Thinkpad Yoga 260 Won't Turn On After Long Turn Off

Q: Thinkpad Yoga 260 Won't Turn On After Long Turn Off

Immediately, I use Thinkpad Yoga 260 and now have a problem when it is turned off, then the next day my laptop turns on it doesn't want to turn on again. I pressed the power button, it just turned on the keyboard light for a while then died without having time to enter bios especially into Windows (the screen didn't have time to turn on). All indicator lights are on. Some of what I did;1. Press the reset button. This once managed to make my laptop turn on again, but then it had no effect.2. Also i update all software and Bios, but still forced same problem, then,3. I disassemble the laptop, pull out some connectors such as batteries, keyboards, and more. Some of these steps succeeded, until finally the problem arose and I went to the laptop service in my city.4. There was a slight problem with the supply of electric current on the motherboard and it was successfully fixed and my laptop turned on again. However, after one day the problem reappeared after the laptop was turned off. Luckily, my service place provides a one-month guarantee. But, I have returned to the service area with the same problem (more than 5 times). According to them, my motherboard has no problems, as well as other hardware. I still don't get the cause with this problem often arises. Sometimes a laptop can turn on only by pressing the reset button or opening the battery connector or plugging in the power cord and then I wait a while while the laptop is charging, and ... my laptop is back on! But, once it was turned off for a long time (let say more than 1 hour-a day), I got the same problem again

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My laptop doesn't turn on anymore. Here is what I have to do to turn it on (I tried many sequence of steps, but this is the only one that works every time):-Disconnect battery and CMOS battery-Press power button ten times, then press and hold for 30 seconds-Connect power adaptor and press power button At this point, my laptop turns on, but I have to reset my time and date in BIOS (of course this is normal since I disconnected the CMOS batter). Once I turn my laptop on, my batter shows that it is charging and it is at 100%. I dual boot and both Ubuntu and Windows 8.1 show the batter charging at 100%.As soon as I unplug my AC adaptor, the laptop turns off again and I have to repeat the sequence above again to turn it on. This happens consistently. However, if I shutdown my laptop the right way without unplugging the AC adaptor at any point, it turns back on normally. This happens of both my Linux and Windows OS. What I've tried:-Uninstalling battery drivers and restarting my laptop-Updating to the latest power management drives from this Lenovo websiteI also read that some HP laptops have software issues that doesn't allow the laptop to switch from AC adaptor mode to battery mode. I believe this might be the issue I'm seeing, but I couldn't find a way to check this setting. I don't think this last detail is related, but when I shutdown Windows, I see a message saying:Closing 1 app and restartingAsusSGPLusBTServerThis app is preventing you f rom restartingAlo... A:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 Won't Turn On

Hi. Welcome to the forums.

I'm not sure since I haven't got this problem with my Thinkpad Yoga14 but I'm just curious if the "Emergency-reset hole" works for something on your computer, or if it does not change anything on the procedure you are doing to turn it on.

It can also be interesting if you can share the full model number of your Thinkpad Yoga 14.

Unfortunately, I got home last night, and it wouldn't turn on.  Fine; I figured that maybe the battery was dead.  Plugged it in, and still no joy, but hey, I figured maybe it wouldn't start until it hit a certain minimum charge level (a la many smartphones).  So I left it charging overnight, packed it when I went to work this morning, got here, and... it still won't start. Indicators/symptoms: The only I/O that appears to be working is the charge indicator (the small circular light next to the power button) and the power button light. If I plug in the power, the small circular light stays on (white) until I unplug it. Plugging in the power also sometimes causes the power light to turn on (again, white), and it will stay on (regardless of whether it's plugged in) until I force power-off via holding the power button. Nothing else works/responds.  The fans do not turn on, the caps lock light does not light up, the keyboard backlight can not be turned on.  Nothing.  As far as I can tell, the computer isn't even on -- only the power light.  I have tried every hotkey (and other key) on the keyboard. Disconnecting the battery didn't help either. Waited one hour on the line to talk with someone in Lenovo but after being transfered 3 times and each person asking exactly the same questions I gave up! very poor customer service!  Brought it to Lenovo certified repair center and they chose the simplest solution of repl... When I turn on the CPU and monitor, the monitor light keeps blinking for about every 3 seconds for about 5 hours (sometimes more) and then the monitor finally turns on. How long it takes for it to finally turn on depends on how long it has been turned off. One time, I turned it on after it had been off for about 30 minutes, and it only took about 15 minutes to turn on rather than 5 hours. My friend is telling me that there might be a problem with the graphics card, but the thing is, when the monitor finally does turn on, there is nothing wrong with the picture, it works perfectly; the only problem is that it takes too long to turn on.
So, what should I do to fix this problem?

However these days I had nothing to do so I thought I'd like to install windows 7 on the old PC(which was running windows XP) just for fun.I connected all the cables and then tried to turn it on.Nothing happened.More than that it started to make a weird buzzing sound.I tried to find out where this sound came from but I couldn't.I've unplugged it,took the safety precautions and opened it.I tried to see if there's something wrong with the coolers but they seemed to be alright.I also tried to remove and put back the ram stick but still nothing.
Remember that I want it to be fixed just to have some fun with it so I won't take it to a service.
Can you give me some advices?Thank you in advance!

When I press the power button on my CPU, the monitor does not switch on, nor is there a beeping noise:

At first I thought there was a fan failure, and when I opened up the case, the CPU fan was not spinning. I realised it was in the wrong way round, so I changed it the right way round. I turned on the CPU and the monitor worked momentarily, before I rebooted the computer and it stopped working again!

Then I thought the video card was the problem, but this wouldn't explain the fact that there is no beeping noise. Also I know the monitor works because i connected it to a laptop and it worked fine.

Also I'm curious that the new network card I installed could be affecting the computer because the one that failed, the internal network card is still in the CPU and I am worried this may have affected the boot up of the computer.

Another factor is the hard drive disc, (mine is an SATA according to my cousin), I am wondering if it "failed" because it makes a sort of rumbling noise when the computer starts up.

I also think the power supply itself could be a problem because the monitor only briefly came on when I sorted out the fan problem, maybe the power turned off, (but all the fans were still whirring and the lights and it was making a noise?).

Finally the last factor i am considering is the motherboard, which is an ASUS and the small print on the motherboard says ABN.SI REV1.02. I don't know any of the individual components on the motherboard, so if a... Read more

Good Job on the Hi Res photos. Does this happen after the computer posts? Do you hear any beep codes?
Take a look in your BIOS to see if you can turn off any extended tests also.
IF none of this helps, try unplugging various devices one by one and boot to possibly narrow down the issue.
PS that computer shipped with Vista or XP did the issue start after upgrading the OS?

Welcome,
There is a cause but it sounds more like a hardware problem. What have you done to try and determine what's happening? Starting in safe mode any faster? How old is the system and what are the specs - hardware and software, both names and versions.
Thanks

okay so i bought an IBM thinkpad for 40$ at the computer store i worked at. a customer sold it to us and i figured i could use having a crapper laptop around so i bought it.

it worked fine when i left with it, but about a weeka fter i got it home, this is what started happening:

Half the time when i turned it on, the screen wouldn't light up and you could tell the computer wasnt doing anything either. its like it was failing to initilize some key motheboard part or something. ( i did a RAM, HDD and CPU test and they all passed without issues)

now, it will only power on when it has been off for at least a day, and if it gets powered off, it wont turn back on untill another day has passed. when i try to turn it on, there is a light that flashes a couple times before turning solid, it looks like a circle with a big Z in it. and the battery light turns solig orange.

please let me know if anyone knows a way to fix this, would be greatly appreciated

I have tried to turn this laptop on and all the lights all blink on except the wireless light, but just very quickly and then nothing. If I try it once then it won't do that again until I unplug and re-plug it, then it repeats the same. I had just replaced the heatsink and fan, but it worked ok after that once I re-tightened everything. I got on and had updated the anti-virus and a couple other things. Turned it off for the night and then this. I have removed the memory several times and re-placed it. It snaps in and is snug. Is there anything else to try? I put the battery in yesterday and plugged it in. It charged the battery, but when I just use the battery the same thing happens. It was bought several months back for $100. I have replaced the hard drive since getting it, as well.

My IBM laptop (thinkpad T23) will not respond when I push the on button. I have it plugged into AC. The battery is not new, but still have life in it. I push the on button, the green light that normally goes on when I start it, just flashes, with no further results.
It acts like the contact between the start button and whatever it has to connect with, is not making it turn on. Everytime I push it, it makes the green "on" light flicker, but it won't stay on and boot up.
I know the OS (XP pro) is good, and it showed no signs of slowly failing. It just decided not to start one day and has been very frustrating ever since.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi all, 4 days ago my 2 year old S440 suddenly switched off when I removed the power cord. It still worked when I had the power cord plugged in. 2 days later the battery worked again and the laptop was running even with the power cord removed. So all good. Today all bad: the laptop wouldn't turn on again, even with the power cord plugged in. I tried the elsewhere described trick to push the power button at 30s intervals (even after removing the RAM and the HDD). But I still couldn't recover the machine. Status quo:I plug in the power chord (battery inside): the red light flashes 3 times, I press the power button and the red light turns on for 3 secs, then turns off, nothing else happensI remove the battery, plug in the chord, red light flashes 3 times, and a few secs later the fan starts and continues in a on-off-loopI plug in the connector of the battery: the fan moves a little bit for a secondAny ideas what's wrong or what I can do to fix this? Thanks!

Model 20DM-009GUS i bought his laptop 14 months ago, just as the year of warranty was ending I started having issues with the battery where I could only turn it on when it's plugged in. I contacted Lenovo late to find out my warranty had been out for a week so they couldn't help. I decided to deal with it as I could still use it on battery once it was on m, but now two months later I had this issue where I tried to turn it on and the keyboard light would blink on then off immediately and it doesn't turn on, not even the fan or anything. After a few attempts I got it on but once off it's happening again and I can't turn it on now. i tried unplugging the battery and doing the drain static charge thing and I saw in another topic it was a similar issue and the sw2 switch was the culprit but when I opened up the laptop there is no sw 2 switch just a square on the board that says sw2, I assumed this was a different model yoga 14. About three weeks ago I bought a Thinkpad T500. It used to run Windows Vista, but I got rid of that and added Linux Mint. When I first bought the computer it would not turn on if it was unplugged, but I figured I just needed to buy a new battery. New battery came in and it actually registers it and says it is charging, but the problem is it is stuck at 53% and I can not unplug it without it turning off. I tried looking up a solution; I unplugged and removed the battery then held on to the power button for a minute and powered it on again, but that did not work: stilled only turned on while plugged in. There was another solution that involved turing it on with the power cord and not the battery then removing the drivers for the power cord and restarting the computer, which should have it reinstall all the battery drivers, but I could not do that because I got rid of Windows Vista and I could not replicate the process in Linux Mint(I am new to Linux. Here is the video I was trying to follow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx62t6qZ34U). I did try to look for the drivers for this solutions, but the "driver manager" on Linux does not pop anything up. I am not even entirely sure if this solution will fix my problem. Not entirely sure what to do next. Any suggestions will help.

When I touch the mouse or press a key on the keyboard the display lights up a bit but nothing is displayed on the screen. The only way I can get the display up and running again is to press and hold the power button so the machine goes to sleep. I can then press the power button again and my login screen is displayed and everything works as expected. btw. I am runing Windows 10 x64 and the graphics drivers are the latest from Lenovoīs site. I am suspecting that the Intel HD P530 driver is to blame.Has anyone seen this issue and have a good idea on how to fix it?

ibm thinkpad 600e will not turn on. I think we connected it correctly to an a/c adapter, but nothing happened. Does the battery need to be good even if it is plugged in?

A:thinkpad 600e wont turn on

Well my laptop boots up with no battery on the a/c adapter. Is this a/c adapter the correct one for the unit or is it something you rigged up.If you rigged it up I hope you paid particular attention to the polarity of the pin.

Hi,  I currently have W530 which wouldn't turn on at all. Below is a little bit of background: Few months ago, the laptop started to turn off all of sudden and turn back on without any particular reason and I could never find anything in Event viewer. After sometimes, it started to do it more frequently and it came to stage where it wouldn't even go past the windows login and shut down and turn back on with continous cycle. For the above issue, I tried to plug a recovery usb stick to repair the computer and it worked fine for sometimes however it started doing the above again and at the end it would just lit up the power button for a second when I press it but nothing happens afterwards. Just before this issue, laptop passed lenovo diagnostic test aswell.Looking at this blog https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/ThinkPad-W530-not-turning-on-at-all/td-p... , I disassembled the laptop to try and push the power jack near motherboard with no luck and even unplugged and re-plugged the CMOS battery cable. It would just turn on for few seconds and turn off completly and wouldn't turn back on (just power button light for a second). I have even tried the static charge release workaround (press and hold power button for 30 seconds while battery is out and turn it back on with battery/power plug attached) as well but no luck. I have also taken out the RAM and Hard drive as well to see if there is a hardware issue. I am now left with a ... Read more

A:Thinkpad W530 wouldn't turn on

Hello,

Given that this model is now seven years old, it may be difficult to troubleshoot exactly what happened.  The progressive nature of the problem makes me think it could be some kind of component failure, perhaps relating to the power or thermal subsystems.  But it could also be an issue with the CPU itself (rare, but it happens) or the motherboard.  I would suggest starting with the more inexpensive to replace and easy to troubleshoot things.

Have you tried replacing the CMOS/RTC backup battery?

What about testing the RAM and HDD or SSD in another computer?

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X240 that suddenly turned off whilst I was using it. It was charging at the time, and I'm fairly certain that the laptop itself didn't overheat. I've tried disconnecting the battery and ac adapter, holding the power button, connecting them back on and pressing the power button but nothing. It would be great if someone could give me some help, thanks.

Hi all, I was working on my laptop this morning and it suddenly died (screen went black, all indicator lights off). No warning indications came up before it died. It was plugged into the AC adapter with full battery. When I pressed the power button to restart it, nothing happened--no lights, no fan, no screen activity. The red light in the "i" of "ThinkPad" on the back of the screen won't come on, even when the AC adapter is plugged in. The laptop was on top of a blanket so I thought maybe it overheated, but the bottom of the laptop and the battery itself weren't hot. I removed the battery and tried a number of strategies I saw online: 1) pressed power button 10 times at 1-sec intervals, then held for 30 seconds, 2) pressed power button for 20 seconds, 3) pressed button for 30 seconds. I removed the battery and tried to turn on the machine between each strategy. I've tried the emergency reset button underneath the touchpad. I've removed the battery and tried the AC adapter only, tried with the battery with and without AC adapter.  I've had the laptop since August 2016 with no problems. No updates installed within the past few days. Help is very much appreciated!!!!Thank you!

I have an IBM Thinkpad T40p. It has an ATI Mobility Fire GL 9000 and a built-in 1400x1050 display. I have it hooked up to an external monitor on a docking station. When the screen is set to 1400x1050, the image on the external monitor pans with the movement of the mouse. I know the monitor is capable of up to 1600x1200 and that is listed in one of the modes. I tried adding a 1400x1050 mode with an ini file and that didn't work. I might not have done it right or the hardware (or the driver) below the level of the ini file is actually reading the monitor and the monitor is reporting back it's modes. Those modes include 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 but not 1400x1050. So it decides to pan the 1400x1040 image on the monitor in 1280x1024 mode.

Is there a way to turn this panning off? Will the monitor actually display a 1400x1050 image?

A:How to turn off pan on external monitor on IBM Thinkpad?

Very few standard monitors will display anything between 1280 and 1600. Maybe one of the newer widescreen TFT's will do it.

Your best bet is probably to change your screensettings to something your external monitor can display when using it.
