Yoga 530 shuts down (hibernate) at 5%battery

Q: Yoga 530 shuts down (hibernate) at 5%battery

Hello, My yoga 530 is set to hibernate when battery is 5%. The settings are in "advance setting for energy savings"; then you can choose for some particular battery states to start a function. For the state "battery about to die (5%)" (i'm translating from italian, don't know if it's the same) i can choose only from 3 options: 1) shut down 2) hibernate 3) sleep. The problem is that when my PC is at 5% i just want it keep on, i don't want it to shut down or even sleep or hiberante. How can i do that?thanks in advance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I concect the charger, and turn it on - the battery gauge always states 0%.  why did this start happening - is ther something I can do, or do I need to get it to a lenovo center? thanks,Nir

Hi, I'm having issues with my Thinkpad L380 Yoga. The battery loses approx. 8% overnight, when its in hibernate mode.Any suggestions how to solve this? Is this a software error or hardware? I already turned off all wake timers, windows fast startup, powered USB-port when off, wake on lan etc.Updated all drivers, tried previous BIOS v.1.18. Also turned off the chariging treshold in Lenovo Vantage, as I read it could cause the problem. Cheers,Jannik

Hi, my Yoga 720 decided that it should shut down when in battery mode. According to the windows system logs Kernel-power had a critical error. I tried to update BIOS to the latest version, but that failed as during the installation it stated that the battery is missing. Anyone have any tips, or should I contact the store where I bought it? RegardsAnders

I'll try and explain this one best i can. User came to me with their Yoga 15 with an issue where it randomly shuts down on battery power, as in completely switches off.  It sometimes displays a message to say the battery cannot be detected, other times just shuts down. The conclusion I've found is that when the bottom panel is off the machine the battery is completely detected in Windows, and the Lenovo Settings app. It runs fine, never cuts off even with lots of IE instances open.As soon as I put the bottom panel back on the battery appears to be disconnected in Windows, and it also shows it not charging. Intermittently it also states the battery power is low or not detected when booting up. Found that there's a battery / system reset button on the underside that may be the cause of the issue. Pressing this button with the underside of the Laptop off resets the machine entirely, I believe it's the battery reset button incase the machine ever gets stuck at any point (as by rights it's a non-removable battery and there's a small pin hole on the case over this button). Works flawlessly without the bottom case in place, as soon as I re-connect it when the unit is on Battery power I loose the battery status in the Lenovo Settings app. The machine will then randomly shut down. Any thoughts on this one, it's the strangest thing. Many thanks all.

A:Lenovo Yoga 15 - shuts down on battery

When you put the panel back, is it touching/blocking any wires?
Have you tried to do a factory reset? If everything works fine then, try updating drivers one by one to see if it comes back.

Recently my Lenovo Yoga 720 15-IKB has started shutting down after a few minutes when on battery. It's fine when I use it plugged in. But once I unplug it and it's using battery (even when fully charged), it will consistently turn off after a few minutes. Nothing has changed that I know of since this started happening. It just seemed to start doing it one day. It hasn't been dropped or anything, it hasn't even left the house. I read around a bit and saw the recommendation to update the BIOS. So I've attempted to update the BIOS via the official Lenovo support page but run into an issue and it can't complete. It has me download 4mcn33ww.exe and kicks off Insyde H20FFT (Flash Firmware Tool). The process appears to run as expected until it turns off the laptop to restart and once it boots back up with the screen black, a red message states "Warning: No Battery Connected, This process requires AC power and a charged battery to avoid accidental power-off during an update". I attached a photo of what I see. I, of course, have the laptop plugged in during this process so I'm not sure why it says that. And prior to starting the BIOS update, Windows states the laptop is, in fact, charging/plugged in.  At this point I'm stuck. The only potential fix I've found online is to update the BIOS, but I can't update the BIOS due to the AC power error it seems. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello. I have a 3yr old Toshiba Satellite laptop that I use every day, on avg. 8 hrs per day for school. The battery used to last about 2.5 hours without needing charging. In the past couple weeks, it only seems to last about an hour before needing to be charged.

Even more troublesome is its action when the charge is gone. I have set the power settings to pop up a notification message at 22% battery level and take no action, then at 10% battery level, pop up another message THEN go in to hibernate. However, last week it would give me only about 20 seconds' notice of a critical battery level, then it would hibernate. It wouldn't give me any notice before the critical level.

Now, it has taken to just hibernating, with no warning notice whatsoever. I could keep it plugged in all the time, but my concern is there's something more at issue that will get worse over time. I don't need any crashes at finals time.

Any suggestions? Could the battery need replacing? Thanks.

Hi,
I recently updated to Windows 10 and immediately downgraded again to Windows 8.1 Pro. Prior to going to Windows 10, everything worked perfectly with my Dell XPS 9333, and afterwards I have been having a few problems. The largest and most annoying is when
I choose to Hibernate, it shuts down my laptop. Sleep mode is generally OK, but it has been buggy a few times. This is a real pain as I travel a lot for my work and I am restarting the computer 10 times a day and losing a lot of information!
I have removed and reinstalled the video driver, downgraded the Bios from V8 to V6, and tried practically every permutation to get it working again, with no luck. As mentioned, everything was perfect prior to the Windows 10 install.

I have had this HP dv 2045dx with windows 7 premium home edition for a little less than a year now and since I've had I have not been able to hibernate.

I have gone through every tutorial about typing in the correct command to enable hibernation and after I did all of this hiberfil.sys exists and the registry says hibernation is enabled however I still recieve the same behavior. I belive I have tracked the problem to a registry key: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Power

I've loooked at this key for win 2000 and some other places on the internet and they say there is supposed to be a heuristics value which is not there.

They also seem to have non-zero values for HiberCompressTime, HiberCopyBytes, HiberCopyTime, ...etc. All of which for me is zero.

I have checked and made sure none of my devices are keeping the computer running through Device Manager

I have disabled the ability for programs to keep my system running in the registry.

I have changed the power settings to what I thought might work then back to the default many times.

All of these fixes still result in the same behavior of my computer locking and turning off the monitor but not hibernating.

Hibernate is probably one of my fav things and I miss it terribly. could anyone offer any advice as to how to get it fixed.

included is the aforementioned key.

A:Hibernate Simply locks computer and shuts off Monitor

I did not restart my computer after I changed which partition was active.

I am dual booting with ubuntu but the boot loader is in ubuntu not win 7. I am afraid to restart with the system partition marked as active just in case this stops me from booting through ubuntu.

Will this be a problem? should I change the system partion to active even though this does not change the hibernation behavior?

Dell E6500 - few years old.  Now shuts down after closing the lid after several hours - at least when left closed over night - even when on AC power.
This behavior is new as for the longest time it would simply go to sleep as desired.
The close lid behavior is still set to sleep.    It must power down hard because when I lift the lid in the morning, Windows 7 wants to recover from unexpected shutdown.

Again, this happens after the lid is closed for some time while on AC power.   Frustrating as it is used to sleep and would wake up when I needed it to.

Hi,
Please visit www.support.dell.com and download and install the latest video drivers and BIOS for your system from the Drivers and Downloads page. You must select the correct version of Operating System and then update relevant drivers.
Alternately, you can also click on the link mentioned below for the Drivers & Downloads Home page  :
http://dell.to/QjjZDA
Please ensure you do not have any external devices like a Printer, external hard drive, etc. connected to the system when updating BIOS. Also, please remove any dvd disks which may be in the DVD Drive prior to the BIOS update. The AC Adapter must be connected to the system during the update.
Hope this helps resolve the issue for you.
Please reply in case you have any further queries.

Hi there,

I've had problems with my HP laptop ever since I got it with it shutting down after 2-3 hours of sleeping. Not a battery issue since it still happens while plugged into mains. Also, whenever I try to hibernate, it shuts down instead.

When I turn it on again after it shuts down (regardless of sleep or hibernation), it says (paraphrased) "Windows was not shut down correctly, please choose: Normal boot, Safe Boot, etc." I've searched google and these forums but to no avail.

Any suggestions on where to start looking for a solutions?! I'd like to avoid a re-installation if I can...

My laptop is 2 years old and within the last 2 months, low battery notifications have stopped popping up, and the laptop shuts down without warning. Within the last week it has been shutting off after 10-20 minutes after I take the power chord out, and the battery never goes above 98% juice.  There's no error messages, and when I looked at the power options, it was set to turn off on 7%, as it has been since I bought it. I haven't updated anything on the laptop since then (it's a laptop purely for Word documents but occasionally I used it for streaming TV when my TV broke) and nothing else out of the ordinary has been happening to it.  I'm incredibly bad at figuring this sort of stuff out by myself, and Googlling it only gave me more confusion because it seems there could be a number of things wrong.  No troubleshooting seems to have helped or given an adequate reason for it, so I'm at a loss at the moment.

I may be losing my mind, but I'm 95% sure that I'm experiencing intermittent battery drain while in hibernate mode. For example, I worked all day yesterday with my laptop (Compaq CQ40) plugged in and hibernated with the the power at 100%. I had saved my work, but left three Word docs, two Excel docs, and one Project file open to avoid having to re-open them all to complete a writing assignment. About 4.5 hours later I re-started my laptop to view a movie on my flight, and the batter level was down to 42%!

I think this behavior started within the last 2-3 weeks. I didn't think this was possible! Is there some phantom process running while in hibernation? Ideas?

Confused.

When I close the lid on my T40 (goes in to standby mode) it will not restart. I have to remove the battery and the AC supply then replug the AC and press the Power button. It then does a complete restart. This also happens if I use Hibernate (FN+F12) or Standby (FN+F4). I have checked the BIOS and upgraded to the latest version from the IBM/Lenovo website. The battery is fine and not part of the IBM recall. I can use the T40 on battery power. However, it WILL NOT boot from battery either!!

I've tried all the advice from the IBM website so am now turning to the experts. Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this. It is getting annoying.

I have an Acer Aspire S7 ultrabook (see system specs). I recently changed my SSD from the original 128GB in a RAID 0 to a Crucial MX200 500 GB in AHCI mode. I reloaded Windows 8 from recovery disks after changing to AHCI mode in BIOS. I've reloaded a few key Acer programs and updated all drivers. The computer works well and there is no appreciable change in performance in the new AHCI mode.

However, one change I have noticed is that the laptop is slow to go into hibernation when on battery. When connected to AC power it takes about 7 or 8 seconds to hibernate. When on battery power it takes 75 seconds or so. The computer comes out of hibernation to the login screen in less than 5 seconds whether on AC or battery - fast either way.

The laptop used to hibernate in seconds prior to reloading Windows so I know it can be done, I just can't figure out what's causing the delay now. I have made several changes in the power settings to know avail. I disabled the Acer Power Management service with no change. It seems like the computer is waiting for something to timeout but I can't figure out what.

Any suggestions on what to look for that might be causing the delay?

Thanks.

Hello brain trust. - I purchased a Yoga c930 for my daughter to use at college and I noticed that after shutting down (using windoes shut down, not sleep mode), the battery will deplete down to around 25% after sitting totally off for just 4 days. I've tested this a couple of times and it's consistent. In addition, it will then fully charge after around 45 minutes on the charger, even though the charge icon in the systray says it will take around double that time I've not used it enough to check the battery life in use, but since my Dell laptop will fire up after going weeks and weeks without a charge, there seems to be something wrong with this machine if it's depleting the battery like that while totally shut down. Any suggestions on what to check or how to diagnose why this is happening?  Thanks in advance

I always used to be an HP customer and thought would give it a go with Lenovo so I got myself a Yoga 910. I am out of warranty, called support and have been quoted $1500 AUD for  anew motherboard which is not even on stock and no one in their right mind would give that sort of money for such a piece of garbage. The symptoms:It started a random day out of the blue. When the battery was around 30% I plugged in the charger and the laptop started acting as if I was periodically at every second unplugging and replugging the DC adapter meanwhile the charging led was blinking at the same frequency every second. I heard the plug in sound and the screen became brighter every 2 seconds. Unfortunately even when the laptop was turned off itwasn't charging the battery at all so after experimenting with all possible solutions with uninstalling and deactivating charging drivers which didn't work my battery was fully drained and now my premium looking laptop is pretty much good to be thrown out. I know it has nothing to do with sleep mode and all or other software related settings. It's not a charger issue because I tried another charger and another power socket as well. It's not a contact issue with the charging port because it's following the same pattern no matter how I hold or don't hold the plug to the charging port. I am a Yoga 700-14ISK user for 2 years. And I had encounter serveral issues with this laptop before (and the service center helped me to fix them) However, now there is an issue I just have now - my battery is draining fast like 1% lost per 2-3 min for light usage (browsing on Chrome or doing my schoolwork either on Microsoft Office or Google Drive) I suspected it was due to my battery wear level. However, as I monitored it, I realised it keep fluctuating (from 19.64% to 42.02%) until I re-calibrate which gives me 38.51% and then 38.71% after a charge to 60%. Is it possible the battery wear level can cause the quick drain in battery?  Is this battery wear level normal? I would also like to point out that I had the battery changed over a year ago and I normally used my laptop for schoolwork and gaming (occasionally now after realising the issue.) I am also going to have an internship (at least 6 months) from July so I am very worried that my laptop can't last long especially its battery. Hence, should I go to a Lenovo service center and request for a battery replacement? Please give me any possible reasons on why the laptop battery starts to drain fast and its battery wear level sharp increase, and also possible solutions for these issues. Hi TomHG Which is the full model number of your machine? What I would try to do first is try to update the BIOS of your computer and the power related drivers just in case. But the message that is showing the problem on the BIOS (before Windows boot) it is not nice. I would try tp update the drivers with the following tools- Windows Update- Lenovo System Update- Install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion.- Check on Lenovo Support site the driver for your model. If after updating the BIOS and power drivers of your computer the problem remains there, I will recommend to contact the Lenovo Support Center. If you are still under warranty Lenovo should fix it by replacing any part. Regards

Hi everyone! Is it ppossible to buy NEW battery form my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro 13 Notebook? It uses the L12M4P21. I looked at many places but all the batteries are made in 2003 or 2004. As I know they loose their performance if they sit on the shelf for many years... Is it possible to find really newly made original Lenovo battery for my laptop?

A:I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro 13, I need a new battery... but NEW, not battery that was made in 2004!

Hi Moksa,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It may be hard to say as because of the age of the model but you can try calling in EMEA parts sales desk for your region (Hungary 30 722-37-91). On the battery sticker is also the battery manufacturer which you can try but I am not as optimistic for newer manufactured battery.

I would say that as long as they provide the standard battery one year warranty, then it would be a good option to go.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

It's either my G50-80 grew old, or because of Win10 update 1903 ?After hibernation for ~ 12 hours, my battery becomes almost empty. It is fully charged before hibernation (~10 hours plugged in).The battery itself looks healthy despite it is ~4 years old, the laptop can run off the battery for 2-3 hours. The real annoyance is that right after resume from hibernation, Windows 10 decides to hibernate again. In the event log: kernel-power, event 524 "Critical Battery Trigger Met" Dear Lenovo! Can you please explain to Microsoft that when the machine wakes up on AC power -no mater what is the battery state - Windows is NOT going to hibernate automatically!Just stay on and keep charging. Thank you in advance. -- pa

The laptop will not hibernate unless I Close the Laptop lid. I went into power options in the control panel and set hibernation to be activated when laptop was running on battery and reached low batt threshold of 20%. When the threshold is met, nothing happen.

Tried a different power management plan and configured the hibernations settings similar to the above, still nothing happened.

I dont remember running the disk clean up utility which I hear can delete the hyberfill.sys file which stops hibernation.

I went into CMD as administrator, and used the powercfg command with the

-h on switch, makes no difference, I even turned hibernation off (-h off) and then turned on again, still no difference.

Went into CMD and searched for the hyberfill.sys file in the c:\ file is present, I think its about 2GB in size.

Any ideas?

A:[SOLVED] HP Laptop will not hibernate when low/critical Battery threshold is met

An update, I think this may be battery related or perhaps even ACPI related?? Battery seems to have an issue charging, I dont remember this happening before. The power supply is working because its providing power to the laptop, but the battery wont charge.

Tried setting hibernation to turn on even when power supply is plugged in and battery is at low batt threshold, it still will not hibernate.

Only way it will hibernate is if you close the laptop lid or click on the start button and actually choose the hibernate option which is amongst the restart, turn off, sleep options.

Hi Neramusis, welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of your Thinkpad?

The only idea that I have right now is why do you try to update the drivers of you computer, specially the Lenovo Power Management Driver.

This are my tips about updating drivers on the Thinkpad:

1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers.

I know that this is "trial and error", but I think that updating the drivers may help with this issue.

Regards
