I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Speedcom+ Broadband Router (RT514AD), connected to a Motorola cable modem and 2 computers (each running Win98SE). Everything works fine for about 1 hour, then my internet connection is lost, and I have to press the reset button on the router, which then sorts it out (but only until the next hour).

I've looked for a firmware upgrade, but can't find find technical support for this product anywhere (it was the cheapest after all!). Is there anything I can do to make the connection more stable?

I have had a Belkin F5D7230-4 router and AT&T Westell modem modelE90-610030-06 for at least 6 years now and occasionally, (not always) experience frequent internet disconnects. I have a desktop Windows XP hardwired, netTalk Duo hardwired, laptop Windows 7, another laptop Windows 8.1, and a Nintendo 3DS that are used to connect wirelessly. Does anyone know of a specific configuration I should use?

A:Belkin router internet disconnects

Does anyone know of a specific configuration I should use?Click to expand...

You should use configurations that will help you troubleshoot to determine where/why the disconnects (unless, of course, you already know).

If you have no clue, observe the LEDs on the Westell modem/router and on the Belkin router to see what they tell you. Try a device connected directly to the Westell to see if that also frequently loses internet access.

Do the disconnects occur for all devices at the same time? Or is the problem with just one device? When internet access is lost is connection with the router maintained?

If you want a guess, at least part of the problem is likely the Belkin. Six years of service from that particular model is outstanding and you should not feel bad about replacing it,.

Hi all
I have a problem with my router

Previously when i first got the router both client computers that was online both had windows 98, I connected the router, installed the router wizard on the cd and boom both computers where working fine online.

I then recently change my operating system to windws 2000 NT technology, the other client has remained with windows 98, I have reset my router settings and tried to re-install the router settings via the cd. Both computers work with the internet for about a couple of minutes then all of a sudden our IE browsers stop working and we cannot access the internet anymore unless we restart our computers and re-power the modem and router. things like yahoo messenger seem to carry on working on the machines.

We use a cable connection for our internet, our router is just a standard broudband router made by Peak ( I believe)

Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix our problem

Thank you.

Hi, so I am usually great with computers but bad when it comes to networking. So i had a problem with my router before in which it disconnected every 2 hours but I fixed it by changing the DHCP lease time. A few days ago, I have started using an ethernet connection via the router to my pc and also have migrated my Windows 10 OS to another hard drive. I now have this issue again with my router and I cant pinpoint exactly why this is.

I have currently tried: Creating a static IP, changing the lease time again and resetting my router.

Thank you for any assistance in advance!

Puzzling problem, wondered if anyone could help.

I have a wireless router and am connecting 2 phones (wifi) and 1 PC (ethernet).

The PC is running Windows 8 and has two User Accounts (I'll call them "Business" and "Personal").

Since setting up the router, the phones have connected over wifi without problem. If I log onto the "Personal" user account on my PC, it connects over ethernet, and the phones still work with wifi.

However, if I log my PC onto my "Business" user account, the PC says it has connected to the Home Hub via the ethernet cable, but there is no internet connection. It also causes the internet connection on the phones to drop (sometimes the wifi goes down completely, sometimes it says it's connected to wifi, but there is no internet). I don't think it's an ethernet problem either, as I connected my PC wirelessly instead of with the cable, and the same thing happens.

The PC only ever does this on the "Business" user account, the "Personal" account works fine (I'm using that now). Looked everywhere to find a solution, I assume it's something in the settings, rather than a router issue. Can't find the answer anywhere.

Please can anyone help?

A:User account disconnects from router and disables internet

Is this a computer from your work, or personal computer? If for work. Are you required to sign in with a Domain login? Also what is the manufacturer & model of your router? Does it do this, when you connect the computer with an Ethernet cable, directly to the router?

OK I have a local isp providing wireless internet service, and seeing as that the only other option I have is 56k dialup, I'm stuck with it. I have hardwired my PC to my router and it works great with surfing the web and whatnot, but my problems occur when I'm gaming.

-I will get lag spikes (expected) playing online games
-Frequently, yet randomly, I will be disconnected from the game completely, and the case seems to be a momentary lapse of connectivity.
-During these periods, web pages won't load and I can't interact in the game, basically a big lag spike. The game will boot me back to the menu, and shortly after (seconds after being booted usually, rarely minutes), I can log back in again.
Once again, I'm using a wireless router to connect to my wireless internet service, and these random lag spikes kick me off of games or temporarily stop downloads. When something requires a streaming connection, it's a huge hindrance to me.

Sorry if I'm not very computer literate, but I am very new to this connection and tech talk in general, so feel free to hold my hand if you have any advice.

Hi ...

I have a Linksys wirleess broadband router w/speedbooster, model: WRT54GS V.6

Anyway... i've had multiple networks in my home thru the years... usually with minimal issues. But for the past year or so... both with this router and my last, I find that it disconnects from the internet daily, and every morning I have to reset the router.
I recently reconfigured the router, but same results.

just an fyi.... my network is secured, and has two computers wired and one wireless

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2 computers connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 router which is connected to a Verizon Westell DSL/Cable modem. From time to time the Ethernet link between the modem and the router spontaneously disconnects. I can reconnect the link by going to the setup menu on the router with a browser @
Sometimes I have to do an ipconfig/release and renew to fix the link. Sometimes I have to power cycle the PC and the modem and the router.
Currently this disconnect problem has gotten much worse. It occurs about every 15-20 minutes while I'm connected to the net. It also occurs when either computer is booted or turned off (I see the link light on both the modem and the router flash red for a moment).
The problem never happens if only one PC is connected to the router. Do you think I need a new router?

Hello, I have a G+ MIMO router. The router works fine but it keeps on disconnecting when I'm trying to download something, or watch videos online, or connect my PS3 to it. Playing games on PSN is impossible and I play a lot! I used to have a linksys router and it worked fine with my PS3. But I recently moved in with my sister but she's got G+ MIMO router and I've had nothing but problems with it. The PS3 connects to the internet wirelessly but keeps on disconnected after a while. And I can't connect it directly because the router is upstairs and PS3 is downstairs. I can't update PSN or download game updates! Or download big files unless I connect it directly with the modem.

I'm from England, I've got Virgin media broadband cable connection. I'm using dynamic connection type, wireless. Haven't used an encryptions yet. And I'm using XP home SP2.

I have been experiencing intermittent disconnects from the internet which as far as I can tell started when I installed an online game (Guild Wars 2). I have done quite a few things to try and get this resolved myself but its proving to be quite a hardy problem so I thought id post it here. First off a few details:

ISP: Sky Broadband Unlimited
Router Brand: Sagemcom
Router Model: [email protected]
Operating System: All networked computers are on Windows 7
Network Effected: Both Wired and Wireless Simultaneously
Router Status: Internet light remains solid green and I am able to access my router while disconnected.
Frequency of Disconnects: 1-2 times an evening
The internet gets disconnected for all computers connected to the network however the router internet light remains green. The problem occurs more in peak internet usage times. Before this issue I have previously never had this problem and no other hardware/software changes were made. I also get disconnected when no programs are being run on my machine and when the wireless has been disabled.

I am currently plugged into the test phone socket, have swapped out the micro filter 4 times, replaced the modem with a brand new one, allocated static IP's to all devices in the network, turned off IPV6, changed settings on my network card and then back again and scanned my computer for viruses and malware using AVG, Windows Defender and Advanced System Care.

I have phoned my ISP who confirm that my internet connec... Read more

My main desktop is Win XP Pro SP3 with a Linksys router. Through the router, my husband connects with his desktop, and I connect with my laptop. However, my main desktop just loses the internet connection spontaneously.

I have replaced the Ethernet cable with no luck. Sometimes if I switch out the ends of the cable, the internet connection will stay on for a few minutes and then disappear; however, I can still connect through my laptop, and my husband can connect through his desktop without problems.

I have limited knowledge of how routers, etc., work, but it seems to me that if it was a router problem the two peripheral computers would not connect. My Ethernet card is affixed to my motherboard, and I have thought about just putting in a new Ethernet card; but without knowing what the problem might be, I don't want to do that without some help first.

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hello, the last few weeks my internet is disonnecting every 30 minutes or so.

The things I've tried so far are:
- Up- and downgrade wifi drivers
- Reset my router
- Change the channel on my router
- Change the wpa lease time on my router and disable it
- Turn of the firewall of my router

This problem only happens to my laptop. I can have my mothers laptop next to me and while mine is disconnected hers will still work. My laptop doesn't get hot either and it is running on maximum performance settings.

Pinging to the router gives a time out (4 packets send, 0 recieved).
Pinging to localhost -n 20 gives 20 packets send, 20 recieved.

Now I'm clueless as this proves I loose connection with my router, however the 2nd ping test tells me my wireless card is ok. So I honestly have no idea what else to try and how to solve this issue.

I'd greatly appreciate your help, thanks.

My internet is now acting up, and it was perfectly fine yesterday. I never made any changes to the modem or laptop.
I use wifi to connect to the internet, and every single minute it cuts out. I then have to disconnect then reconnect, in order to get that 1 minute of internet before getting kicked off again. It is not a range issue, and I have tried unplugging and plugging the modem back in, but with no luck. What is weird to me is that, the first time I had to reconnect it took like 30 minutes before getting kicked, the second was about 20, then 10 and so on, now it is every minute of pure agony. I tried plugging my laptop to the ethernet cable and I don't get kicked. I also don't get kicked with my desktop either.
I assume this is a modem issue, but why does it work when I disconnect then reconnect, it makes no since. So is it something to do with windows 7? Are my wifi settings on my laptop that could be an issue, or is it the modem? Any suggestions would be very appreciated!

I've been having this problem for a year now. I have tried things to fix it in the past but had no luck and I'm trying again now.

I have a Boxx computer running Windows XP. It's an old computer. When I'm using the internet, if I watch streaming video, there's a good chance the computer will drop the internet connection. It happens also sometimes on it's own (when I'm away from the computer) and sometimes while browsing sites with a lot of images. I can regain the connection only by shutting down my computer and turning it back on. It seems like a memory problem to me, but how can I fix it?

I'm positive it's not a problem with the internet or modem. I just got a new internet service and everything is new but the computer still has this problem. I'd like to be able to watch videos and listen to music without having to turn my computer off and on all the time.

I appreciate any help!

Hello everyone. Hopefully I'm posting in the right forum.

So I've come here because I've done hours of googling about my issue with no help. I'm having a problem with my current window/tab "unclicking" itself every 5 minutes or so. It's a common issue, but sometimes requires multiple fixes. I notice it the most in games (I'm a gamer) when playing DoTA2 or Battlefield, the game will minimize all of a sudden, and I'll have to click on it to get back in. It's even happening as I'm typing this message. I have to put the cursor back to where I was typing before to keep typing. As it's going on, sometimes the internet completely disconnects as well, and I have to retype my password to gain access to wifi. The internet has disconnected 3 times while writing this message, and I swear it's worse when I'm typing/using an internet browser.

It happens so infrequently I'm not quite sure what it is. Sometimes it goes on for hours, and sometimes it's not a problem at all. My suspicion is it has something to do with the USB hubs.

Btw, this has never been an issue in the past with my current setup, but I've only noticed this after I recently bought a JSCO Gaming Silent Mouse and a new Razer DeathAdder mouse. I like to have both plugged in at the same time so I can change from one to the other if I need to (my PC is in my bedroom where my wife sleeps, so this works best). Hello, I've had a problem for a very long time now. I have two computers in the house, and one always seems to lose connection after a bit while the other computer is connected 24/7. I'm at a loss, and I've never been very good with things involving networks. I hope you guys can help me out. I'm up for any suggestions.

- I'm connected to my router through an Ethernet cable-

1.) Scanning computer with AVG anti-virus and Malwarbytes
2.) Uninstalling network adapter and re-installing with the latest drivers
3.) Disabling Apple's bonjour service because I've heard it doesn't work well with Windows
4.) Reset router
5.) Used Norton Removal Tool to completely remove Norton which was lingering on my computer

1.) Buying a new Ethernet cable (I plan on buying one later this week).
2.) Buying a new NIC (I will not buy a new one until I know all possible methods have been tested. And I don't know if NIC's even affect Ethernet cables at all).

I'm constantly getting disconnected on my Comcast Internet. (It's my primary connection, but I do have a VZW BroadbandAccess as a secondary and for when I commute/go on the road, etc.) This has always happened, but mostly stopped after I switched to a 5-2200mhz 4-Way splitter about 6 months ago. Before that, the disconnects would be like every ten days. Now, it's happening every few hours. Sometimes it resolves itself, sometimes I have to disconnect and reconnect the modem from the cable line (powercycling doesn't do it). My cable modem is a real pain to get to, being at the bottom of a rack in my crawlspace. It's on a cheap 650VA UPS with the router and some switches.

It always fails on establishing send channels. Can tell that from the logs. (Which I can't seem to access anymore, but that's what it always used to be).

Modem: SB5100
ISP: Comcast, Chicago.
Router: WRT54G v. 6 on DD-WRT, but it doesn't really matter. Does the same thing when connected to my RouterBoard but that's not setup the way I want it yet .
Other Stuff: Airport Express as AP/Print Server/Speakers with DHCP turned off.

Should I just order a new modem? Any recommendations? Would a bidir cable amplifier before the splitter help?

Hi I have a Belkin G+ MIMO Router F5D9230-4 connected to a Linksys AM200. Was suppose to buy a G+ MIMO with built in modem... My ISP is TalkTalk Broadband 8Meg. The router connects 4 PCs on 1 network. Basically everyone loses connection frequently and they are starting to get annoyed All the PCs do not uses static IP addresses Im not very good at setting up routers and modems correctly and would like some help. These are the reasosn I believe im gettign disconnected frequently:

1) Power Supply - Original power supply will not work.. worked once then all lights went off. Using a Multi-Volt adaptor. on the Belkin router output reads 12V 0.5A. The multi-volt adaptor is selected at 15V which is the minimum and says this is 4.5A max is this incorrect and can it cause the dilemma im having. All the lights are on and blink/stay solid as they should.

2) Mixed Cards - Although the router is MIMO 1 computer has a G+ card 2 computers have a G card and the other computer uses an ethernet cable. The ethernet card is built in and is 10/100Mbps. Am thinking of upgrading so all are G+ and the same cards. Have been told its bad to mix cards.

3) Bad Setup - I currently have the router set at PPPoE and same with the modem. However I have other setups and am not sure I have the correct one. Isn't bridge mode what I need? The router's setups are Dynamic, Static, PPPoE, PPTP and Telstra BigPond. The modem's setups are PPPoE, PPPoE, Bridged Mode, Half Bridge. Not sure which one ... Read more

A:Solved: Internet Connection Frequently Disconnects

1. Personally I wouldn't operate any electronic device, certainly not a new one, without the proper power supply. Surely there is a long enough warranty to get that power supply replaced.

2. Try just using standard 802.11g until you get the problems ironed out. Then you can introduce MIMO and see if it improves or hurts.

3. If the AM200 modem/router is operating as a modem and router then the Belkin should be connecting with a dynamic connection. If the AM200 is bridged or whatever the term is to say that it is acting as a modem only then the Belkin router's connection must be whatever your ISP requires.

4. Don't know.

5. No difference, except that dynamic (automatic) are far more convenient.

Beyond the first 3 items you've identified (which you should take care of first), sometimes a router firmware upgrade and then reset it to factory default settings and reconfigure will help disconnect problems.

Ever since I downloaded updates for windows XP, I keep getting disconnected from the internet. I did not have this problem until after these updates. Everytime I get connected it only lasts a few minutes and kicks me off. I am typing this message offline and will paste it in. I don't know if I can stay online long enough to type everything. I used to have service pack 1 and now the updated version is service pack 2. Could that have anything to do with the problem. I would appreciate your help.

Hi guys. My wireless connection woes are never far away .

OK, so I have a wireless connection that has been working fine for almost a year.

Yesterday, I restart my computer, and the connection is connecting...disconnecting...connecting...disconnecting...as so on!

This is only when I am actually browsing the Internet. It never disconnects when the connection is idle.

I have tried changing channels, and I don't think it can be interference, because no matter how close to the WAP I am, the connection keeps connecting and disconnecting.

Also, I tried connecting my WAP directly to my laptop and even the LAN connection kept disconnecting and reconnecting in the same manner! I even tried connecting the WAP to another PC and still, the same dis-reconnecting difficulty.

What to do? Is the WAP faulty? I notice on the WAP the RX/TX light is on and the Link light is on, then (when it disconnects) one light goes off, the other stays on, then the other goes on and the first one goes off, and this goes on and on and then they both stay on. After 10 seconds the pattern repeats itself...

What on earth is going on?

By the way, my WAP is connected to a router which is connected to my cable modem. The wired connection to the router works perfectly, but when the WAP is involved this happens (dis-reconnecting) as I said, even when PC/laptop is hard wired into the WAP.

It was working fine for a year, and then this?

I appreciate any help in advance (as usual ).... Read more

I have similiar problem, that just started few days ago, when I installed norton 360 and logmein software.
After that day, I havent been able to play War of the Roses Beta game nor Age of Conan game, without internet stopping to work. League of Legends does not trigger this problem for some reason.

When problem occurs
I get no connection to internet, although network says it has internet connection.
I can connect to internet again after few minutes (5-15) and all is fine, until I play online games again.
My friend says he hears me a little while (through xfire) after I get disconnected from the game, I dont hear him though.

I was thinking of making new thread, but I feel the problem might be connected or something. Atleast the problem sounds much like mine.

I have had wireless network problems for a long time. I bought a new router and I bought a new adapter, it just seems these problems never stop.
Recently (after 3 months or so of working fine) my wireless internet computer (which is a windows XP and is wireless with a Linksys WRT54GS v7 router and a realtek gateway adapter) keeps reconnecting/disconnecting. So I moved my tower over to the left about 3 feet. My internet works fine for a couple of hours. It then starts to disconnect/reconnect again, so I move it a couple more feet towards the left (which is where the exit of the room is, now my tower is halfway outside my door in order to get a good signal!).
Anyone know the problem?

i purchased my dv7tqe around 9 months ago, and for a while now ive had a problem with my internet connectivity.

everything will be all well and good, then it will say "limited or no connectivity" and i wont have internet access...

it can be remedied by unplugging the ethernet cable, and plugging it back in, but its very annoying.

im assuming that the RealTek PCIe GBE Family Controller is where the problem is, its running and it says its up to date.

i have no idea what is causing this, but its driving me nuts and all help will be appreciated

Hope this isn't confusing but, my internet provider (my cable company) came in to set up a wireless modem/router when we upped our internet speed today. We have three desktop computers which are hard wired to our existing Linksys router which we have been using previously. Would it be in our best interest to turn off the wireless function of that router (it's hooked up to the new modem/wireless router so the hardwired computers can function since the new unit has no ports to plug in the desktop computers into). Our wireless devices are all 'connected' to the new modem/router (using its passphrase and SSID). Can the wireless capabilities of each interfere with each other? They are sitting right next to each other.

A:Solved: Internet provider wireless modem/router and my hard wired router

It's confusing to me, but can make two comments ...

a. If you are not using the wireless network of a router it's best to disable or turn off the wireless--saves electricity and should extend the life of the router.

b. Two wireless networks whose channel numbers are less than five from each other can interfere. In North America if possible use channels 1, 6 and 11 to guarantee non interference.

Short story even shorter, there was a semi-power outage this morning (lights were very dim but power wasn't totally off), and when the power came back on my router stopped working. Here's what I know:

-The WLAN LED is no longer lit so there's no wireless. That orange CiscoSystems button is no longer glowing orange either if that means much.

-For some odd reason a wired connection through any of the ethernet ports on the router no longer works either, though the LED's still light up when connected, along with the internet LED.

-The modem works fine, I'm connected to the internet directly from the modem right now.

-I've tried to reset the router, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

-I've tried to access the router config settings, and the page doesn't load.

-I've tried to look up the routers ip address through the command prompt but when I enter the command "ipconfig" when I'm wired through the router I always get the response something along the lines of "media disconnected". When I try the command when connected directly to the modem the default gateway ip address comes up as ''. This doesn't work either.
I've been searching the web for solutions for hours and I can't find one. This is actually the first time I've ever had to post a thread asking for help and I've experienced a slew of computer problems over the years, lol.

I was attempting to port foreward for my PS3, but was having no luck. Long story short, I tried changing the router's IP to see if it would work. Here's where the problem began. I changed it from to, which I believe may have made it conflict with my modem. Now I'm stuck not being able to access the internet through the router at all or access the router's configuration to change it back. When I try to access it, I just get a "Page not Found". The computer connected directly to the router is running Windows XP. The Router is a Linksys WRT54GS v. 4.

I've tried disconnecting the internet from the Router to see if it would stop the conflicting problem (if that is indeed the problem), but it didn't work. I've tried setting up many different static IP adresses for the computer connected to the router directly, but it didn't work. I've tried nearly everything, but I just can't get it working.

I'm posting this through a computer connected through a switch to my modem.

Thanks in advance.

I own two routers - D-Link DSL-504 (ADSL, not wireless) and D-Link DIR-635 (wireless).

The set-up used to be like this:
- Internet (ADSL) cable pluged in DSL-504 router
- PC connected to DSL-504 via Ethernet port
- DIR-635 connected to DSL-504 (Ethernet port to 'Internet' port) - DSL-504 works as a 'modem'
- Laptop wirelessly connected to DIR-635

Everything has worked (note: it wasn't me who set this up).

Unfortunatelly I have reseted the DIR-635 (wireless router) because of some troubles. Now the wireless router doesn't connect to the Internet. I can connect either computer via cable with the first router and it works like a dream. Computers can also see the DIR-365 router when connected to it via cable, but it does not see the Internet.

I've switched the setup on and off several times. Cables work. Computers work, they can see Internet from other sources.

I guess I need to configure the wireless router in some certain way, but I really have no idea, how.

I'd be grateful for your help.

A:Solved: Router cannot connect to Internet (via another router used as a modem)

Probably IP Address conflict as both D-Links would usually use for default internal (LAN) IP.

You would need to change the LAN IP address of the DIR-615 to another subnet such as for a modem LAN port to router WAN (Internet) port connection unless the DIR-615 can be set as an access point. Will need to check the User Manual to see. Will pull up a PDF and check.

Another option would be to set up using the following method by John Will.
Connecting two soho routers in a network
Tutorial from Johnwill from the Networking Forum

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address, for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

I have Linksys wireless router, and I've been using that for awhile, no problems with it.

I had a 50 foot CAT5 cable sitting around and as well, an old D-Link DI-604 wired router, so I decided to turn the router, into a switch so can I hardwire my Desktop and PS3.

I have the Port 2 Linksys router outputting the internet to the WAN D-Link wired router using the 50 foot cable, and then using Port 1 and 2 to my Desktop and PS3, respectively.

Everything on the Desktop and PS3 side seems to be great, i've noticed web pages loading times decrease.

Except that the computer which is hardwired to my Linksys wireless router, is awfully snail slow.

Is it because the D-Link router is a Router and not a switch, that this problem is happening?

Edit - I've been reading that this is more complicated then a simple plug and go. I have to disable the DHCP and everything, everytime I try to log into my D-Link router, it'll get into the routers main page, but nothing will load after I try to click 'LAN' or 'WAN' or 'DHCP'

Edit 2 - Alright, so I have changed my 2nd router to disable the DHCP and changed the IP to be different from my 1st router, and everything seems good except for one thing. When I plug in my PS3 to either Port 3 or Port 4, the whole network is crippled, and nothing connects. Very interesting. I'm going to replace the CAT6 cable from my PS3 to my router-switch with a crossover cable, i've got a feeling it's ... Read more
