fi adapter. The Xbox can stream media from computers on its network, but I don't think a PC can stream (or steal) media from the Xbox, though I'm not sure about that.

Ok, here's my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 (with ATI mobility Radeon X300). Whenever i turn it on, the screen splits. One side (the right) appears ok, while the left is shifted to the right (so there is a big black space on the far right of the screen) and is all fuzzy.
There is also a barrer between the two sides, so that when i move my mouse from one side to the other, the pointer would disappear for a few moments.
Lastly, after a few minutes on, the left side would "degrade" into muticolored lines and eventually black out. its a little hard to explain.

Now, i know its a hardware problem, but i dont know whether it is the moniter, the video card, or something else in the machine. I also need to know what i should do with it from there. Thank you.

Hello all!
I am glad I found you guys as I am having a major crisis. My 4 year old Dell Inspiron 9300 will not boot in either normal mode or safe mode. Earlier today, my laptop was running slow, so I had to shut it down restart it. When it started to boot, a blue STOP ERROR screen came up, with code 0X0000000A (0X00000000, 0X00000001, 0X00000002, 0X804F9D26). So I tried to restart it again, it went to the black screen where i could choose to start computer in safe mode. But somehow, no matter which mode i start my computer in, it ends up at the same blue death screen with the same information.
Can someone tell me how to fix this. I have not installed any hardware or software. I run Windows XP with service pack 2.
Thank you in advance!!

A:Dell Inspiron 9300 won't boot

Any hardware/software upgrades that may have caused this?
You should try to boot using "Use the Last Known Good Configuration feature".
If that doesn't work, you should try the recovery console.

I have tried to reboot from the o/s cd but after loading set-up files it only offers me the option of overwriting and deleting the partition with all my files and applications. I cannot get to the recovery console. I get to the c:\windows comd prompt but after that it says the command I type is invalid. I have tried ctrl f11 and f8 as advised by some forums, but the screen stays black with flashing cursor. I've removed the battery and run it of a/c power, no good. The computer is old and I want to replace it but I need to get all my files off it before I do. Anyone any more ideas?

A:My Dell inspiron 9300 won't boot

Sounds like the hard drive has failed, but you may be able to recover files by installing a new drive. Remove the old hard drive and put it aside. Format and install Windows on the new drive. Buy an external USB enclosure and install the old drive into it. Attach the USB enclosure to the laptop and see if you can access the files

I recently bought an Inspiron 9300. I am having problems running games on it because there is a lot of stuttering. Stuttering seems to happen more frequently when there is a lot of sound going on. It is so bad, that I can't play any of my games. I noticed that my video card and sound card are sharing the same IRQ. Could this be the cause of the stuttering? Also, in dxdiag, the test sound button gives me an error after testing the software buffers saying that my sound card does not support hardware buffering. My problem only occurs in games. Listening to mp3, or playing movies does not induce stuttering.

What I've tried so far:
- Updating to the latest Dell video and sound card drivers.
- Installling other video drivers like Xtreme-G.
- Flashing the bios to the most rercent version.
- Switching from "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" to "Standard PC". This one did not work because the PCI Express Root Port device was giving an error about not being able to free enough resources. Windows was not able to detect my video card because of this.
- Disabling hardware sound acceleration.

The only solution to the stuttering problem right now is to deactivate the sound card. Once I do this, the stuttering is gone in all of my games. I thought about purchasing a PCMCIA sound card but I heard that it didn't work with internal speakers.

I really need help on this one. I'm considering returning my laptop to Dell since I have three weeks to return it in case I&... Read more

Here's a puzzle I've been trying to solve.
I've taken the Pentium M 750 1.86ghz CPU from my Inspiron 9300 and replaced it with the Pentium M 770 2.13 CPU. Same FSB. Same Cache(s). I've also installed a new fresh HDD.
If I do this:
Dell Inspiron 9300 Bios > Power Management > Speedstep Enable > Off (Place the system into the lowest performance state and prevent the Intel SpeedStep(tm) applet or native operating system driver from adjusting the processor's performance)

I can boot from the Windows 7 32-bit dvd, format the new HDD, and Install Win 7 without any problems. I can then restart the machine and use Win 7. Performance is slow and the "Windows Experience Index" gives the CPU a "1.4".
I can also boot from dvd and run the recovery programme (I've done this after enabling speedstep, getting the error[below], then disabling speedstep again and rebooting. It doesn't solve the problem.).

If I then do this:
Dell Inspiron 9300 Bios > Power Management > Speedstep Enable > Enabled (Allow the Intel Speedstep(tm) enabled CPU to operate in multiple performance states)

The "Windows Boot Manager" error screen [below] appears after the BIOS screen. F8 does not do anything. If I hit f12 and boot from DVD, I get the "Press any key to boot from cd screen", followed by the same "Windows Boot Manager" Screen", so I can't run recovery that way.

I've been getting BSODs since I purchased the laptop in January. Now I checked the forums previously and found the problem w/DLA, and so I uninstalled it. However, I'm still continuing to get BSODs. While working with Dell, I ran every single hardware diagnostic possible & all the tests passed. I've also used their crash analysis tool & it comes up w/no matches. I then did the virtual memory page reset that Howard suggested. I still got a crash.

I've attached the last five minidumps, although some might have been caused by DLA: I know at least the last two BSODs occurred after I uninstalled DLA. Much thanks!

Hey I was posting on another issue, but just by chance, I have your same problem also. I got a Dell Inspiron 9300 several months ago and have had almost 4 BSODs. I found that it typically happened whenever adjusting the volume with the media buttons, so I disabled the onscreen volume meter from Dell quickset, and it seems to have stopped BSODing . but time will tell =D

I bought a WD Scorpio Blue 160 gb hard drive . Salesperson said I could go up to a 250 gb, but I didn't think I needed too. I just now read here about the BIOS not liking anything more than a 120 gb , that's fine, I'll partion and take chances.

When I boot the system won't see the 160 gb HD. I have a Dell WinXP disk in and set boot priority to CD/DVD first. Windows starts to load, but stops and says it doesn't recognize the drive either. What am I doing wrong??

A:Inspiron 9300 Hard Drive Upgrade help

Chances are you missed the blade adapter -- transfer it from the back of the original drive to the new one, or the drive isn't connected to the system board.
For the sake of your data, yes - make sure you make a 120G partition and install Windows to it.  DO NOT use a single partition the full size of the drive or you WILL lose data.

This morning I woke up to see blue flashes coming from my office at home. My cat had eaten through the cord BETWEEN my LAPTOP and it's POWER BRICK. Fortunately the cat had also pulled the cord free of the computer - and the power brick itself seems to be in good working order.

Unfortunately the cat was still alive and probably hadn't been taught much of a lesson.

I took one look at the cable and decided that the two areas where the cat had eaten through plastic just had to be cut from the cable (luckily both bite-spots are close to each other) and then the remaining good parts of the cable could be spliced together.

However, I'm now wondering if a trip to Radioshack is in order. I would like a longer cable between power brick and computer anyway. Since I am at work now and would like to swing by radioshack on my way home from work, I cannot take another look at the damaged cable. I've checked online and can find no pinouts or schematics of the power supply.

So I guess my question is this...

If you were going to repair an Inspiron 9300 Power Supply cable and you wanted to do a really good job of it, what supplies would you pick up from Radioshack while you're out shopping for a cat defibrillator? Any idea what kind of replacement cable I should be picking up? Also, are there any protective cable sleeves I can buy to prevent this kinda thing happening again?

Hey all.

I have a really annoying issue with my current Inspiron 9300 that it seems a few others are having. The socket for my power supply is loose on my system board, so the A/C power keeps going on and off, thus causing my screen to blink every time. Its only getting worse and I'm waiting for the day that I don't have the ability to charge it anymore.

So, onto my question. Is there any way that you can replace just the socket without the entire system board without getting too technical? I haven't really opened it up and investigated, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 9300 System board

In most cases all that is required is the pins on the socket to be re-soldered back on. That generally requires a full dis-assembly of the unit to gain easy access to it to repair it. If you wait too long you risk the chance of actually damaging the board and then you will require a new one for it.

Ok, I wanna see if I get a different answer. My laptop is about a year old and when I went to turn it on yesterday morning it wouldn't turn on without the powerpack plugged in. So I plugged it in and it worked. But the battery light is blinking non-stop(orange warning light). I took out the battery and put it back in and nothing changed. I pushed the battery life button on the bottom of the battery itself and there are 5 lights but only the 1st,middle, and last light, lights up and blinks. What is the problem? Is it a dead battery?

Hi

I am guessing that there are some bad cells in the battery, If its a year old try ringing Dell direct and ask them, it may still be a warrantied item.

However if you bought it second hand then Dell wont deal with it and your only course is to buy a new battery.

Hello, this is my first post here, i am a tech guy myself and i am stumped for once on something.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop with a 17" screen witch started to have lines on it.

1. I plugged it into an external LCD and it worked just fine.
2. I ordered a new LCD from ebay, i had to clip the LCD cable hinges to fit the new screen. (http://www.yall.net/Laptop-LCD-Screen-Repair/how-to-fit-the-video-cable-connector.html)
3. Once i plugged everything in, the screen would not turn on, neither would the old one.
4. Bought an LCD cable and inverter and i still can not get neither the old screen nor the new one to turn on. It works just fine with a external monitor. I have tried hitting Function and CRT/LCD button on the keyboard as well.
So i have 2 screens, 2 LCD cables (one clipped), 2 inverters. Nothing seems to work. On board video works with a monitor. I am out of options so i need some help.

Runs through post hits the hard drive and stops with a flashing cursor in the upper left corner. I've been trying to make a bootable USB but the only other puters I have is a Mac, and a compaq running win98. Now I have 98 able to talk to a usb drive, but the HP tool to make a bootable USB bombs out with an illegal call, and the dos based tools don't like fat32 (4GB usb drive) and I cant get fdisk in the 98 puter to play nice with the usb drive.

I'm going to work tomorrow and use another XP box to make the USB drive bootable, then bring it back and SYS it from windows to try to access the drive in the Dell.

But I'm open for any more ideas.

Hi

Hope someone can help with this one because Dell can't. My laptop has a wireless card. I have a Hawking Wireless 54g High Speed G Router HWR54g, this is connected to a D Link DSL 504 router.

My problem is that I can only get wireless connectivity whilst I am in my own home. As soon as I take the laptop out of the house, although the internet says its connected to any unsecured network, the web pages are "not available".

This defeats the object of having a wireless laptop. As I am a total novice could someone shed some light on this one as I am going away soon and want to take the laptop with me.

The wireless card has been replaced by Dell but that has made no difference.

Thanks for looking.

Hi everyone. I'll get right to it:

Yesterday I was running my Dell Inspiron 9300 on battery power until I got the 'low battery alarm' (I think it's set for when the power level reaches 13 percent). I seldom do this, but I lost track of time.

Anyhow I plugged the adapter back in and the laptop switched to AC power. However, the battery status light started to blink orange.

I've looked at my power settings and they indicate that the battery is 98% charged. It's been at that for awhile. Even when I unplug the power source it still blinks orange.

The only thing that works is removing the battery altogether. As it stands, the computer functions just fine, but that flashing light is driving me nuts. Any suggestions?

A:Dell Inspiron 9300 - Flashing Orange

From the manual:
CHECK THE BATTERY STATUS LIGHT — If the battery status light flashes orange or is a steady orange,
the battery charge is low or depleted. Connect the computer to an electrical outlet.
If the battery status light flashes green and orange, the battery is too hot to charge. Shut down the
computer, disconnect the computer from the electrical outlet, and then let the battery and computer
cool to room temperature.
If the battery status light rapidly flashes orange, the battery may be defective. Contact Dell.Click to expand...

If your laptop is more than 1-2 years old, suspect the battery is defective. Some Dell batteries have built in status LEDs built in that may tell you more.

Hi, I have recently bought a dell inspiron 9300 laptop from a friend which keeps turning off.*

Once the laptop is left for a while and turned on it will get as far as windows xp desktop and then cut out. Then when I power on again it will turn on for a second an then off again, this then keeps happening.

I have cleaned the thick layer of dust that was clogged around the heat sync and I have replaced the heat sync as well. this didn't stop the problem. *I then changed the CPU thinking this maybe the answer but the problem still persists.*

Any ideas?
