Preferred Solution: Thunderbird strange characters in outgoing emails

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Guys, my wife has been having some issues when receiving some e-mails from people. Not every time and not from the same people... meaning, sometimes the e-mails get there ok and sometime, even from the same people, they get all wigged out. Below you will see a sample of what the e-mail looks like.

This time, the email was sent by me (using Thunderbird, XP w/SP3... but it was a Forwarded email, that much I remember) to my wife (Using Outlook 2003, Vista Ultimate 64bit) but she has other e-mails that look fairly similar to what mine looks like, problem is, I don't know what those people use even if I have asked. :?
Again, I don't suffer from it and I also use Outlook at home and have used it before in my office PC. At home, I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit (outlook 2003) and also Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit (Thunderbird) and the one with the problem is the Vista side.

Please, do not suggest I move her to the Win 7 side, I have already tried and only those who are Married can understand the power of the Vagina... I'll just leave it at that!

Here is a sample of the email received.

I just installed Thunderbird on Kubuntu.

It has all the features I need and more. When I download my new mail, everything works great. ( I have one primary and 2 secondary accounts with my mail provider.)

But when I try to send from any of the accounts, the message goes nowhere.

I looked at my outgoing server settings, and TBird uses just the one SMTP setting from the primary account. I noticed there is no place to specify the password for the SMTP server, so it is apparent TBird is using the POP password for the outgoing connection as well. This should be OK, but for some reason, it's not working. There don't appear to be many things I can change in the Outgoing Server Settings, so I'm stuck at this point.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

This message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server smtp.ntlworld.com failed. This server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that you SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else contact your network administrator.

I haven't changed anything at all I just updated and everything LOOKS to be exactly the same... this is really frustrating please help

I was asked to give additional info on my problem. I am using windows 7 on internet explorer. We are connected with at&t for the internet. The computer is a 4 month old Dell Inspiron 660 with i5 processor. I recently had a trojan horse that totally messed up my computer so badly that I brought it to a computer repair shop and had windows reloaded. The computer is working fine now. Before the trojan horse I was using Office 2003 and doing all my emails from outlook. When windows was reloaded I uploaded the same Office 2003. I configured emails to go to outlook but for the life of me outgoing emails are getting stuck in the outbox. I can go over to google gmail and both send and receive emails (I just like the outlook setup). There is alot of info on the internet on how to change your emails over to outlook. I am currently using IMAP. I also tried it with POP3 but no matter what I do outgoing emails go to the outbox. I feel the system is configured correctly. I get a message that the info I put in is correct. I have no problem receiving emails on outlook.

What can I do to be able to send emails out using outlook 2003? I can send an email out on google gmail so I don't have a problem with the internet connection. Thanks for your input!!

A:Solved: outgoing emails stuck in outlook 2003. Emails getting stuck in outbox

In almost all cases, it's just a matter of the settings not being correct, maybe the SMTP port number is incorrect or authentication needs to be turned on.

Also, if you had messages already waiting in the Outbox before changing any settings, you should delete those and try sending a new message.

Here's the AT&T settings: http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB401570&cv=801&_requestid=334567#fbid=Yg-D7qm9g7_

And the configuration steps: http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB401573#fbid=Yg-D7qm9g7_
It's pretty close for Outlook 2003.

I set up my Thunderbird account and am able to download emails from my server, gameandsave.com, without any problem. I have another computer at my dad's house and he uses optonline.net over there, and I never had any issue with thunderbird.

However, at my other house, which has Comcast as an internet service provider, I am having issues with sending emails. Whenever I go to send an email, I get an error message saying that the SMTP server was not found, and the email doesn't send.

I've tried messing with the SMTP outgoing message settings, like changing the port 25 to the 587 and the other one, whatever it is. Tried changing around my username and stuff, but nothing seems to work. I'm stuck now because I never had this problem at the other house and I am not too good with computers so when stuff starts to go wrong like this, I don't know what to do. I read the comcast forums, nothing they said helped. I called Comcast also trying to explain the situation, but they told me I gotta contact my service provider, which is gameandsave.com, but then the people hosting my site told me it's not an issue with them - and I agree because I don't have this problem with optonline.net.

Please help. Thank you.

A:Problems with outgoing SMTP email using Thunderbird & Comcast

Double check with Comcast to make sure that they allow users on their network to send e-mail through non-Comcast SMTP servers. Some ISPs block such connections as an anti-spam measure. In this case, they may allow connecting to such servers using an authenticated connection having different port numbers.

When using the Comcast connection, can you ping the other mail server?

Try and disable your AV integration with Outlook and test.

Disable the incoming and outgoing email scanning from your AV and also if Anti Spam filtering is set disable that also.

You will still be protected with your resident AV program.

Hello there. First message for me on this forum.
Yesterday I got huge problems with my PC as it started to behave strangely. After a while I discovered that my email-scanner was scanning hundreds of outgoing emails "sent" from my machine. And in reply I get hundreds of "User unknown"-emails from various email-servers around the world.
After consulting som "experts" they told me to use "HiJack This", and post the log file on this forum.

PS ! I have now installed NIS 2006, and on the first scan this program found a couple of hijackers/Trojans.

So, is there any salvation for me :-)

I've created multiple logos in Photoshop and saved them as .gif files. when I do the stationary picker in Outlook 2002 the logo replicates itself.

The only way I can stop this is if I create a larger canvas in photoshop. When I do that the reply emails have the "Original Info" shows up ontop of the logo.

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Thank you kindly

A:logo on outgoing emails

I have no experience with Outlook.
However, I am guessing that stationery works the same as it does in Outlook Express. What I would suggest is to look at the HTML (HTM) "half" of the stationery. See what code prevents duplication of a single gif.

Again, something I have never done, create brand new stationery with the wizard?

Or write the code yourself if you know HTML.

There are a number of older similar threads out there and I've tried most of the suggestions so I thought to start again. I'm using a new laptop, Windows 7 with Outlook 2003. I've set up a number of email accounts using various ISPs and they all work fine. However, I recently bought a Vodafone Dongle which connects fine to the internet but won't let me send emails from Outlook. I can receive emails but not send them. I've tried various suggested outgoing servers such as send.vodafone.com and smtp.vodafone.net and turning authentication on an off. I've even tried a different outgoing port.

I could upgrade to a later version of Outlook if you think that's the problem but my gut tells me it's a Vodafone dongle issue?

Grateful for any advice.

Don't know how and when, but all of a sudden I've seen all my outgoing emails in text format have a '?' at the beginning of the msg. E.g. "?Hello,...".
Obviously when I compose the msg there is no question mark.
This happens only if I use text format and with all codepages except UTF-8.

I've never installed external email clients and I've always been using Windows Mail and now Windows Live Mail 2011. IE7 then IE8 and now IE9beta. I don't use 3rd party firewalls/antivirus/anti-malware etc.

On the web it's impossible to find a solution and that's the best I've seen: Unwanted Question Mark In Message Body | TheDailyReviewer

Please, can someone help me?

A:Question mark '?' in outgoing emails

If you are running an ANSI program, if it doesn't understand a character, it sticks a '?' in place of it. If UTF-8 works I'd stick with that. I've only used English versions of Windows but from programming I know it's a can of worms when you start getting into code pages, unicode and all that jazz. Not everything understands non-ANSI char set. I'd try another mail program.

Hi,
I have noticed that I have a nasty problem. I first noticed it when I was using AVG 7.5. It kept telling me that WLCtrl32.dll in the system32 folder was a trojan. It would attempt to remove it, but it would always return after a reboot.

I decided to try Bitdefender 2008 total security, and it detects it but cannot remove it. To my shock, Bitdefender shows me that I am transmitting a stream of outgoing emails, even though I do not have Outlook open at the time. I have tried disabling Outlook 2008, WlCtrl32.dll and other applications running, but It keeps sending a stream of outgoing emails.

I have also tried to Microsoft System Repair mode to try and delete WlCtr32.dll, but all I got was a blue screen of death.

I have attached the ActiveScan text file as indicated in the Hijack This steps.

Any hints or help would be greatly appreciated!

I have seen an unusual behavior on sending emails.
Whenever I sent email(s) but at the bottom of the screen, it seems sending more emails than what I was sending. I felt like hallucinating.
I see the same thing when I had used Outlook 2007.
That happens very often.

Just a few min ago, I sent one email to my children but I see that 5 emails were going out.
I could not find or identify 4 other emails. No trace of those emails on my computer. I have no idea what is going on.

Could someone explain to me why some emails were sending out without my knowledge?

Hello:

Need help, please! My new laptop is running Win 7 Home Premium (64 bit) -- also, IE 9, Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Hotmail. Here's the problem:

When composing a new email, it looks fine until it is sent. The recipient, however, recieves a message riddled with unwanted "blank" lines between paragraphs and lines of text. This is not acceptable, especially for business correspondence.

No issues were experienced with my first 3-4 emails. Since then, the problem has been consistent. Might I have inadvertently changed a setting somewhere?

Many thanks for your advice. Dennis M.

Hello, I'm a Newby and not very computer literate !

Do you think a solution can be found for the odd keyborad characters appearing in emails I send to others. It looks fine when I send it and when they receive and send it back email has odd characters in there where I have put punctuation marks like Hyphen, exclamation marks or apostrophe,

This doesn't happen with everyone, just a few people who may be using some sort of webmail but should it happen at all ?

Someone has suggested it is a unicode problem when I set it up. Does anyone know what unicode setting I should have for Windows Live Mail using Windows 7 on a Sony Vaio 64 bit laptop. This also happens in BT Yahoo mail

Here are a few cut and pastes of the problem...........1) mainly exclamation marks the 2nd was just a simple apostrophe in don't.......

A:Odd Characters in Returned emails

Try using a different font when sending your emails. The odd characters usually indicate that the other person may not have the same font that you are using, especially if it's a "special" font.

The most common and compatible fonts are Times New Roman, Calibri, and Arial.

ok, this is the weirdest problem i have ever encountered. i work in a IT workshop so am a bit experienced with email servers etc but this problem has me stumped. My dad has a laptop that he takes to work, i set up his emails for him at home so he could take it to work, everything was configured correctly. When he is at work he is unable to send messages due a timeout connecting to the outgoing mail server 'mail.optusnet.com.au'. this is the ISP smtp server and works perfectly on all the other computers on the same wireless and wired network at his workplace. So i went down there to see what was going on. If i change the outgoing to the email provider "smtp.thegroceryclub.com.au" this is registered through netregistry it still wont connect to the outgoing mail server. I tried the same with 3 different outgoing servers that work on the other PC's in the workplace with no success.

Then i came across somethign verrrry wierrd if i send an email with body "test" it will go through fine, but if i write more than around a line or two of text the email attempts to send, the bar goes to 100% sending then sits for 60 seconds and give a server timeout message. Has anybody got any idea why this would be happening. To eliminate the network problem i took the laptop home wiht the exact same settings and it will send fine. So it is not a setting in the laptop i am sure. So i am thinking that it is something to do with the router or ISP but why would all of... Read more

Norton is continually blocking some type of attempted outgoing communication from my machine.  The internet stops working with my wireless card after the blocking really gets going(Norton is keeping and log and whatever it is literally is attempting almost every second to send the infected emails) .

The error message from Norton says "552-5.7.0 this message was blocked because its content presents a potential threat -email details

Sending emails from Incredimail I have noticed just recently they are not sending right away like normal. When I try to send them normally I am getting this error and don't know what this means:

Socket Error: 10054 , Port: 465, Protocol: SMTP. An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

What does that mean? What should I do? Is anyone familiar with Incredimail? Is this just an incredimail thing or a general email client error?

From what I understand for some reason the email sending keeps timing out. I was going to reboot to see if that helped when I just noticed that BitDefender AV is doing a scan in the background. Could that cause this? I thought AntiVirus scans (it is not scanning the email but the computer in general as I just installed it today from the official site and made sure it was up to date) were supposed to run smoothly in the background. All I can figure is my mom (this is her computer and I post on her behalf because she is computer illiterate and always coming to me for help) went afk (Away from keyboard) for a couple hours and the scan started. Is Bitdefender known to slow down a whole computer while scanning? Or is the error a unique one that only has to do with Incredimail? Stats of this computer are in my (my mom's) profile and signature.

Somehow in typing an email I have accidentally changed the font size as displayed on the screen so it is too small to read easily. It is only on the outgoing email, incoming emails and all other Office fonts display as normal.

The actualy font size chosen (Arial 12) is still the same, it is just the display that has shrunk (to about 50%), presumably from a keyboard shortcut that was used accidentally.

Can someone please tell me how to get it back to 100% before I go blind?

Allan

A:How do I change the font display size in Outlook outgoing emails?

If you have opened an email in a separate window - try Zoom Button (it is the last one one the right in Message tab).

If you are talking about general Outlook, where you can preview emails in one of the panes, there is a slider with percentage on the very bottom right.

I use outlook express for email and want to have a company logo in the message itself so that when i create a new one, it gives the details of contact info as well as a logo. I also wanted it to appear as if the email was typed on proper company headed paper so i scanned my company headed paper and saved as jpg then imported into OE but as well as it not looking great, on sending it to people...rather than displaying they got the jpg as an attachment.

does anyone know how i may achieve the above.

A:creating a company logo with outgoing emails in Outlook express

It's easier to make a Word template, type in your text, then select File/Send to/Mail Recipient (as attachment).
This automatically invokes your email-program, get the email-address and Subject, then hit 'Send'.

First I want to say that I've scanned my computer with my antivirus software and used two online virus scanners and my computer is clean. I've also scanned it with spyware/adware programs such as Ad-Aware and a few online spyware scanners and my computer is clean. I have a firewall properly installed/configured and have had no security problems at all recently.

The problem started around Feb. 10 when I discovered that svchost.exe tries to make outgoing connections to download.microsoft.co (64.215.169.168) every 10 minutes on TCP port 80. I've had svchost blocked by firewall for the past three years and I've never had any problems doing that until Feb. 10. I have Automatic Windows Updates set to disabled/manual as I like to install the updates myself so I know exactly what's going on. In those cases I allow svchost to connect to Microsoft. It appears that the IP address belongs to Global Crossing and not Microsoft which makes me very suspicious. It's also tried making outgoing connections to c7.zedo.com.

I can't figure out why all of a sudden svchost is trying to make this connection and if it's legitimate. It may be no big deal but I'd still like to know what's going on. Does anyone have any ideas?

Last year around this time, svchost was trying to make connections to time.windows.com but the IP address did not belong to Microsoft.

I have XP Home Edition and use Outlook Express for emails. I use to use SpamArrow to help filter incoming junk mail but got rid of it in order to use a better program. However, the advertisement placed in my outgoing emails by SpamArrow is still there even though the program is no longer on my computer.
I did a complete scan and search to find any remnants of the program but found nothing. I even downloaded Final Uninstaller to search and remove anything left by the SpamArrow program but it did not find anything. Last, I searched for anything with the spamassassin name because that company is associated with SpamArrow. I found nothing. I can't get rid of the SpamArrow advertisement in my outgoing emails in Outlook Express no matter what I try. All I can do is individually highlight and delete the advertisement every time I send an email. It is very tiring.
I sent emails to [email protected] but they just bounce back. I did the same thing with the spamassassin support email but it bounced back too. I can't reach anyone at the company. Can anyone help me with this problem ?

I have my default email format set to .html. When I compose a new message it looks like everything's working just fine. I send my .html message and even in my sent box, it shows that my .html message formatted properly. However, when others open my messages, they have been converted to plain text. I've checked my office-mates computers and they do not have the setting "convert incoming messages to plain text" so that can't be the problem. I've tested it with 5 people using Outlook who can receive .html messages just fine. I've tested it with my Yahoo address to. For some reason, Outlook is converting my .html (and Rich Text too) email messages into plain text. Everyone else in the office sends and receives html email with a nicely formatted signature just fine. Why can't I? Please help!

I'm running Windows XP with Office 2003 SP 2.

Thanks,

A:Solved: Outlook 2003 Bug - html outgoing emails converted to plain text

Do you have any anti-virus software running on the PC? Some antivirus software may install an Outlook add-in that may convert the message to plain text to avoid spreading of viruses. Check under your "Add-Ins" and disable them all to see if one of the add-ins is causing the problem. If you are on an Exchange server the admin may have also disabled this functionality.

The bugs are mostly random but one; when I put the computer to sleep it wakes up with some of the notification area icons as empty space. That also happens at random sometimes. Other random bugs include:
-Keyboard changes buttons to do unusual things(all at once) where I have been able to revert it by mashing the modifier keys.
-Using the 'Fn' button to turn off my laptops screen occasionally wakes back up instantly.
-When shutting down computer always ask to force close program even when no program exist.
-On startup after entering win7 option during boot drivers are shown as loading.
-On startup after entering win7 another boot menu appears in which there is only one option and if I press 't' the windows diagnostics tool can be used, but the 't' button doesn't do anything. This doesn't happen anymore instead the drivers load now.
-Since driver load screen Windows Task Manager processes are not showing correctly. All processes are under my pc's name and those that aren't are blank in that space aswell as description space. Processes with blanks include the basics; winlog.exe ect. If I right click and open file location nothing happens. If I sleep computer and resume, the processes are back to normal.
