Solved: Can't make video calls in Windows Live Messenger

Q: Solved: Can't make video calls in Windows Live Messenger

I'm trying to use the latest version on Windows Live Messenger Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.726) to make video calls. I have a working webcam and microphone setup already. The problem is that the option to start a video call is faded out, therefore meaning I can't click on it. All the different ways to start a video call are faded out, which means I can't click on it. All the setting under "Tools" -> "Set Up Audio and Video" are correct. I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3. I have a Microsoft Lifecam VX 1000 (includes microphone) that is working perfectly fine.

What can I do in order to get video calls in Windows Live Messenger?

Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a HP Pavillon dv6000 with an intergrated webcam, and it comes pre-installed with Cyberlink Youcam software (and in case u ask, yes I do have the latest update of it). Im using Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit and Service Pack 1.

Video calls with people who do not have Windows live messenger 2009 (or any of the beta versions) is perfectly fine and show is sending and viewing each others webcam. With WLM09 users, I can send and view my contacts' webcam just fine like always.

However since I installed the new messenger I cannot video call other contacts with the new messenger. The second I click the Video tab to start a call, my messenger freezes, and the same happens if I accept their call.

I found one way of going around it, under audio and video set up if I do not set the CyberLink Web Camera Filter as the webcam I want to use, i.e. I select the default Simplo Webcam, which is the webcam with no software, it works! The only problem is the video quality is TERRIBLE and dark when I choose Simplo Webcam for some strange reason. I have always used CyberLink in all my previous versions of messenger and it worked fine. All the advanced webcam settings, brightness contrast blah blah blah, are the same so I dont know why the video quality is so poor..

In the preview in audio and video set up the video is very clear and crisp either way. Thats about all the information I know.

Is the problem with the Messenger or Youcam? Can I improve the quality of the video output w... Read more

A:live messenger 2009 freezes in video calls

Has there been any development with this as I am having exactly the same issue. Video Calls are fine with people using an older version of messenger, but if they are using the current version like me it freezes as soon as we try to connect (if they call me, or I call them). I have tried the "fix" you sugested and it sort of works, but as you said, the video quality is extremely poor, and very laggy.
My laptop is also a DV6000 series but running Vista Ultimate x64 SP2

A few days ago I tried logging in WLM 2011 and it gave me an error saying the application stop working or something like that. So I uninstalled the program using Revo Uninstaller and it uninstalled it and scan leftovers as well. The problem after installion the program gives me an error says wldcore.dll is missing from your computer. I found the dll file and placed it in the installation folder and then it gave me another error saying UXCore.dll is missing from your computer. And again I found a copy of this file and now it gives me another error. Here is a picture of the Error. I also deleted temp files. Also followed a guide for a Clean Installation of Windows Live Messenger and still no results.

I know I must be doing something wrong thats why I would like your help

Thanks alot

A:[SOLVED] Can't Make Windows Live Messenger to work [More Info Inside]

Did you update your Computer to the latest update from Microsoft? There's been a few other posts about Windows Live things stopping working after they've updated to the latest update.

Well, i doubt YOU have done anything wrong, unless you've been going about your computer deleting files at random, so rest asured.

That errormessage there indicated that you've gotten the wrong UXCore.dll file. You downloaded it from the internet, or took it off of another computer, didn't you?
That wouldn't work.

Check for new updates from Microsoft.

Am running a new Sony laptop with a built in web cam. Webcam works OK with the supplied software, (ArcSoft WebCam Companion 2) but does not function with WLM, whether or not the cam has been disconnected after using the ArcSoft application

When I try to run Audio & Video Setup on WLM I get the following message: "We are unable to run Audio & Video Set Up"

The version of WLM that I am using is 2009 (build, 14.0.8064.206)

Would be grateful if anyone has any ideas

Hi all,

I hope I am in the right forum...

A month ago, I bought a new laptop (toshiba portege), vista 32, live messenger 9, Mcafee antivirus.

Every time I try to call on a video chat to my boyfriend in London, after 2-3 minutes, this really loud and metal-like sound is heard, which is REALLY unbearable, I cant hear a word he is saying and I simply must end the call.

It never happened on my previous laptop, he hasn't change anything in his software/hardware.

It happens both when I use the laptop mic, and when I put my shirt-mic.

Someone maybe know whats the problem? it is really hard to have a long distance relationship like that...

Thank you.

I have a slight problem with Windows Live Messenger on Windows XP. Everytime that I am speaking with a person, via instant messages, after a couple of minutes the chat window disappears and I am rendered unable to continue the conversation as when I click on the contact's name to open the window again it won't appear. The only way I could get it back was to sign out and back in, however when I go to sign out it always tells me that all messenger chat windows will be closed when I sign out, this is puzzling as I can see no windows open. I considered doing a system restore until I discovered that I had turned it off to deal with a viral problem, as I was told that sometimes the virus can hide in the system restore, so there are no restore points that are beyond when the problem started. I have also tried to perform a clean uninstall, where I wiped off everything of windows live messenger, and reinstalled it. I have also tried another account, however no matter what I've done the problem has remained. So, if someone could instruct me as to how I could rectify this annoyance it would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Okay, after a tedious hour & a bit of downloading because my mother refuses to pay for broadband[im on dial-up ] I finally installed Windows Live Messenger because apparently(from what I've heard) MSN isn't supposed to work anymore, and tonight, mine stopped working. So, I decided to get Live. I install it, all is well UNTIL I try to sign in..

"Signing in to Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

This really bugs me because when I go to fix it in the thing that scans your settings and makes suggestions it says I have a problem in my Hosts File(happens frequently, tried to 'repair' many times) and a new error in the firewall is blocking it.. I use the XP-SP2 firewall, and I haven't changed ANY settings tonight, so any ideas as to whats going on?

Okay the sounds (When they work) Drive me absolutely bonkers.

Half the time, or more than that they don't even work

So I was wondering perhaps if there is a possible way I could use WLM with the previous sounds of MSN Messenger?

I did a fully clean install after reformating my computer (I've been trying to do a clean sweep for upkeep sakes), and was wondering how I could go about doing this.

I've thought about using messenger sounds from AIM, but that could just possibly confuse me, to the point I'd go bonkers.

I just want my old sounds back, while using WLM.

I know this sounds more than likely like a N00b question but I am totally lost in this aspect.

Edit: In fact any sounds, that would be... well suitable for the sounds for receiving messages, new email, and people logging in would be swell.

Yes used the word swell...

Brain goes splodey now.
