Double Click Images Don't Open (Windows PIc & Fax Viewer)

Q: Double Click Images Don't Open (Windows PIc & Fax Viewer)

I posted a video on youtube to show specifically what I have done and what the problem is.
Code:
[URL]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-acGkW2OcU[/URL]
One day I noticed that double clicking some pictures didn't open. I am trying to figure out why.

Experiencing some strange behavior when registering shimgvw.dll, context menus are missing options

When I disable shell image verbs using Nirsoft, context menu options come back but double click stops working.

If anyone knows how to keep the context menu options and the double click please let me know.

- Also I tried going to explorer->tools->folder options->file types and manually selecting bmp to open with picture and fax viewer but double click still didn't work

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Like my title read, I can't open any folders in my Windows Explorer with a double click. It gives me the error message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." This also happens whenever I try to open any drives, such as C: drive. I can however run programs from Windows Explorer, and can right click, then choose open to open folders.

I have already done extensive searching on the subject, tried deleting autorun.ini files, tried some registry fixes, with no luck. I'm obviously running Windows 7, 32-bit, on a HP desktop.

A:Can't open any folders in Windows Explorer with double click

This may not be the best solution, as I am sure others may have a better solution, but it might work.

Go to start

type cmd into the search bar

right click cmd.exe and choose run as administrator.

Type the following. SFC /SCANNOW and press enter.

See if it finds any errors.

Hello everybody!

I will shortly describe my situation.

I bought new msi laptop, Installed Windows 8.1 on it, I added SSD 128 and installed windows on it, then because SSD is small, I found the way how to change default installation location(Of new programs), location of documents, location of Desktop in registry settings, i changed them and everything worked perfectly.

NOW i cause problem, each time when i tried to open picture it pop-up error " rundll the specified module could not be found". I found solution on YouTube. ( I don't know if I can upload the link so i say what it was about)

"How to Fix RUNDLL Error 100% Working"

I did the steps from the tutorial, go to command promt, run it as admin, and type " SFC /SCANNOW"
I restarted laptop as it was advice, and now when I click on picture, it doesn't show any error, any RUNDLL box,
When I double-click on pic (or EVEN when i right-click the picture), it refresh desktop, minimize every program that run, close all open explore folders, and shows nothing, no pictures. That is really strange behavior when I try to open picture, I downloaded common software to open pictures, and it worked, but I want to use windows in normal way, no by third-part software.

If anybody is familiar with this problem please help me, I couldn't find any solution anywhere, it always was some other cases.

I have recently noticed some odd behavior in my computer, for some reason when I open My Computer and double click on a hard drive (I have 3) it will not open the drive. However I can still right-click and choose Explore to get around it.

At first I thought that this was a virus but after 3 scans with SpyBot I am still clean. Any ideas? It's not critical but I do find it odd.

When I double click any movie file, it will not open windows media player 11.   I'm running windows XP.

If I set the XP window file associations to always open with Zoom Player, then Zoom Player will open on double clicking normally.

If I set it back to open with WMP - it will not open.

I can right click any movie file and click open with WMP and that will work.

It's just DOUBLE CLICKING the file that doesnt work.

I am experienced computer user and this one has me baffled.  I do know all about file associations, but I just cant get this working.  BTW, running safe mode still has the same problem.

HELP!

A:Double click movie file will not open Windows Media Player

Duh... tried to uninstall Windows Media Player in order to reinstall WMP11.  Forget uninstalling it....I just downloaded WMP11 and installed it.  Now the file associations work properly!!

Now I need to reinstall K-Lite Codecs into WMP...always a problem for me to decide which version to install???  I went to Wikipedia and read all about the different versions.  I chose the BASIC VERSION...a minimum of codecs get installed.

Also - what to do with WMP Network Sharing Service - whether to allow it through my firewall?
I had pop-ups from ZoneAlarm requesting sharing WMP on my network.  I chose to allow sharing.

Correct. "Folder Options" refers to Windows Explorer. The "folders" within a program, like WLM, are under the control of the program. However I noticed that my version of WLM (2009) behaves the way you want without the "Reading" pane turned on. If I turn it on then a single click shows the email in the reading pane. If I turn it off, it takes a double click to open the email to view it. The reading pane is controlled via the "Layout" Viewing option.

I'm hoping that somebody has seen this issue and can help. I'm running RC 7100 and it's working great. The one problem I have occurs consistently after the machine has been running for about 24 hours. Suddenly you can no longer open files / folders or start programs by double clicking on the icon.

It works when first booted, then stops. If you reboot it works again.

I tried changing the options such that you can open with a single click, and it didn't fix the problem.

Anyone else seen this? Any known solutions?

Example I am looking at a full window of folders with five coloumns of folders. If I double click on a folder in any coloumn except the far left coloumn, all of the coloumns move to the left by one coloumn space. Reseting file and view settings does not
fix the problem. I have seen this on Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 7 Professional, and Windows 7 Enterprise. It does not matter if it is on a domain or not or if a group policy is setting the home page.
This means I have to click twice as many times to open a folder in list view and that is the view I really want to use. Clicking twice as many times is also not good for carpel tunnel. This happens on my home and work computers and I have seen it on other
Windows 7 computers. Neither does the reg hack for MIUs or something similiar to that.

A:Windows 7 Explorer in list view moves coloumns of folders to left when you double click folder to open it

Hi,

That’s a by design feature, but you can apply view settings to all folders of the same type. Here are
the detailed steps:

1. Open a folder and make changes as you like.
2. Press Alt to display the menu bar. Click Tools -> Folder options.
3. Click View tab.
4. Press the "Apply to folders" button.
5. Click Apply and click OK.

Note: The "Apply to folders" settings apply the current view setting to all folders that are optimized for the
same content as the folder you have open. This setting will not apply to the folders which is not the same type.

Hope that helps.

My Issue:

As of 4th July 2009 weekend my system has been operating quirky and buggy. In my troubles I've installed Avast Anitvirus. Now around that time, one day I can recall returning to my computer and it had shutdown on its own, although my system remains on idle the majority of the week by the way. At that point, when attempting to open a program (by clicking on any of my icons on the desktop) the computer would quirk and reboot. After several attempts, eventually it resulted in a continuous reboot, window would repeatedly restart. If I can remember correctly, in the process I got some prompts then eventually a dreaded blue screen perhaps something about windows couldnt find or load a file, i think it had a .dll extension. WOw. Weird problem going on here. I have no idea what may have caused this, but anyway, basically what is happening here is that now whenever I double click a music file from my "my music" folder nothing happens. It goes to the little hourglass thingy like its thinking for a split second and then nothing happens. The file won't open.

So this was pissing me off. I have no idea why I can't open my music files in a simple manner any longer.

The other thing is that they will open fine if WMP (my default player) is already open. If WMP is just sitting there in the background and I double click an audio file it opens without a problem, but if nothing is open and I double click on an MP3 it does nothing.

What's Going On Here???

My computer recently froze, and after rebooting it I can no longer double-click to open up any folders on my hard drive. Instead, after 1-click a search/command prompt opens up, and I must manually click 'open' to execute the program. Right-clicking does absolutely nothing at all--no search/command prompt or copy/edit function.
Here's what I've done so far:
1) I have checked my mouse settings. the preference for double-clicking is on, and I slowed the speed down as well.
2) I have run AVG anti-virus as well as Trend Micro and nothing has come up. (I also ran an online virus scan at Pandasecurity.com)
3) I have updated/run Spybot and again, nothing unusual.
4) I tried the following solution at dougknox: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_d...older_open.htm
and still nothing.
5) I tried a system restore to a few days prior, and again nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Press Windows Key + E to open Windows Explorer.

With the "General" tab selected, choose the item labelled "Single click to open an item (point to select)".

Not sure if this is correct place to post but here is my problem.

Recently, I purchased a built computer from a small PC shop. I had trouble connecting to the internet, so the technician who built it came and added a network adapter card and changed some settings. (Not sure what he did.) After he left, my drives were not detected at all, not in My Computer nor in Device Manager so I did a system restore, which got the drives back but then I had trouble connecting to the internet again. So, I undid the system restore and connected OK again. A day later, I noticed I could not open a disc by double clicking on the drive in My Computer. Hopefully this will be an acceptable forum to put this in. Honestly, I'm not sure where else.

So, here's the problem:

If I double-click on an Excel file, I get the following message: ""Windows cannot find /path/. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." Excel opens up fine, but without the workbook. If, within Excel, I open the file up using OfficeOrb -> Open, it opens just fine.

Why, you ask, did I not put this in the MS Office area? Because the same thing occurs with National Instruments LabView .vi files. Only difference is that the file opens in LabView. So, this suggests a Windows Explorer issue, not an MS Office issue.

Here's another strange thing: It doesn't really seem to have anything to do with any particular install. While I was working on finding a solution for this, somehow the same thing happened with my Word documents. Figuring it might be some kind of odd issue, I decided to roll back with a restore point. That fixed the Word issue, but not the Excel or LabView ones.

Now, I'd love to blame SP1, but the LabView one started before I installed SP1.

I've tried most of the simple solutions people have suggested for the Excel one (which annoys me far more than the LabView one, to be honest). My "Ignore other applications..." box is unchecked, to no avail. Most posts on this topic are with Office 2003 and XP, so they are of limited value (I suspect XP is the more important limitation).

A:File Won't Open on Double-Click

Okay, so incredibly, I solved this. Hours and hours later, I solved it.

This is going to sound incredibly stupid, but the solution (for both applications) was as follows:

1) Go to the root directory for the executable for the program (example: C:/Program Files (x86)/Microsoft Office/Office12)
2) Right-click on the executable (in this case, EXCEL.EXE)
3) Select "Properties"
4) Click on the "Compatibility" tab
5) Unselect "Run this program as an administrator"

Yes, that's right. I solved a problem by not running the program as an administrator.

If anyone has a similar problem, but this is not the issue, let me know. I probably ran across an alternative while I was searching.

Now if I can just figure out how to tip my own scales for this solution...

My suspicion, based on your description, is that your mouse buttons have been reversed. For example, if you are right-handed and the mouse's configuration was set to the default settings, then I believe that something has caused your mouse to switch to a left-handed person's configuration.

Click on the Start button and select the "Control Panel" option. Open up the "Mouse" control panel and search through the various tabs for an option that is labeled something like "Swap left and right mouse buttons". The option is going to be different depending on the type of mouse driver software that is installed, but it should be there somewhere. Once you have found it, change it as needed (i.e. if it is checked, then uncheck it and vice-versa). Click the Apply button followed by the OK button.

When I attempt to open folders in Windows XP by double-clicking - it instead gives me the option to rename the folder.

To go around this problem, i changed the folder option to single-click to open folder. But by doing so, i am not able to double-click to open subfolders within my Front Page website folder. Nor am I able to highlight multiple files/folders to drag to move or copy.

Therefore, I need to go back to double-click to open folders/files option.

How can this be corrected? Please advise!

Thanks.

Hi everyone!

When I find a media file (video file, for example) and double click it, the Media Player doesn't start at all...

I tried to re-associate the Windows Media Player to it's default media extensions through "Default Programs" , and it doesn't work...

All media files play normally on other players. I have to state that sometimes I get the message: "The file.... The parameter is incorrect".

Any help would be greatly appreciated. God bless guys! Take care!

OS: Vista 32 bit

A:Windows Media Player doesn't open media files on double click

What are the filetypes for those Video files? Maybe it's a Codec problem.

Hi. I am unable to open D & E drives by double click. It ask to choose the program to open this file.
I can open it by right click and open the drive.

What is the problem?

Help need.

Regards.

A:Unable To Open D & E Drives By Double Click

See if you can locate a file in the root directory of these drives (and also check the C: drive) named Autorun.inf (you may need to view hidden and system files). If you find it rename it to something else.

Initially, whenever I double clicked any drive icon, it denied access and my anti-virus (AOL Active Virus Shield) showed a warning (not-a-virus: trojan). I treated the threats (deleting infected files).

After that, whenever I double clicked any drive icon, it just opened an "Open With" box. I created a new open action using Windows Explorer as the application.

But now, it just says "action denied". I have to right click the drive and select open from the menu to open any drive. Folders and everything else work fine.

By the way, I know there was a topic called "double clicking folders opens search window" but the links in that topic just generate an error message...

Help please. Thank you in advance.

A:Double Click Doesn't Open Drives

Run CHKDSK on that drive and try Doug Knox's folder_open.vbs if you continue to have problems.Always back up your registry before making any changes. If you are not familiar with working in the registry, then you should NOT attempt to make any changes on your own. Improper changes to the registry could adversely affect your computer and render it inoperable. If the above does not resolve the issue then your symptoms could be related to a flash drive infection. In that case download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program. The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.Reboot your computer when done.

Windows XP service pack 3 .

When i double click any drive , lets say D Drive.
It opens in to new separate window.
Surely options are set to "open in to same window".

The problem only with the clicking on main drives.

And problem do not occur when i click on the folders. They
do open into same windows.

Buddies: Thanks in advance :-)

I have Windows 8.1 and on my desktop are several PNG files and shortcuts. When I double click on any of them the program that opens is Directory Opus (I use this instead of Windows Explorer). I checked the defaults and it is NOT Directory Opus. Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Dianne

A:Double click does not open default program

Right click on the file (not link) /open with /choose default program / and associate with windows photo viewer or Pictures ( metro app)
P.S. "open with" may be under "x64" heading.

hello...........

I first had a problem when i was unalbe to open my drives by double clicking,
when addressing my problem to win XP-support forum they gave a solution by converting the "autorun.inf" to "autorun.bak" in the drivers root, this partially solved the problem .
they also suggested that i have an infection and they were right cause AVG has detected a threat and deleted it.
But after the first scan by AVG and restarting...it came on to a different infection :

Hi!

I have a problem regarding double click to open folders. Besides from folders, I have no problems with double clicking. To open a folder I have to right click and chose "Open" as the default is "Explore". When I double click I recieve the following message:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."

I've looked at the Default Programs, but can't find what file extension the folders have and where I find to associate them with "Open". Though I do believe it's a registry fault/corruption, but I'm not entirely sure.

I've had this problem for a week or two and the only application I can think of that I've installed would be msn. I also did a windows update to SP 1, though that was after I already had this error. I'm currently using Windows 7 Enterprise SP1.

Do you guys have any idea what could be wrong and how I fix it?

Thanks for help in advance.

A:[SOLVED] Can't double click to open folders

Apply the "folder" fix - http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/fi...for-windows-7/

If still no-go, try the "directory" fix.
