Flash videos (Youtube) stuttering/ playing at half speed

Q: Flash videos (Youtube) stuttering/ playing at half speed

I am experiencing an issue whereby videos refuse to play smoothly in IE (or Chrome for that matter, just on a PC in general).

It's a Lenovo P50s
It has the latest GPU drivers from Nvidia
Latest Flash Player

I cannot figure out why the videos refuse to play properly.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I'm running Windows XP SP3.
Recently, youtube and online streaming videos have not been playing smoothly, even when fully loaded. It's more like a series of pictures with the audio. This was never a problem until a few weeks ago.
DVDs and other downloaded videos seem to be playing fine, it's just watching online. I have uninstalled and reinstalled shockwave player and flash player numerous times but this doesn't help.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks
Michael

Hi,

We would need to see some information about your setup in order for us to be able to attempt diagnosis.
Please download Speccy System Information Tool and save it to somewhere convenient such as your desktop.
Close any programs that may be running including your browser and double click Speccy.exe to run the tool.
Watch out for any offers to install other programs such as google chrome and untick the box(es) if you don't want them.
Speccy will very quickly scan your pc and create a report.
Top left of screen click file and select Publish Snapshot...
Click Yes to proceed.
Copy the URL to your clipboard and paste it into your next reply.

Okay, this might be a little hard to understand but I have only started to see this problem happening over the last few days and don't know why it's doing it. Also, I hope this is the right section of the forum to post this... If not, please move it where it should be.

Basically, whenever I'm watching a video on a website such as YouTube or any other site where a video can be played, every so often while the video is being played (about once every couple of minutes or something) the video picture will pause for a bout half a second. The sound will continue as normal, but the picture freezes for just that tiny period. This can happen more than once in any video, but I've noticed it happening only in the past few days. I've never experienced this before and am wondering what on earth the problem could be.

I'm using an Acer Aspire 9520 Windows Vista 32-bit laptop.

If you need any other information please ask.

Many thanks if you can help with this weird problem I'm having.

A:Youtube (etc) videos pause for half a second

Streaming video such as Youtube requires a continuous high speed internet connection all the way through every server en route.

Any bandwidth constraints on the internet servers or your PC that compromise the speed will give such effects.

P.S I Also tried a reformatt a few weeks ago, and it didnt solve the problem :/

A:Urgent : System uses 50% or more when playing Videos, Flash Videos, Flash Games etc

Firstly, I would think it is fine that your CPU usage goes to 50% when playing videos... it has to use some CPU power to do this. Now the lagging is another story. First off I would make sure that everything is being properly cooled. If you have not done so in a while, clean out the inside of the PC, blowing off any dust from the heatsink, graphics card, power supply etc. Also what sort of power supply do you have? I want to confirm it's adequate for the system. That brings up the question, when did this start happening and was anything hardware changed around that time?

Hi guys,
I have just re-formatted my windows7 for the second time in about a week. everything is working as intended with exception to online flash videos. Youtube videos are functioning, because they are using HTML5 i suspect.
An interesting note: upon reformat and installing of my mobo drivers, i installed Avast AV and then went to animefreak.tv to check the functionality of my flash player. I was able to watch the latest episodes of Naruto Shippuden and then i got back to installing security addons for my Firefox browser. After doing this, my flash player is not opening videos on that same website i just mentioned, nor on primewire.ag (which i used without problems up until my re-format about a week ago).
I have not installed any WindowsUpdates, as right now i'm not sure that i won't re-format again to try this all over to eliminate this problem.
I am playing Star Trek Online right now, it is operating just fine, all other functions of my OS seem to be OK, just this flash video issue is all the problem that i can detect at the moment. I use my PC for browsing the web, investigating government intrusion into personal rights mainly, and also for recreation like video games and the aforementioned movie and anime viewing..
I suspect that my security addons to Firefox might be getting in the way of my flash video viewing.. I currently have 'play DRM content' disabled as snooping and tracking are my mortal enemies online..

Hello All

I have an HP Pavilion p7-1254 (at least started as that, had some stuff upgraded, explained below), AMD A6-3620 2.2Ghz Quad Core with AAHD2-HL board; save you the time of looking it up if needed. What happens is the system with will just freeze. Occasionally the audio that was playing with stutter infinitely like a skipping CD. Rarely I notice the system will stutter once or twice before totally freezing, happens in a couple seconds. But mostly, it just stops. When it freezes, the only option is to hard reboot.

I have had this problem for quite some time, probably about a year or two. At first I really didn't notice any consistency in the crashes, seems totally random. Some times it would freeze while browsing any random page, be it videos, forums, ad ridden or ad free. Any browser as well; Chrome, Firefox, IE. It also crashes when playing some games although not other games that have higher requirements; e.g. Guaranteed to crash, probably within 10 mins, if I play '8-bit Boy' on Steam (about as low res as implied) but I can go on 4 and 5 hour binges on Elder Scrolls Online or Skyrim with no crashes. I have recently noticed that YouTube videos (any video) is a guaranteed crash within a 20-30 seconds.

I have tried with IE8, IE9 beta and Chrome with same results. Sometimes I can play videos on the fly with YouTube. Sometimes I need to let the video buffer for a long time.

I have 30/5 down/up line and live about 800 meters from the central. I can not say I experience any lag for video games when I play. I have no torrent activity or windows update pending. I also spoke with my ISP, they do not set any limit on the YouTube site.

I'm starting to wonder if the problem can be directed to YouTube itself?
Does anyone else notice the same problem?

My connection should be more than fast enough to stream 1080p on the fly.

In advance,
thank you for your time!

A:Various speed on buffering videos at YouTube

There are many factors, including how well your computer can handle it. Just because you have a large bandwidth doesn't mean that you computer can actually use it. Next time open your Hardware Monitor and check to see what the real download rate is, and what % of the network is being utilized.

Install latest Adobe Flash for the non-IE browser you are using (if so).

For Firefox or Opera - Download Flash Player 12.0.0.54 Beta (Non-IE) - FileHippo.com
For Firefox or Opera - Download Flash Player 11.3.300.257 (Non-IE) 64-bit - FileHippo.com

If you already did,

Clear the LSOs:

Adobe - Flash Player : Settings Manager - Website Storage Settings panel

If you are trying to use IE, try a Windows Update to install Flash or update it.

Have you tried in a different browser?

Trying in a different browser will help us determine whether it is a problem/setting in IE, or if it is a broader issue with your computer/OS.

The other thing I would try is to reset IE.

In IE go to Tools -> Internet Options.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Click Reset button.
Restart IE.

Let us know what you find.

I have strange problem with playing online videos.

When i play video on youtube in minimum screen or middlesized one videos are normal, but when i play it in fullscreen video is oversaturated (too much contrast and light). The same happens at ANY video online (not just youtube).

It also happens when i play any video with windows media player at any size, but when i play movies with other players (like mpc,VLC player etc) its fine. I think some settings for online playing and media player are screwed up

Look at this picture to see about what im talking:

http://imgur.com/wDSSgwK

A:Help with contrast when playing videos on youtube or wmp?

No I don't think so, there are no such settings, also contrast has nothing to do with your issue, looking at your sample, it seems like in full screen, the number of colors supported is lower so you are getting the next best thing. Check to see that you have the latest video drivers installed, also if you are using either the NVidia or the ATI center, you may see if there is something you can tweak there. But the monitor itself could be the issue, so see if you can borrow a monitor from a friend and reproduce the problem.

Hi Duncanj,

Welcome to the 8forums.

I recommend to remove Tweakbit software, it is quite poorly written and its functionality could cause problems due to the poor coding.

Please uninstall everything of AMD graphics using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from your manufacturer. Use custom/advanced installation to ONLY install the drivers.

So yeah, I have this problem where every time I start to play a YouTube video, my screen will flicker a little then go black, permanently. I then have to force a power off to get Windows working again.

I can't figure out if it is Windows, FireFox, the Nvidia driver or the Flash plugin that's causing the problem.

A few times when the screen flickers it does come back on, with a balloon message saying the Nvidia driver has crashed and restarted, which would obviously point to the drivers. But only today I updated to the newest version (266.58) but still the problem occurs.

I removed the video driver, FireFox and Flash. Reinstalled all drivers cleanly, but I'm still having all the same problems. I can't for the life of me work it out.

And this only happens on YouTube. Any other video streaming sites play absolutely fine, but YouTube? Nope.

Can anyone out there give a little help to this problem?

Oh, it's Windows 7 64-bit, on a Dell XPS M1730 with Nvidia GeForce 8700m GT

Hello! for the past few weeks the youtube videos aren't playing smoothly. I tried playing the same video in dailymotion (both at 720pHD) and it plays quite smoothly. The videos at youtube start off well, but after few seconds it lags and then it plays well.. this goes on and on (around 10 times in a video of 3 mins). I tried to lower the quality to 480p, but the problem still exists.
Also, tried disabling the extensions but it still the same! Help please.. Thanks in advance!

It's really annoying because it won't play the video as well when clicking the play button, I use google chrome but when i decided to test if it affected other browsers I clicked on firefox and it also had the same problem??? I've updated adobe flash player and nothing. This must be a file on my computer or is it with my browsers?? Please Help.

Thanks

Hello Bruno1574,

When I click on the image link you have provided, it does not appear to work, can you verify this for me please? Thank you.

If this issue was caused by a Windows Update, you could use System Restore and restore to a point before you installed the update. After this, you could install one update at a time, to see what update affects the videos (restarting your system between update installs). This is probably the best approach to take initially, to figure out if a particular update caused the issue.

You probably know, but in case you are unsure, you can run System Restore by:
> Click on the Start globe/button.
> Type System Restore and enter.

If you have restore points on your system, you should be able to select one, by date. If this problem started on your post date (13/December/2013), then pick one before that.

This will not affect any of your personal files (documents, pictures, etc.).

hi,

had lots of video freezes watching youtube. have 20GB download speed. so uninstalled flash and now videos play well so far.

according to script blocker flash is not working on other pages and items.

so why do the vids play without flash? if I install the latest flash version wonder will the video freezes come back. grrr :-)

A:disable flash and watch youtube videos??

They play without flash as it will use the HTML5 protocol if flash is not available. This is built into modern browsers so no plug in is required. This can often lead to a smoother experience. The latest version of flash may solve it but it may not. Flash is on its way out anyway so many sites are converting to HTML5.

I'll load a YouTube video, select a random spot further ahead in it, and then it'll freeze, the loading icon will show up, and then Opera stops responding, and I have no other choice than to close it.

On some occasions it'll do the aforementioned things, except if I wait, it'll go back to normal and keep playing the video.

I've updated Flash, Java, and Opera's up to date as well.

What else is there?

Cheers.

This is a really annoying problem.
It nearly happens to all youtube videos i play.
The title is self explanatory, the videos keep on playing even though i stopped the video. I have tried re-installing firefox and flash, but with no good results.

Any ideas?

A:Youtube videos keep on playing even when i stop the video

Are you sure those videos run in Flash? Right click on a video and see if it displays Flash settings or HTML5 settings.

As far as my personal experience goes, whenever I install a new browser, or just clear my cache and cookies, then sign in to YouTube again, it seems to enable the HTML5 player by deafult, even though I don't opt in for the experiment. You can go to YouTube HTML5 page. and at the bottom of the page click "Join HTML5 trial" then "Leave the HTML5 trial"; that should fix some videos (with no ads) automatically playing in an HTML5 player.

As far as the Flash player goes, I'm not sure whether this is a Flash issue or something else on YouTube's part because for the last couple of days, I have a different issue where the progress bar doesn't show me how much of the video it has loaded (the gray meter that fills below the red progress indicator) though the video plays fine.

I am recently facing problems in streaming Youtube videos
when I try to watch a video on Youtube,it takes a lot of time to start playing and it buffers for two to three minutes or so
.I have a 2mbps cable connection directly connected to the pc from modem via Ethernet Cable.
I did not experience this problem before i reformatted my pc two days ago.
I have searched many forums to find a solution to this problem but I couldn't find a solution.
I have tried removing Adobe Flash Player and reinstalling the newest version but still it does not work.
I have tried Int Explorer,Firefox,Opera,Safari,Chrome....but all show the same problem.

Kindly Sirs please help me...any help will be greatly appreciated.

A:Videos take a lot of time to start playing on Youtube

It does sound like a isp problem unless your connection is being shared.
Is it just YT that is giving you grief or other sites ?
Try turning off the modem for a minute or 2 and see if that works.

You might want to consider contacting your isp to see if there are any local problems.

And btw, welcome to TSG, help yourself to the wealth of knowledge available here.

I've seen a lot of ways to make YouTube videos auto play, but no one else seems to want to prevent them from playing unless I click on them but me. I have limited bandwidth, so I'd rather not play videos unless I specifically choose to. I used to have an option to "stop download" when I right clicked, but for some reason on these that automatically start up, that option isn't there anymore.

What's the trick to keeping videos on blogs and other such websites from playing automatically?

Thanks!

Hello anyone who gets this message!

I was recently trying to watch a video and it would stay on 1% buffer. I left it at this and watched a youtube video in the mean time perfectly, then suddenly the other video started fully buffered. I tested many times and basically all videos except youtube videos must load completely after hitting the 'play' button before actually starting where as youtube downloads and plays simultaneously

Thanks guys!

I recently had issues with Firefox. Youtube would not play any video. Or basically any video on any website. So after updating flash and still having the same problem. I went directly to the main source of my woes.

Firefox help. They have a great tip section in help and what they had me do, to was to uninstall flash 13 to an earlier version of flash. And they provided a link to it as well.

That did the trick. Adobe is obviously updating versions without testing them thoroughly.

So for anyone having issues with playing Youtube videos, try this first. I also tried doing a System Restore, but that also saves the newest version of Flash, so it was pointless. You dont always need to update flash. It may give you more grief then its worth
