WiGig compatibility (x270)

Q: WiGig compatibility (x270)

I planned to purchase Lenovo WiGig dock for my x270 but postponed the decision after reading commentaries about compatibility issues with some of Thinkpad models. As I understand, the only WiGig compatible WiFi module is Intel 18260 (Triple band?).My x270 (product no. 20K5S08T08) has Intel Dual Band AC-8260.I assume that WiGig will not work with my Thinkpad.Am I right?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a problem with the WiGig not enabling on first boot to connect with my WiGig dock.   I believe it may be something with the boot process not enabling WiGig.  After the initial boot, I restart and everything works fine.  Not very limiting but still annoying.  I have searched extensively and found nothing. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I've recently received my new x1 yoga with wigig dock.  Quite happy with the machine, despite the battery life being far less than 8 hours-- more like 4 with normal use. Finding the wigig dock to be quite unusable. Needs to be on all the time, doesn't save power. While it is on and unconnected, it will display instructions to connect the dock on the connected display so my monitor won't sleep.Takes 10 seconds or so to start up or shut down.Makes a noticeable whirring noise.Range of around 1 metre. Has anyone else figured out if you can actually configure this thing to sleep or not show annoying instruction screens?

As the title says, I'm trying to upgrade my laptop with WiGig support, and so far I have encountered only obstacles. I have bought a Dell wireless docking station WLD15 (which uses an Intel 13100), a 60 GHz antenna module from a replacement LCD cover for a laptop model with WiGig support (Dell E5440), and of course, an Intel 17265. The first problem is that Intel 17265 uses an M.2 key A (only) connector, but the Y50-70 has an M.2 key E (only). Before I go any further let's take a look at the differences between M.2 key A and E.M.2 key AM.2 key EThe Intel 17265 needs only PCIe0 for WiFi (n/ac) + PCIe1 for WiGig + USB for Bluetooth ( + DisplayPort channels for ???). Intel 17265 pinout topIntel 17265 pinout bottomIntel 17265 next to the the Y50-70 connectrSo I have 2 options.1. If DisplayPort channels proves to be optional, I could replace the M.2 key E connector with one that is key A or cut a key E in the Intel 17265 adapter.2. Buy an M.2 to mPCIe adapter (which uses PCIe0 from host) and an mPCIe to M.2 adapter (which connects the mPCIe to the PCIe1 of the adapter, the one used by the WiGig). Basically it will take PCIe0 from the laptop and connect it to the PCIe1 of the adapter, the one used by the WiGig. Not sure how well will the PCIe 3.0 work over 2 long adapters though. So the first problem was connector missmatch. The second one is that the M.2 connector on the motherboard might have only PCIe0 connected, no PCIe1 which is used by WiGig. This would com... Read more

Like the quality of OLED, is it really work waiting for?  Also Wigig, Does it work as well as it should. Since this is a first release, I am worried like every other first release products, it will be full of bugs. Hi,I have t460s WiGig ready model. Welcome to the CommunityWhat difference do you mean? The connectors look the same. FYI wwan m.2 slot in all T460s is suitable to accept the wwan modem disragarding the wwan antennas presence (this is a condition to name the laptop as "wwan upgradable" in the specification but those antennas might be installed separately). What's the wwan card model and its FRU # you have?

Recently received several new X1s (i7 w/8GB, non-touch 2560 display and 500GB PCIe drive). All of them failed the Lenovo hardware test (PCI Express). After calling Lenovo support and having them offer to send me a box so I could wait while they figured it out. I started looking at the drivers. Some were old. Upgrading the Intel driver set fixed the issue. I upgraded from the Intel site. I'll never understand how Lenovo can send out brand new machines that fail their own automated hardware test. Doesn't anyone check? This has happened the last three times we've purchased Lenovos. Overall the machine is good, really very little different from last year. They're using a new style of fingerprint reader which I don't like as much. Rather than swipe, it's like a small touchpad below the cursor keys. It works (can't start the machine with it like the old Authentec sensors)...so not a big deal. Now my question(s)...Lenovo decided to, once again, require different docks with this device. Obviously, the drop-on docks from the T series don't work, but the newer plug-in docks from as late as last year are also incompatible.  Rather than buying a new plug-in box I see that the machines now support WiGig docking stations (or are supposed to). Will the X1 work with any Intel standard WiGig dock or only the Lenovo model? Has anyone used one of these docks?

A:X1 4Gen Thoughts and Question on WiGig dock

X1 can work with any Intel standard WiGig dock. But performance/compatibility can be only guaranteed by Lenovo dock.

So i have had my Lenovo Thinkpad X1 yoga with a Wigig dock for about 2 weeks now and it is a fantastic machine. The WiGig is an amazing piece of hardware and it works almost perfectly, except for one function. It won't turn off. When pushing the power button on the dock or on the PC, or closing the lid, the PC goes into rest mode which is what it's supposed to do. Problem is, a few seconds later the WiGig dock starts booting up again. The only way I've successfully made it go to sleep is by having the sleep timer go out. I managed to create a workaround for this problem by taking away wake up permission from the docks mouse, keyboard and the dock itself.  That at least leaves the machine still in hibernation, but the dock itself wakes up again 2 seconds later and prompts the connection instructions on the screen.Tried taking out all the USB components from the dock to see if maybe they where waking it, but it did not make a difference. Is there something wrong with my unit? Is there any way to fix this bug? Or is this just a terrible design decision?Tried to find some support for this, but a general search for the product on Lenovo's page gives no result except for forum pages of people wondering when it will become available... Well it's available people. And after a lot of digging i finally found the support page, but it did not help me much with my issue,https://support.... Read more

Hello Support:
I have a presale question about a new latitude 5480.  I noticed when configuring under the LCD option I have a choice for WWAN, WLAN and WiGIG.  Considering the laptop will also come with a wireless card for 802.11, what purpose is the LCD screen with the WLAN as an option?  That seems redundant?   I appreciate your help.  -Bob

A:Why do LCD screens have WWAN, WLAN and WIGIG as an option.

The designation refers to the antenna -- there is different wiring for the different options, and it's routed around the LCD screen.

The Wireless Gigabit Alliance has teamed up with the Wi-Fi Alliance on the next-generation wireless connectivity standard aptly named Wi-Gig that will put both the Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n WiFi specifications to shame with transfer rates up to 7Gbps. For comparison, 802.11n WiFi peaks at the theoretical maximum of 600Mbps.
According to a statement released earlier today on the Wireless Gigabit Alliance?s site, the multi-gigabit wireless networking technology will support high-performance applications like wireless high-definition video transfer. The technology will operate in the unlicensed 60GHz spectrum and both the Wi-Fi Alliance and the WiGig Alliance will share technology specifications in order to make WiGig backwards-compatible with the ubiquitous WiFi networks. Put simply, WiGig-compliant devices will be able to hand over sessions to operate in the 2.4 or 5 GHz band used by the existing 802.11a/b/g/n networks.
As a result, a new class of tri-band WiFi certified devices, expected on the market at a later stage, will be able to connect wirelessly at multi-gigabit wireless speeds while falling back to WiFi when needed. The WiGig technology will augment WiFi rather then replace it, the organization said, partly due to the fact that WiGig networks won?t be able to match the coverage of WiFi networks. Therein lies the answer to your question ?is this thing going to replace wired cables once and for all.?
The Wireless Gigabit Alliance has already p... Read more

So after installing the latest Intel HD Graphics driver (22.20.16.4836) using Lenovo Update my external monitors (on a WiGig dock) no longer work! I can see them in Windows, but when I go to "Extend desktop" to them the laptop screen blanks out for a moment and Windows asks if i want to keep the settings. I obviously say yes, but the external screens are still not working; and Windows still shows them as not being in use. I can work-around by plugging them directly into my PC, but that defeats the purpose of a rather expensive dock. At home I have a normal docking station which is also unaffected. I raise this as a support ticket but the agent was utterly useless. She kept telling me to uninstall/reinstall the driver (which i did), to boot into the BIOS (and not change anything) and finally to install the old driver. When i asked where to get this from she sent me to the Lenovo drivers download page and I had to explain to her that this only let me download the current driver! She then went away to ask a collegue and sent me a the link to Intel's website; but to download old versions of the WiGig wifi driver. I pointed out that this wasn't the problem driver and she assured me it was (obviously technical can see for the problem description it wasn't!). When I queried what issues old drivers would cause and the fact that they are automatically installed she said I should disable automatic update installation. I questioned the wisdom in d... Hello,

I recently had issues with my PSU and rather than play guesswork on whether its still functional, I rather just replace it.

My motherboard is a m3n78-pro. Its a bit dated but I'd like for this pc to last another 6 months before I build an entirely new rig. If I read the manual correctly, it requires ATX 12V V2.0.

The PSU I'd like to change to (since it just has to last another 6 months) this 900 w PSU. Would the m3n78-pro be compatible with this PSU? One concern I had was that the m3n78-pro requires a 4 pin ATX +12v connector. If I read the PSU's specifications correctly it has one 12V 8-pin (4 + 4) CPU power connector. Is that 8-pin two separate power connector, ie do I just use 1 of the connectors to fit into the 4 pin ATX +12v connector?

Please excuse my noobishness but what exactly does the v2.92 Motherboard specification entail? I tried to google it, but got less useful information and product results from newegg.

Also I read the wiki on the ATX 12V V2.X standard, but it didn't answer my question - is ATX12V v2.3 backwards compatible with the ATX12V v2.0 standard?
Thank you very much for any help you can give.

I need some advice about the displays for the x270 ? is the HD display on the x270 an IPS? I didn?t find this info here https://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-x/ThinkPad-X270/p/20HNCTO1WWENUS0/customize?...! My current x240 with has HD resolution (I can?t tell if it?s IPS or not) model 20ALCTO1WW ? I?m considering replacing it with the x270.I?ve heard good things about the FHD display but I?m concerned that with the FHD panel my font size will be too tiny for my 50+ year old eyes in its native resolution. I?ve heard that scaling the display results in suboptimal rendering/quality of text/fonts. Has anyone looked at both versions of the display? How do they compare? I?ll be using the system for mostly coding/writing and perhaps watching some videos. No Graphics or PS intensive work. Might hook it up to the tv from time to time (not that often) The display on the x240 isn?t the greatest (could be brighter for sure) but it works fine, so I could probably do fine with the same type for the x270 ? or is there something that I ought to consider? Thanks! PS: FWIW, I?m planning to get the i5-7300 model with 16 GB RAM and the 500 GB drive (that I plan to replace with a standard SSD 500 GB or 1TB drive ? hopefully not a problem).
