XPS 13 9350 Tape Sticking from Trackpad

Q: XPS 13 9350 Tape Sticking from Trackpad

On my new (refurbished) XPS 13 9350 there is a piece of tape sticking out of the trackpad's top left corner (see picture). I was wondering what is the best way to remove it. I tried to lightly pull it out but it didn't work. I could cut it with a razor but that may leave scratches no matter now careful I am. Or I could open up the computer but I am not sure whether or not I can access to the trackpad.
Did anyone else have a similar issue?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
Lately I have noticed that the buttons on my trackpad no longer work reliably. This has slowly been getting worse and when using it last night I noticed the trackpad is noticeably bulging out now (a few mm). From a small bit of reading it seems this might be some issue with the batter bulging? what can I do about this? The system warranty ran out in Feb 2017, so am I out of luck here?
Thanks for any suggestions!
Chris

Hi,
My less than 2 year old (bought in December 2015) XPS 13 9350 has a noticeable bulge underneath the bottom left side of the keyboard that's also warping the trackpad. You can see it in the below photos. I'm worried that this is the battery and that it could explode or catch fire at any time.
What should I do about this?
Thank you.

A:XPS 13 9350 keyboard & trackpad bulging from swollen battery?

Remove the battery from the system immediately and get it out of your home or office. Then contact Dell - they are apparently replacing many of these out of warranty and repairing the systems if need be.

I have removed the original Win10 and reinstalled from scratch Win8.1 Pro on my Dell xps 13 9350. I have downloaded all the possible drivers from the official "Dell driver download" page and run them all in the order suggested. Also the BIOS is updated. However, there are still several devices not recognized: 1. There is no Win8.1 driver for the trackpad. The one of Win10 is not compatible with Win8.1, so the trackpad is currently recognized in the device manager as PS/2-compatible. Moral: the scroll function does NOT work!! 2. Under "other devices" I get two "PCI data acquisition and signal processing controller" icons and one "unknown device" flagging "there are no compatible drivers for this device" 3. After installing the latest drivers (February updates -not sure which one in particular created the problem) I now get also under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" and icon with "Standard SATA AHCI Controller" flagging "this device cannot start. (Code 10)" While I can live with 2. and 3., the issue 1. with the trackpad is VERY annoying, and it would be great if Dell would provide a driver for it (btw., this model is now more than 3 months on the market). PS: the February update seems has fixed part of the problems with the WiFi and with mouse. I could solve them temporarily in January by installing other drivers of another model (Dell xps 15 9550), in particular these two: Communications_Driver_G1... Read more

A:Dell xps 13 9350 downgrade windows 8.1, trackpad not working and other issues.

Hope this helps for items 1 and 2, not sure about item 3...
For item 1, have you tried using the Windows 7 touchpad driver?  Download link below.  When you run the downloaded Dell Update Package, choose Extract (not Install), and create a folder to extract the files.  Then right click Setup.exe, choose Properties, then click the Compatibility tab, and then check the Compatibility box and choose Windows 7.  This should allow the driver to install successfully.
For item 2, you'll need to install the Serial I/O driver, which isn't listed for Windows 8.1, but you can find it in the Dell Driver Pack for Windows 8.1, link below also.  You'll need something like 7zip to extract the CAB file, but you'll find the driver buried in there.  Once you have the driver pack extracted to a folder, you can go into Device Manager, then right click the PCI Data Acquisition device, then choose Update Driver. Then choose Browse, and point it to the extracted folder and make sure include subfolders is checked.  The driver should then install.

My brand-new P50 laptop was behaving as though the left trackpad button was sticking. When single-tapping the left trackpad button, it would behave as though the "click n' drag" setting was enabled: the trackpad would override the keyboard, preventing me from typing until either the trackpad was moved again or the button was clicked again.  I work for Microsoft and have always used Lenovo products without ever having encountered an issue before, so I was more than a little surprised. I called Lenovo support, and they were less than helpful. In the end, they suggested that the trackpad itself was defective. The laptop was orvernighted to the repair depot in the southeast. Naturally, there was a three-week wait for parts - despite this being a model currently in production. Finally, after causing a stink (this is, after all, my primary work machine), a helpful support tech located parts at another facility. Another week later, and my laptop was back - with the SAME problem continuing to surface. This time I dug deeper, looking into the various trackpad settings, tweaking the various "accidental interrupt" delay settings, verifying that the "click to drag" feature was disabled, and running various diagnostics on the trackpad itself. The one interesting thing I noted was that the button-stickiness only seemed to happen in applications (IE, Word, etc.) - the button "stickiness" didn't happen when scrolling through Windows... Using my mouse, it sticks on occasion. Then I can't move it around the desktop. After a short wait it unlocks and operates normally.

This has happened with my Intellamouse and a standard
no-wheel mouse.

This also happens with my keyboard on occasions.

Any idea what could be happening? Also, how do I
troubleshoot this?

A:Sticking Mouse

Some possiblities:

You have too much running in the back ground - "ctrl+alt+del"
keys....you will see a box showing whats running (This does not always show everything that is running though).

Spyware running - download "spybot" type the name in your browser search to find on the web, run it with all the on-line updates.

Your anti-virus is scanning, especially if you have an anti-virus that is set to scan every action going on within your system.

You have a virus - If you do not have an anti-virus software download any trial type just to scan...
there are some on-line virus scanners
but off hand I do not recall which...possibly Norton or Mcafees.

Occationally, the video drivers become corrupt through playing not well made games or other software that likes to take control of the graphics on your system.

Type "free registy cleaner" in you browser.....select one and clean the registry with it.

Clean out your "Temp" and "Temporary Internet Files" Folder.

I have been experiencing ongoing audio problems. Frequently when I bring my M35x-S163 out of hibernation or just when I do a hard boot, my audio for programs does not work. I have the sound driver now on my desktop so I re-initialize, by double clicking the "sm35xsndx" driver. This works all the time - and I don't ever have to reboot! It just works. Even when I do reboot after running the driver it happens again! Now, how do I get my laptop to initialize this driver automatically once and for all so it stays and I don't loose audio? Where do I place it in the registry? This is driving me crazy!

Hopefully I didn't miss an obvious topic solving this, but I searched around on the website and couldn't find anything to help.

I run a Acer TravelMate 2430. It's about three years old. The problem started suddenly a day or two ago. I had operated the laptop the night before for several hours, did not (knowingly) download anything, and did not go to any unusual or pornographic websites. The next morning, I start up my laptop and when it gets to the welcome screen the mouse starts out fine, but rapidly becomes unusable, where it starts skipping across large portions of the screen and then ceases to respond almost entirely, though if I scrible around on the touch pad enough, the cursor will twitch a little. The keyboard is also unresponsive. The one time I managed to click on my user name to input the password, I got about halfway through typing when it stopped responding. The little line indicating I could type was still flashing, but I could not input anything else through the keyboard. Even the power button seems unresponsive. I hit it briefly to tell the computer to shut down (since I couldn't move the mouse to do so), and nothing happened for several minutes, so I held it down for several seconds. While this should have cut the power and shut down instantly (the way you aren't supposed to shut down a computer), nothing happened. However, if I hold down the power button long enough, it will act as if I briefly hit the power button and shut down normally... Read more

First of all. I want to say, I'm sorry if I am posting on the wrong site for this problem. I looked and looked
and couldn't figure out where else to post this.

I did an incredibly stupid [email protected]@ thing-I spilled some pop on my laptop keyboard and now the left side is really hard to use. The keys are hard to push down and the left click on the mouse pad is also hard to use. When it happened I immediately turned the laptop over and then shut it off and left it turned over all night. It doesn't seem to have affected the computer itself, just really stiff keys. I cleaned the keyboard on the outside with some antibacterial wipes, but have no idea how to fix this other problem!

Hi all

With regular monotony lately, I'm finding a tan coloured rectangular "bar" in the upper left quadrant of my monitor. Measures about 7.5 x 1.5 cm (3" x 0.5") Always the same size and colour, and always in the same place on the desktop screen. I've tried to establish which site I went to that leaves this "piece" behind, but I'm not at all sure.

Can anyone suggest what causes just this "piece" to remain behind, why it doesn't get removed with the rest of the screenimages, and more important what can I do about it? Rebooting works, but who wants to reboot so much - not me! ? It's only on the desktop - not on any screens I view.

Running XP home with SP2, an Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 card and a 19" Mecer CRT monitor. I update Norton 2009 daily and regularly update AdAware and Spyware doctor; full scans once a week so I'm pretty sure it's not Malware or Viral.

Thanks

I can't seem to get the background images like I wanted, I know you can modify High contrast theme for lower contrast but not totally. Also Start Menu I don't see it like windows 7 in Windows 10 preview. I even installed ClassicShellSetup_4_0_4 to use the windows 7 old style start menu. I really don't know how to explain this, but the default start menu in windows 10 preview doesn't look like Windows 7 start menu. To me it looks like Microsoft shrunk the metro screen and put it on the start menu and made an apps link. I still will play around with it, but my main operating system will be windows 7 for now.

Here is what I would miss in Windows 10.

A:Sticking with with Windows 7 for now.

I like the classic theme more than Aero too, and the dark background for windows is great when you use the computer for long periods! That hasn't changed in 10, neither 8 had those.
And about the gray background, you can use it with Aero, but a few buggy applications (notably Windows Explorer itself) will happily ignore it and stick with white. I think that bug has been introduced in Vista and still present in Win10.

I still have to see if the new Windows has anything really worth for an upgrade, otherwise 7 will live for soooo long . As for now, Win10 is a mere service pack 2 for Win8.

They are listed under msconfig. Also on that same web page is a link to a site that will tell you almost all of the programs that you will find in msconfig and what they are and if they are needed.

I have a T61 that is ~ 2 years old.  I have two keys that are not working perfectly on the computer....I don't know how to describe the problem.  They still work--it is just don't work 100% of the time.  For example, with the backspace key I a might have to press the key multiple times before it starts working correctly. Is this something that can be fixed?  Or is it the type thing that it is smarter to just buy a new laptop since this one is two years old? I also own a T41 that is ~ 5 years old.  Never had a single problem with they keyboard.  (The old Thinkpad keyboards are the best ever--bar none).

I ordered part number 42T3143.  Is that the best keyboard to order for this model?

if u have this issue try pushing a pointed object like a pen into the small hole that should be on the front of the drive, this is the fail safe eject, i'd just put in the data cables on the computer end and the motherboard end, I can't think of why it would be happening though

Just wondered whether anyone could shed any light as to why my cursor, occasionally, sticks. The first time it happened was when i reistalled XP after a repartition and format, after installing a new Motherboard. Right at the very end of installing XP, the bit where you enter your name, it did it and now I'm 'Administrator'. When the problem happens the cursor blinks but cannot be moved and nothing can be typed in, although programs running carry on running. CONT/ALT/DEL doesnt seem to work either and I have to press the power button on my tower once for it to do a shutdown.

PC Specs:
Asus A7V8X Motherboard
2000+XP CPU
128Mb Siluro Ti200 DVI Graphics
512 PC2100 RAM
Soundblaster Audigy Sound
80GB Maxtor HDD
120GB IBM HDD

The only think that Ive changed since the problem has happened is the Motherboard and since updated the BIOS to see if that would help.

Hi all,
Earlier today, it's obvious (by my attachment, showing "View favorites, feeds, and history") that I moused over the favorites page or a similar thing. But it is attached to every single screen in IE! I've gotten it before, and I thought it had worked to switch user and log onto a different account, then switch back. But that does not seem to work now, and although I'm pretty sure a restart will do the trick, I was wondering if there was something else(or more than 1) I could do to get rid of it. My computer is very slow at start-up (I don't currently have malware on it), so if it is possible I want to avoid restarting the computer to get rid of it. Sorry I realized after posting that it may be more of an Internet Explorer issue than the OS itself.
Thanks, Jason

i'm using dvd santa to convert avi files to dvd. Most of the the time it works ok, the rest it copies ok but when i playback the dvd the picture freezes at some point(you can still hear the film in the background).I have tried wiping the dvd's,trying different makes of blank dvd's etc but no joy. This happens both with powerdvd and my dvd player connected to my tv so dont think its anything to do with the dvd player itself

Any ideas anyone?

Make sure 'DMA' is enabled for all optical drives (esp. the dvd drive). That setting is in Device manager.

Can I just load my old HDs into the new sytem? I have upgraded MB, PSU, RAM and CPU.

I know I'll have to do some sort of recovery but I was wondering if someone could give me an idea of what else I will need to do to get up and running again.

Thanks so much.

Also, I should probably copy the data from one of the HDs just in case. Can someone point me to a thread that explains this process in detail. I know I should probably know how to do this by now but I just haven't come across that until now.

As alway, thanks all.

Can I just load my old HDs into the new sytem?
Nope
You will need to do a repair install of xp. This assumes you have the xp drivers for the new mainboard.
Web search for xp repair install for the how to.
Always wise to backup your data though in this situation there should not be a problem.

Over a period of time the keyboard starts to stick and gets progressively worse until BSOD. I have uploaded the files as instructed in the BSOD Posting Instructions post, except that I couldn't manage to upload the original zipped files so I re-zipped them on my XP pc. Anyway, I hope with this extra information, you'll be able to find the driver or whatever which is causing grief.
Thanks.

I have been using Windows Vista x64 for nearly a year and really can't see any real benefit to upgrade to Windows 7, just yet.

While initially enthusiastic, my home PC, does what it needs to do.

I use it for 2 things mainly.

1) Internet Browsing
2) Civilization 4 modding (see KiwiTT's Road to War Mini-Mod - Civilization Fanatics' Forums

I worry that if I upgrade, my Civ 4 modding will break, and can no longer play or mod Civilization 4. This to be honest is my biggest fear !!!

A:I am sticking with Vista - convince me otherwise

If you are happy with your OS, and it does everything you need, then don't upgrade.

Every so often, say during some intensive work, when I move my cursor over a button on the Superbar, the highlight will stick even when the cursor isn't on it anymore, as if it's still highlighted. If I move my cursor over another button, the same happens. I have to reset explorer to continue.

What the hell's going on?!

I think it's a bug in Windows 7 because I have the same problem. No matter what video card combination I try, what version (Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, 32-bit or 64-bit, ATI or Nvidia), I have this same issue when a lot of work is done. I just hope SP1 will correct this bug.

What you're currently doing is the only workaround of which I'm currently aware. Note, that I use the Taskbar buttons in the "Combine only when full" mode and have Quick Launch enabled.
