Files NOT showing up in Recycle Bin!!!

Q: Files NOT showing up in Recycle Bin!!!

Hey, my files aren't showing up in my recycle bin when I delete them. I have it set that I DO get a prompt before deletion. I went to that link with the recycle bin registry key thing, and refreshed my desktop... and it still isn't working.

Someone please help? Much thanks. :)

Preferred Solution: Files NOT showing up in Recycle Bin!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you tried disabling System Restore and scan for viruses in Safe Mode? or you can give this a shot

1. Launch regedit.
2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\BitBucket.
3. Change the NukeOnDelete value to 1 to enable immediate deletion or to 0 to disable immediate deletion (i.e., to turn the Recycle Bin back on). If the NukeOnDelete value doesn't exist, create it as a DWORD value

NOTE: Please backup your Registry before attempting 2nd solution. I will not be responsible for any damage done to your Registry.

I deleted some files but they don't show up in the recycle bin. I checked show hidden files and nothing shows up. Also, when I try to empty the recycle bin, it gives me an error that dc438 is in use.

A:deleted files not showing up in recycle bin

Open the recycle bin and right click on the open space. Select properties. If on the Global tab you have a checkmark in the box by "Do not move files to recycle bin ..." you've found your reason. Otherwise, I have no idea what's happening.

I did a search on this and could not find anything. Once in awhile my desktop will have a bunch of random files I deleted a long time ago. I always empty it too. There won't be anything in the recycle bin or on the desktop and then I'll go to look at it after awhile and some other group of files will be there. I have tried the whole "rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin" on every drive on my computer. Windows is installed on C:. This is REALLY weird. It isn't even the same group of files each time, it is just random files I've deleted over the past 2 months. I noticed a folder for a demo install of InDesign comes up a lot and says it is in use when I try to re-delete it, could Adobe's crap software be breaking it? PLEASE HELP, THIS IS VERY ANNOYING.

A:Deleted Recycle Bin files showing up on desktop

its possible that malware programs are doing this.

I would run either SpyBot Search & Destroy or Ad-Aware to remove the malware programs that are causing this.

I use Windows XP. There is not a lot in the Recycle Bin - some goes back to last year. Some recent deletes are there. I deleted a large number of music files (mp3) and folders and only 3 of these files are in the recycle bin. The Recycle Bin settings are global and do not allow for auto delete. The disk space available is large.

History: My computer had been in storage for 16 mos and I have recently been updating everything. Prior to putting it in storage I had to have it professionally restored - they suspected it was a virus. The hardware was affected and as I continued to have odd things happen I added a portable hard drive and changed settings so that My Documents and all subfolders operated from this drive. That is the only drive on which I can find the recycle bin. On the C drive I found something called Recycler.

I am good at emptying my recycle bin, but in the process of doing updates and going through old files and programs I have intentionally not emptied it as I anticipated the chance for mistakes would be greater. I was right, unfortunately, little of what I have deleted is in the bin. Don't know why old stuff is there and so little of recently deleted files/folders can be found.

Thanks,
Trudy

Hello all,

I'm pulling my hairs out on this issue on a domain. Our AD is sitting on Windows Server 2012 R2. We have configured Folder Redirection for users under the domain. Everything is running as usual but Windows 7 clients cannot see DELETED files in the Recycle Bin.
There is no errors or problems with the Recycle Bin as far as I can tell since users CAN see their deleted files when login from a Windows 8.1 PC. The problem seems to be related to Windows 7 I then assume.

For example, User1 logs in from a Windows 7 PC in the domain and deletes a file on the Desktop. The Recycle Bin icon shows that there are deleted files in it but opening the the recycle bin shows no items at all. Same user logs in into the same account from
a Windows 8.1 Desktop and can see the files inside his recycle bin! Has anyone else ran into this issue before? I'd highly appreciate any suggestions.

Hello!

I work on a laptop and a desktop. I use an external 320 GB hard disk to save my files.
The laptop is running windows 7 home basic 64 bit (more than 2 years old) and The desktop is running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit (recently installed with formatting new pc).
The problem is..
If the HDD connected to the desktop and I delete any file from the HDD, the file appears in the recycle bin of the desktop but as I connect the HDD in laptop the files are not appear under recycle bin of the laptop. Likewise any file deleted from HDD appears in recycle bin of the laptop when the HDD connected to the laptop but not appears in the recycle bin when connected to the desktop.
Is it normal? I do not think so. If it is a problem then how can I correct it. I have tried windows troubleshooting -- performance check , HDD error check but no error can be find out in both computers.

Wish for your helpful suggestions.

A:Recycle bin not showing deleted files for an external hard drive

I think this is quite normal if I have read your post correctly. When you delete a file from your external HD the deleted file get transferred to the Recycle Bin of the computer you are using. When you change the external HD to your laptop then there is no record of those files as they have already been deleted & would still be the Recycle Bin of desktop, unless you have deleted them from there.

When I plug the external HD back in, the problem reappears and I can no longer see deleted files in the recycle.bin.

I turned off hidden files/folder in the folders control panel settings, so that isn't the issue. I still have the problem.

Hi... I have a Dell Laptop which is running Windows 7. Whenever i try to delete something, the dialogue box asks "would you like to permanently delete this file?" and seems to totally bypass the recycle bin.

I tried right clicking the recycle bin icon to change properties. The options for "Custom size" and "Don't move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted" are UNCHECKED but are also both greyed out and cannot be changed! "Display delete confirmation dialog" is not grayed out, and is checked.

Also my C: drive doesn't have the Recycle.bin folder. I tried to fix the Recycle bin settings from command prompt by running : rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin. But still after restarting the computer the recycle.bin folder was not there.

Is there any fix for this?

I have gone thru several threads regarding people putting items in the Recycle Bin only to have them not be visible when they open the RB (both in Windows XP and ME). Several of them stated the RB indicated a number of items when they click on "empty", but none of the items are showing. I have seen several answers regarding this - but one, which worked for this "dummy" was to remove the check on the recycle bin box in my Window Washer Program. Some of you may also have a cleaning program which is causing this? Took me quite a while to determine this was my problem. Always ready to share my computer ignorance with others. At least now I can get back my mistakes thrown in the RB. lol!

I've been running Vista Ultimate a year and two months (one of the really early adopters) and have had problems but also seen corrections. For the most part I feel it is fairly stable.

I am having a problem I hope somebody can help me with. My recycle bin doesn't show that it has items to delete. It just shows an empty basket. When I go and check I see things in there so I delete them.

I have deleted the recycle (intentionally) and the went to Personalize on the desktop and chose to set all the defaults. It works for awhile and then it just goes back to showing as though there is nothing in it.

Has anyone else had this problem (I can't be that unique!) and found a way to correct it. Please post and let me know.

Hi friends,

My computer is set up so that when I delete a file it goes to the Recycle Bin. If I choose I can delete the file permanently by emptying the Recycle Bin. Occasionally, I've changed my mind and decided to keep the file by opening the Recycle Bin, right clicking the file I want to keep and then clicking 'restore'. Today, I sent some files to the Recycle Bin. Here's my problem: I cannot see any of the files I've deleted. Yet, when I do a search using my Windows XP operating system, I can find all the files I've deleted, no problem. Guess what? They're in the Recycle Bin!

I've rebooted my system and even did a couple of system restores but have had no luck. I don't have Window Washer installed so I know that is not the problem. I did delete one program called Regvac which has never given me any problems. I read somewhere that the problem might be a corrupted "info2" file so I attempted to deal with the problem by following the instructions posted. No luck. My system said it could not find the path I was trying to use. After doing a system restore I thought the problem would go away but it hasn't. Can anyone tell me how to correct this problem so I can see the files that are sitting in the Recycle Bin?

Frustrated Beagle

A:Solved: Cannot see files in Recycle Bin!

Augie65 suggested this to another poster so I thought I'd give it a try. I deleted a file I no longer wanted. I right clicked the desktop Recycle Bin icon and emptied it. I then rebooted my system. I deleted a couple more files and then opened the Recycle Bin to see if they were there. Voila! I can see them now.

A word of caution: After I rebooted my system, though the Recycle Bin problem was corrected I did not get back the file I deleted. It's a good thing I used a "test" file. In future if this problem of the "invisible" Recycle Bin files occurs again I know that by doing a basic search I can still retrieve my deleted files until I remedy the situaion.

Have googled and still unable to find a solution; There is one invisible file in the Recycle Bin; Error Deleting File or Folder Cannot remove folder Dc304: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use. how can I delete it from a command prompt?

A:removing files from the Recycle Bin

It's worth trying to use the command line mode to try fixing this.

Open a command session going to Start > Run > and typing cmd in the field and clicking OK. Then type rd /s recycled
and press enter. Close the command screen and create a dummy file on the Desktop and delete it. That will normally correct a corrupt Recycle Bin but it may not work in your case.

You may have to take extreme steps such as using the Recovery Console or a PE CD.

Have you checked the disk for errors?

hmmm... something is strange here...
Up until now, if I would press only the Del key, I got the message asking if I'm sure I want to send the file to the Recycle Bin.
If I would press Shift+Del, the message was asking my premission to delete the file permanently (not sending it to R.B.)
This is the normal behaviour in Windows (XP PRO SP1).

But today, when I'm pressing ONLY the del key (or right-click and "delete") I get the "permanently" message.. I can't move the files to RB, only remove it!!

I checked:
1) Sticky Buttons are off
2) the option in the Recycle Bin to not move files to RB but remove them is NOT checked.
3) The registry value for "NORECYCLEFILES" was not even created (and creating it with value 0 didnt give a thing)
4) No spywares or viruses on the system.

What should I do???
Thanks!!

But not I can't view the files I've deleted in the RB.

Well, The Icon changes to full, and on right-click->empty RB it says I have files there, but when I open it, it says "0 items".

I didnt get the error (in the quote) in the other computer.

I have had basically this same problem: Nothing I delete goes to the Recycle Bin. It remains EMPTY. I checked the settings and it is NOT set to "Remove Files Immediately when Deleted" in Properties. I have run Virus Scans and other scans with: Micro-Trends, Symantec, TDS-3, Ad-Aware, Spybot and AOL tools. No WORD documents or even game programs will go to the Recycle Bin. I sent trouble report to Microsoft Windows, but their support did not help. They had me run: "sfc /scannow". I did that, but it did nothing to resolve problem. My Recycle Bin Icon is fine, however. It is not grayed out or showing any other problems, other than it remains empty. But, my computer will often run slow when online. I have to delete cookies and files from "Internet Options" in Control Panel and then do a "Disk Cleanup". The "Compress Old Files" is usually in 100's to 1000's along with Temporary Internet files. But NOTHING in Recycle Bin. I clean up those and RESTART to use my computer again for awhile. I have a nice computer and TONS of disk space, so I don't understand why this won't resolve. I give below my computer details :

1. Intel Dual Core Processor
2. Windows Xp Prof Sp3 (latest Windows updated)
3. 1 Tb hard disk divided into 4 partitions each using less than 45% of partition space
4. Maximum size of Recycle Bin (percent of each drive) has been tweaked to 100%
5. Normally all my data files are more than 500 MB to 1500 MB

When some files or directories are deleted by mistake and immediately realizing mistake I try to restore them from Recycle Bin, I find not all but only a few available. There is no chance of deleted data being overwritten by newer files.

I need help for proper tweak or software to ensure all files go to Recycle Bin.

Please help.

A:Deleted files do not go to Recycle Bin

you could right click on the recycle bin icon, and go to properties. See how much space is put aside for the recycle bin, if necessary alter it.

I recently posted this in the Windows XP forum and they tried to help but directed me here. When I delete my files they don't go to the recycle bin, and my computer asks me if I'm sure I want to delete them. I've checked to make sure my recycle bin properties are in order and they are. Also, the first time this happened, I noticed an extra my computer icon on the destop, as well as a my network places icon that was never there before after I rebooted my computer. I immediately deleted them, but they didn't show up in the recycle bin either. The bin is just empty, and the empty recycle bin option is greyed out. I've completed the Adaware, SBSD, HJT scans and did a full virus scan with AVG. I did not use the online scan, because last time I tried on this particular computer, it crashed. Please help once more, if it's not too much trouble.

Peace,
Soul

A:Recycle bin empty, where are files?

OK, I think I know what the problem is here.

Is that the only problem you are experiencing now? We'll fix that up now.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Download KillBox (http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/KillBox.exe). Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. For each of the following files below, check the box that says 'Unregister .dll Before Deleting' if it's not grayed out. Copy and paste each of the following into KillBox (hitting the X button for each file - choose NO when it asks if you want to reboot):

c:\recycler\desktop.ini

Make sure to close any open browsers. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Is there an easy way of finding what the total size is of files held in the Recycle Bin? I tried selecting all the files and right clicking on one of the files and select "properties" but nothing happens

In XP and Vista (I think) this shows in the Recycle Bin status line, but for some reason this is not included in W7.

I tried the program RecycleBinEx as mentioned in the forums but it is much more than I really need for this simple size detail.

Would be pleased if anyone has an easy solution.

Turn the Status Bar on.
Mine shows the size of all the files in it.

I am having a problem where my recycle bin is not deleting files and giving me the free memory back in Windows XP SP3. When I delete a file, I go to empty the recycle bin and it "works" in the sense that I get no error message and the bin is empty when I open it. But the icon still says it is full and I have not been given back the memory on the drive the file was on. I can right click and try to empty it again, but I get a message along the lines of "Cannot delete Di2: Access is denied." I've also seen things like Dd1. First of all, Di2 was not the name of the original file, and it's definitely not in use so there should be no conflict. This started happening with my mp3 player (which I also use as a small portable HDD), but now it is also happening with my real HDD.

I tried a solution I found for when your recycle bin becomes supposedly "corrupted," where you open a DOS prompt and type "attrib -s -h recycled" and then "del recycled". For one drive, I had to use "recycled" and on the other I had to use "recycler," - I have no idea why they were different. Anyway, this is supposed to delete a hidden folder I guess where recycled files go before they are emptied from the bin. This did work in emptying the bin and giving me my memory back, but the problem happens again when I delete another file. The bin also seems to fix itself after I do a reboot. Does anyone know what is going on? People have re... Read more

A:My Recycle Bin will not delete files

The Recycle Bin has nothing to do with memory and you will have the same amount no matter how much is in the bin. If you are low on disk space, you should get a larger drive if that little bit is a problem.

Have you run chkdsk /f on that drive to check for disk errors? Have you run anti-malware and anti-virus scans lately?

Noticied that when running windows washer etc it finds files in the recycle bin called DC1.rar - DC5.rar and the th same file prefix but then .avi, .flv etc

These files are typically 100MB or so each - have no idea where they come from or if they are an infection

I can post logs if you think its something that needs investigation

Thanks

I'd just done a reinstall of Vista and the recycle bin items aren't appearing yet it regonises there are items. I've updated to S2 and all the same.

It will let me delete by going to delete all items however it won't let me restore them which is the problem. Topics i've seen with the same problem seemed to have had it fixed by itself in time but never found a solution

If i drag an item to an open recycle bin folder it will appear till i close the thing then it goes away like all the other items when i open recycle bin up again. Selecting to show hidden folders/files doesn't do anything.

Anything i can do? thanks.
