Need new computer fans, bad at shopping for pc parts though

Q: Need new computer fans, bad at shopping for pc parts though

My computer fans are loud as all heck, and I need new ones.

Problem with fixing it is I don't actually know how to find what fans are effective and quiet. I need good airflow because I'm running nvidia hardware but I also can't do recordings well because of the background noise my rig makes. Anyone have computer fan suggestions?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

i am going to be upgrading my motherboard (which is currently a socket AM2 M2N4-SLI) to a mobo with a faster chipset, my power supply (ultra x-connect 550Watt) to something at least over 700W and with SLI support (does that matter?). I will also be upgrading my processor but i figured since im set right now with me 4200+ i could either go with the AMD black editiion or wait for the phenoms.

heres the questions

if i upgrade my motherboard right now will it be able to handle the phenom processors or will there be conflicts with a board made before the phenom release? is there a particular board that would be good to buy if i want to prepare for my upgrade to phenom? also im too sure on the whole power supply thing, you see, i want to be able to upgrade to either a 8800 640MB series GTS or maybe even the 8800 GTX based on my money situation in june, i just dont know what companies manufacture the best PSU's and what i really need to look for in terms of guaging quality. Now back to the motherboard because i just thought of another question, will DDR3 be released any time soon? if so what is really the best thing to buy for the time being given the market? do my upgrade decisions seem logical or if it were you upgrading your system (specs posted below) what would you upgrade:?

thanks for any and all help guys, i know youll help me out!

My computer started getting random pop-ups so before I used adaware or spybot I thought I'd restart the computer. When I tried to restart it hung up so I just pressed the power button to turn it off.

Now I am unable to turn it back on. The monitor comes on and says to check signal cable. I checked to see if it was plugged in. It's like it has no power.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Hi, I currently have the following laptop:

Asus F3Series (purchased in Winter 2008)
Intel Core 2 Duo (Centrino) T7500 @ 2.20 GHz 2.20 GHz
160 GB HD, 5400 rpm
2 GB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 512 MB
15.4" WXGA Screen
Windows 7 Home Premium

The laptop is serving my purposes well, but I am thinking whether its worth it to purchase a high performance desktop system and then use my current laptop while I'm away at work or school, using LogMeIn (or any other Remote Access program) to perform tasks that would take advantage of the capabilities of the desktop sitting home.

If this is a good idea, then I do not know how to shop for this high performance desktop system. I have looked around online, but it is hard for me to determine which features I should get and which features are cutting-edge, but I don't really need or would probably not notice any difference in performance.

Some of the tasks I would need/like to do:

- Heavy Multi-Tasking: Multiple windows of internet browsers, word processors, pdf viewers, image editing programs, media players, email clients, chat clients, explorer folders, all open and running at the same time.

- Heavy use of Microsoft Office programs to make large reports, vivid presentations, etc.

- Use of multiple 3D Modeling and Image Rendering/Editing Programs (Photoshop, Cinema4D, CorelDraw, Sketchup Pro) at the same time.

- Possible use of calculation intensive programs related to Engineering studies
Here are some tasks that I am not interested... Read more

A:Looking for an easy guide to high-performance computer shopping

The only requirement you have that would stretch a computer is the 3D modelling, and only if it's complex. I use Sketch up too and it's not testing for my system. I doubt any desktop would need to have more than four cores as that would keep your cost down while allowing ample multi tasking. Remote accessing over a network or homegroup is possible. Reducing the time you see the waiting ring is obviously proportional to what you spend on your system, you don't mention budget. Unless you are doing really complex modelling or multi screen stuff you wont require a mega graphics card. Your best bet for research is forums like this or talking to your friends in the same industry as you for recommendations.

Hello dcanoli,

I'm Stan and I will be helping you for this problem.

First of all I want to clear some things about the malware removal process:
Do not run any tools on your own. This may affect the process of removal and may cause both slowdown and additional problems.
Read carefully the steps that I suggest you to do. Any mismatch will prolong this case.
Copy any scripts carefully so they stay exactly the same with the original. Otherwise the script may not work and we will need to rerun/recreate it.
Feel free to copy all the steps in offline environment. They may be easier to read and follow in this way.
Feel free to ask any questions about the malware removal process. I'm here to help you so nothing must be hidden or misunderstood.
Share with me any problems/changes you experience while working with the current system.
Please, do not use any quotes or code boxes when you post logs.
I want to inform you that I will be able to respond in the evenings - 07:00 P.M - 11:00 P.M. (UTC + 02:00) - since I'm working during most of the daytime. If I haven't posted anything for 48 hours straight, please, feel free to send me a personal message. I will bump the topic if there is no response from you for 3 days. After 5 days of inactivity, the topic will be closed.

I have two issues that I hope you can assist me with.  The first paragraph below is for the first issue.  The second paragraph below is for the second issue.  I appreciate any assistance you could provide.

On 4/2/2016, I placed an order for a new display back cover and a set of hinges in the HP Parts Store.  My HP [personal information removed].  Total order cost = $233.91 in US dollars.  I paid for the parts already via credit card and the parts were delivered to me.  A friend of mine repairs laptops as a full time occupation.  She was planning to help me repair the broken laptop hinge and replace the back cover so part of the replacement hinge would be protected when I transport the computer.  Unfortunately, my friend found out that her sister was diagnosed with terminal cancer after I received the parts from the HP Parts Store.  My friend has been spending lots of time caring for her ill sister and her elderly parents in their 80s.  She is unable to help me repair the right hinge and back cover of my laptop.  The parts have not been touched and they are still in the boxes.  I would like to return the parts and receive a credit applied to my charge account; however the HP return policy states that parts must be returned in 14 days.  The HP Parts Store also charges a restocking fee.  Can you assist with this return transaction?  I would prefer to not pay the restocking fee.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

Hi,

I just built a computer, it has two 12" fans back and front a heatsinker, they are all working all the time. I dont think they slow down either.

Sometimes I can hear a high pitched noises and the fan is blowing out alot of air I have to shut it down wait a minuite then start it up and it goes, restarting it does not help. The temperture of the computer is allways 19/20c I only have a processor and motherboard in no graphics/sound card as its a server. So can I bring the fan down a bit to reduce the noise

A:Computer Fans

Theoretically, yes. But it depends on the fans, and on the motherboard. If there are no fan controllers on board, you probably cannot.

A:Can I use parts from a mini computer in a midi computer?

Well, you could probably use her hard drive and perhaps even her power supply if it has the same connectors to the motherboard as yours has....I believe both systems use the same sdram chips, so you might be able to boost your ram on the Acer machine as well....good luck.

Getting ready to start ordering parts for a new computer I am going to try and build. Going to buy the parts one at a time when I see a good price. Is there a certain order I should purchase each part? Also any advice on storing the parts?

Thanks Danboy

A:Computer Parts

well if you are building a computer, the basics you need are

1. a tower with a decent powersupply 500wats or better 50-60$
or more

2. motherboard and processor of your choosing that is in your budget 180-500$ or more

3. the fastest ram that will work for your motherboard that is in your budget at least 512 megs = 30=100$

4. a hard drive. i feel for right now 40-80 gig is plenty 40-200$

5. at least a cd rom. and a floppy drive if you have a windows that needs floppies for cdrom 20-50$ floppy drive 5-30$

6. (opitional) if you want high speed internet you will need a lan card (unless built in to the motherboard) or a modem if you have dial up internet. 10-40$

7.(opitional)sound card if you do not get a motherboard that does not have a sound chip built in you will need a sound card. 10-300$
the above is in my opinion what you need for a basic computer.

most computer parts come with an antistatic bag. so just keep dry and in a place where they wont get crunched (or you can start puting the computer together your parts should be safe in your tower )

My roommate knocked over a can of soda on my desk. It spilled down the side of the desk onto my case. After that the computer wouldn't turn on so I changed out my power supply and now the computer will turn on but the boot screen won't show up could there be a problem with the motherboard. So do I need to change that out or how should I figure out what needs to be changed without buying a brand new computer.

A:Computer parts

Start with some basic troubleshooting;
1 System OFF, open the case
2 Pull the pw connectors from ALL drive; both hd and optical
3 Pull out any add-in cards such as sound, nic/lan, raid, etc. Leave your video card installed however do reseat the card. If you have onboard/onchip video, then disregard leaving your video card installed
4 Disconnect any usb type device ie printer, scanner, hub, etc. If you have a usb keyboard, leave that connected
5 Reseat both atx and aux pw connectors. Be sure they are fully seated
6 Reseat the ram chip or chips; again be sure they are fully seated
7 Now pw ON and see if the board will complete POST.
If the board does POST, shutdown and start connecting devices one at a time until you find the failed part or parts. If it does not POST in the above config, then you need to swap mb, ram, cpu with known good units to find the failed part.

well I recently found a poor little computer sitting on the side of the road. being the person I am, I decided to take the little guy home and give him another chance at life.
So I added some of my other old parts I had lying around, in vain hope to give the poor old guy some life support.
thing is, I quickly got bored with the terrible components and have since come to the conclusion to put the damn thing out of it's misery.

here is my question to you though.

What can I do with these old crappy parts?

just in case it matters, here are the specs:

CPU: intel centrino 2GHz Dual Core
RAM: 2gb (2x1gb) DDR2
MoBo: some crappy M-ATX
Graphics card: GTX 250
PSU: 320W
ODD: generic lightscribe
HDD: 160GB WD Caviar Blue.
Case: was in no condition to even have in my room. threw it away.

Thanks for any replies guys

Is there a way I can find computer parts online by filling in the motherboard type and the parts needed?
Mother Board: (Dell) Foxconn LS-36 REV A02
Processor Pin Type: mPGA478B
# of Ram Slots: 4
Ram Volts: 2.5V
More Ram Info...idk what they are: on the ram slots it says 92 and on the ram switches it says: 04.128
Power Volts: 12V

I need ram sticks, a processor, a power box and a fan.
Recommend the cheap and the most reliable.
Thanks,

I am interested in buying parts but since I have only put drives in this one by myself I am unsure of what parts to actually buy and where to buy them. If someone can be so kind to list everything I would need to have a nice running computer minus the big $$, I would appreciate it. I can only buy OFFLINE at this time, like maybe a comp store or something. So anything in the area I live in would be good. I can give links to places if that helps.

Also if you can be specific about what the part is for that would be good too . I am not a gamer.
some links:

http://www.pcsinc.com/ - I bought my first comp from them 3 years ago and sadly I am still running on it, well, some of it since I did have parts put in.

http://www.bestbuy.com/ - everyone has one of these

I only have them 2 for now since I have not gotten parts from anyone else and I don't know who to trust.

So are there some of the UK members that could please advise me of places to buy the gear and at reasonable prices?

Yes mate, I use Aria, Overclockers, Scan and Ebuyer. All have a great choice of parts and I have not had any issues with them.

Can I take a Hard Drive and RAM from one computer and put it into another and how do I use both HHD one is 98 and the other is XP.On the 98 HHD I can't get online but can with the XP

Also in the computer with XP (thats the one I am wanting to put parts into) there are 3 slots for the memory how can i tell which sticks have more RAM So I can install more RAM

A:Take parts from one computer and put into another

You can install the ram ONLY if it is the correct type ie ddr1, ddr2, etc.

Next you can connect a drive to a working system and copy data files. If you think you will be able to boot the system from the drive you add, almost all of the time that will fail.

Your motherboard might be bad. I would take it to a computer shop and have it tested.

This problem has me stumped , my grandma's computer will not power up. I think she had a power surge because when I open up the power supply there was a burn mark on the circuit board and bottom of the circuit board case. The old power supply heated up so much a capacitor unsoldered itself.

I chatted with a Gateway tech support person and the said that is was the power supply and so we ordered one from him and installed it. The computer still would not boot up, I check that I had everything plugged in, the power supply switch was on, and that there is power to the outlet.

I did notice that there is a green LED on the motherboard that is lit up and that light was not lit up before the new power supply was installed.
If someone could give me ideas that would be great.

Thank for your help

A:Computer won't power up AT ALL (No fans)

It's not unusual for a dying power supply to take other parts down with it. The motherboard is generally included in the victim list. It's likely that you are looking at a torched board. However, there are a couple of things to check before you give up on it.

Look inside the case for loose wires, disconnected harnesses, etc. If you find nothing there, I would do an out of case build to eliminate shorts or a component problem. You can find instructions here: http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/580000-troubleshooting-guide-problem-builds.html
Try that with your new power supply, and report your results back.

The screen goes black after saying 'Shutting Down...' and then turns off but the fans and the lights stay on (it's a laptop by the way) i've tried all the SCONFIG stuff with services and startup, the only way I can turn it off is holding the power button, can anyone help please?

My power supply went and replaced it. I have tried the breadboarding method all except touching some two pins that was suggested because I don't have a mobo manual. I am working with HP 552x pavilion. Nothing seems to work except the fans in the machine. I'm working on my other computer and am afraid of trying out parts from the bad one in case it messes up the good one. I wanted to try the cpu in the other machine but not sure thats a good idea. I'm also wondering if the hard drives are fried because those I tried in the other machine and it will not boot. The bad pc is working with XP and the good PC is a windows ME would that make a difference? Or is the information in the cpu? I did not have to go far in the breadboard only had the power supply all the fans and one stick of ram the monitor and the power button hooked up. Nothing worked. No beeps no boot nothing on the screen. My mobo is an P4S-LA Pentium 4 Intel, 2.53GHz if that helps. I really need help.

A:Only the fans work in the computer

Don't know what that was you were doing but if it means you're confident that you can work with electrical circuits that can be damaged by static electricity . Then by all means try cold swapping parts like the CPU as for the HDD unless you have a "Docking Cradle" http://www.redferret.net/?p=9681 then you might find it difficult with two separate O/S especially since the damaged one has more "curry"

Hello my names kien I've got a custom computer with xp on it and have recently had some issues. My sisters ex-boyfriend built it for me for my birthday like 2 years ago. I've never had any problems until recently The fans were flickering on and off and now are continuously off. THere's one in the back and one on the side and another on the top also the one on the heat sync for my proccessor is shut down. I'm not running it atm for fear of overheating it or something. THe only fan that works is the one on my graphics card. I haven't taken it apart lately and it's been fine since last night when it started. Any help would be appreciated. btw I'm not much of a computer expert but i'm somewhat familiar. Thanks for your time

Hi, I got this computer from a friend to see if I could get it going, It doesn't appear anyone has ever opened it, and I suspect possible power surge may have damaged something.

The BIOS does not load and there are no beeps, as soon as I plug it in the fans start running and don't turn off...I need to hold the power button in to shut it down ( quick push doesn't do it).

I have unplugged everything and then back in one at a time, I reseated the RAM, removed the battery over night.

I removed the hard drive and tried it in a usb case and it works fine

I Plugged in a PCI video card to see if anything would happen, the video does not activate no matter what I do.
Here are the specs..

also some numbers from the system....

Front sticker:

RN6516606-0190

Motherboard:

stamped on board - K8MC51GLF
Sticker: "C3s6229790 K8MC51GLF"

stamped elseware: D33007
LanID 0040CA905A50

PS =180 watt
Just let me know how I can check if the board is fried, or possibly the ram...what else can I try.

thanks

Last night while on my desktop, I began to smell something weird. I stopped to sniff around and smelt something funny by my mini tower. I immediately turned off my PC and began to inspect it. As I was messing around, I noticed that the fan for my power supply was no longer moving. And another fan just below it was making some noise.

Is it most likely dust that is causing the problems?

A:Computer fans won't function.

personally i would change the power supply and the other fan
they do wear out and it is not worth the chance for the price of the parts

good luck

So I'm planning on building my new PC and have found a list of all of the parts that I would like to purchase. This will be my first build and wanted to check that A) all these parts are compatible and B) that these are the best parts I can get for the money.

To clarify I will be using the PC for mainly gaming and Photoshop/other design work. The prices below are the best prices I could find online too. (Budget is about £600)
Tower - Antec 900 Nine Hundred Ultimate Gamer Case - £82.99
Power Supply - Corsair 500 Watt CX500 V2 Builder Series 80 Plus Power Supply - £44.98
CPU - Intel Core i5 2500K - £166.97
Motherboard - ASRock Z68 Extreme3 - £100.00
RAM - Patriot G Series ‘Sector 5’ Edition 4GB - £24.49
Graphics card - Sapphire RADEON HD 6850 - £118.40
Hard drive - Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB - £61

Think this all I will need (apart from a disc drive) any other hidden costs/ parts that I am missing out too?

Thanks
