Docking Station Compatibility W550s, T450 and T520

Q: Docking Station Compatibility W550s, T450 and T520

I use a Thinkpad W550s for work. I am looking at purchasing a T450 (or T570) and T520 for home. I enjoy the docking capability from the W550s at work and I trying to determine if there is a single dock available for all of these models.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Highgrader,Warm Greetings & welcome to Lenovo Community, happy to have you here.

Well looks like ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro Dock & ThinkPad USB 3.0 Ultra Dock are the only USB Docks / Cable Docks compatible with all the three W550s, T450 and T520 models.

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

I'm expecting the answer is no but thought I'd check before ordering. I'm going to replace my T520 with a Y700 and really don't want to buy another docking station if I don't have to. Can I dock my Y700 in the same dock as a T520. Can I reuse my power adapters? Thanks for any advise.

A:Is a T520 docking station/power adapter compatible...

extremely unlikely. If a dock exists for the y700 and the part # is the same. I doubt it on some many fronts its pointless to list. Look up the systems options.

I have a T520 thinkpad with a docking station.  I can get my headphones to work fine out of the laptop, but I would like to leave my headphones plugged into the headphone jack on the dock itself.  The computer doesn't seem to recognize this jack is even there.  My only sound options are the laptop speakers and the audio jack on the right side of the laptop. Any ideas how to enable the audio jack on the back of the dock?

Hello, I am happy with my T520 - i7 Quad core andI would like to buy a docking station for home. I am going to connect only one monitor to this dock. I understand the differencies between 4337 and 4338 models, but actually I use 4337 dock with two monitors and 90 W adapter from one year and I have no problems. After readigng ThinkWiki and some posts I understand that I have to use 4338 model. Unless it is working I am okay, but I am confused about the preformance. Do you guys think that there may be issues with performance  doe to the lower than recommended power supplying. Thank you!

I use 3 external monitors conected to my docking station (Dell P2314H). Two of the monitors display 1920 x 1080 and they are connected to the 2 DP ports on the docking station. The third is connected to the VGA port and when I set the resolution to 1920 x 1080 the left and right edges of the image don't fit on the screen. It is just enough off to prevent me from clicking the start button in the corner. Has anyone else had this issue?

I installed Ubuntu on an mSATA card in my T520, which is on the 4338-35U docking station connecting 2 external monitors via digital video cables. This dual-display works nicely for Windows 10. The only troule is, with this configuration, the power-on ThinkPad logo (where I can press the F12 key to select boot device) doesn't show on neither monitor and doesn't respond to my pressing on the F12 key. The Device Manager shows all drivers are installed. When power-on off the docking station, I can use the F12 key select boot device to go for either Windows 10 or Ubuntu (Linux). I need advice on how to get the boot device selection screen to show up when the laptop sits on the docking staion.

I have ThinkPad T470 laptop with Windows 10 pro x64 installed. Sound plays just fine from the laptop's speakers, and when I plug external speakers into the laptop's 3.5mm audio port they work just fine too.But...when the laptop is docked in my Ultra Dock 90W docking station and the external speakers cable is plugged into the dock's audio port, no sound is heard. If I'm playing music through the laptop's speakers, as soon as I plug a cable into the dock's audio port no sound is heard. I can still use the laptop's audio port to connect external speakers, but that defeats the object of having an audio port on the Ultra Dock. I believe the driver of external speaker plugged into dock is well-installed and well-detected by the device managerI already set it as default audio output and can see the volume symbol up-and-down while testing it.I also had my T450 docked and the audio port from this Ultra Dock worked just as expected!! It seems everything works fine but still no sound can be heard when T470 is docked. Is it a bug when using Dock with T470 docked ??What do I need to do to get the Ultra Dock's audio port working?Anyone can help ?? The mobo my T430 died, and I am considering a T450.  My questions are three-fold. First, do they use the same power supply?  I only have about 4 of the T430 ones..... Second, will the T450 fit in the T430 docking station?  Lenovo's docking station compatibility finder doesn't list these any longer. Third, will the T430 hard drive fit in the T450?  I don't believe that it will as they are different interfaces, but I have a lot of data on the HD.  Might have to get one of those Startech external power systems and copy things over. Thanks!

Hello,
I have a new XPS 13 9350 laptop (running Windows 10 Home) which I am trying to use with a D3100 docking station, connected to two S2415H monitors via HDMI cables.  I am having various issues with this:

The laptop does not charge via the docking station.
I experience strange intermittent issues when connected to the docking station.  For example, sometimes my internet connection simply doesn't work and/or Chrome crashes (neither of which happen when not connected to the docking station).

My primary question is around compatibility.  The Dell website is entirely unclear as to which docking station(s) are or aren't compatible with the XPS 13 9350 (specifically the 9350, not earlier models).  I have looked at the product pages for the XPS 13 9350, the D3100 docking station and the newly available Thunderbolt Dock-TB15 docking station.  None of these pages explicitly show that the laptop is compatible with either of these docking stations.
So...could someone please confirm what is or isn't compatible?  The D3100 docking station doesn't appear to be fully compatible, but I suppose this could also be an issues with Windows 10 as well.
Thank you in advance,
Mark

A:XPS 13 9350 docking station compatibility

Just got off a chat with Dell and they stated the D3100 is compatible with the XPS 9350.  This means virtually nothing, as "compatible" doesn't mean it works properly in my experience.
Have you updated the drivers and/or BIOS?
Also, the D3100 doesn't charge ANYTHING. It does not have that capability.

Hello. Purchase a Yoga 710 and have been trying to find a portable docking station for this laptop. Many available in the market but dont want to purchase if it wont work. This particular laptop lacks in ports (I didnt think to look before I bought it) and have been struggling to get even one external monitor connected since most monitors being sold are either standard HDMI, not the mini hdmi port on this laptop. I had to order a HDMI mini cable to finally get an external monitor to work, but now i want to have the ease of use of plugging in my keyboard, mouse, micrphone, headset and x2 monitors so i dont have to mess with all these cables each time i move the laptop from point A to point B. Is there a port on my laptop that will allow me to connect to a portable docking station? As mentioned, many of these are available for sale, just want to make sure I get the right one.

Does anyone know if the Advanced E-port docking station for the Latitude E6400/E6500 supports dual DVI 22" widescreen monitors being used in extended mode ?
Apologies if there is already a thread on this but I find the new forum format impossible to search.  Any tips on how to narrow down searches would be gratefully received.

A:Docking station compatibility with dual DVI monitors

I have multiple users using dual DVI monitors and the docking station. At this time, I have only been able to get them up and running using one as a DVI monitor and the other as VGA.
Another post says to connect both to the DVI output, then manually configure the monitors to the DVI input using the monitors menu system. (Not the "Auto Detect" ), then with both monitors powered up, dock the laptop. I am trying this tomorrow.
Once the dual monitors are up and running, open the windows Display properties, select the NVIDIA tab, go to the NVIDIA console and setup your configuration as desired. Exit the console, then the Windows Display properties, and it should hold the configuration.

Hi guys,

i am experiencing some problems with the 2 mentioned laptops.

The 1st one is:
I bought a used 7020 to replace the broken screen of 7200. After disassembled the screen, I noticed that the connectors have the same number of wires, but one of the terminal of the 7200's screen has a larger socket. "no problem" I thought, and with patience I picked up the cable of the 7020 adapter an put it into the 7200.
But when i turned it on i saw only colored lines and squares :S :S
If you want i can provide the PN, if it could help...Even if i check the compatibility before order.

2nd problem:
Portege 7200 recognize correctly the docking station, while the 7020 emit some beeps before boot, and obviously it doesn't work with him. I checked on toshiba's site and the dock would be totally compatible!

And for last... Where can i find bios updates?

Sorry for my bad english, i hope that someone could help me!

regards,
Francesco

A:Compatibility problem with Portege 7020 / 7200 CT display & docking station

Hello Francesco

You will be really lucky if anyone here can help you with these old notebook models. I am pretty sure they are about 10 years old.
Without maintenance manuals and enough knowledge is not easy to help you with this display replacement.

This issue with docking station can be related to defective hardware. Both notebooks are so similar and both of them can be used with this docking station. How you can be sure hardware is top on 7020?

BIOS updates are available on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp but as I can see for Portege 7000 there is no BIOS update, just for 7020.

If you want you can contact nearest Toshiba service provider. they have maintenance manuals for this old notebooks and they can help you offering exact info about parts you need.

This is request to Thinkpad software development team. As showed by this long forum thread:http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/w550s-t550-lcd-screen-replacement-brightness-set-at-max.7741... Some Intel core 5th gen Thinkpads like T450, T450s, T550, W550s has display panel whitelist in their BIOS which will cause brightness control not working in Windows if user installed display panel which isn't in the whitelist. The whitelist is based on the display EDID and are put inside the bios. There is no way to circumvent the whitelist without flashing the display's EEPROM (by altering the EDID) or patching the BIOS which are not easy thing to do for normal people. So I hope Thinkpad dev team could release a BIOS update to remove the whitelist code. Because if not, this whitelist issue will hurt the sell value of those thinkpads. As if the screen is defective, finding the replacement display panel will be very difficult. As time goes by, who knows in future no one will produce the whitelisted lenovo panel anymore, then those thinkpads (with defective screen) would lose their sell value. Thinkpad is most known for its repairability, so I hope this feat can be maintaned.

Hi!
I have a Latitude E7740 that runs Ubuntu Xenial (16.04). I dock it to a "Dell EURO2 Advanced E-port II" docking station.
If I boot it in the docking station, everything works fine, and I find all my two DVI-connected monitors.
However, if I undock, then put it into the dock again while running, it fails to enable the screens. I'm using a script called autorandr for switching between display modes - it uses xrandr. It tries to run:
xrandr --output DP1-1 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 0x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal --output DP1-2 --gamma 1.0:1.0:1.0 --mode 1920x1200 --panning 0x0 --pos 1920x0 --rate 59.95 --reflect normal --rotate normal
But the X server responds with:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)  Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)  Minor opcode of failed request: 21 (RRSetCrtcConfig)  Serial number of failed request: 48  Current serial number in output stream: 48
Running this exact command after booting in the dock is doing the right thing, but after undocking then docking, it doesn't work.
Any ideas here? I have updated to the latest BIOS version.
Problem also reported in launchpad with lot's of debug info, here:
bugs.launchpad.net/.../1585884
Autorandr script is here: github.com/.../

Hello, I'm confused about dock stations for Dual Core / Quad Core modifications of T520. After some reading, including some posts on this forum, I assumed that the only difference is that Quad Core models require 170W power supply, and otherwise the dock stations are the same. Looking at a laptop for personal use but not sure what to get between T550 and T450....to replace my X220 Just wanted to get information on M2 SSD compatibiltiy for these laptop... I am guessing they both should be compatible with 2240 M2 SSD but just wanted to confirm to make sure that I can have 2 HDD Currently on my X220 I have mPCI SSD to boot OS and using 2.5" SSD for data storage and wanted to do the same on one of these... also if anyone want to put some input comparing T450 or T550 that would be great.... Still tossing between these 2 laptop, T450 or T550, T550 still seems to be still portable but never had 15" laptop so not sure how massive that would be.... Current work laptop is T440 so I should get used to T450 more so then T550.... i might get good use of extra screen estate...... Thanks for your input.

A:T450 & T550 M2 SSD Compatibility

Officially Lenovo does not support M.2 SSD as a boot device.  M.2 SSD is only supported as a cache device, and then, only when it is configured that way as an option from Lenovo factory.  This is the official Lenovo support position.

I can tell you about my personal experience.  I have T550 and I ordered an aftermarket 256GB Transcend M.2 SSD to put in it.  There was no problem for BIOS to detect it, and I could easily install Win7 on it.  As long as I was actively using the system, there was no problem.  But whenever I left the system idle it would eventually BSOD with code F4, usually after 30-45 minutes.  My conclusion is that there must be some incompatibility between this SSD and T550.  There was not any firmware update on transcend's website that I could find, and I'm using the latest T550 BIOS already.  So I really have no idea what the problem could be.

Now I'm using the T550 with a single 2.5" 512GB samsung SSD and it is rock-solid reliable.  So definitely, my problem had something to do with the Transcend M.2 SSD.

Is there a docking station compatible with the 450 G2 that anyone is aware of?

A:450 g2 Docking Station

Hi, It does not have docking port therfore any USB port replicator will do. There are many USB 3.0 port replicators around, depending on how do you want to use the dock, the following one would be more suitable for your machine:               http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=5278439 Regards.

I have a Dell D620. When i connect to my docking station. I can not access my my wireless, air card or lan connection.

I have plenty of these docks in my company, and have had a few god bad. That would explain the LAN net working, but your wireless and air card shouldn't be affected in any way. Are you saying that if you are connected to your network by wireless, and you dock your laptop...then connection drops and the card disables?

I purchased a refurb'd IBM THINKPAD 570. It has the docking station. I have never worked with a laptop before and do not know anything about them. My question is: If I am not using the CD/DVD, or floppy, what, if any, are the advantages to keeping it docked? If I play music in the Windows Media Player, does the docking station improve the sound quality?

A:Docking Station

...the docking station is just there so you don't have to screw around with cables every time you get into work. They don't improve anything except time management.

Does anyone know which Docking Station I should pair with my Spectre x360 15-ap007na 4K (T1D64EA#AB)? If anyone from HP reads this, it would be very useful to have a search equivalent of Care Pack Central for compatible Docking Stations. With thanks, Colin

File Transfer - Help Wanted

It will be from the old computer running Windows XP to a new computer running Windows 7.

The old computer has files which I have accumulated over a number of years, it is a mixture of those used rarely, used frequently and junk.

The chances are some of the files will never be used again, but they just might be wanted at some future date. I am therefore reluctant to scrap anything. Neither do I want to put a lot of possibly unnecessary files on the new computer.

I need to be able to search the old hard drive and recover a file if it is wanted.

The old computer is about 9 years old and is slow and may not be worth upgrading.

I now have two computers and one monitor and I am not sure what would be the best route.

I have not used a Docking Station before but thought this could be a possibility, on Amazon I found:

DUAL 2.5"/3.5" IDE SATA HDD HARD DRIVE DOCK DOCKING STATION IDE SATA eSATA USB ALL IN 1
By DX-MALL

Any ideas would be a big help. Thanks.
