Preferred Solution: Can't access Server after using VPN over the weekend!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

On Windows7 Pro,  trying to run IIS.  The way I am used to execute is  on the browser "localhost".  I used to have the code in the directory  C:\inetpub\wwwroot.   Even before I copy,  I am hoping to see
the image IIS welcome page.  Once it is successful, want to copy the code as that was the way I used to do in Window XP.    However I am getting the following message.  I have administrator access to the machine and gave full permissions
to the folder  'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'.  Still the same message.
Error message 401.3: You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied (access denied due to Access Control Lists). Ask the Web server's administrator to give you access to 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'.

Can someone help me to address this issue.  Thanks a lot in advance.

I have a Access 2000 database residing on one sever and an installation of SQL Server 2008 residing on another. Both servers are running Windows Server 2003. I created a linked server using the code below. When I run EXEC sp_tables_ex 'PropCont' I get the following,
"OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: The provider did not give any information about the error.].
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_tables_ex, Line 13
OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error."

I tried changing the code to specify my account information, which has Administrative privileges on the domain and I get,
"OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80040e4d: Authentication failed.].

"1. Open SSMS

3. Double click the provider (Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0)

Hi there
Why does Windows Networking always seem to hose things up ( Linux works EVERY time)

I have two computers on the SAME test private LAN one Whitehorse (W2003 server) and the other Blackdog (W8 Enterprise) both enabled "Shareable and Visible".

View from W2003 -- can see and access disks C,D, and F on W8 Computer

View from W8 - Networking shows the computer Whitehorse (W2003 server) but can't access any disks etc (or even its printer). PING even fails but W8 obviously knows it's on the Network because its found it. The stupid Windows diagnostics when you click Diagnose doesn't help at all --in fact I've NEVER found the network diagnostic panel of the slightest bit of help ever.

I've switched off firewalls etc while testing so there's no security rubbish to take care of while I'm trying to get this to work. LAN is purely LOCAL -- no computer is on "the other side" of a router.

Both machines can access independently the Internet through a Local router and connections are via LAN cable so nothing should be simpler. !! But can I get this to work !!.

I had a similar problem with W7 but it seemed to "Disappear" without me actually doing anything -- the proverbial "Ghost in the Machine" I expect.

Screenshots enc.

(Windows Networking Grrrhhhhhh! -- I'm not particularly technical with this stuff but any time I've used Networking with Linux it works STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX and there's no problem sharing from or to windows. !... Read more

Assuming this Windows 8 Enterprise machine isn't locked down with Group Policy.

This type of problem usually requires that you change the lanman server parameters in order to get Windows 8 working with older servers. Do these adjustments on the Windows 8 machines that needs to connect to the server.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

Reboot all machines after making the adjustment.

There are two separate settings for disabling the 128 bit encryption.

Hi all, I have a Gateway cx200x Tablet pc. It all started when my stylus quit working.MS support told me that all I have to do is download sp2 and reinstall it. I did just that. Now I have this NTLDR is compressed. I have read every thing I could to find out to fix this but to no avail. I do not have a full copy of XP. Just the recovery cds. I do however have a older copy of xp from a computer I bought 4 years ago. I do not have a floppy drive. I do have a usb flash drive. I put 3 files on the flash drive.(boot.ini, NTDETECT and one other NT file. I wasnt sure I could use files from an older version of xp for boot purposes or not. I went into my bios and made the usb storage stick the 1st to boot and removable device 2nd and cdrom 3rd. I dont think it worked booting from the flash drive. I tried using the tablet pc recovery cds and trying reinstall with backup. Still compressed. I tried using the older xp cd recovery and it says setup cannot detect any hard drives installed. I can however use the flash drive in combination with the older xp cd and I can get to the c prompt. I have done fixmbr, fixboot, chkdsk. still compressed.I cannot get into safemode. My bios is detecting my hard drive. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!!! Also when at c prompt I have done the

Does not work either.

Sigh, here I am again. With another problem. This time, my moniter wont turn on at all. Usually, the power light is green when its working fine, orange when its off. This time however, its always orange, with no picture whatsoever on the screen. The pc though, works fine with one of the spare moniters that I have.

I have tried a spare wire, nothing. Tried to hook it up to another computer, same problem.

I hope I dont have to buy another one since I love this one.

P.S. The make is "Mag Innovision"

Model numbers are something along the lines of : LT765 OR 780. Flat screen.

Thanks again.

A:Not my weekend....

If it is doing the same thing on two totally different systems, then it is probably time to break out the recording of "taps". Mag Innovision Monitors are not high end monitors. Surprizingly a monitor that I have onlyseen for sale at Walmart the KDS brand has always lasted me and given me a good quality picture. And a 17" flat screen will only cost about $100.

Hello All. After posting this morning about my other computer not finding the primary master hard drive and not booting, I find on this computer that my CD and DVD drives are not working. When I go into my computer they are not there. When I boot up they show there and when I go into my device manager they are there with the yellow exclamation warnings. I uninstall the drivers and and they go away and when I reboot they show back up with the yellow exclamation points. Any Ideas what could be wrong. I havent used my drives since last week so i dont know what could have happened. I ran spybot and adware and got rid of my crap on the system and it shows my AVG scanned this morning and found nothing. I appreciate any help I can get.

My husband and I have several email addresses for our business that were created and hosted by another party using cPanel. Unfortunately we are late in paying our bill and our emails addresses have been shut down. Is there any way to redirect them? Any other advice? We did have access to the cPanel account but looks that was access was changed too. (see attached) If I am able to obtain access again, can I transfer the email addresses somehow?

A:Can I Access Emails If My Server Access Has Been Shut Down?

what was the last part after the @ of the email
why not just pay the bill ?
if ita a domain youu own , then you can transfer to a new provider and they can also host your email - but there will be a hosting / email server charge for you on another host.

Assuming this is all via a domain name, what is your domain name ?
when does the domain name expire?

Who are you hosting with now - is it very expensive?
What country are you in

You will NOT be able to transfer the email address and all the OLD emails , just the email address may be transfered - the emails will stay on the current hosting server , and if you leave it to long , which you may have already done, they will delete all the emails anyway

Hello there,

I'm struggling with networking problems.
I have server 2003 that acts as print server, file server and VPN server.

But after some configuring for the VPN adapter (separate adapter) I can't connect to \\server (that's server real name) anymore.
BUT I can connect with it over IP (, static IP)

So I thought that the VPN adapter is conflicting with some settings and disabled it, and it didn't help.

Server is behind router and I have static IP. Router seems to be configured correctly.
I can ping the server.

What's the problem?

May it be netBIOS problem?

Hi everyone.

I need your advice...

This weekend, my Compaq M700 laptop froze. When I rebooted, I got several nasty messages saying something like immanent failure and then it proceeded to force a chkdsk on me (as it did not let me skip this scan). This took forever, as it found lost clusters and it moved here and there and it also removed some unrecoverable directories. Not good.

Anyways, after a good 4 to 5 hour later, it prompted me to log into Windows 2000.

From what I can see, it looks like it has disabled my Norton protection as I think it wiped out all of my virus protection updates. Everthing else seems OK.

I've ran the Norton Windows repair function and it found and repaired 60 problems.

I also ran Compaq's notebook diagnostic and it found a whole bunch of error codes. It also spat out the following:

- track 7045 head 23 - error code 01702001
- bios return code 0x0011
- sequential verify/seek/read & random tests failed

I'm currently running Norton speed disk to see if this will do anything.

...So here are my questions...

1) Is there anything else I should do?
2) Is there any software that I can get that will repair my hard drive?
3) Am I just wasting my time with this?...Is my hard drive completely toast?
4) Should I just invest in a new hard drive?

Any recommendations/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I am finding that when I return to my computer after it basically sat all weekend doing nothing that it suddenly doesn't have the resources necessary to even check my email. I have to reboot and then everything is fine. I noticed a few days ago that my CPU processors was running more that it should, I ran ComboFix which seemed to have solved that problem and one other (all my icons on my desktop always going to a default setting after a refresh even when I change them and am not using the default setting).

Anyway, I am wondering if there is still something going on that I can't find..

Should I post a HijackThis.txt Log and a ComboFix.txt log???

It seems likely that your Hard drive has died. Check the diagnostic lights. Run the HD test at boot.

I accidently downloaded the damned Active X link or something and it installed a couple things on my computer. At first I was getting constant pop ups telling me I was potentially infected. Every time I started IE it would automatically send me to a supposed antivirus program site. I managed to get Registry mechanic and spybot installed and run. Thats problem is fixed or seems to be, but now I see a blue flashing question mark that turns into a red shield with a white X in it. This sends me to another website. I also keep getting a system alert from it.

I'm going to include the hijack report. with follow up post.

OK, I'd consider myself an advanced user but I always learn a lot from trying to fix my own computer problems. This weekend has been another one of those times.

So, I'll give you the long story. Friday night my computer was running fine. I was trying to help a friend fix her computer over IM, and she was asking about some editing of the Registry to fix it. Basically, I accidently restored a registry backup from a long time ago onto my computer and had no very good way to get the old one back. When I restarted my computer, it went into that XP black-screen to boot loop. It wouldn't go into Safe Mode either, so I pulled out the Recovery Console on CD.

So, I remember using a nice Microsoft article to fix the registry from a backup or somehting they automagically make or something, so I was going to look for that. On the way, I was like, "Hmmm.... FixMBR.... that has to do with booting, maybe that would fix it." As you can guess, I was making too many rash decisions. So I ran FixMBR or something and it screwed up the boot area good and well. It would just post a message like "Invalid boot information" or something.

The hardware's all good and fine, I'm pretty darn sure of that. But any ideas of ways to restore the data? I mean, just by doing that the data can't be completely wiped from the drive, right? I think I could do without all the data that was on the drive, but it would be nice to recover some of it.

I have been playin... Read more

A:Bad Weekend - Partitions All Screwed Up

Go to the microsoft knowledge base article 235364. If you can get to the recovery console type bootcfg /rebuild. WXP will scan the hard drive for windows installations. Select the partition that contains the windows installation and your boot.ini file will be rebuilt.

Well I was on my front computer a lot this weekend and I would loose my internet connection every couple of hours but I could run the troubleshooter and it would fix it (reset my controller). I was very irritating, anyway after troubleshooting I thought to my self that lan cable is pretty old so I un plugged it from the back of the computer and the connections looked like it had some specs on it so I found my little wire brush and cleaned it. Guess what, no more drop outs! Just something to look for when you are having issues. I have some new Cat 7 cable coming to replace it.

At work I've been running Vista 64 for awhile and I had my birthday this week, so I talked the wife into letting me upgrade my computer. So I got a new motherboard, CPU, RAM and video card (went over budget and bought a new HD too, but SSHH, don't say anything).

Since I'm reusing my case and I wanted to minimize downtime from re-installing everything all over again on the new system and I couldn't run both at the same time, I first upgraded the video card in the old system and made sure everything worked fine. (BTW, I have a 1TB external USB drive for backup, so I did a FULL backup before I got started.) Then, I swapped in the new motherboard, CPU and RAM.

Normally, I would not recommend trying this because getting XP up and running after a swap to a different motherboard doesn't always work and requires a lot of patience and know-how if you run into driver issues and such. In my case, I bought my new MB from the same MFG as the old one and knew that most of the MB drivers were at least compatible with the new board, if out of date.

Once I got all the new hardware working with XP, I did a new backup and tested all of my required applications. I then used VMWare to create a virtual machine from the XP partition on my hard drive by restoring my working backup to a new Virtual Machine, then fixing the driver issues so that everything ran perfectly inside of VMWare. I copied the VM to my USB drive and tested it with the VMWare Player on the wife's computer and everythi... Read more

It's been awhile since I've used an Apple, I own numerous PCs. Anyways, I'm headed to a computer auction at Abilene Christian University this weekend. I'm particulary interested in this;

"Powerful G5 Powermacs with Dual 2.0GHz Processors, 1.5 GB, 150GB HD, DVD burners, and Apple Studio LCD Display!"

I haven't seen a decent price for this online. Any estimate what I should pay (limit) at an auction for it?

A:Mac Question, going to an auction this weekend

Basically look up the price of the LCD display by itself, those things are insane.

I don't really know what you should set as your limit. The tower and components themselves (minus the monitor) appear to fetch you well over $500 on ebay. Closer to 700+ it seems.

Might want to look at this auction http://cgi.ebay.com/Mac-G5-Power-PC...9|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50
it is probably about what you are looking at. $560 with 8.25 hours left, with a buy it now of $900.

Those are pretty sweet machines and will handle a lot of work, probably not so good for gaming though. I've heard they are pretty loud, and another concern is they will not be able to run Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) when it comes out, so you are going to be limited in a couple years on what new software you can run on it.

Not trying to discourage you, just providing some information you may not be aware of. I'm a pretty happy Mac user, I've got 3 Macs and 3 PCs at home.

Looking for something to do this weekend? Well, if you have a laptop and a wireless card, you can join dozens of other technophiles with time on their hands in searching out insecure WLANs.
A group of security professionals and enthusiasts later this week will kick off the second WorldWide WarDrive, a week-long coordinated effort to identify wireless LANs and assess their security levels. The first event, held in late Aug. through early Sept., drew participants from 10 states and six countries.

The second wardrive starts Oct. 26 and runs through Nov. 2.

War driving is the practice of canvassing a given neighborhood or city in search of WLANs. Practitioners typically cruise an area, armed with a notebook PC or handheld with a WLAN card and a software program, such as NetStumbler or Kismet, that listens for signals sent out by WLAN access points.

From the information broadcast by the AP, war drivers can tell if the device has WEP (wired equivalent privacy) encryption enabled and other vital information, such as the network's SSID (service set identifier).

There is nothing illegal about simply identifying such networks but connecting to them and using bandwidth and network resources for free is a crime. Which is why the organizers of the WWWD are careful to point out that they do not connect to any of the networks they find. In fact, the group's Web page lists instructions on how to avoid connecting to a network inadvertently.

Those behind the event say the... Read more

I have a problem to access file server on Windows Server 2000 from a Windows 7 PC. For your information, due to some reasons, both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are in different domain.

I have tried all suggested solutions which are :
i. to unchecked both attributes in 'Network Security : Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC)' for both clients and server.
ii. to apply 'Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated' in 'Network Security : LAN Manager authentication level'
iii. to make sure the time setting for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are the same.

But still, i couldn't access the file server. In fact, each time I entered domain\username to authenticate, it will give out this message :

Since I am kinda new to this troubleshooting things, it would be great if someone can tell me why does this happening. Is it because of the different domain?

thanks in advance.

A:Windows 7 unable to Access file server on Windows Server 2000

To connect to the server you would need to enter the credentials of the domain user on the server that would have access. For example if the domain was 'home' with a user 'Josh' then I would put:

As the username. If you want to get advanced you could try and form a trust with the other domain in active directory so that the other domain has permission to access the server

Hi guys,

Not been on these forums long but have been reading all your advice and tutorials ahead of a W7 install this weekend.

Intention was to follow barefoot kids advice and create a new partition to the left of my vista os on my c: and then install 7 to it and dual boot till I'm happy with W7 and then remove, erase and reclaim vistas space for 7

Ahead of this I investigated macrium reflect to image c: first as I thought this was a sensible plan. Followed super helpful bid tutorial here and set my c:/ image off and was browsing this forum when I got a cyclic redundancy check error and macrium failed. It suggested I run chkdsk /f /r so I elected my cmd and did so on a restart.

4 bad clusters found and fixed. Free space verification (stage 5 of 5 still running - 47% complete). No other issues found so far.

So. How bad does this sound? Is my hdd about to throw it's toys out the pram or ar 4 bad clusters nothing to worry about?

Hey guys, pretty new to the forum but really like the help I've gotten so far!

I came out to the computer Sat. morning and found one of those fake spyware detected messages in my toolbar. It really slowed down the computer and made it pretty much useless.

Not that big of a deal to me, I have my own computer and laptop that are just fine. This is the kids computer and who knows what they clicked on when I wasn't looking. Anyway, I ran combo fix and it seems to be doing much better now, but would appreciate someone going over the log file and helping me with anything else that needs to be done and how to do it as I don't have much experience with this.

Thank you in advance.

1)I am working with a text file. In my PHP, I have exploded the contents of that text file, and inserted its contents into an array. One of the fields of this array is the date that the particular record was written to the text file. I just need to know how to sort the array by that date(which in the array is $line[0].

2)I need an overview for to how to make a login page. There will only ever be two accounts logging in here(this is for a school project) - a user account and an admin account. I have already written the pages that each account will access, I just need to know how to write a login page where you type adminusername and adminpassword to access the admin pages and username and userpassword to access the user pages. And the password needs to be encrypted. If you could direct me to some actual examples of PHP code for a page like this, that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

A:Two PHP Questions - Need Answers ASAP(By Weekend)

Focusing just on the array sort I mentioned above...here is the code I have for the page so far, but the sort isn't working. I'm not even sure how it's supposed to work since all the records from the text file are never in the same array together....there's a loop that makes a one-dimensional array for each record every time through, so I'm not sure how I'm supposed to sort those records when they're never really in the same array together. Again, what I want to happen is, when the contents of the array are all outputted into the dynamically created table, I want them to be sorted by the date in which they were written to the text file(the date is in [0] of the array) from most recent to least recent. I know that what I have here for the sort shouldn't work, but I just don't know what to do to make it work.

Hi all,

I built a new computer a couple of months back and it worked without issues. I have the latest Windows 7 updates installed. I also updated my graphics card drivers (ATI 4670) with the latest release from the manufacturer website.

Anyways, this weekend I have had about 7-8 BSOD's with a variety of error codes, ranging from IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL to SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION to PFN_LIST_ERROR. I ran memtest86+ 1.70 (couldn't get 4.00 to boot for some reason) for about 3 hours and there were no errors reported. I believe the issue happens when I am attempting to view streaming video on the internet, since the computer does not have any issues while idling.

I thought the problem may be a side effect of KB976098 which was the most recent update installed before the computer began BSOD-ing, but even uninstalling that hasn't rectified the problems. I have attached my crash dumps. Any help would be appreciated!

A:Frequent BSODs started this weekend

Install the latest driver for your video card from ATI's site.

Flash only works in x86 browsers so make sure you're using the x86 version of I.E. with the latest flash install from Adobe's website.

Or use any x86 browser and install latest flash for that.

Update these drivers or alternatively, uninstall from the system if not important to the system:

LMIRfsDriver LMIRfsDriver.sys Mon Jul 14 12:26:56 2008
RaInfo RaInfo.sys Fri Jan 04 13:57:14 2008
Update your Truecrypt to latest version.

Also, if you have AVG I can not stress the importance enough to completely uninstall that. It is absolutely the most horrific piece of junk ever. I must have fixed 20 or 30 machines with it by having users uninstall, all within the last week or so.

Follow my lead here with my recommendations and your pc will be good as new.

Hi, just a heads-up for UK computer users. If you have the UK banking recommended software Rapport installed there was an invisible update over the weekend. The update changed the program name to "Trusteer Endpoint Protection" 3.5.1302.54

This has caused a few issues over the weekend. If your computer has shown problems with log off/shutdown (or, for older computers, problems at startup) then you may want to unisntalled Rapport/Trusteer to rule it out.

If you have problems uninstalling Rapport/Trusteer one simple way around this is to do a system restore to BEFORE the Rapport update:-
1. disconnect from the internet
2. (run restore in safe mode if you have problems in normal mode). Uninstall the original Rapport
3. reconnect internet

Okay so this past weekend I spilled some coke onto my laptop and immediately unplugged the laptop and took out the battery and rested it on a towel and waited a day for it to dry out. After I turned it on it started beeping for a while, and then finally started up, looked normal, and then everything works fine, it is just that the keyboard is broken (pressing many of the keys results in 0's, /'s, and ,'s. Instead of what they should be).

After researching what to do it seems I should have rinsed out my laptop right then since you do not what the sugar and other minerals corroding your motherboard/internals of your laptop.

I was just wondering if you think I should rinse out my laptop now? Or basically any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks everyone!
