I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Experts, I have installed Fingerprint Manager Pro Windows 7 32 bit to my x1 carbon laptop 207A. After Installation and restart, I click the Lenovo Fingerprint manager pro and it prompted cannot access/enroll fingerprint because my account is a guest or built-in administrator. I have been using this account as administrator. I even activate the user admin account by using the cmd and enter the command net user admin /active:yes (something like that). After that the admin account was open. But still it prompted that error. What should I do to enroll my fingerprint? Please help me!!

Please insert the authentication device." I've attached an image showing this. I'm running Windows 8.1. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hello everyone, today I received my X1 carbon 6th gen. Upon setup, I couldn't complete the fingerprint scan and received the message that the device has disconnected. After the initial setup, I tried to complete the fingerprint scan again, but I only got the same message that the scanner was disconnected. I looked around online and found some forum posts about the uninstalling drivers and installing new ones. I followed all the information I found but to no luck. Maybe I was looking at the wrong drivers online or something. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I recently red an article on the security problems of fingerprint readers, where it was pointed out that allowing any of two (or more) fingerprints to unlock a laptop made it easier for a criminal to match one of them.  As a result, I tried to delete one of the two fingerprints I had enrolled on my laptop.  However the system would not allow me to do this, saying that I had to enroll a minimum of two fingerprints.  Why does HP force one to reduce the security of the laptop by requiring this?  Is there some way of getting around it?

I am using win 8.1 (fully updated) and used to have working fingerprint logon. Now it stopped working. Suddenly I can not use Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro (V 8.01.42(x64)) anymore. Whenever I try to start the application, it asks me for my Windows password, but then responds - "The device is not connected to the computer. Please insert the authentication device." OTH, in the device manager, under Biometric devices, I see Synaptics FP Sensors (WBF) (PID=0017) Also windows fingerprint sign-in option is greyed out. Any hints, what can I check?

A:Fingerprint manager pro no longer recognizing fingerprint sensor (T440s)

Try this:
1.  reboot and then press F1 at "Lenovo" logo to enter BIOS setup
2.  Change to "Security" menu
3.  change to "Fingerprint" item
4.  Choose the option for "Reset Fingerprint Data" - what happens?
5.  Press F10 to save and exit
6.  Try to enroll fingers again - what happens?

Hello,Today I updated my Thinkpad X1 Carbon 5th Gen with the latest drivers recommended by Lenovo Vantage program, as well as the latest Windows 10 Pro updates. After conducting those updates, I can no longer sign in using the Fingerprint sensor. When I open the Device Manager to check the status of the Biometric Device driver, it shows the following message: "This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"The sign in option using the fingerprint does not even show up in the Windows settings for Sign In. Things I have already tried:1) Update the driver through the Device Manager 2) Download and reinstall the fingerpring driver from the Lenovo drivers website3) Reset fingerprint settings in the BIOS and making sure it is enabled4) Change configuration in "gpedit.msc" -> computer configuration -> administrative templates -> windows components -> biometrics -> allow the use of biometrics and allow users to log on using biometrics set to enabled None of the 4 attempts above solved the problem. Can anyone please provide any solution for this case? It looks like a lot of people have been experiencing this issue and no one from Lenovo provided a clear and definitive solution. The latest drivers must have bugs and, in my opinion, Lenovo must stop distributing them until this issue is fixed. Thank you very much.Best.

Hey guys and gals, The sensor had been hit or miss from day one, when it worked it would sometimes take 3 presses before registering correctly. I've been using these kinds of sensors for years on my phones so I was suprised at how much effort it took to get it to work. It often wasn't avaliable to me when the laptop came out of sleep mode, or if the screen had been locked.  One day last month it stopped working completely. It isn't being detected at all in the device manager, unless it's under a differnt name now. I tried restoring from factory and seeing if I could get it back. After running all the Windows, driver, and firmware updates, it's still not present in the device manager. I went in the BIOS and checked to see that the fingerprint sensor was enabled. It was, and then I tried to delete any fingerprint data, but there wasn't any. So I'm wondering, has anyone else has had a similar issue and if there's a way I can fix this without having to RMA my otherwise kickass laptop?  Maybe the senseor is loose? Should I open her up and make sure everything's tight? I haven't unbuckled any of her fasteners yet, but if it could save me a month of being computerless while she's in the shop, I'll gladly try it.   Cheers

Hi, I'm a happy owner of a Dell E5270 and on The base plate there's a fingerprint sensor. However, when I install the recommended drivers there are no biometric devices. What is visible (in device manager) is Dell Control Vault w/o fingerprint sensor. Is it possible that there is a sensor but that The system lacks the optional fingerprint unit inside the laptop housing? There are no exclamation Marks in the device manager.
Secondly I've found the Dell DW5811E 3P10Y wwan card for the dell e5270 at a bargain price but i would like to know where to finf the cables in the housing? .

Something is weird with the fingerprint sensor. When it works, it works instantly and recognizes my fingerprint right away, no matter which part of the finger I use. The problem is that it's *constantly* forgetting my finger. It'll work fine, then I'll close my laptop and come back in a little bit and it doesn't work at all...fails three times and have to use my PIN. Once that happens it doesn't work again, at all, until I re-enroll my fingerprint at which time it works perfectly again for some time. I end up having to re-enroll once or twice a day. Lenovo Vantage pulled in a new version of the driver package today but it didn't help...the issue just happened again. Anyone know what the cause might be?

Hey, About a week ago I came back from vacation, Jan 20-29, and I installed a bunch of updates through the lenovo service center. A couple days later I noticed the fingerprint scanner had stopped working and a couple of days ago I noticed my usb ports weren't working either, with several usb drives that I had proven functional on a friends computer. After reinstalling some BIOS and usb drivers I have solved the usb problem, and I'm almost positive the fingerprint scanner is the result of some software. The timing is way too convenient to be anything else in my opinion. When trying to set up fingerprints through the "fingerprint enrollment" window it'll say "Cannot communicate with the sensor, please confirm the sensor is ready." Any and all suggestions are welcome. Morten Nissov

Hi everyone,I have an X1 carbon 2nd Gen laptop, with type 20A8S18T00. Everything works fine except the fingerprint security. I have installed the ThinkVantage Finferprint Software v6.0.0.8102 - the latest one, then the fingerprint driver "should be already installed along" (as I read somewhere).  But when I tried to enroll new fingerprint data, it always show the error E7210005 - "Cannot enroll user. Cannot update passport. Cannot find fingerprint sensor device". I have checked my BIOS Setting and seen that the option "Fingerprint Reader" was disabled and there is no way to select it and change value to Enable or whatever. I have heard people said that option must be enabled before doing making any changes with fingerprint data. Now I'm totally stuck! Here are my BIOS Setting screenshots: 1 - BIOS General Information 2 - Security >> Fingerprint 3 - Security >> I/O Port Access 4 - Security >> Secure Boot Could you please have me solve this case? Thank you so much.

A:[X1 Carbon 2nd Gen] Cannot enable fingerprint reader in BIOS

Hi chaudh76, welcome to the forum.

The correct software for the device is Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-...

The version you have listed (v6.0.0.8102) is for ThinkPad X1, X1 Carbon (Type 34xx), not your 20A8.

Make sure you download, and run, the ThinkVantage System Update:

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-...

If you download, and run the ThinkVantage System Update first, all of your system drivers will be checked. If any of them need updating, they will appear in the list, and you can download/install them through the program.

Also, here is the complete Lenovo support, and download site, for your ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Type 20A7, 20A8). It contains everything you need: Downloads/Product & Parts/Manuals/Solutions/Videos/Accessories

http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-...
