On Screen Keyboard wont load

Q: On Screen Keyboard wont load

Hello everyone. I am running Windows 8.1. My computer just installed some Windows Updates and now I can't open my on screen keyboard. When I try it from the start menu nothing happens. When I double click the osk file nothing happens. When I go into change PC settings>Ease of Access>Keyboard and I turn the Keyboard to on nothing happens and when I close out of that and go back in the keyboard is back to turned off. This is very frustrating as I use the on screen keyboard often. I don't like the touch screen keyboard. Can anyone help me get this back? This happened once before and I found a post somewhere that fixed the problem but I don't remember where it was

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Kevin, I have two suggestions that you may want to try...

1. Go to the Start Screen and Pin the KB to the Start Screen and try activating it from there.

OR...

2. Create another User as a Local Account and see if the KB works for that User

Any fans running, any post beeps? Your laptop does not have a CMOS battery. Try removing the chargeable battery and power adapter. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. Plug in just the power adapter and try powering up the machine again.

Alright, i just bought a full upgrade...CPU, Memory, Motherboard, Vid card. I installed all of the items and configured BIOs. Now when i attempt to start it up it goes through all fine until it starts to load window. As the first bar is loading it crashes. It goes to a blue screen for less then a second and then restarts. Then i tried load from last known start configuration but the same things happens...I also tried all of the safe modes they just load and restart. So i then went to go to try to repair with my Windows CD but when it gets to the screen where it asks you to select whether to repair or format or whatever my keyboard dosent work...so i am stumped as to what to do. Backstory (skip if you need)
I'm fixing someones laptop, It was slow and taking 30 minutes to startup, i did the usually virus scan and restarted, then it was stuck in an auto repair loop. I used a windows 8 Install CD from microscoft. None of the options in it would work, install (key doesnt match) reset (missing partition), image recovery (cant find an image), restore (no restore point), etc.

Used command prompt, did stuff like bootrec, bcdedit, diskpart, and chkdsk. After it ran chkdsk it finally loaded windows. I reset/reinstalled the OS completely. Fixed, restarted, running smooth. Owner said it was working great for a day, then after turning it back on it was in an auto repair loop.

Now
It's stuck in a preair loop, I can't even boot from the 8 CD! Have it configured in the bios, it shows the the blue windows logo then the screen goes black for 3 minutes and a blue screen flashes for 1 second saying  "Your PC ran into a problem and need to restart. Collecting some info (0% complete) search online for error: 0x000021a"

The weird thing is, Windows 7 disks boot fine, but it's "not compatible". And if I physically remove the HDD, it will boot into the windows 8 CD. So I put the HDD back in (while still at the command prompt) and it wont take my commands in related to the C: . I get a "System cannot find the drive specified"

I also tried hooking upp the HDD to my PC SATA, it shows in explorer, but just right clicking it crashes explorer.exe. D... Read more

UPDATE:

I got a windows 8.1 disk made and it allowed me yo boot from the CD, but it's SLOOOOW, it takes minutes to load reset or w.e (none of them still work), or open the command prompt.

I ran chkdsk /f /r /x but it didnt help. chkdsk /r ends with:
"A disk read error occurredcc0000185
Insufficient disk space to fix the Usn Journal $J data stream."

Before when I ran it, I'm pretty sure it let me restart and booted into windows, not now.

Next I tried bootrec.
/fixmbr - succesful
/fixboot - succesfull
/rebuildBCD - Total identified Windows installations: 0
/scanOS - Total identified Windows installations: 0

Next bcdedit
Nothing worked "The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be found."

Next sfc /scannow
"There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again."
Then sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=c:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\Windows
"Windows resources protection didnt find integrity violations"

BCDBoot c:\WindowsFailure when attempting to copy boot files

Next diskpart - but I forgot what I did before that may have worked. All i can remember is I had to select a disk or volume, and do something with it.

Just got a TC4200 tablet laptop and installed windows xp on it. Those of you familiar with the model know that it has no cd drive so I had to move the HDD to another laptop to do it so I know the install was good. However when putting the harddrive back in after the HP load screen but before it enters the xp load screen it goes to a black screen with a flashing white _ cursor similar to a dos command but with no text and I cannot type. I have no idea what the issue is nor how to solve it. Any suggestions?

As an extra note I tried the other laptops HDD and it gave the same results so that rules out the harddrive as an issue.

You're probably missing essential device drivers for your laptop's hardware (which would have been installed had you ran the setup on your system). Use an external optical drive enclosure or a flash drive to install XP with the HDD in your system.

Alternatively, if you can get into Safe Mode you might be able to provide the system with drivers manually. You could also probably get away a repair install of XP, but this too would facilitate an optical or flash drive.Click to expand...

trying this nowish just gotta download sdk so I can use a flash drive as I dont have a external cd drive.

Second I do wonder if this is the correct solution as it never gets to the XP load screen so it doesnt have a chance to realize its wrong. Although dont get me wrong I hope its the problem as its an easy fix...

(It said i attached a device and should disconnect and then restart) Then I tried a regedit fix (HKLM .. profiles). After that I cant seem to login even in safe mode. Hi - I upgraded to Windows 10 on my laptop quite some time ago and everything has been fine. However yesterday I found I could not get the Login screen to load. I get the screen with the nice photograph with the legend "Like what you see?" but when I click on the screen it gows blank for a few minutes then the photograph screen comes back. I've tried about twenty times with the same result. I've tried powering off but get the same result. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

hello jscar,

now this sounds like driver issue

what i want you to do is when you start your system (push the start button ) start tapping the (F8) key

now your system should bring up a screan that says

safemode
safemode with network
safemode with command prompt

this first time we co here i want you to select (safemode) / your system should start !! it will be running with generic drivers so everything may look all distorted (suppose to )

if your system dose load thenyou will have a few questions ( just say yes )

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

then get back to us

{My Solultion to the first problem in bold) Reset the CMOS by pulling out the battery and it will show me the motherboard screen.

Ive put in a windows 7 x64 disk in the cd drive however it doesn't give me the option to run it by disk...on the off chance that it doesnt freeze at the motherboard screen i can get into the bios and it runs DISK->HD->XTERNAL.
{What i think the problem is} i think it lyes somewere in the chipset with the motherboard but how am i supposed to get the chipset if the computer doesnt load and when it does it blue screens and when i try to put a new OS on it it doesnt even load the disk....This is my WALL.

ive tryed using a different powersupply with it but thats not the problem, the computer starts every time it doesnt load anything past the motherboard screen...

Do i tell my buddy to get a new board and cpu or what?

Hi guys, im new to this website, just thought i might get some help here.
My story is:

recently i got a worm by the name of: W32/VB-CYG
what it does is create a bunch of registry entries to execute itself on boot, and also copies itself bunch of times on all removable drives.

well it took me a while, but i think i finally got it off my system.
but next day, when i rebooted my computer, the windows xp login screen will not load, it just stay as a blank black screen.
so i decide to remove my second hard drive which i use for data backup.
guess what? windows boots normally, and i login normally.

so i plug it back in, and then it wont load the login again!
so, does anyone know what might be wrong? do you think the hard drive may be dead?
the thing is i have over 10GB of photos, 15GB music, and over 50GB of other data on it!
is there anyone that might be able to repair it if it is dead?

thanks in advance!

Hello,

After installing COD : world at war I try to start the single player or multiplayer campaign and it goes to a black screen for 5 seconds and then back to my desktop.

If I try to run the game again it says that COD was not shut down properly and I should start it in safe mode....

It does not matter if I answer yes or no to this question, the same thing happens again .... black screen for 5 seconds and then back to my desktop.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling ... same thing

I tried all of the things it says to try for fixing general crashes ... same problem.

I dont even get an error message, just pushed back out to the desktop.

I should also mention this is as far as I have gotten....never even got the game to run once...

My PC exceeds all of the requirements for this game as well...

Any Ideas?

Well, I tried to run FC2 but all I end up with is the small splash screen, I click on it and it wont respond. I heard a lot of things about solutions, but most of them were for certain graphics cards. I did a little more searching and found that Intel might be lying about their game playability of their chipsets (Yes, I have a crappy chipset *Intel GMA 3100 G33*) but someone said it could run Far Cry 2, and they linked it from the Intel website. All my drivers are up to date. I am not sure what to do right now...

A:Far Cry 2 Wont Load Past Splash Screen?

Hello Madandfrustrate,
Go to this site and it will give you an idea as to whether you can run this game or not.

Can You Run It

FC2 is very intense on the graphics, so its a coin flip, if Intel say it will run the game, then it should.
If you get it running, you will have to turn everything down so much that it will not be a great gaming experience.
I have seen Videos of FC2 running on your chipset on YouTube, so it should be possible.

Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.

I thought maybe it has too much stuff on that account, ie hogging memory so i deleted a lot of stuff like 30 gigs of stuff but it still wont load
I need the internet connection at home so i tried going into safe mode with networking (i think that gives a net connection but maybe it emans something else)
i have ran spy bot s&d and deleted everything, also 2 other programmes + ms anti sypware new beta
thinking it was a virus but it cant be.

i tried a lot of the options you get in F8 but only the normal safe mode seems to work. i cant do a system restore as i deleted them yesterday as they were like a few gigs of stuff on it and i cant seem to find my xp cd so i cant reinstall windows, at least for 4 weeks as ican get a copy when i get home.

Hi and welcome to TSF.

My name is Iain and I will be helping you clean your system.

You may wish to Subscribe to this thread (Thread Tools > Subscribe to this thread) so that you are notified when you receive a reply.

svchost is usually a critical system file and must not be removed - however, it can become infected or copied elsewhere.

I'd like to see a log if possible, before doing anything else. Can you boot to Safe Mode?

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable. Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.
Double click the exe file.
The program will begin to run, and perform an initial scan. If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan. Click No.
In any case, after the initial scan is complete, click on the Save button, and save the log file somewhere you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in your reply.

Hi Guys,

I am having some trouble with my computer.
Some History-
The PC is now over a year old and has been running fine for about a year.

2 GB Twinmoss Ram
200 Sata HD

Now about 6 months ago, I started to get the Nvidia card sentinal saying the Graphics Card isnt getting enough power and will reduce its performance to prevent any damage. I checked it all out and it appear to be fine so pretty much ignore the issue.

About 2 months ago my computer, whilst playing a game, would turn off the monitor and shut down, the game in question was City of Heroes. Some nights it would work fine others it would happen twice then run fine again.

Last week the computer was running really slow and had a process running at 99%. I fixed this by deciding to do a complete formatt and resinstall.
I reinstalled everything including the graphics card drivers (the pop up about insufficient power was still there). Everything was running fine until last night when the screen went in horizontal lines of greens and whites.

On a restart it gets to the windows logo with the progress screen and then remains blank.
I then restarted and up came 'the Windows did not start properly last time' and listed the Safe mode options. Obviously normal did not work but i could use both Safe modes.
Now thinking the PSU was at fault, I ran out to get a new 600 Watt PSU and the same thing happened.

I purchased a new computer a little over a week ago, and installed a new copy of Vista on a new hard drive. The system will usually run great for a day or two, then I'll get all these random errors out of nowhere, taking forever to start up, being stuck on "Configuring Update" screens, countless blue screen errors, or start up errors (corrupt files, failed to shut down, etc). I've had my system restore points dissapear. When I'd run Vista disk to do a start up repair, my HD would no longer show up as it use to before. Basically, I've reformatted and reinstalled Vista 4 times. I came across a fix for the "Configuring Updates" problem, which was the first problem I came across. Trying to access anything else (regular start up, safe mode start up, vista disk system repair, etc) all just seem to get stuck on a black screen or take forever, and as I said, I really have no idea if the computer is actually doing anything, or if it's just stuck. Is there a guide I should be looking for, to give me any ideas of how to run a stable Vista? If I reformat this again, everything will be fine and dandy for a day or two, then the problems will start rolling in. I don't know how to prepare for or combat this.

Yeah I know.....crap explaination.  Ok. My gorgeous girlfriend has quite an old tower system and it is running windows XP home edition.  It has recently refused to load up to the desktop screen.  This is the sequence of events :-
You turn on the computer and various screens pop up with geeky information then the windows XP logo appears with the loading bar.  This then disappears and a black screen appears with various information regarding the computer. Its says
"WINDOWS DID NOT START PROPERLY SUCESSFULLY.  A RECENT HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE CHANGE MIGHT OF CAUSED THIS.

The options that are available are:-

SAFE MODE.
SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING
SAFE MODE WITH COMMAND PROMT.

LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION WHICH MOST RECENT SETTINGS THAT WORKED.

START WINDOWS NORMALLY.

If you leave the screen and don't select any of the above the computer just keeps going round in circles and ending up at the screen above.

SAFE MODE, SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING & LAST KNOW CONFIGURATION POINT  just do the same when selected.

The SAFE MODE WITH COMMAND PROMPT takes you to a colourful screen with 2 separate menus.  These options are out of my league.

Please help as this problem needs sorting and she has a lot of course work she doesn't want to lose.

It would be most appreciated.

Cheers

Was there any new hardware or software installed recently?

Can you boot into Safe Mode?  You weren't clear on this.

1. Please give us details of your system specs.

2. Have you removed or replaced the CPU lately?....and likewise to the RAM or any other hardware components.

I have a Toshiba Satellite C850 - 1GL laptop with windows 8.1 and every time i try to load windows i get to the login screen and the laptop crashes. I cannot enter a password to access my account, restart or anything. I have to turn the laptop off with the power button.
I managed to access the bios and used a windows 8 disk, but i can't use any of the options for example automatic repair, refresh and system restore. I get a message saying the drive where windows is installed is locked. unlock the drive and try again.
I try to use the reset pc option but I get a message saying unable to reset your pc, a required drive partition is missing.
Has anyone got any ideas?

I have a Logitech G15 keyboard with a built in lcd screen that works fine when I start my computer but it will not wake up coming out of sleep mode. It displays the logitech logo but will not do anything else. If I unplug the usb cable it will reset and work fine. I spent two weeks going around and around with logitech tech support and the best they could do was give me a discount on a refurbished keyboard. I've updated and back dated drivers as I was getting bsod's traced to an old keyboard driver and everything works ok but it would be nice if I could get the clock to work. Any suggestions?

I'd suspect a driver glitch, likely related to the other driver issues you were having. The only solution for such issues is typically a fresh OS install.

Hey my first post, thanks in advance for the help.

I just picked up a Toshiba Satellite A305 Home Premium 64bit SP1 (best buy)

A couple little bugs I would like help with though.

I was playing with the on screen keyboard and now I cant get it to stop opening up on start up. I have tried to check/un-check the box for it, apply/OK nothing seems to keep it off. --FIXED

While we are at it how about adding a icon for IE or Firefox to the task bar they disappeared with the 3D flip icons. If I drag anything down there I only get a red circle with a line through it.--FIXED
Any help would be appreciated.

So, basically the problem with my computer is that when i start windows normally it gives me a black screen with cursor. I searched in this forum and other forums for help but nothing helped. i tried loading in safe mode but it hangs in classpnp.sys, tried restoring, tried recovery options still doesn't work. Also, tried re-installing windows, but when pressing install it would give message on the screen "Setup is starting..." and it just loads, and nothing happens, i gave it an hour or two before i gave up. I am sure the CD is fine because it worked on the same pc before. It is windows ultimate 32 and 64 bit and computer supports both.
I have a Dell computer and it is not old, I bought it like 6months ago. If anyone could help, i would really appreciate it. Thanks

My Medion PC running Windows XP loads past the windows loading screen then simply goes black but the computer is still on and the screen is still active. My dual boot of Ubuntu works perfectly as does safe mode. Ive had this issue for a while but it used to turn on after i rebooted it but now it only turns on occasionally. Also I'm almost certain its got nothing to do with my hardware. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please help me!!

My computer keeps loading up the black screen asking if i want to load it in safe mode. No matter which option you pick it just restarts and loads the same page again and again.

I've tried un-plugging it and leaving it for a few days but just get the same problem. I think it has a virus but am unsure.

Do you think re-installing windows will solve the problem?

A:pc wont load windows and just keeps reloading the safe mode screen!!!

Yes, re-installing Windows will most likely solve the problem. Remember that by doing this you will lose everything on your hard drive, so slave it to another computer or put it in an external case to get anything important off it.

Google will tell you how to slave a drive (usually by connecting it to the other computer's secondary IDE cable).

Hi...I have a compaq 5108US, windows xp pro.. recently installed a new hard drive, which worked fine for a few months. now when I try to turn on the computer, all I get is a black screen, with the compaq logo, and an immediate blinking cursor in the upper right hand corner. Tabbing f8 etc does not bring me to the safe mode option screen. I had the same problem a few months ago, of which I ended up having a new hard drive installed and that solved the problem. I wouldnt think a new hard drive would go bad that quick (if this is the problem this time). No beeps.. I also installed a new memory board, and it reads 504 memory ok, 164 memory size error, in addition to the black screen, compaq logo and blinking cursor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

A:Computer Wont Load up frozen start up screen RAM problem

Hi sorry you seem to have a poor impression of techs lets hope we can help you and possibly change that, 2 things come to mind, the slot is bad ie damaged in some way or the ram is,when you tested the ram in the slot did you try only 1 stick, try 1 of the others in it if it works ok then it is the ram that is the problem,if not then it is the slot, you can run with 1 less stick of ram, also check that the ram all matches as this would throw up a similar problem

I was recently uninstalling unwanted programs from my computer when i accidently uninstalled my nvidia driver for my graphics card. It told me to restart.

Now when i get to the log in screen the mouse and keyboard won't work so i cant log into windows or do ANYTHING!!!

I have tried plugging in a different mouse and keyboard, the lights on the keyboards flash to indicate they are connected, the mouse lights up, except they will not work!

The keyboard works when i use BIOS and the USB thing is set to enabled. It seems my only option is to reinstall windows from the disc but i have valuable files on my hard drive.

Please, please help!

Everything works fine except for a little something that is just annoying.
I can deal with it, im just wondering why it would happen.
Im using an SSD to boot up. Everything works fine and fast except when it gets to the Windows Splash screen.
The monitor seems to lose signal and my g15 keyboard's LCD shuts off and i wait for about 6 seconds. After that i can hear the login sound my keyboard LCD turns back on while the monitor goes back to the DVI connection displaying the login screen
Anyone know why this would happen after the windows splash screen?
Is it drivers?

Hey everybody. A little while ago, I updated my Dell XPS M1530 laptop NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphics card and the next day, the display was all blue with horizontal lines going through it. There was sound, but that's all what I was seeing. I turned it on and off again and again but to no avail. I left it on for a while and then suddenly the display cleared up and the Start up repair screen was on and it stayed that way for 12 hours so I turned it off and then on again( bear with me here lol). The BIOS screen appeared so did the OS loading screen later but that was about it. The screen was black. Safe mode wont work, it always stops at
:\Windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys

System restore wont work also, it just freezes, Startup repair keeps apparently freezes too, it keeps loading for 12 hours with no change. Im reallly confused and I don't know what to do. Im trying to avoid using the Factory Image Restore since I have so many important files that I dont want to delete. I really appreaciate any help over here guys. Thanks =)
