I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have tried shutting down my notebook but then the screen stayed blank but the light on the power button was still on. I then pressed the power button for 5 seconds so that it would turn off but it hasn't. I have tried this many times and left the notebook to sit overnight in hopes that it would sort itself out if it had crashed. However, when i woke up this morning the light was still on. It means that i can't access my notebook and turn it on if i can't even turn it off properly. The screen is staying black and hasnt changed. My notebook is brand new as i only bought it yesterday

This just started happening. My T420s won't turn on using ON button -- it blinks a bit but nothing happens -- but it will turn on if I push and hold down the down-arrow button. The only problem is I have to keep holding the down-arrow button down. As soon as I lift off the down-arrow button it crashes. Wierd I know. Any ideas? I mainly want to use this laptop in the expansion tray with an external monitor so I am thinking of trying to put a pad on the down arrow button that a closed top will hold down but this is a bit of a kluge...

A:T420s won't turn on using ON button but will turn on if I push and hold down arrow button

OK ... first I gotta know .... what made you try holding down the down-arrow key?    Does the T420s have the "paper clip reset" hole on the bottom? This is the procedure for an X1:  https://is.wfu.edu/help-articles/hard-reset-for-lenovo-x1-carbon/ My T440s and T480 both have the hole....the hole is not in the same place on all the machines of course, but you get the idea.Or maybe you already tried this trick?

Hi every one,
Recently I purchased new PC,
After installing windows XP Pro SP3 I found that there is a missing button in Power option properties. The missing button is (When I press the sleep button on my computer), I can find only (When I press the power button on my computer).
My system configuration is as follow
Mother board Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Rev 1.1
My graphic card is ATI Radeon HD 5670
Windows XP SP3
RAM 4Gb Kingston DDRII
CPU Core 2 Quad 2.66 GHz
It worth saying that I can shutdown, hibernate or put my PC into sleep mode, so the functions are working but only the button is missing.
I will appreciated very much if some can advise me how to restore the missing button. Is there some option in BIOS that will enable this button?
I contacted Gigabyte customer support, but they directed me to Microsoft, I also contacted ATI but they directed me to Microsoft or BIOS settings. In my BIOS I can't find any option that may affect this button. Any advise will be appreciated
Best regards

A:[SOLVED] Button of (When I press sleep button) is not available in my Power option pr

Does the case actually have a separate Sleep Button? I suspect it's not even connected, as the motherboard manual doesn't show a connection for a Sleep Button, only a Power Button.
Windows Power Options won't list it, as it doesn't exist.

If you have a Sleep Button on the keyboard, it might not be listed in Power Options either. That would be up to the Driver software to add that option. You may have to use the software that came with the keyboard to configure the sleep button on the keyboard.

Friend of mine has got problem with his desktop (XP SP2) , when he starts the PC it boots normally till it reaches where it shows windows XP logo then the screen gets blank (i.e he can not see the login name for users).

What he used to do: is press the sleep button on the wireless keyboard, then after that press the hardware switch on/off button (not the reset button) on the tower of the hard box.

After pressing switch on/off button, he gets directly (pay attention to this) to the login screen where he can see the usernames for all users.

He has to do this procedure every time he would like to boot the desktop

A:Press sleep button and switch on/off button to be able to see login screen

I'm trying to fix a computer with a strange problem. It's kinda old, and runs Windows ME. It's one of my dad's coworker's computers, they say it stopped working during a lightning storm.

So, I plug in the power to the computer and it suddenly fans start whirling... But no display on the moniter, no POST or anything. So I try to turn it off with the on and reset buttons, but no go. When I press in or release a power button the moniter kind of "flexes" or has this little surge you may call it effect. But nothign else. I think the harddrive is spinning and the cd drives are lighting up, but only after I start pressing the power buttons. And I did try holding the power button for > 10 seconds but still won't turn off. The little light on the motherboard turns on so it's getting power.

What's going on here? Video card dead? Motherboard freaking out?

A:Computer won't turn off, no signal to moniter.

well since you say lightning hit it, it could be both. if you have another graphics card to test, subsititue one you know works with this one and see if it is just the graphics card. if that does not work, personally i would assume the mobo is shot from the lightning ;(
it might be a good time to invest in a surge protector/battery backup system...

Greetings. So I recently purchased a used Y50-70 and one of the first things I noticed about it was the left and right buttons on the touch pad require either a strong tap to register, or a long press (about 1 second) before Windows recognizes the key press. The trackpad works perfectly otherwise, even tapping for a left click on the pad itself works great. It doesn't feel like there is something under the button, but I do believe it is hardware related as this behavior persisted through a fresh install of Windows (ie. Windows install when I got the laptop and the reinstalled Windows). It was also present during the Windows install GUI which leads me to think it is hardware related somehow. Any ideas on what the problem could be? I thought this may be a common issue with a solution somehwere on the net but I have yet to find one... Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Now i thought this was a temporarily thing but it happens everytime now. Now, i recently did a bois update on the 15-af068sa and when i press the power button, the Hp logo comes on screen but doesn't go after that (no little spinning dots)so i hold the power button down so the laptop goes off and then when  i press the button again, normal boot up procedure.  Has anyone come up with the same problem?

I have a custom built computer, been working fine for two years. Comes last week, a storm passed by my house and power went out. When I come home from work I try to turn it on and no joy. I remember that I had 7 years warranty on my corsair AX1200i PSU. So I did a warranty claim, comes today and put new PSU and still no joy. Things I have tried are, re-seat the RAM also CPU, only 1 RAM. And no joy. When I press the power button theres nothing. No lights no leds. When I press the self test button several times, once in a while I see lights and fans working. I tried Memok on motherboard and no joy. One thing I did notice was when I remove the 4 pin CPU cable from PSU, the self test works instantly but the power button still doesnt work. Nothing, also did jumper on power l, reset CMOS. Could this be my CpU fried? Or the motherboard? I still need to take it out from case and check for capacitors etc..

Specs:3930k i7 CPU LGA 2011 6 core.
Asus x79 TUF motherboard.
G. Skill sniper ram 32GB{4x8Gb)

4TB storage drive

258Gb Samsung pro ssd

Corsair AX 1200i

Corsair H100i Cooler.

I think ill just send in the mobo tor replacement since it has 5 years warranty. I hope its not my CPU...

Thanks for the help in advanced.

Ok so here's the situation :

my friend's PC suddenly stopped working something like a month ago. He took it to some local computer repair shop who diagnosed a dead mobo and PSU.

They told him his mobo was now impossible to find and since I could get my hands on one fairly easily he asked me to repair it for him.

So basicly I changed his PSU and ordered a new INTEL D865GLC Socket 478 (his mobo)... I just received the damn thing and even with the brand new mobo the PC does the exact same **** :

I press the power button and absolutely nothing happens, nothing! Even the fans stay idle . What could be the cause? I even tried shorting the POWER SW pins with a screwdriver to make sure it wasn't the case Power Button but in vain.

I tried swapping mem sticks, changing PSU, tried removing HDD, DVD drive and GPU... no help there either.

Could it be a dead CPU?

Yesterday I bought a "N150 Netgear Wireless Micro USB Adapter WNA1000M", to give it its full name. No, this is NOT an advert, the thing is very small but very irritating - just like the donkey in Shrek. So don't buy one unless you must. No, not an advert for Shrek either - the first one was good but the follow ups were crap.

When I came to install it, after a huge amount of CD drive thrashing (why? my CD reader not good enough for you punk?) it finally gave me 120 seconds to press a button on the router (it also has a tiny button on the thing itself so there are TWO buttons to press)

Some questions:

1. How was I supposed to press a button on the router in a hotel? Especially in 120 seconds. Like a scene in a movie - "we have a 120 seconds before this thing goes off". As it happened, the router in the holiday home we are renting in Montana was accessible and I pressed every button I could see and it flashed in annoyance but the internet connection was finally made. No, this is NOT an advert for Montana either - the snow is crap right now.

2. Why does it want me to press a button on the router? When I first turned on my laptop it didn't ask me to press no button!

Thanks in anticipation
PS You can buy waverings on Amazon. Only kidding, only kidding. And yes - I am irritated at being accused of placing an advert in my first post

I set my Dell Inspiron laptop (Windows 8) to sleep after 15 minutes (never to hibernate) whether on AC power or battery.
This allows me to take out my laptop from my bag, open the lid, enter my pin and get to work quickly.
One thing that baffles me is that when on AC power, I have to press the power button to "wake" the laptop out of sleep
instead of just pressing a key on the keyboard. The power button is this tiny chicklet metal button that is awkward to press.
Any way to set Windows 8 to wake on keypress when on AC power?

A:power button press to come out of sleep

You do not find it in Power Options to change power button from doing it? Only know ways if using an external USB device. Should be a sleep button or one of the F buttons or Fn.

Hey @pooja_269,  First and foremost, I want to welcome you to the HP Support Forums! Here at the forums, you have many community members that will help you toward a solution.  Please make sure that the AC adapter cable is not plugged into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source. It should be directly into a wall outlet. Please make sure that you do not have any external devices connected (mouse, keyboard, usb devices, etc.) as these can cause issues.  Could you please try performing a hard reset? Are you using the AC power adapter that came with the computer? When you turn on the Notebook, does the power LED stay lit? Or does it shut off?Did you receive any error messages before this happened?Do you have any beep codes or blinking LED lights? Have you done a BIOS reset? When you press the power button and the power LED glows, do you hear the fan spinning? If yes, but the display remains blank, see Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank.  I would like to provide you with a document called Computer Does Not Start. A:What happens when I press the sleep or standby mode button?

All programs cease to function, the computer enters a suspended state similar to "off" but with a faster recovery time.

Be aware that many applications simply do not like being suspended and may behave unreliably when resumed.

Its usually more reliable on laptops, which have been designed with this feature in mind.

I've got a 1-2 years old Dell XPS-8300 pc and when I press the button to open the disk (CD) drive nothing happens. The only way to open it is using the Eject function on the computer which is a bit long-winded especially as the Format function is next to it. Oddly if it's already open pressing the button will close it.

Any fixes? The fact that it responds to closing suggests it's not a physical button issue. Could it be having the terrible twos tantrum?

A:Disk drive won't open when I press the button

I have had this problem on many occasions and now have a straightened paper clip nearby to poke into the small hole next to the cd / dvd tray door. Press the eject button on the tray door and poke the clip into the tiny hole this will usually open the drive door which is a hassle but better than listening to the tray trying its hardest to open and failing. If you don't poke the clip in fast enough the tray usually wont open but just repeat with the clip already inserted into the hole works for me. Not very techy but it does the job, you could also replace the drive of course. The clip method only applies if the tray is trying to open, if there is a problem with the pc not doing this then the clip method will not work so sorry if this is the case.

Hello, I recently noticed that the mute light (located on F5) had stopped turning on when I pressed it. Mute works, but the light doesn't come on. I understand, from previous posts, that this can be because of problems with the Audio Driver. However, I recently had to uninstall the default Audio Driver because of issues with this (also well known with HP products.) Is there anyway of getting the mute light back, without having to resort to the old Audio Driver?  Thanks.

Title says it all really. I haven't been able to shutdown my PC for a few months now without holding down the power button for a few seconds. Okay, so I know so little about tech that I'm not even sure this is a hardware question, but it seems most likely. Basically, I know there's a button on the keyboard of most PCs that stops the keys (or maybe just the mouse?) from working. I only know this because I did it by accident once and freaked out because I thought I broke my new laptop. I want to do it now because I work a lot on small tables, and its useful to be able to highlight over my keys without pressing them all.

I thought it was that button that resembles a rectangle with two small rectangles, like a diagram of a computer mouse, except it has a line over it like a stop sign. On my keyboard, it's over F6. Only when I press it, and when I hold it down, nothing at all happens.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks guys!!!

Open Powerpoint and search Help for "action button". You can also configure buttons to play a sound, run a program, open a picture, etc.

I have two new Windows 7 computers (laptops) that I run 3D design software on. I have multiple programs that utilize a simultaneous pressing of both left and right mouse buttons (not double-click). This command goes unrecognized in my software and is used extensively to go into 3d rotational manipulation.

I also have a mouse that has the central scroll-wheel button that will activate this feature, but the dual button press also goes unrecognized from from the mouse. My old XP computer recognized this input just fine. I have already been through mouse properties and found nothing obvious. I have also checked for updated mouse drivers.

A:Simultaneous mouse button press unrecognized.

Most of the well known software companies have Forums on their websites. I think it would be best to ask your question in one of those forums to get answers from people experienced with the software. I'm sure someone has already solved it for W7 if it is something essential to using the program, and not some trick that you stumbled upon that was only a unique system situation.

Please could someone point me to a way of making it so that when I press the Power Button on my Windows 10 desktop that the computer will power down without me having to click with the mouse to turn off various programs or clicking the "restart anyway" button that appears. I managed to do this with windows XP in the past. I think it might have been a registry alteration?

Thanks for any advice?

A:Switch off PC without mouse clicking when press the Power Button

You can press power button any time to power down the computer . But it is not recommended .for several reasons one is that something may be running in the back ground The proper way to shut down a computer is to click the windows button in the bottom left then click power then it gives you three options -Restart, Sleep, Shut down. That is the only way I have ever known to power down a computer

This problem is NOT a Blue Screen problem. But it is a crash of sorts. First of all my icons are blank. Until I touch the right mouse button. Then when I touch the right mouse, the cursor changes into a never ending hour glass which only stops when I stop and reboot Windows 8.1 . I have a feeling I need to re-install. But I'll lose alot of apps. Maybe I should just wait until I get my USB backup drive. In the mean time could you please look at my printout and see if anything looks strange?
