nvidia geforce 256 video card

Q: nvidia geforce 256 video card

I accidentally changed something and I don't know what! I can't get the color to be 256 bit, only 16. I tried downloading the latest driver but it didn't work. When I try to change it to 256 color it says to check the display in the device manager, and that says that everything is working. Can you give me any help??? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Your going to need to get the drivers reinstalled. If you still have the installation cd run it and load the drivers from there. If not download the latest from http://www.nvidia.com.
Last ditch, go to device manager, remove the card, reboot and reinstall.

Ah, my friend.it sounds not to be a video card problem, but more of a codec issue. make sure your codecs are up to date and if that doesn't work, post your system specs.

Trying to upgrade the video performance on my stock CPU (details here http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02481314 ).  Games already loaded - Overwatch, and War Thunder.  Both games will run, but the lag is pretty bad. Did on-line research and I think the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750Ti card should work - runs just on the card slot, rated for 300W PSU (card details here - https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-750Ti-Graphics-02G-P4-3753-KR/dp/B00IDG3PRI?th=1 and here http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-750-ti/specifications). But, my motherboard hasn't had a BIOS update since purchase (BIOS Revision 6.04 09/07/10) and I'm not even sure if HP has a BIOS update for this computer.  I'm worried that either the MOB or the Windows 10 OS won't pick up the card, leaving me with a dark screen following the install.  Some additional investigation suggests that the card's PCI 3.0 format may cause issues. Already familiar with the new card install process - uninstall AMD drivers... power down CPU... remove old card - install new, install new drivers after successful boot. Bottom line - with a seven year old stock CPU should I even be trying to upgrade the video capability?

With some of the problems users have had with the adding of newer video cards, it might be a good idea to purchase from a shop that has a good return policy.  That subject card is not on the Compatible list but it might be OK.  you will not know for sure until you try it.  It is a very good card for upgrading purposes.http://www.pc-specs.com/mobo/HP/HP_N-Alvorix-RS880-uATX_(Alvorix)/1631/Compatible_GPUs

Hi: I don't know about a PCI card working, but a Nvidia GT 630 PCIe x16 card should. A PCI card would not do well for gaming at all. The GT 630 PCIe x16 card will work within the specs of the 320W power supply your PC has.

OK
I just got my NVIDIA Geforce 7900 GT.

Steps:
1) Uninstalled ATI Raedon x300 XPRESS Series (came with the computer)
2) Turned off the computer and inserted the Nvidia Geforce card in (it's a XFX btw) like the manual said
3) Started it back up and installed the drivers
4) Went to 'Setup' (when startin the PC) and changed Video Mode to PCI-E and disabled all BIOs except the sound

I go to start a game to test it out and I still get the same FPS. I wouldn't expect to get the same FPS as I did with the integrated graphics so I'm stuck and confused to why it's (exactly) the same FPS.

I have checked my display adapters and I only see "NVIDIA Geforce 7900 GT" and it seems to recognize it's installed correctly.

Comp. Specs:
AMD Athlon
Windows XP
512MB

I'm probably going to build a new computer from scratch with this card LATER on but right now I want to use this with this computer.

hmmm did the 32 mb card work properly?
did you uninstall the 32 mb card drivers?
try having your minitor cable linked straight onto the motherboard monitor connector if you have one and i think the reason the picture would not boot from bios is becouse some drivers are still installed.
did you uninstall the fx 5500 drivers before putting the 32 mb card back in.

check if the graphics card uses too utch power and check if the monitor is connected onto the graphics card properly.

the problem you are facing could be due to motherboard related problems or you may have a faulty graphics card or you simply might be installing the graphics card wrong (read the instruction booklet carefully)

Hello all,

I recently tried to play the game Champions Online for the PC and found out that my video card was preventing me from doing so. My Current video card is Nvidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430. I don't want to play Hard core games for my PC, just this one mainly.

The Reqs. for the game are(Minimum):
OS:Windows XP SP2/ Windows Vista/Windows 7
CPU:2.5GHz Single Core or 1.8GHz Dual Core
Memory:1GB RAM
Video:NVIDIA GeForce 7600 / ATI Radeon X700 or HD / Intel GMA 4
Sound: DirectX 9.0c Compatible Soundcard
DirectX:Version 9.0c or Higher
HDD:5GB Free Disk Space
Network:Broadband Required
Disc:6X DVD-ROM

My Computer is a Compaq cq5110F PC and was wondering what kind of video card would be compatible for it. I don't plan on becoming a hard core gamer, I just want to play this game. I also play a game known as Anarchy online, and with a bigger video card, i'll have to replace my Power supply, it's 300W right now.

I have a fairly limited knowledge on the inside of computers, but any other information you need i'll try my best to give to you. Thanks in advance for your help.

I have also attached a DxDiag, to help further.

A:Upgrading my video card from Nvidia GeForce 6150SE

if you were to follow the game's minimum requirements i would recommend at least a 400w PSU, but it depends on the power supply itself as they are all different. if the card needs auxiliary power then it will most likely tax the PSU too much if you have a lot of other components, but you could always try. the radeon X700 isn't a very demanding card so i wouldn't be surprised if it worked fine with the unit you have. on the other hand, 400-500w power supplies are cheap nowadays and it can only benefit your system if you choose to invest in one, but it's your call. just because you don't need high end stuff doesn't mean a beefier PSU is a bad idea

Hi all,

I am having a baffling issue regarding the install of an Nivdia Geforce GT710 video card into an HP
H8-1217c desktop running windows 10. Here is the problem as described below:

The card installs into the motherboard with no problem. When the desktop boots up, I get the startup splash screen for several seconds then the screen goes blank. The computer does not crash and shut down, but becomes unresponsive until I shut it down. If I take the card out, the desktop runs with no problems.

I've researched the card for several weeks and it appears to be a good match for the desktop I'm trying to install
it in, so I am at a loss to explain why this is happening. The desktop in question is being used for processing home videos and the video card supports 2 displays which is what I am looking for.

Any ideas and suggestions are welcome and greatly appreciated.

The specs of the desktop in question are below:

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7

A:Problem Installing Nvidia GeForce GT710 Video Card

You appear to have a HP Pavilion HPE h8-1217c Desktop PC.
Its Pegatron motherboard has a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot for adding a graphic card, and it has a 300W power supply.
I'm very familiar with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 graphic card, and your HP desktop should be able to handle it just fine.

After you uninstall the driver for the Intel graphic device, then shut down(not restart) that desktop, then install the graphic card, then start up that desktop, it should load fine.
You need to be patient and let it go through its startup process.
Once it does, then you can install the current driver (388.13) for the graphic card.

What do you mean when you say that desktop becomes unresponsive until you shut it down?
What exactly is it doing after you press the power-on button?

The same problem as what I posted in this thread.

Basically, KotOR is not working on my new, better, computer. I believe it's a driver problem, but don't know how to find out. My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce 6600 256MB, but the game recommends GeForce4 Ti or better (128 MB VRAM). So that's my other assumption as to why it doesn't work.

I can play a few minutes into the game, but then it makes a loud noise and my computer restarts. I thought it was a program called Smart Doctor that came on a CD with my video card, because I uninstalled it and the game let me get a little further into it, but when I went back to playing today, it restarted on me within 1 minute. My file only has 7 minutes in it, and I'm very disappointed.

Can someone help?

A:Solved: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 256MB video card with KotOR

The 6600GT is a much better and newer card then the the GeForce4 line of cards.

Your problem sounds like a heat or power issue.

What are your CPU, mainboard, and video temps?

What is the brand and the wattage of the power supply? Did you remember to plug in the auxilary power connector into the video card?

If your motherboard didn't come with an temp and voltage monitoring software you can try using Speedfan: http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php

it would also help if you posted the complete specs of the computer including the operating system.

Hey everyone, this is my first post, just hoping somebody could help me. I've just purchased a Nvidia Geforce 7300 GS video card for my Foxconn P4M9007MB Series motherboard. I've inserted the graphics card into the graphics card slot and closed the case.

I'm not sure whether I had to plug anything from or onto the graphics card since it didn't come with any cables or wires or anything. I then inserted the VGA monitor cable into the graphics card monitor cable slot and turned the tower/monitor on. The tower worked but there was no beep and the monitor said 'no signal' and the light on the monitor turned to orange instead of the usual blue.

The new graphics card I am using is the first graphics card to be placed into the graphics card slot on my motherboard, as I think the current graphics card is integrated on my motherboard or something.

Also, I read about the PSU fan have too low a wattage? I'm not sure how to find out the wattage of my PSU fan.

So all help explaining how to install the graphics card/get rid of the no signal message on my monitor would help tremendously.

Thank you in advance.

By the way, I'm using Windows Vista.

Hello all!

I've seen a lot of posts about this online whilst I've been Googling over the past couple days, but most of the time the threads end without a solution or they're about *nix operating systems.

I got a new desktop and decided I'd use the old machine as a media server, where I could keep my iTunes library, stream Netflix movies, etc. The machine runs Windows Vista Ultimate 32, and has a GeForce 9500 GT with 2 DVI output slots and one S-Video output slot. My TV is an older 4:3 CRT TV with S-video in, and RCA yellow, red, and white inputs. I already have a cable that converts the headphone jack to RCA red and white, so audio works fine. Video is a different story.

If I turn off the computer while the S-Video is attached and then turn it back on, the BIOS displays on the TV, so I know the card and the S-Video jack are functional. But once Windows starts up, there's no display on the TV, like it's not getting a signal.

I downloaded the latest driver from NVIDIA, but I'm having no luck, not even in the NVIDIA control panel. It's like I can't convince the video card that something is plugged into the SVideo port and that it should start pushing video through there. No resolution change I have tried has made any difference - I've gone all the way down to 800X600 and still nothing.

While getting the S-Video to work properly would be the most preferred option, I'm open to any suggestion that could work - ie, is there... Read more

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 Video card that I recently did a driver upgrade on. The driver version is 6.14.11.6375 Dated 10-14-07.

I just did a PC Pitstop Performance check and the results show LOW video performance of 14.42MPS. This SUCKS!

A similar test run just (2) weeks ago showed 93 MPS. I'm pretty sure that was with the old driver.

Why would a new driver KILL the video performance ????

See system specs in my sig.

Welcome to SevenForums.

I'm sorry to say that your GFX may be Faulty.

Try the Following.

1, Take the Card out of the Current PCI-e Socket and place in the other one.
2, Ensure your cards FAN is running when its on.
3, Cry - as this does not solve it your card is indeed DEAD.

I would enquirer about a RMA from the manufacturer as most cards have a nice 3yr warranty.

I have an old Dell Dimension 8300 PC with a bad video card (128MB DDR NVidia GeForce FX 5200). I need to replace the video card but because this PC is in our spare room for guests to use, I do not want to spend much to replace it. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive comparable card?

Thanks!

A:Bad Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 card

Well the first thing I need to know is what bus the card is operating on. Most 5200's by dell were AGP, and I know they made the 5200 in PCI but I am not sure.

You have several ways to tell what bus the card uses.

1. You can use system info/everest or something similar to see.
2. You can just physically take the card out and look. Google AGP and PCI. They don't look similar so you should be able to tell.

Now after taking the card out, it may be worth it to look at the back of the unit. If you see another VGA port, that will be the onboard. I haven't worked with these generation dells in a long time so I do not remember off the top of my head. If that is present, simply plug the monitor in and see what happens. You should have video automatically, if so, since this is a spare machine it should work ok.

If you do not have another VGA port after you take out the card, you will need to buy a replacement.

Both of the formats are long dead, so the prices are pretty cheap. You can get replacements for the 5200 in AGP or PCI

AGP HERE
PCI HERE

You can also shop around for used/cheaper solutions if you so desire. You are not limited to the 5200 specifically, anything from that generation ATI 9xxx series should work fine.

I recently made a new build with the follow:

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz quad core
Western Digital Caviar Green 500GB
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB)
MSI P67A-G45 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67
Win 7 Home Premium OEM sp1

Ok so you know what i got, and the MSI Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 graphics card drivers will not work with my system. I think that it is Win 7 cause if i install it in my old desktop it works like a dream and it is running Win XP SP3, and there is no problems at all and I just completed a duel boot with a second hard drive on above system and running xp on it as well and it works fine with it. Any ideas how to make it work? If need more info just post

A:MSI Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 graphics card

I assume you are using the Windows 7 driver and not the XP driver on it,

NVIDIA DRIVERS 280.26 WHQL

might be better to go with the one previous as I haven't been seeing much in the way of good reports on the latest,

NVIDIA DRIVERS 275.33 WHQL

Also is this an untouched windows disk, or has it been modified in some way?

I just installed Windows 7 on an older machine and I'm having the common problem where windows doesn't recognize my Nvidia graphics card (Geforce MX/MX 400).

The nvidia site only offers driver in the Geforce 4 MX series (I'm assuming that's the right one) for Windows XP, no Win7 no Vista. Should I try to install those drivers or should I look for a new graphics card?

A:Nvidia Geforce MX/MX 400 card not recognized

Go ahead and install the XP drivers. You may need to run them in compatibility mode.

Just note, your results are not guaranteed. There is a chance the card simply is not compatible.

Hey, I've been looking for a good but not overpriced graphics card for my new computer, which frankly has a terrible card which comes with it. I was wondering if the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti was any good, the most graphically intensive game I will be running on it is Skyrim.

So do you think it's good, and if so which graphics level (Low, Medium, High, Very High) do you think I'd be able to run it on?

Thanks,

I bought a new laptop - ACER 5745G.

After the initial Windows 7 64bit installation my scores were 6.6, 5.9, 5.9, 6.0 and only the Graphics for Areo a 4.9. Since I mostly want to use this laptop for watching HD videos, I figured those are scores aren't low and was satisfied. However, after automatic updates were installed all scores went down at least 1.0 point.

I tried installing a driver from NVIDIA's website, I tried changing performance settings but nothing made it better - instead in the end the graphics for aero score became 3.7.

I used system restore to get the laptop back to the date before some automatic updates were installed but I don't think I can make it stay like this forever.

Is this a bad graphics card? Am I expecting a score that is too high? And most importantly - what settings do I need to have in order to get the best video quality?

Thank you in advance!

The WEI settings are not accurate to begin with; don't worry about it.

hey all,

im gonna be swapping out my 660 Ti for a GTX 1060 in a few days and i was wondering if i can keep the current drivers (v375.95) that are installed via the GeForce Experience.
will the GeForce Exp know i have a different video card and automatically find the appropriate drivers for it?
or should i just manually try and uninstall then reinstall whatever is the newest driver
and are the drivers universal across the GTX line of cards?

A:changing video cards and NVIDIA GeForce Experience

Hi,
No,
All need to be removed before you install the new card.
Windows will install a generic display driver so you can login but download the new driver for the new card before hand so you can manually install it after getting to the desktop
The cd that may come with the card is probably old anyway,

I'm not up-to-date on the 9-Series as I'm still on a single 8800GTS myself,..

Here's what a quick Google turned up. They're effectively the same, if I understand correctly, except with better heat management on the newer card. Also, what type of VRAM do your old 8600s have? What is the "cost" you're citing?

If the intel graphics is integrated into the motherboard, you
can disable it in the BIOS.
If not,remove it.
Make sure you uninstall the drivers for the old graphics

Hello All,

Over the last 2 days I have been trying to install a new graphics card, PNY nvidia GeForce GT 430 on my HP Pavilion Elite m9515y Desktop PC. I removed the previous graphics card (nvidia GeForce 9600 GS) uninstalled the nvidia drivers and ran Driver Sweeper to clean up anything that was remaining. I shut off my anti-virus, selected Windows to ask before updating drivers and to ask before downloading and installing updates. I also visited the nvidia website and downloaded the latest driver 285.62 to my desktop.

Unfortunately, upon installing the GT 430 card I am now envcountering 100% of the time the BSoD shortly after booting up or during driver installation process (both with the installation disk and with the driver I downloaded. This happens both in normal and safe mode.

I have received a number of different messages on the blue screen such as: Page_Fault_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, THE_DRIVER_IS_MISMANAGING_SYSTEM_PTES, etc.

All returns to normal when I put the original card back in. I have attached the requested BSoD dump and system info as well as the system health report (buow-vista.html).

I have been using this pc for over 2 years. In the Spring of this year the pc kept crashing. I have found out that the graphics card is reaching temperatures of 105 degrees C when playing games. I have cleaned all the fans in the pc with air.

I have been told the heat sync is probably no longer functioning correctly.

GPU temp is 66 deg C when the pc is in normal use and fan speed 40%.

As soon as I play games the fan goes to 100% and the temperatures rise until the card crashes.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A:Nvidia geforce graphics card 320 overheating

I was having problems with the Nvidia chip in this laptop. Blowing out and cleaning the fans didn't seem to do any good so I took the advice of others and cleaned off the old thermal paste and applied new. It definitely appears to have help. No laptop shut downs since. I used Arctic MX-4. Search Youtube for instructions.

Also, for peace of mind, I uninstalled any temperature monitoring program.

I seem to believe most of these newer driver updates are focused more for win-10 instead of win-7

You card is pretty old so it might not work well on the newest NVidia driver
