T430s trackpoint issue

Q: T430s trackpoint issue

Hi, I encounter the following issues with my Thinkpad T430s:- sometimes the mouse pointer starts moving on its on, always towards the same direction and always at the same speed. Rebooting temporarily resolves the issue until it occurs again. Reducing the sensitivity in the driver software does not have any impact. Pressing the trackpoint and letting go does nothing to stop it. - the left mouse button acts like a weird combination of a left click + some function that brings up context menus, if available (e.g. on desktop). This happens using the trackpoint, touchpad and sometimes even when using an external mouse. - Right mouse button does not function at all. No matter what function is assigned to it in the driver software, it does not work. External mouse works. All this ONLY happens if the trackpoint is ENABLED in BIOS. If I disabled the trackpoint in the BIOS, touchpad and all mouse buttons work fine. I tried Windows 10 and Windows 7. The problems occur under both operating systems using different driver software. Therefore, I do believe this to be a hardware issue. Anyone has experienced this issues and knows a good way to fix it? Thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Ok, How do I get this T430s to recognise ONLY the nVidia graphics? I have it set to nVidia only in the BIOS, However, this thing INSISTS on using the pathetic HD4000 graphics when trying to play a game. This was easy to do for the T420. Why wont this work for the T430s? What I've done:Install ONLY the nVidia graphics drivers.... I still wants to use the "generic" VGA driver for everything. It forces me to use the nVidia panel to list games for use with the nVidia graphics. This doesn't always work. Is there a fix for this nightmare?

Recently I have been gifted with a T430S Thinkpad on which I made a fresh installation of Windows 7 Home. From time to time the mouse has a strange behavior : it operates fine except to scroll in dropdown lists. I have to use the keybord to do that an select an item. When it happens the touch pad doesn't work anymore. Switching  with an other mouse doesn't solve the problem. I have to stop and restart the laptop to recover the normal behavior of the mouse. Installing last drivers from Lenovo download center had no effect. It seems other users encountered a similar issue. Some of them got rid of it after a BIOS upgrade. Infortunately  I didn't find any BIOS to download. The only files avalaibable are just utilities to install a new BIOS. Mine is 2.05 dated 12/11/2012. So my question is where to get a more recent BIOS and do you think an update will fix the issue. Thanking you in advance

As this is my first post,  Hello all! I'm a longtime Thinkpad user, appreciating my previous T60 and T400 for their repairability and durability.  I've just bought a used thinkpad t430s, and I bought a battery for it as it didn't come with one. My issue is, the battery worked fine the first couple times I used it, but now it drains instantly if I unplug from the wall. After I restart the machine, the battery says 0% (charging), and after a short while (10+ minutes) returns to claiming fully charged (100%). So far, I have updated the bios, installed the lenovo power management software, installed the lenovo power management driver, tried removing the microsoft acpi driver without the battery in, then turning off and trying to start on battery  (no luck turns off immediately as well, critical low battery error). I also did this thing someone recommended for battery trouble where you shut down the computer and remove the power sources, then hold down the power button for a minute. The battery health is good, it has had three charge cycles, and this number isn't going up with my little drop downs to 0% and back up to 100% whenever I unplug the machine. I would like help in figuring out if this is a problem with the battery, hardware, or software of the computer. I am running windows 7 pro 64 SP1. i7-3520M @2.9ghz. Thanks in advance!  Ryan

A:t430s battery charge issue

Hi and welcome, moreryanIs the battery Lenovo genuine, has Lenovo FRU p/n?Have you get it from the Lenovo related store?Could you make a snapshot of the battery surface labels with quality enough to recognize labels, symbols? As you can't publish images here, in the post yet, provide an external link. Also, as your OS is win7 and I hope Lenovo Power Manager application is installed, what are the values of the second half of the battery parameters (manufacturer name and followed) PM shows in the Battery tab? Make a snapshot as well.Answers and images are needed to understand whether the battery is faked since the battery for T430 should have HW authentication.

I've had my t430s for almost a year now and have been basically happy with it/no issues thus far. However, this morning I went to boot it up and it's completely unresponsive - no lights when plugged into A/C, no fan whir, nothing.  I've already tried the 30 sec power drain trick, verified the charger works, used an alternate lenovo charger(from a t430),removed the battery, both RAM cards, SSD, CMOS and attempted to identify the issue using the various steps recommended in the user guide, but to no avail.I suspect this to be a MB issue or possibly power socket related.  Alas the laptops factory warranty expired in June as it was purchased secondhand(and registered by me after purchase).  Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

A:T430s won't power on - possible motherboard issue?

Well, I have replaced quite a few power jacks on T420s/T430s machines, but if that were the problem, you would have gotten low-battery warnings ahead of time.  When you disconnected the CMOS battery, did you let it sit a few seconds before plugging it back in?  I always let it sit for 5 seconds and then I press the power button 2 or 3 times before putting it back.  This drains all the capacitors.  (I assume you know that the main battery also needs to be out and the machine unplugged.)

I have  bought Lenovo T430s laptop recently. The main problem is that it came win Ubuntu OS. I formated all the partition data and tried to install Windows 7. There was a "A required CD/DVD drive driver is missing" issue, where a windows prompts asking me to point the directory where to load that driver. It's on that step, where I should select where to install the drive, so I tought it was the HDD drivers. I tried with UEFI/Legacy tricks such as forcing my BIOS to use UEFI only or LEGACY only. I also tried to change the HDD options from AHCI to Compatability and many variations. Well at first time, i tried with putting the chipset drivers to usb disk and point the driver then uncheck the "Hide drivers that are not compatible with my computer" and tried to force it use my drivers. Tried with different drivers and every time I got stuck to the same problem. Then I tried with Windows 8 and Windows 10, It just installed without problem. Later I had issue with my Cooling Fan. It stoped working, So i returned my laptop to the shop, where I bought the laptop. They said that they sent it to a service and the service changed the HDD and the motherboard. The HDD was Seagate 320GB, now it is HITACHI 320GB. The motherboard is changed, because previous motherboard had Compatibility options, that was suited for windows 8, now it's gone (may be old BIOS chip/software or newer, I dont' know, my BIOS version is 2.7). So after I got my laptop back (repaired) I got it with new H... A:T430s Windows 7 Installation Issue

Hi,

You need to add the USB 3.0 drivers to the WIndows 7 installation media.  There are several threads on this topic here on the forums.  It can be done manually (a real pain...) or with one of several OEM tools.

Here's the Intel one:  https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25476/Windows-7-USB-3-0-Creator-Utility

You may also need to make the flash drive UEFI-bootable if that's you preferred installation mode.  That involves some file manipulation, but not a complete rebuild of the media.

So the Internet on my T430s recently stopped working, and every time I try to troubleshoot I'm told to turn on wireless capability using my wireless switch, which is definitely in the on position. (I've even tried turning it to the off position just in case I'm really stupid and have them mixed up, but no Internet there either.) What I've done so far: 1) Fn+F5 gives me the message "The hardware wireless radio switch must be in the on position to use the wireless radios," which is unhelpful since it's in the on position. 2) Going into Device Manager and checking Network Adapters tells me that I have 4 adapters, and the Properties menu for all 4 says that "This device is working properly." I'm not sure which one is being used for my main connection, but all the ones listed say they're working. 3) I did some Googling and found some random sources that said you could use BIOS to override the hardware switch and turn wireless on. Wasn't able to find anything, so I'm wondering whether that doesn't apply for the T430s. Not super familiar with BIOS so I might be using it totally wrong. 4) I opened the computer up to take a look at the wireless radio switch. Didn't see anything clearly wrong with it, but I doubt I'd be able to detect a visible problem even if one were present.  So yeah, I'd appreciate if someone could help me with the issue. I'd prefer to solve it on the software side of things, so if someone could tell me a way to override the hardw... Read more

A few days ago I tried to boot my T430s but windows boot manager showed me error 0xc00000e9 before I could even reach the Windows 10 screen. I then went into Lenovo diagnostics and ran a quick test where the results showed that everything passed except Smart status Smart short self testDrive self testRandom seek testFunnel seek testTargeted read test Google seems to suggest that this is hard drive / hard disk drive issue - I don't really know how to fix this. I'm thinking of downloading Windows 10 setup onto a USB or CD and then trying to see if I get past the boot screen. From the information given, do you think my data has been lost or is this the kind of error where data can be retrieved? I never backed up important documents, it's safe to say I have learned my lesson. I appreciate any advice RegardsSM

I think most users know that TrackPoint has an auto-correction mechanism to avoid permanent physical tilt. That is, when TrackPoint is pushed towards a direction with constant force for several seconds, that direction will be corrected as "zero-point". Therefore you'll observe a counter-movement when releasing TrackPoint. What I want to mention is that, back on X220, if you press middle-button when pushing TrackPoint, the above mechanism will never be triggered regardless of how long or how hard you push. This is a correct and thoughtful design, because when middle-button is pressed, such tilt should be user-generated rather than permanent physical. However, on X1 Carbon (3rd gen), the auto-correction mechanism will be triggered even when middle-button is pressed. This is NOT a correct behaviour.I guess such behaviour is coded in Synaptics driver.  If so, please kindly contact them to correct this behaviour. Thanks.

Hi, I've been having some TrackPoint issue with my T430u for some time after upgrading to windows 10. The main symptoms are listed below: 1. TrackPoint not responding after waking up from sleep.2. TrackPoint sometimes suddenly not working during using.3. The middle button sometimes just frozen and cannot be used to scroll the page. Methods I have tried:1. Uninstall / Reinstall the driver provided by lenovo (19.0.12.61), windows auto-update (19.3.4.22)2. I also tried to use the driver that is originally for T430s and T430But NONE of those methods work. The trackpoint still works / does not work unpredictably.  Anyone has the similar problem and any solutions? Many thanks

Hello, I have a thinkpad X240. The Trackpoint button (nipple) has never worked since I've had it. The computer used to have Windows 8.1, however now it has been upgraded to Windows 10. The trackpoint button still did not work after the upgrade. I have tried updating the BIOS to the latest version, with still no change. The keyboard was recently replaced by a Lenovo tech as some keys stopped working properly, which means that the trackpoint button was replaced too. However, it still does not work. I have tried completely removing and re-installing the Synaptics driver from the lenovo website. The Trackpoint button shows as "Enabled" in the BIOS. Below is a screenshot of the "Thinkpad" tab in the mouse section of the control panel. I am guessing that there is supposed to be another option under the "Pointing options" dropdown menu which allows the Trackpoint button to be enabled.  If anybody has any suggestions as to how I can get it working, that would be appreciated.  Thank you

Hi folks!I'm using my t430s in several areas, such as my parents house, or even at home, workplace, coffe shops, etc.... Well, at my parents house, i'm using a type 4336 docking station, with an old sharp FHD external tv hooked to the vga output.. I have updated the windows lately, but after it the settings gone insane, and when i connect the laptop to the 4336 it sends the screen to the external, and need to change it back to laptop lcd by pressing the mentioned keys before. It is pretty frustrating, and i don't find the setting, which i was able to find before the update. It did the same way after the previoius update too.can somebody please help?I'm soo dissapointed in the new windows stuff by now. I used win 7 x64 for a looooong time, but.... the system came with win8 so its free os for me, and deceided to use it instead of 7. It was a mistake i know... I have a very annoying problem with my T460p: When suspending the laptop and turning it on again, the trackpad and touchpad devices stop working entirely (no response at all). The problem cannot be fixed by rebooting the machine and can only be resolved by completely powering down the laptop, removing the battery and restarting it afterwards. Symptoms: * During  boot, a message "PS/2 mouse not detected" shows up.* The Windows device manager shows the synaptics touchpad as not functioning.* The problem occurs both under Windows and Linux (Ubuntu 16.04) I am running the latest BIOS version and have updated all drivers on the machine. I have also checked all BIOS settings. Lenovo already replaced the laptop twice, but the problem persists, hence I conclude that it's either a problem in all of the synaptics components or related to something else. I have found many similar bug reports in this forum and elsewhere, not only for the T460p but also other models like the T440 series, hence this is not an isolated case. Please bring this problem to the attention of the support staff, as this is something that is completely unacceptable for a laptop in this price range (especially since everything else is working perfectly). The laptop has the following configuration btw: * i7 6600HQ processor* 20 GB Ram (4 GB on-board + 16 GB extra RAM)* 2 TB HDD + 512 GB SSD via M.2 slot* Otherwise standard configuration Thanks for your help!

Dear all, I'm having trouble with both my touchpad&trackpoint not working properly. I am not sure whether there's something to do about my hardware or not, but all things started to mess up. I have been experiencing the issue that sometimes my touchpad and trackpoint didn't work. At first I solved it through disabling driver signature enforcement, but later on both the touchpad and trackpoint lost its function after I hibernate/sleep. I have to restart the system and select that advanced boot option again to use them. I don't know the exact time the issue started to deepen, but, I'm guessing that it's about the touchpad firmware update. I installed it someday and after rebooting the program told me that the attempt to update is failed. And after that the touchpad&trackpoint became completely unusable. The Trackpad is unusable on my Thinkpad Yoga 260. When I try to use it it doesn't respond most of the time. Strangly though when I use the very tip of my finger it does work. To me that sounds like the palm rejection is too harsh. Also the scrolling gesture doesn't work if I place my fingers vertically. It does work if I place them horizontally). The Trackpad is from Elantech. I tried changing the driver settings, re-installing it and nothing helped. The problem with the Trackpoint is that when I try to scroll vertically using the middle button the scrolling symbol often first shows up horizontally and I need to press the trackpoint hard to get it to scroll. This all on Windows 10. I am thinking that this is all a driver issue because I tried out Ubuntu and there it works without problems also uninstalling the driver gets the Touchpad to work but the gestures don't work then. But if this is a driver issue shouldn't everyone have this problem?

Hi Nordic74,Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.As I understand that you have query regarding which to buy G50-80 or T430s
Even mine preference will be T430s as it is a business class segment with better battery backup, screen resolution & lot other options. In G50-80 there is an option of AMD discrete Graphics and 15.6" screen but resolution is 1366 x 768 only.
T430s has security option aswell & lot of option for upgrade which is missing in G50-80 IMO.

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Hello, I have replaced screen on my T430s (used from T420s, because they are similar), before fully assembling (all the bottom screws), I tried to boot on battery and everything worked fine. After I finished assembling it, I couldn?t start my computer on battery, only with AC adapter. Battery is genuine (Panasonic came with T430s), I can charge or discharge it, tried battery gauge reset, tried to reset bios (take out CMOS battery), updated BIOS, nothing helps, by the way works with my T420s just fine (tried T420s battery on T430s same, nothing). Removing AC adapter causes laptop to shut off immediately.Am I missing something or it is a fault in mainboard?   Thanks in advance for any suggestions

A:T430s - Won't Start

It is hard to be sure without seeing it, but I think it is most likely the main (7-amp??) fuse by the battery connector, which is similar to the fuse for AC input.  The main battery fuse is separate from the smaller charging fuse.

Hi.

I just got a Lenovo ThinkPad T430s refurbished for about $350 as good as new with activated Windows 10 Pro and 8GB RAM (which Im going to upgrade to 16GB). At home I usually use my Lenovo H50-55 Desktop displayed on my 47" Panasonic 3D TV, and I want to have the same option with my ThinkPad just in case my Desktop should be down for any odd reason. But the VGA only output on the T430s doesnt transelate to HDMI digital just through a cable Ive bought. No signal on the TV. Ive read a little bit about VGA to HDMI conversions and ususally the people having issues with this have a transformer between the two and still they get no signal. Do I need a transformer, and if so; what kind, or is it just to do with lack of right driver?

Greetings from Norway

Hi Kitty405, I know Lenovo Vantage has a setting to switch FN and left-Ctrl.you can enable this setting to change the function of left-Ctrl to Fn.  if this, the side effect is you will lose left-Ctrl , due to your Fn key is damaged. Hope this iformation is helpful for you.

I hope this isn't a dupe thread.  I tried searching and couldn't find the info. I just purchased a used T430s that came with Windows 8, but at some point along the way someone installed Windows 10.  The first thing I want to do is make sure that this is a legit/verified Windows 10, and secondly how do I download drivers from Lenovo for Windows 10.   When I go to the product page, it doesn't give me the option for Windows 10.  It shows Vista through 8, but not 10. Any help is greatly appreciated. GBA

I have a T430S which has a licence sticker under the battery for Windows 7 Pro OA for Lenovo. The OS that is installed on the machine is 32 bit, however I would like to swap to 64 bit. I'd rather not buy recovery media to do this, so I'm wondering if the licence code will work for just a bog basic Windows 7 64 bit ISO downloaded from rando-website?

I have a T430s with 8 Gig Ram installed moved to the SSD and reinstalled from scratch.  Now I noticed it does not see more than 3.3 Gig or Ram.   What do I need to do. Thanks

A:T430s Does not recognize more that 3.3 Gig of my 8...

You likely have a 32-bit OS installed, which has a hard limit of about 3.9GB. In your case, it is likely using some for the video card, which is why you see 3.3GB. Can you confirm what OS is installed on the PC?

Does anyone have Fn-F6 and/or "the black key" that do anything on a T430S running W10?  All the other keys work as expected, and I did load the hot key driver.  Just those two do nothing.

Hi all!A new issue has been irritating me for a past few days. My ThinkPad T430s doesn't go to sleep when press fn + F4. Rather, the screen just blacks out but wakes up again to where it was left when I move the mouse. Even clicking Sleep through Start Menu does the same. Any solutions please?!

Just got used T430s without HDD and decided to go with SSD.SSD model is BiWin C6370 500Gb. Windows is installed without any issues but aftr reboot it shows "a disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart". HDD from E420s in this laptop works fine same as this SSD works in E420s with no problem. Any ideas what it could be? I tried clean installation of Windows 7 and 10. From Flash drive and CD. Same result. SSD passed all tests, even T420s internal storage test.

Hi,

I left my laptop sitting open and running for a few seconds while I ran outside for something and I came back and the screen was black. It wasn't asleep, it was just black and still running. I restarted and it won't do a normal boot. When you first turn it on the "Press Enter to Interrupt Normal Startup" screen will come up, and if you do so or not, it'll take you to a menu with all of these options. I have no idea what's going on, can someone please help. It's a ThinkPad T430s

Hello Everyone, Hoping I can get some help from you all as I am not the most tech savvy.  I purchased a SanDisk 256GB SSD and the laptop has been wiped so now I am trying to install Windows 10 OS via USB. On boot mode it recognizes the USB as an option but as soon as I select I just get a flash then a lit black screen. Saw on a few other posts suggestions to change Secure boot settings on the BIOS menu. I disabled "secure boot" as well as "Legacy Only" for the UEFI/Legacy boot option and changed boot mode from "quick" to "Diagnostics". Any other suggestions as to what I may need to do to fix? Thanks all in advance!Best,Karol

Heard tons of horror stories about the HD+ screen. Is it not as good as IPS bad or just totally unusable bad?

A:How bad is T430s/T420s's screen?

obviously it is not good as the IPS, but it is actually quite usable for office based apps. If you are watching move then you need to be within 45 degrees angle to get the accurate colour. If you are mainly using it for movies and photoshop touchup, then this screen is really not for you.
