Q: Flex 3 Wi-Fi works for 5 minutes then shuts off

Hey guys, I have a Flex 3 that I got today and it's having this one problem. Once it first boots up it has internet connection. Five minutes later it just shuts off. Can anybody tell me how to fix this? All of my other devices in my home are connected and working good.

Preferred Solution: Flex 3 Wi-Fi works for 5 minutes then shuts off

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,My Flex 4 1480 completely shuts off exactly after 5 minutes when running on battery. Works fine when plugged in.It shuts down even when running in the BIOS screen, which may point that it is a firmware issue.I have BIOS 2SCN23WW version installed. Tried updating to 2SCN24WW, but it always fails (no given reason).I's apprecaite any recommendations on the BIOS update or the shut-down issues? Thanks

Hi All, A couple of weeks ago we have a strange behavior with our Lenovo Flex 2 Pro. The notebook is turning off at exact 30 minutes, in the BIOS or in Windows this is make no differents. Now i googled a lot and found a lot of the same problem and all replaced the mainboard. I hope offcourse that we don't need to do that because the mainboard is around 350 dollar. Specs of the notebook:Lenovo Flex 2 Pro 80FL (I7-4510U) Already tried:- BIOS updated- BIOS resetted- Intel ME Firmware upgraded- Windows repair - Virusscan + Malware- Monitored the heat of the laptop- Replaced the cooling paste to be sure of the CPU and GPU- Removed a lot of components to test what the problem is (SSD, Audio, SD reader, Battery, CMOS battery) Hope one of you have a solution.

Hi. I have a problem with the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 15D. I was using it normally one day, using Google Chrome, when it suddenly stopped responding. The whole PC stopped responding (although I could still use the mouse normally) and I had to manually shut it off. When I tried turning it back on, it took at least 10 minutes, and froze again about 5 minutes later. Now, the computer freezes after 10 minutes of use, even when I'm not even logged in. This has been happening for days. If anyone can help me, thank you in advance. (I'm using Windows 10 as well)

LENOVO 80R3 Flex 3-1480 Display keeps shutting off at random times. I have already reinstalled Windows and shut off everything I could find in Windows that pertains to sleep mode or hibernation - I'll be in the middle of something and the display will go black and I am forced to hard reboot the laptop to bring it back. I have installed all the latest Microsoft updates - this is Windows 10 Version 1607 (build 14393.1066).

I purchased flex 3 5 months back but from few days occasionally, the screen goes black (backlight is still on)  while I'm using the computer, as the hard drive stops whirring and the computer itself seems to go to sleep. However, the power button nor the keyboard can seem to wake it up and I end up having to do a hard reset to power it back on. Oddly, the power and battery lights are still on and I can still switch on the keyboard backlight. This happens even when the battery is above 50% full. Please suggest solution for it.

Laptop: Lenovo Flex 3 1470
OS: Windows 10 pro x64
Card: AC-3160
Driver: 18.40.0

I have this strangest issue with my Lenovo Flex 3 1470. My built in bluetooth receiver only turns on when i restart windows. If I shut off windows completly and then turn it back on again, bluetooth doesnt work. The icon is dissapeared from the action center and from the device manager. In this state (with laptop on and bluetooth not working), if I restart windows (through start>on/off>restart) the bluetooth device suddenly becomes available upon rebooting. And it works completly stable with all connected devices. I don't want to restart my laptop every time I want to use a bluetooth device.

I have tried several things, a clean windows 10 installation, some energy on and off switches in device manager and many different kind of drivers. I even tried replacing the card with a ac7265, but when i did this WiFi worked and bluetooth entirely didnt work nor did it show up in device manager. I waisted money in a effort to fix this strange bluetooth problem,  i guess.

Ideas anyone?

Well I just recently replaced the VGA cooler on my x1900 Video card. From stock to the VF1 Plus.

I did this because i thought my GPU was over heating when i played very simple 3D games (Team Fortress 2 specifically) While its playing the FPS is fine around 80-100 FPS but after a few minutes it would shut off my PC the fans would rev up and my monitor light would go from green to yellow.

After I switched the temps are much lower... I get about 85 Fahrenheit after i switched (thats idle temp)

BUT the problem still persists when i play any even mildly straining 3D game (HL2 Ep 2). The thing is im confused as to what the problem is because the HDD has been known to shut off when i access certain data sometimes.

More specifically i reinstalled TF2 to see if that would work but instead it did the same thing but this time when i restarted the PC (by holding the power button as i do every time this happens) it "Strongly reccomended a disc check" i skipped because ive been through this before many times with this Hard Drive..

ANOTHER possibility could be the PSU because well its not the best in the world and ive read that this happens with low end PSUs

(my PSU: Suntec 680 Watt ATX Power Supply support Serial ATA SATA)

It is a very old HDD and that could very well be the problem but i could have installed the cooler incorrectly as i have never actually done that before. But im about 75% sure that i did it right!!!

I also used CCC to test for artifacts ... Read more

A:PC shuts off after a few minutes

How did it work with the stock cooler?

As your PC plays games like TF2 and HL2, it will overheat. As it overheats, the computer will consume more power to cool it down. This wears on the PSU, and it could cause the video card to turn itself off.

Try getting a new powersupply and a liquid cooling system, so it doesnt have to use so much power.

Almost every single time I open up the internet I get a message saying the Internet Explorer has experienced a problem and needs to close down. This sometimes happens every 5 or 10 seconds. I've noticed for some time that my relatively new ~1 year Lenovo Flex 4 yoga, which has switchable graphics, has been running slower.  For instance, VLC has been unable to run certain movies, and running gameshow to record my powerpoint talks now leads to freezing and inability to save movies.  I finally found some free time to try a very basic 3D game (broforce, the overworld, 2 seconds into the game), and then my computer instantly slowed and shut itself off.  I downloaded the Heaven Benchmark 4.0 and the same issue occured, it barely rendered graphics and then froze.  I have all of the latest drivers and updates installed via a clean install.   Put simply, my computer is now completely unable to perform the most basic tasks that seem to be gpu related without slowing to a crawl and shutting itself off.  This includes very old games, new games, benchmarks, and even python rendering medium to large images.   Please please advise some tests I can do to see if this is a software issue.  I work a very very very hard job and this computer is my lifeline, and I need it not to have this issue.

We've recently gotten this Flex 5 laptop with Windows 10 and we were trying to connect it to our old Panasonic TH-42PX80U TV through HDMI. The laptop detects the TV, and if I play a video the audio plays through the TV, but there is no picture.I don't have a 2nd HDMI device to test to see if the laptop's port is bad. I have tested two HDMI cables, and in all the TV's ports.I've spent 2 hours changing video settings, resolutions, custom resoutions, refresh rates, updating drivers, etc and nothing has changed. I've even tried setting the TV as the main display. I got to learn the Windows + Shift + Arrow key shortcut to fix that one.My desktop connects to the TV's HDMI ports with no issue, and my DVD player connects with no issue, so I would suspect either the laptop's port, or some sort of driver issue, since Googling brings up tons of stories of issues with Lenovo HDMI ports. Is there anything else I can to do get this to work? It was a refurbished model so it doesn't get any warranty and support from Lenovo.

Just inherited an old computer.

It's a home-made job and doesn't stay on long enough for me to get very many particulars. Here's what I can get:

Asus TUSI-M mobo, 1.1 GHZ Celeron, Win 98SE. It has an external HDDR, scanner, external DVD writer and printer.

The last time this machine was used (around 6 months ago) it worked fine. Since then, there was a local power outage while the machine was off, but the modem was faulty afterwards. This was determined by a phone tech who got a dial tone back on the phones on that line by unpluging the modem from the wall.

I cranked it up today and everything seemed normal -- including a normal POST, but about two minutes after startup, the computer shut down. No error messages, it just went off.

It seems to need to wait a few minutes before it'll turn back on, then, the same shut down.

It doesn't seem to be OS-dependent as it will do the same thing if I'm looking at the BIOS settings. Due to the short wait before it will start up again, I was thinking about some kind of temperature problem, but the posu fan works and according to the BIOS hardware monitor, the cpu fan is working and the cpu only reaches around 114 degrees during the time the computer stays on. The BIOS is supposed to give error warnings if it finds problems with hardware operating parameters. No errors or warnings are generated.

Finally, I reset the BIOS to default values -- to the same shutdown resu... Read more

I get told on my Windows Live Messenger Troubleshooter that it could be Firewall or Proxy issues. But I don't now how accurate that is. The CONNECTION itself is fine, but it tells me something about an issue with a port.

Does anybody have an idea what could be causing this and what I can change to get my internet to stay up?

I have recently custom built a computer. Intel i5 3.3GHz, 8gig RAM, Windows Vista Home Basic: SP2, solid state harddrive, GeForce GT 640, 750w powersupply

It's running great, but the computer shuts down after running for 30 minutes. Existing threads hint at overheating. So I checked on the temperatures to find that everything is holding steady around 40 degrees C.

My only hunch is that it's some type of windows restriction (they had locked my vista key when I went to get this computer up and running this computer. and eventually helped me through the install after a phone call. Could the shut downs be related to this?)

Any other ideas?!

Hello,

I started another topic but closed it after I thought a local shop could fix it. Turns out they couldn't.

What I'd like to do now is rebuild the hard drive. Luckily I have a second, smaller hard drive still in the PC that I imaged when I installed this drive a few months ago. So I just need to figure out how to copy the last few months of data off the drive, then rebuild it.

The problem is that the PC is still infected with a virus that causes it to shut down after 2 minutes, so I only get a few minutes to work on it before it reboots.

Any ideas on how to stop the shutdown? Running shutdown /a in the command line didn't work.

I think I know how it got to this point, but don't know where or how to start fixing it.

I let my computer build up dust and now my fans won't turn on when the computer does. After it does the initial loading and updating of my computer apps after powering the pc up, it only takes a few minutes before it turns back off.

A:Computer Shuts off after several minutes

If there aren't any cooling fans working, it'll get hotter and hotter in the case and, in this instance, the temperature is probably breaching a trigger point in BIOS. When this happens, it turns off the PC to prevent heat-related damage. You should replace the fans, make sure the CPU heatsink and fan are clear of dust by using compressed air to blow away anything clogging them, and then use the compressed air to clean out any other dust still in the case.

My specs are in my spec icon, I recently had problems going through the BSOD every 15-30 minutes. After dropping a lot of processes from around 75-80 to 60 i havent had BSOD since.

But now i have just installed my new PSU and i decided to overclock once more, but the intel heatsink just doesnt work as well as it use to and my CPU temperatures climbed to above 70c so I put everything @ factory clocks only changing the memory voltage to 2.1V.

after going from OC'ing to factory clocked COD WaW crashes every 15-25 mins online...and world in conflict shut down on me within 2 mins when playing. it just completely powers down and i power it up again and windows does not give me an error message to report. i will do a memtest by end of the day...also i just updated my Bios and I'm up-to-date with all known drivers, except my audio card i cant find an update for that yet.

Now i need any advice on what I need to check up on, and/or reinstall anything whether i passed the memtest or not.? thanks

Hi Gold7359
Thanks for writing to us.
When did the issue start?
Is the machine overheating?
Please disconnect the charger and the battery and hold the power button for 10 secs, now plug back everything and power on and observe.
Does the machine stays on in diagnostics mode? Run the diagnostics by tapping on f12 and select diagnostics , let the test run and observe if it stays on for more than 10 minutes.
Do provide us your system tag#, email address and name via private message,by clicking on my name in blue and then select send a private message

Hi,
first sorry for my english but i'll try to explain my problem anyway:
i got friends laptop (HP G61-410SA) which was completely dead. The battery for this laptop was dead before.Suddenly he unpluged power source from the socket while laptop was runing and after that he was unable to switch it on again.I checked first power adapter by multimeter,it shows correct voltage (14vdc-inner and 19vdc-middle), so i've decided to change motherboard (HP spare 577997-001).Got used one on ebay, changed it,checked vents/heatsink if it has any dust inside, cleaned, applied thermal grease as should be,assembled, switched laptop on,everything seemed goes well but after few minutes (3/5min) laptop shuts down.On every next try to switch on,time it keeps on,goes shorter and shorter.Seems like owerheat but vent is spinning normaly, without load, just normal, for start it spins faster after some short time goes to normal silent state but not stops at all,so it seems ok,tried to reseat heatsink and so on,just to ensure.Next what i did are i've removed componnents one by one, hard disk drive,cd-rom,one ram modules, tried to swap ram modules, got another one ddr2,reset cmos, set bios to safe defaults, nothing helped. Then got another power adaptor, same thing, even changed cpu,no way.Even if i will go to BIOS and leaving laptop in that state for a while it does the same thing, after 3/5 minutes goes off. What is very strange,i can't switch laptop on at all with battery removed, only on dc power cord, never had lapto... You seem to have done everything bar what I would have done first!

Change the power supply! All problems started with it, so that's what I'd have changed first

I have a Toshiba satellite M65-S821, 9 moths ago I added an extra 1GB of DDR RAM, 2 month later the laptop started to turn off when using software like Corel draw or photoshot with big files, but that was not something regular. In the last month this problem was growing and now my computer turns off after max 3 minutes.

I have removed the DDR and swithced places with the original one (all the possible combinations) with and without the new RAM , Only with the new RAM etc.

I have succeded to format the main HDD partition and tried to flash the BIOS with a update but I cannot finish this operation because the laptop turns off after max 3 min.

Did annyone had the same problem?

Thanks , in advance.

Is the laptop overheating? Have you tried removing the battery and running only off the AC adapter? Does the laptop still shut off? This may be caused by a failing motherboard

Computer unexpectedely turns off after ~20 minutes whether I'm using it or not. Previously had issues where the screen would not display anything when computer was turned on. Reinstalled Windows 10 and would get video sometimes. Installed graphics card from an old HP computer ( GeForce 8300GS). Not sure if it's fully compatitble but it did give me video again. Tried replacing PSU with a CORSAIR CX series CX600 600W 80 PLUS BRONZE Active PFC ATX12V & EPS12V Power Supply. Still getting the issue of a random shut down.

@Becom2468, welcome to the forum. The symptoms that you are describing sound like a heat problem.  You should give the computer a thorough cleaning inside of the case and out.  The fans should be cleaned with a small brush to assure they are working properly.

Windows 7 shuts down monitor after about 30 minutes when not in use.
A) I do not have a screen saver or use blank
B) In power management I have selected Balanced (recommended) and
B1) I have set Turn of display to NEVER
B2) I have set Put the computer to sleep to NEVER

So why is it insisting to turn my display off until I move the mouse. This is silly.

A:Windows 7 shuts down monitor after about 30 minutes

When you look at your settings, does it still say Never for turning off the display?

Hi everyone, my problem is that my newly built computer wont stay on long enough to install windows, the farthest i have gotten is the first time it started, I got to formatting the hard drive and it got to about 7 percent before shutting down. After that it just shuts off randomly after a minute or two. The weird thing is, is that while i am in bios it will stay on indefinitely, that is, if the computer doesent turn off before that. I have already reseated my processor, i took it out cleaned it and heatsink with iso alcohol and applied artic silver 5. I would really appreciate any help. My specs are:

cm stacker stc-to1
coolmax 650w
amd athlon 4000+
evga 7800gtx
asus a8n32-sli deluxe
2 gigs corsair xms
western digital 250gb sata
creative soundblaster x-fi platinum
two vantec fans and about 4 others

A:New build just shuts down after a couple minutes

Did you put your sata on RAID? Put your SATA in SATA1 and try again.
Take 1 stick of memory out and try again, do same to sound card.

Hello,

I have a custom built pc that was built for me around 2002. Its had its days but is still a pretty good computer. Since about from the beginning of 2009 it began to just randomly shut down. At first I would be able to hit the power button and the computer would turn on immediately. However - now it takes around 15 minutes for it to "cool" down before its able to be turned on. In addition, i have to turn the main power button in the back of the computer off before im forced to wait 15 minutes for it to turn on again. I have tried clicking the power button in the back, back and forth and then try the power button in the front but all i get is just a small enough jolt of energy to get the motherboard light on before it poops out again.

After success, my computer will stay on ranging anywhere from about 45min to most of the day...but i can only assume its going to get worse until it will never turn on again.

Im thinking this is a problem with the power supply? Thank you all for your help!

I would suspect the power supply first.....then maybe overheating CPU......check the heatsink isn't glogged with dust and the fan is working correctly.

I am the owner of a new Compaq Presario SR1930Z. When I use the computer it turns of sporattically. It happens whenever I am working on it and I loose everything that I am working on.

HP Tech Support told me that it is probably a software problem and that I need to do a Recovery. Sometimes it even happens when I have the computer on and am not working on it. Once in a while it stays on longer than 10 min., but then eventually just shuts off.

I have checked the Control Panels and my computer is not set to shut off at a certain time. About one month ago someone installed Quick Books on it. I had a shut down problem about 2X after this but now it happens all the time.

Thank you

Every time I boot my computer, the internet is working fine and shows no signs of anything wrong, but after loading so much (several minutes of a youtube video, or just idle data coming in from other sites I'm on) it just comes to a halt and nothing can get through. At first, I thought that this was my school's internet being bad since I had just moved back into the dorms today. The problem with that is that I seem to be the only one having a problem like this. After so much time, depending on how much bandwidth I'm using (I think, this is just based on observation), it just drops the internet completely and won't start again until I reboot.

I've checked over and over and I'm sure that I've got everything the school requires me to run, and I get no notification that I'm doing anything wrong, so I figure it isn't denial of service from the school, and have also checked in with tech support and they didn't say my account was flagged, but they don't know what's wrong either. What I've found so far is that I can't seem to get an IP address after the service stops, but I don't know how I could connect that to anything. If someone could help, I'll post any logs you need, I just don't know what the appropriate programs for that would be.

A:Internet connection shuts down after 10-15 minutes

I am assuming that you have Windows 7 or Vista.

There are (at least) three possible causes of this behavior: corrupted security application, driver, or stack.

What, if any, non-Windows firewall or security suite is on the machine?

Make sure you have the latest network driver (from your PC manufacturer's web site if they supply it). If you already have the latest driver use Device Manager to uninstall it; restart and let Windows discovery the adapter and reinstall the driver.

(From a JohnWill post)

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start - All Programs - Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

While I am working on my computer, my screen moved several times from left to right and after few seconds turned off and turned on after few seconds.
And that happens every 10-15 minutes!

What can I do about it?? I have a new screen that I bought 1 month ago!
Thank you!

A:My screen is moving and shuts down every 10 minutes

this occurs due to disk activity plz reset spin down timer
Change scheduled tasks to occur less frequently (see the "More Information" section for a specific item pertaining to Windows Millennium Edition).
Reduce or increase timer settings in applications to prevent disk activity
