Quickbks-new tax rate not updating for payroll

Q: Quickbks-new tax rate not updating for payroll

I am the new bookkeeper for a small company. Our local withholding rate has recently changed from 1.0% to 1.7%. I have changed this in the employee defaults, but it still is calculating the 1.0% in each paycheck. Even if I go into an individual employee record, the tax rate is still 1.0%, (after I've changed the defaults.) And, if I change the rate in the individual employee record, the change still doesn't 'take' in the payroll window. It does show the new rate in the employee record, but it's like Quickbooks isn't applying the changes through into the payroll module.

I've followed the Qbks help files, but it just says to change the defaults if the rate change applies to all/most employees. I'm not super familiar with Qbks yet, so maybe it's something easy that I'm missing.

Thanks in advance for all help and suggestions.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It's been two years since I used QuickPayroll, which is included in QuickBooks, but what I remember is you have to go into the basic format designed to provide information to all payroll records.

I also found that Tech Support was VERY helpful. Have you tried calling them? Really patient with some of my stupid questions.

Hope this helps!

Twice over the past five months, when reconciling my QuickBooks Pro 2007 account with my bank statement, I have found that the tax amounts for two previously-reconciled paychecks have changed. My accountant, to whom I send my account in a QuickBooks Portable File and who uses a QuickBooks payroll program, says they have not made any changes. By checking backup, I have narrowed the time when these changes occur to the time that the portable file is used for payroll processing. Manually correcting the changed amounts is not an option since they revert to the changed amounts at the next payroll processing period. This seems to be an issue with QuickBooks payroll processing software. Has anyone else had such an experience and, if so, found the cause and a solution? The checks in question had been printed and reconciled at the time the changes occurred and the net pay had been "locked" so these changes should not have occurred.

Thanks for any help.

So if my router is reporting my max line rate is 82 mbit/s but the actual rate getting to the router is 55 mbit/s then what does this suggest ?

An Open Reach engineer did visit to check everything was where it should be both at my home and at the street cabinet. Resulting in moving the router next to the socket where the line comes in to the house, initially the speed was getting around 65mbit/s after he had organised things better.

He did say though the connection may go slower or faster over 10 days, its been a month now.

My ISP is Sky and I am subscribed to Fibre Pro (the best they offer) - their estimate to my house was 70mbit/s.

Since then the highest rate I've seen is 59mbit down and 19mbit up.

So since I've subscribed to the highest speeds Sky will offer me I doubt I'm getting capped.

The internet from outside has been cutting off each sometime around 9pm, maybe theres a bad line somewhere between my house and the cabinet ?

What do you guys think ? What are some possible ideas what's going on ?

A:Router reports much higher max rate than data rate

Shared line problems. It's pretty rare for you to actually get the speed advertised. There's a lot that goes into an internet connection, like the link speed for the devices. Applications that monitor, or check traffic can of course slow it down. But the most common cause is a shared line. For example:

You and 12 of your neighbors order the 100mbit service. Your ISP uses a 1Gbit line for all of you. You can get 100Mbits, as long as 2 of your neighbors aren't using it at all, even if the others are using up all of their speed. But if all 12 are on at the same time, it balances, and some people get a drop in speed.

It's all pretty standard practice with ISPs. As far as the dropoff at 9PM, that's usually caused by a gateway/modem reset. That's when they renew their IP lease. Some even do a full power cycle as well. Check your modem/gatway logs at that time to see if it shows any information about reconnecting (usually the easiest way to tell is the time is incredibly wrong until it gets the correct time from the ISP)

Maybe it's different in the UK for the shared line. Maybe there's not a questionable cloud of "Up to 100MBits!!!***" there with some bullet points saying you won't always get it. But almost every time here, that's the case.

At our company we accrue vacation over 10 months (Jan to Oct each year). The std Peachtree vacation formula assumes a full calendar year. I need help constructing a Peachtree formula that will stop accruing vacation after October. I can set the amount per check. Something as simple as the following concept:

IF (payroll date > 10/31/08, 0, 3.08) which would accrue 3.08 hours each pay period with a date less than 10/31/08. I don't know the syntax within the Peachtree software to make this happen.

I am manually creating a payroll spreadsheet for our company (excel template). I want to add a column that tracks YTD so at the end of the year I can look at how much we spend on payroll. Example I would like cell "I5" to add what is in cell ($60) plus the new week total in cell "H5" ($150) to show a total of $210 in I5....I also want to keep a running total same type deal for the taxes.

I have googled and saw maybe a macro is needed but have not idea how to create this.

Hi guys

I want to build an HR/Payroll system from scratch.
It needs to be similar to the one I use at the moment which is a website, it is a management information system that many people log in to, to enter and view data from.
For example
Manager A inputs shifts on to a rota for his team of 5 staff members.
The 5 staff members are able to log on to the site (as a basic view only role) which allows them to see what the manager has submitted for them for their monthly timesheet.
The data entered by Manager A and by Admin A about Employee A is able to be manipulated and presented in a pdf report. For example, if I want to know how many times Employee A has been off sick in the past year. Thankfully for me, Manager A has been putting Employee A's periods of sickness on the rota. The system lists these periods of sickness, and all their attributes, from the past 12 months, in a pdf report for me. It also does the same for holidays/annual leave. The system also gives me a pdf-able report of the employees training because Admin A has put on information about every course Employee A has done.

I can also, on my system role, upload documents for managers to view.

I can also export all timesheet entries by CSV so I can import it into another system (Sage).

I am not an experienced IT expert but I am willing to spend years learning how to do this.
I just need someone to give me a map of where to start, what I'll need in terms of resources, and what knowledge I will need to... Read more

Hello -

I've searched high and low and still haven't been able to find the proper formula. I have a spreadsheet where I calculate ER SS tax for each EE for each pay period. I need a formula that is going to look at the YTD earnings and the wage base limit (106800) each week before calculating the formula. So what would a formula be to calculate 6.2% of wages this week taking into consideration that YTD wages are less than 106800, and when they do go over 106800, make the calculation 0, but keep prior week's taxes what they were. Any help is greatly appreciated!

In attempting to run payroll yesterday, a window appeared stating "Payroll processing is not permitted when a run is already open in another period." Looking back into July, I found a Payroll Posting Log listed as "Incomplete" and the time on it was about one minute prior to the posting log that was actually posted. So I don't know what happened, maybe a momentary loss of power or wireless signal? The problem is, I can't find a way to access it in order to delete it or cancel it. I had to calculate payroll by hand, which means none of the withholdings, benefits, gross & net pay, etc., are updated.

Help! We no longer have support from Deltek, and can't afford to upgrade to Vision. If I can't access Payroll, one of the most important aspects of the program is gone.

I use Excel to prepare payroll for my staff. I have 12 workbooks, one for each month. Each workbook has 3 spreadsheets (departments). Each spreadsheet has 4 tables, one below the other depending how many weeks the month has. Each table has headings for name of employee, rate, social security... and so forth.

I am looking for a way to compile all these workbooks in a way such that I get a total (cumulative) for the entire year for every employee his/her total gross pay, social securities, and the count (no. of weeks worked) - all this into a single table, preferably new workbook.

If this can be done through Excel or Access, please help me. If not, can someone recommend me a payroll program where I prepare payroll, customize social securities, pay date, deductions, additions, hours/day pay by class and get monthly or annual reports such as I am asking.

I have attached a sample of the workbook.

I have been advised by Intuit that QB 2009 Pro will function in Windows 7 but payroll will not...has anyone experienced this problem? It's the only thing stopping me from the upgrade to 7.

A:Windows 7 + Quickbooks 2009 Pro + payroll functions

Hi Warden77,
After searching from the Intuit QuickBooks website, I find that Intuit QuickBooks 2009 is not fully compatible with Windows 7. The only version of QuickBooks that is compatible with Windows 7 is QuickBooks 2010. To fix the compatibility issue, Intuit’s Technical support suggests to upgrade to QuickBooks 2010. For more information, you may check the following link:
Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.

I also would like to suggest you try to run QuickBooks 2009 under Windows Vista Compatibility Mode.
1. Right-click the .exe file of the QuickBooks 2009 and choose Properties.
2. Click the "Compatibility" tab.
3. Please check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and choose "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)".
4. Select "Run this program as an administrator" option under the Privilege Level.
5. Click Apply, click OK.

I have QB 2009 - we had a payroll tax subscription that calculated taxes and we filed our own reports. Suddenly it no longer works and I want to go back to manually calculating the taxes, inputting them and printing the checks. I used to be able to do this.

For 2 days I've been round and round with their tech support and I'm almost to tears every time I try to explain for the nth time and go thru the attempts to update for the nth time.

What is happening is that when I click Employees, pay unscheduled paycheck, then click an employee, it is telling me QB doesn't have all the info it needs and I then get stuck in a loop of screens asking me to verify the NM UI and withholding rates. I can never go past that to get into the paycheck creation screen.

One helpful soul tried to tell me that I would now have to do them through the WRITE CHECK screen. Is this correct? Or is there something else I can do to try to get back to doing it manually? That's going to be a pain if it's true.

I'm an accountant more or less, so I am familiar with all the accounts involved and rates and such.

UPDATE: For anyone else going thru this #@#%. FINALLY got a tech who actually helped. I had to go into each employee record, edit the tax info on that employee, remove the state taxes on the "Other" tab, and I was able to get into the create paycheck screen. Thanks to all the 91+ people who looked at my problem so fast!

I have been trying some different settings and my current download will stay the same but the max rate would increase which I never get, I increased the max rate from 84 to 90 mbit/s but my current just always stays at 54mbit/s in return my current upload speed does lower from 19 to 15mbit/s.

Default Router Settings

Custom SNR Settings
My router is next to the where the line comes in to the house with a short cable. The cable is a standard cheap one, so I tried a shielded twisted (rj11) cable (same length) and it actually made my speeds lower!

So I went back to the cheap flat cable.

My isp isnt capping me because their estimates were 70mbit/s and Im on their best service.
Dont know if this helps? (with custom settings)

From looking at my old speedtest results, I had 16 ping with my old ADSL connection.
Now with my new Fibre connection I get pings of 25 or 27.

Shouldn't fibre get a faster ping ?

A:Tuning SNR only increases "Max" rate but NOT current rate

so I tried a shielded twisted (rj11) cable (same length) and it actually made my speeds lower!

rj11 is a phone jack, not a twisted pair cable (shielded or not).

You are not going to be able to increase your speed, since that's controlled by your ISP or dependent on equipment on their side of the demarcation point. On your end you have everything needed to get higher speed, i.e. an Ethernet cable and NIC that obviously both support at least 100Mbps.

You may be able to get max speed once at 3:00am on a full moon during a leap year

As the title says. 3 year old laptop that otherwise is still great, now useless due to Lenovo not updating the bios and preventing me from updating windows which made adobe illustrator and photoshop stop working, can't download codecs, etc. Windows support said until lenovo updates the bios I'm out of luck and have a useless machine. Due to lack of support for older machines and this ridiculous issue I would never recommend any business professional like me to purchase one. What version of Windows are you running right now, what version are you trying to update to, and what error are you getting? Per Lenovo (see link below), that model is compatible with Windows 10 1809, but has not yet been certified for Microsoft's just released May 1903 update. Lenovo devices tested for Windows 10 version 1809https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht507291 When Microsoft makes major OS updates, the manufactures of hardware devices in your system such as like Intel, Synaptics and Realteck etc. may need to provide updated drivers to computer manufacturers such as Lenovo etc. so their hardware will work properly.  Windows 10 version 1903 is just now rolling out, so I cannot believe that Adobe is requiring version 1903 for codec updates etc.    I also find it hard to believe that it is a BIOS issue, and would guess that most likely Microsoft is blowing you off with that excuse, because there are many Y50-70 systems running Windows 10 already using the old BIOS. Windows 10 Drivers page for Lenovo Y50-70https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-y-series-laptops/y50-70-note...    Cheers,

my computer is capable of a 64 bit speed but it is only running 32 bit rate. how do i change it to 64 bit?

A:64 bit rate?

????? What do you mean by 64-bit 'speed' and how do you know it's only running at '32 bit rate'?

If you're talking about the 64-bit vs. 32-bit versions of Vista, these are different products. If your PC is capable of running 64-bit Vista, and assuming you want to do that, then you'd need to buy the 64-bit version. Possibly available as an upgrade-I haven't looked into that as I'm not interested in running the 64-bit version (too many incompatibilities for my taste).

i want a professional opinion (other than mine) on my comp, and what would be cost effective upgrades, its a little old, a 2001 hp pavilion 7865 heavily modded now with a 1.2ghz 200mhz fsb with 1gb (2x 512) pc133 sdram, 20 80gb ide hard drives, main 7200 rpm, slave 5400. nvidia geforce2
mx/mx 400 with 64mb of vram. and a creative sound blaster (not sure which model)

A:rate my pc for xp 1-10

Are you looking for upgrades? If so I would start with your video card. Geforce 2 is ancient! You could probably purchase a geforce 4 for cheap now-a-days (if you could find one at all) and that would be a huge step up from what you currently have. You could probably go even higher than a geforce 4, but eventually your motherboard and processor will be holding your video card back so don't go too fancy on a new video card.

Other than that...did you say you had twenty 80GB hard drives?

In terms of computer hardware, I almost have no idea. So I really don't know how my rig rates compared to others. I honestly haven't posted specs before, so if I put in a lot of unnecessary information just tell me.

Asus P5LD2-VM/C Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6200 1.86Ghz
Teeny Weeny Seagate 160Gb 7200rpm 8mb 3.5" ATA100
RAM Transcend 1Gb PC5300 DDRII 667mhz
Asus EN7100GS 128Mb DDR2 Support to 512Mb TV/DVI PCI-Express (apparently this is the graphics card according to my receipt)
NVIDIA GeForce 7100 GS 512Mb Intergrated RAMDAC (This is not mentioned on the receipt)

NEC 17" LCD 72VX-BK (DVI) 8ms Response 1280x1024
Windows XP Home
Some crappy keyboard and mouse (cost $30.00 for both of them)
Simple case
16x cd-reader and burner

I'm a bit confused about the graphics card. Could someone bring me up to speed with the difference between the ASUS and the NVIDIA?
This computer was bought almost 2 years ago. I'm quite sure it's not a top-end computer, but on a scale of 1-10, what would you rate it? If anyone is a gamer here would it be able to run GTAIV, TF2 or BF2?

Thanks for any help,

I'd give it 4 out of 5 star rating, if you could possibly get an i3 or greater instead of the Pentium G620.

To answer your question, yes the G620 is compatible with LGA1155 motherboards.

Been looking into this for a couple days. I'm running Win7 ultimate and have an avermedia tuner card, works well if, as soon as you bootup you start media center. If I wait longer than 5 minutes and start MCE I get a picture but it is digitally scrambled looking and very choppy sound eventually getting the low bit rate error. At startup loading up MCE it will run for hours with no problem. The obvious answer is, start it up if your gonna use it. Alot of forums about low bit rate with Win7 RC and Media Center Edition. Just wondering if anyone figured this out yet.

Hi everyone,
I'm putting together a PC, purely as a hobby to create the "best bang for your buck" Gaming system.

The system's main components are as follows:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Edition
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 core 1056t OC 3.6ghz
RAM: 4GB Corsair 1600mhz
Video Card: Sapphire HD6850 1G GDDR5

HardDrive: Western Digital 1TB SATA3 64M IntelliPowe CaviarGreen
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 AMD970
Case: Areo Cool Strike X red Gaming System Case (as shown in picture)
PSU: Thermaltake Litepower 600w
The overall cost of this device's components is around $680
I'm thinking of selling the device for around $900 to make a small profit for my efforts.

What do you think?

CPU changed from phenom II x6 1055t 2.8ghz (oc'd to 3.6ghz), to phenom II x4 840 3.3ghz (oc'd to 3.6ghz)
Video Card changed from HD 6850, to 6870.
RAM changed from 4gb corsair 1600mhz, to 8gb corsair 1600mhz.
Hard drive changed from WD CaviarGreen, to 1TB Spinpoint F3 SATA II 7200RPM

Overall price is raised a little, to around $710.

I've had some negative feedback on other forums, saying that It would be better to downgrade the CPU to a quad core, and OC it to the same clock speed as the x6 cpu,
then upgrade the graphics card, RAM, and Harddrvie, to something better.

Would you all agree?

Guys, I have come to trust the knowledge here and I am looking to upgrade my PSU so I will be able to run both my GPU cards (EVGA GTX260 + ECS 8800GT). I am getting different answers from different people so I just need to make sure I won't be throwing my money away.

Here's the link of the PSU in question...

I have read some reviews of it but still, their answers are not specific.

A:How would you rate this PSU...

Should be OK. This brand of PSU is used and recommended by Scott Mueller, of Upgrading and Repairing PCs fame.

Hey guys I am new to forum and new to Vista. I just built my first computer with help and advice from a friend and just am wondering what you think.

ASUS M3A78 AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
GeForce 9800 GTX(G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz
OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD502lJ 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache
OCZ StealthXStream OCZ500SXS 500W

So far it is running beautifully with Vista. No hiccups. All drivers recognized. I built this system because I hadn't upgraded my POS dell since I got it in '02 and it officially bit the dust the other day. I also wanted to be able to play all the top of the line games that are out especially Fallout 3. Anyway I just wanted to know if anyone has a similar setup and how it has been treating them.

I not willing to download Windows 7 RC 1 as of yet with all the compatibility issues and driver issues. I'll wait for the public release date. Now, will 7 be offered as a stand alone 64 bit OS or will it be offered in both 32 and 64 bit OS's. What is the time frame on the 32 bit OS and 32 bit software? When is 64 bit OS's going to be the only OS out there? Just curious.

A:7 bit rate

it'll be both 64 and 32 bit. also, it is expected to be released around october, according to rumors

Also have a 750PSU I'd replace the 700 with.
