HP zr2740w Scratch Repair / Replacement

Q: HP zr2740w Scratch Repair / Replacement

I purchased an HP ZR2740W new from Microcenter at the end of 2013. Serial number CNT323W15H, I still have the receipt. According to HP's website, the warranty just expired on the 15th. I had an accident last night, and scratched the surface of the display pretty badly. There is white showing through the scratch when black is displayed. I was wondering what my repair / replacement options are through HP support. Thank you.

Preferred Solution: HP zr2740w Scratch Repair / Replacement

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The device can be repaied/serviced no doubt. If you have an accidental warranty then the service would be free of charge.

I have Airplane The Sequel II and i am selling it on Ebay because i got newer DVD which contains all series of Airplane.

I popped a room in Paltalk and asked how could i asked how could i repair scratch DVD by myself and one of member recommend me to polish it off with Turtle Wax polish. But i wasnt that stupid because im learning to drive so i know about car wax. I heard they're strong.

Other room recommend Data Doctor that i could look in Office Max or Depot. but i tried to google it and the result telling me about data recovery and cleanup.

Any idea and advice, can you help me, thanks

A:Solved: How to repair scratch DVD?

It depends on how deep the scratches are Rob,if really deep they cannot be repaired, but if light surface scratches the Turtle wax might do the job if used lightly, and I have also seen toothpaste recommended, they both contain a light abrasive and thats what takes the scratchs out ....

what is a ipod scratch remover for ipod classic 2 gen for it's chrome BACK

for minor scratches , not deep ones, please only respond if u have seen , used or witnessed it or have a vid of it.

A:iPod scratch remover for minor scratch?

The only thing I would trust is BRASSO, but if the chrome plating is thin (very likely) then care with ANY product is needed to avoid plishing the thin chrome away to the nickel housing (or plastic housing if it's only a chrome effect on plastic)

As an example, similar minor scratches on my spectacle lenses have been removed using brasso.

But, since we don't know if it really is chrome or (more likely) just a plastic chrome effect, care with anything is needed to polish. Personally, I would consider that the chances of making it worse would be higher than those of eliminating the scratches, and would simply leave well alone. It's only an audio player. It's only a sign of use.

Q: zr2740w

I have an HP ZR2740w that is well out of warranty. The display will just randomly turn off. However, the computer still thinks the display is active. I then have to press the power button to remove the display among the active displays (I have a total of three). Sometimes, if you turn it off and back on again, it works right away. Other times you have to wait. Some times, it won't come back on at all.  This same problem happens no matter what input, no matter what computer is used. I have tried with three different computers, on three different operating systems, using both DVI and Displayport. The behavior is exactly the same.  Any suggestions on what I need to do to repair this would be greatly appreciated.

The a large section of my monitor is practically broken (completely white with streaks of different colours) and there may be some internal issues (GPU in particular). Is there any way for my laptop to be either repaired/replaced? I'm sure the warranty is expried already so how much will this cost? Moreover, are there any repair/replacement centres near Sheffield?

I wanted to reply to a previous question, but the thread was marked read-only, hence I am opening a new topic. On windows 7 x64, I installed SP54516 which upgraded without change to Windows 10 x64. In device manager, it seems the only drivers are "C:\windows\system32\drivers\monitor.sys" (which is Microsoft Windows 10 x64 standard monitor driver and "C:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\HP_ZR2740w.icm (which is just a color profile). Just extract the folder "Files" from the patch (with Winzip, winrar of 7z) and point Device Manager to that location when installing/updating the driver.  Driver is version with date 23-Mar-11.  While that is very old, it does not matter since it's just a color profile. Good luck, sorry for those who had trouble.Ewald

I've had problems with my PCs fans in the past and I've always had to go to a PC shop to have them replaced when they started acting up. I have heard, however, that the process of replacing the fan is easy and a lot cheaper to just do yourself. The fan that I am having trouble with in this instance is the case fan and not the processor fan. In fact, the hardware check (del at boot-up) shows that the fan in question is not spinning at all even though I am hearing it make some funky noises from time to time Anywho, is this a process that is the same from PC to PC or is there a site I will have to visit to determine the procedure/parts needed for my particular case?

As always, any given help will be greatly appreciated.

So my computer won't turn on now thanks to the infamous faulty hinge design which ended up breaking the plastic on the left side and one of the little bolts ended up causing the complete malfunction of the fan.The last message I got was that the computer had to shut down because due to the fact that the fan no longer worked. So now my question is, where can I get this fixed? How much does HP charge? It is out of warranty but still this shouldn't have happened, they should at least repair my computer for low cost. It really is a great computer but how much to get this fixed? Who can fix this fan and get it running again?I tried and can't get all the pieces taken apart at the keyboard. I need to replace the fan and maybe some of the other plastic pieces though I heard HP way overcharges. I would rather fix this excellent computer than have to buy a new one. Also where can someone find used parts for these dv7's?

Is there a Windows 10 Driver for the HP ZR2740w monitor that will provide a resolution of something more than 1280x720? We are currently using a DVI connection from a docking station to the monitor. Thanks.

A:Windows 10 Driver for HP ZR2740w Monitor

@SpaceCoast Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! The only monitors that need drivers are those that have embedded USB ports, or other such ports that need drivers. I see you're running Win10. Did the PC come preinstalled with Win10? Or, did you upgrade it from a prior OS to Win10?This is important as PC that were updates from prior OSs are often stuch with the generic video drivers that MS provides during the Upgrade, and if that is your situation, it's a video driver problem, not a monitor problem. If you did Upgrade your PC to Win10, please provide the detailed product number so we can check for HP Win10 drivers for it. We can proceed when you provide the answers.

That is just the glass. If the underlying screen is cracked you need it, too. But if that is all that is broken buy the part and take it to a cell phone repair place. They have much better skills at replacing touchscreen glass, they do it all the time and it might be cheaper, too.

A:Waiting for repair - missing replacement parts

Unfortunately, some of the cheap Chinese made parts used in Lenovo laptops of late are of such low quality that they fail quite often, so even Lenovo cannot keep up with demand, and with the Thinkpad 460, its noisy defective fan issue is well known, so it will proably take some time to get it fixed.

Hi   The problem is that when connecting a usb c cable to a external monitor, the external monitor flashes every 5 second. The external monitor is not the problem because we tested it out with other devices with USB C  and they worked fine and are not experiencing this issue. The cable is not the problem because it is a brand new cable and we tested it out with other devices with USB C and they worked fine and are not experiencing this issue. Everything is up to date on this laptop. We had a technician come out to replace the suspected usb c port and it still is experiencing the problem,TWICE. We sent it to an offsite repair facility and it is still experiencing the same issue.  This is unacceptable. This repair process has been going on for about 3 months. We paid for extended warranty. We lost  3 months of work and productivity time due to this issue resulting in lost revenue. Now you are saying to send it in for repair again. How much more time are we going to be sending it in for repair. Our company spends thousands of dollars on Lenovo equipment because we trust in the product and the support we receive.  Please connect me to your supervisor so I can discuss with them about this issue. I REQUEST A REPLACEMENT OF A DIFFERENT MODEL.

I actually DO suspect the display. Could be handshaking.. could be a number of things. Without make and model numbers, however, I can't really help you. Have you tried the same computer on a different brand of display? Especially one that is NOT a 4k display. Just a suggestion.

I am experiencing the following issue and hope that someone in the forum as an idea / suggestion. When I have the screen connected via via display port cable with the docking station and I have my laptop docked, I dont get any signal and the screen keeps black. This is independent of the Operating System - I used Windows 7, Windows 8. When my laptop is docked but I attach the display port cable directly to the laptop it works without any problem. I have also realized that with other displays 23'' or 24'' the setup with the docking station works without a problem. So it has to be a cominbination between UltraSlim Docking Station and ZR2740w screen. Any advise what else should be tried?

A:HP ZR2740w and HP Folio 9470m / UltraSlim Docking Station

Update:  After calling HP technical support I and being bounced among various clueless offshore tech support reps, I finally landed on the US-based workstation support department.  Justin looked up the problem and identified it as a known issue and is replacing my monitor cable with one that HP says will work.   Also, in the meantime there is a workaround that I had figured out.  If you don't use the displayport port on the ultraslim docking station but pug the cable directly into the computer it works fine.  There is some inconvienence associated with this as you have to plug it in every time you dock and unplug it every time you undock (and of course the cable always falls behind the desk while you are doing this), but it is okay as a solution while I am waiting for the new cable to arrive.  Will update this post after it arrives and report whether it works.

I've went into the hidden applications folders an directly & indirectly messed it up . All my own doing .
Don't ask me why I did this; I don't have a good answer. Everything else functions otherwise, I still have access to Cortana, and the OS is snappy.

So specifically Maps ( I like offline Maps ) , Store, and Calculator ( I also used the Calculator a lot ) ;
Win 10-Photo viewer , and a Bing Application or two
( Finance , etc ) are not functioning
( will not appear , or missing ) .
Mostly a domino effect, from intentionally removing other Apps , which played on others. Example, if you were to remove Groove Music, it will effect iHeart radio. etc.
( I didn't remove Grove Music ).

The Store and X-box App ; I completely deleted ; all of their files are not present anymore .

(( I used a combination of third party applications to locate and delete files ;with View Hidden files checked , I used - Unlocker, Revo Uninstaller-( which gets files, and registry entries ) , Search Engine Everything and Space Sniffer .
I added Unlocker, to the right click menu through the registry , which allowed for deleting of files in bulk . Run as administrator , etc. Folders I could not access; I could through the Unlocker window.
Then sweep up with CCleaner, which Windows tends to try and prevent from running . ))

But if you want Maps to function, and update, you need The Store as far as I know.

So lenovo replaced my motherboard because of a defect HDMI port. A:X1 Yoga fingerprint reader (Synaptics WBDI) stopped working after repair / motherboard replacement

Okey!  Few rounds around the Internet got me absolutely nowhere. Lenovo said that it was a known problem and the only way to fix it is to do a factory reset.... BULLS** is my response to that. Anything software related can be fixed without nuking your system. So i refused to give up and with a bit of trial and error i found a way. You have to tie your Microsoft account to a pin AGAIN! Even if you already had one. I guess the account is tied to your hardware somehow. Here are simple steps to fix it:  1. Make shure to Activate and Resett fingerprint reader in the BIOS Reboot and enter the BIOS (f1 during boot) Go to Security > fingerprint Make sure Predesktop Authentication is [Enabled]And to to "Reset Fingerprint Data" and press [Enter] to reset Save and exit   2. Make shure drivers are up to date and working Run Lenovo Vantage (windows store) to make sure your running the latest drivers for everything including the fingerprint reader. You can also download the drivers directly form Lenovos product support page, but Vantage actually works (so Kudos to Lenovo for that one). After that check you device manager if the driver is running currently. Like this: (Start menu > type "device manager")Like this... My HP Notebook - 15-r264dx TouchSmart (ENERGY STAR) - Will not power on. After dissasembling it, I found that the connection between the small board containing the power button and the 4 wire ribbon cable that leads back to the motherboard was broken. I tried to fix it by pressing the four wires onto their contacts, and pressing the power button then. That did not work, probably indicating that once the connection is broken, it cannot be put back. So I either need to find a fix for that, or purchase a replacement part. The part is: TMT YA-4A1  54V-0  E114139 (It would need to be both the power button chip and the ribbon cable, connected.) ps. The computer works aside from the power button malfunction, as I touched two of the contact wires in the ribbon cable together and it turned on. Also, I do not know whether it is a 64 bit or 32 bit, but I doubt that will have any weight on the solution.

A:Where can I purchase a replacement part/repair existing part...

Hi, Vendors now only sell the whole part. Please check the following list which shows all availabe parts for your machine:     http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=L0T71UA If you only needed a small piece, you may have to buy whole part or working out part for that piece and search on eBay. Regards.

I've been unable to access my custom build computer since around 5:00 yesterday. I chose to restart my computer at around that time just because it was slowing up a little and I usually do that to help, I had not installed any updates or new programs since 2 days ago when there had been a few windows updates.

Upon returning to my computer I noticed that it had been unable to startup and had gone straight into system repair with it being 'unable to repair this computer automatically.' I rebooted several times and noticed that it was not a visible BSOD but as soon as the 'starting windows' icon began to appear it went straight into startup repair. I tried to boot into safe mode, tried to load previous good configuration and all of the other advanced recovery options (including system restore/image and many command prompts).

You might be better off doing a clean install. You won't need to enter the key as its already been associated with your computer.

Backup any files you want to keep first.

I am not certain but it may take the install files from the recovery partition (perhaps someone can confirm this), I know this worked with a recent HP job I did.

(Just posting this here so people in the future can find it.) I replaced my motherboard and just wanted to leave this here for future reference to some poor soul who has to do the same.
If you replace the motherboard on your Dell Studio XPS 8000, (service tag 3L8DHK1) and you need a new motherboard you can use an INTEL DQ57TM, it's compatible and I did a successful transplant. Your processor is an INTEL Core-i5 750 CPU 2.67GHZ it uses a SOCKET LGA1156. It uses DDR3 memory.
Once you take out your old motherboard and disconnect all those usb and audio wires and the power button wires. To hook up your USB front jacks, audio jacks etc.... here's which blocks go where:
Wires from the audio jacks and usb ports go into these colored block connectors, and those connectors get plugged into those little rows of pins/jumpers called Internal Headers. Every motherboard manual tells you about them. Grab the manual for your new motherboard and it'll tell you where your audio1, usb1, usb2, usb3, usb4 Header connectors are they look like 2 rows and 5 collumns of short little pins. (They almost always have 1 or 2 pins missing on purpose.)
the wires leading to a YELLOW BLOCK gets plugged into the audio1 header on your new motherboard, it's for audio jacks on top of the computer
wires with the WHITE BLOCK gets plugged into the usb3 headers on your motherboard (they are for the usb jacks on the very top of the computer tower)
wires with the GREEN BLOCK gets plugged into ... Read more

Check for an SSD firmware upgrade, then try some of these steps if you haven't yet.

SSD Alignment - Windows 7 Forums
SSD Tweaks and Optimizations in Windows 7
SSD - Install and transfer the Operating System

I'd also run a few Startup Repairs to see if it finds anything to repair or otherwise sort.

However if this isn't sufficient you may need a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which steps are the same for retail and assure a perfect install if you stick with them.

First I'd check for Update or reset the BIOS to defaults.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 computer, which I ordered in mid-2002; it's still a good system, 2.0 gh Pentium 4 processor; 512 gig RAM, 60 gig hard drive.

I have had to have the hard drive replaced recently, which means that I'm starting over from scratch; they saved my data, but not my software. The techies loaded AVG Free Version as an antivirus.

In various postings on the hardware board, in which I tried to solve my virus problems myself (thus the new hard drive), various people recommended SmartCop, a free anti-virus program, and AntiVir, another freeware program.

What do you folks think? Is one clearly better than the other? Is there a commercial program worth paying for that is better than any or all of these?

And what about spyware/adware? I know that there are programs like AdAware out there, and I think I got my virus infestation from downloading a new version of WebRoot's SpySweeper software.

What's the best anti-spyware/adware program? As with everything else, it's better if it's free, but on the other hand I paid for SpySweeper, so I wouldn't mind paying for a program that worked.

Bottom line: Help me through this, folks!!

Thanks, Caleb

I have never heard of SmartCop. I use AVG and so do a couple other million people. Many people use Avast as well. They are the two best Free antivirus out there.

If its not connected to the internet, an error comes up that says something like "can't download application"

Compaq Persario 700
Win Xp
not sure of whats in it

A:Scratch off tickets pop-up

Please do this on the affected computer:

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please show us its contents.

Most of what it lists will be harmless, so don't fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Hello, I was wondering on how to go about removing a very small scratch on my monitor. It seems that the scratch is only on the anti-glare finish on it. Its nothing real serious, just wondering if anyone know a good way of making it less apparent or complete removal.

Btw, its a NEC CRT flatscreen .

A:Monitor scratch

If I were you, I would pretend the scratch just doesn't exist. More than likely, if you f*** with it, you'll regret it.

My computer crashed last week, when I bought a win xp home ed. from staples and loaded it onto my computer it put it in drive (D) recovery and not drive (C) where it should have gone, now I've got all these problems with my drive (D) low free space and no way to fix it. All my music and pictures are saved on back up disks now I either need to start from scratch but don't know how. Can someone either give me a step by step guide to doing all of this and making sure that this time it loads on my hard drive (C) this time, thank you.

ok i need to delete the hard drive but i dont want to delete windows and stuff because long story short i dont have the reinstallation disks... i dont want to erase the drivers or any thing needed to operate the computer as i normally would. lke to go on the internet and play games an stuff... basically return it to the condition it was when it was new... but here is the major dilema... i cant get to desk top... the farthest i can get to is the part where i would enter command prompts, (which i know close to nothing about, other than to type exactly as a tech helper tells me to). is this even possible or am i better of buy ing a new hard drive... also does a new hard drive come with windows and stuff pre installed?

Did your computer come with a boot disc? A boot disc will restore the system to factory state, meaning it will be like you just took it out of the box. Windows and all the software that came with it will still be there; you will just have to reinstall any Windows updates that you put on after you got the computer. My Toshiba came with a boot disc, and when I used it, I never went passed the title screen; I inserted the boot disc (before booting up the computer), and while it booted, I held the 'C' key on the keyboard. The computer loaded the boot disc, and all I had to do was follow the on screen instructions.

Each computer has a different way of doing this. What kind of computer do you have? If you didn't get a boot disc, there is probably another way to restore the computer to factory settings; HPs have a place on the HD that you can access to restore the system. Check your users manual, the boot disc cover (if you have a boot disc), the manufactorer's website, or call their tech support to find out how to do this.

As for buying a new HD, I don't think they come with windows installed...and I wouldn't do that unless your current one is completly unsalvagable. Try the factory restore first. I've done it twice...it works!!

Building the OS from scratch seem to me to be the best way to go when building a new computer. As time goes on after a year two or three the OS seem to get sick such as my auto run don't work no more and after Microsoft work on it for 3 hours it really don't run no more. Bugs, jitters, shakes and just old age. So after I build the computer I think I'm just going to build the OS from scratch. I've did it both ways, from scratch and just move it to the new computer and after I just reload the OS and rebuild it I feel so much better not to mention the computer runs like a high school student instead of someone like me that just took sum Vitamins.
