I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi
Just wondering if anyone can give me any advice on how to get my wireless 1397 WLAN mini-card to enable on my network connections screen? About a month ago I pressed the f2 and fn key together to turn off my wireless and it seems to have done something as when u try to turn it on the same way it doesn't do anything? Also when I highlight the wireless network connection mini card in the network connections screen it says it disabled, I click enable this network device and the screen pops up to say its enabled yet when that screen disappears the connection is still greyed out and says disabled.
When I ask Ask my computer to diagnose the problem
It says there may be a problem with the drivers. I've uninstalled the drivers and downloaded them from the dell website and installed them
Again , still not working !!
I'm confused as everyone keeps saying on this forum to just press f2 and fn but it's not working , I would be grateful if someone could give me any advice to try and fix my problem before it sends me crazy !
Many thanks in advance

Okay, so i have had my inspiron 1545 for 4 months now, and have had a problem where the "Battery is plugged in, not charging", I have read from a lot of places that, my adapter has probably gone bad, and can buy a new one at the Dell store. Only... When i go to my local library, my battery charges. Which is really weird. I have computers and game consoles and TV's plugged in at my house, and they all work fine. But my laptop wont charge. Is it just an odd coincidence? Or should i look into buying a new Dell Adapter?

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 AC Adapter Problem

Don't waste your time on replacing the adapter. Dell laptops have a problem with their motherboards. The chip which recognizes the adapter dies and the adapter will be refused to be recognized by the unit, causing charging to stop. Once in a blue moon, it will allow a charge, but what good is that? Dell refuses to acknowledge this problem so I am not buying anymore Dell products until they offer a recall and replace the defective motherboards for free, whether under warranty or not.

Hi folks,
I am using a Dell Inspiron 1545 which came with win Vista originally. i upgraded this to windows 7 (64 bit).
after upgrading, i am not able to use WiFi. (LAN is working fine and BT is also working fine after reinstalling BT driver).
I don't see any entry for wireless network hardware in "network adapters" in device manager. i could only see LAN hardware. also, i couldn't see wireless network connection option in "change adapter setting" option.

I installed drivers from dell website but i couldn't install them. e.g. R246753, R228532, R248337.

Could you pls help in this regard whether i am installing wrong drivers OR there is some other problem?

You should first make sure you have all the Windows updates for your system installed.
1. Change the channel in the router.
2. Take the router defaults and make ONE change. Use WPA security.

Has your Dell laptop got a broken keyboard... can't switch on wireless adapter by pressing F2?

This bugged me for months and didn't want to buy and fit a new keyboard. Finally figured out how to alter the BIOS settings to switch on the wifi card. Note you will need a usb keyboard plugged into the laptop to do this!

Reboot the laptop and press F2 on the external keyboard to enter the setup screen
find the wireless settings in the menu
there are two options here...
set it so that the wireless adapter is enabled but NOT that it can be toggled on/off via the switch (F2)
Apply then exit
When computer reboots right-click on network icon in system tray
open network and sharing centre
click on change adapter settings
right-click on WiFi adapter
choose connect/disconnect

Now treat yourself to a doughnut... you've just fixed it!

Hello,
I am having problems with the battery charging on a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop.
I bought this computer which had a charging issue. It only works on mains power the battery is not charging.
It was thought that the Charging jack board was faulty. This has now been replaced.
I am still having problems.
The mains adapter that came with the laptop was not original Dell.
I have replaced the adapter with an original Dell PA21. The end lead that plugs into the jack has a hexagonal end.
Does anyone know if this is the correct type for this model? Or should I have a round end type? Or does it make no difference?
I can only conclude that the problem lies in the adapter and/or the Dell battery that I think could be dead and may need replacing.
Thanks very much.
Malcolm

A:Dell inspiron 1545 charging adapter

Some systems were built with hexagonal connectors - if yours has one at the computer end, the adapter should fit it. If not, you need the round connector.
That said, if the AC adapter isn't recognized and you've already tried a new adapter and a new DC jack board, the problem is with the mainboard, not the battery.

Have you tried windows update? They might have one.

I did get a XP driver for my printer to install a function. Don't know if it will work for you, but maybe worth a try.

Hey, I recently had to re-install Windows due to some issues stemming from the aftermath of a virus and the subsequent removal. I honestly don't know how it came about, but it's behind me now as I've installed my new Vista on my laptop.

I went through the normal installation of drivers and have had no problems except for two issues, my video drivers/display adapters.

When I check the Device Manager there's exclamation points next to the Display Adapter > Standard VGA Graphics Adapter and Other Devices > Video Controller.

I tried to install the ATI M92 Driver I need from Dell's driver site, installed it smoothly, and scanned for hardware changes. Windows picked up a new hardware and tried to install it, I obviously didnt have the CD so I directed it to where I installed the ATI M92 driver at, under Program Files > ATI. That didn't work and the hard drive installation failed.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? I need to know how to resolve the problems in both my Display Adapter > Standard VGA Graphics Adapter and Other Devices > Video Controller issues. Please help Sad , I'm trying to get my screen resolution past a 1024x768.

Thanks, Darrin.

When hooked up wired through an Ethernet cable it works fine...

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 running Windows 7. Wireless adaptor is an intel Pro 3945ABG

The wireless adapter keeps switching itself off. This happens regularly - every 10 minutes - and I have to troubleshoot to reset the wireless adaptor.

I have disabled the power setting that allows the computer to switch wireless off to save power and I have (I think) reinstalled the right drivers.

The inspiron used to have a reset wireless switch on the left hand side, but this broke off almost immediately. Could it have worked itself into a problematic position and be causing the problem or is it another issue?

Grateful for any help.

My problem is 2fold:
1. I recently moved to a new city. Prior to moving my desktop wireless nic(Realtek 8190 802.11N) was operating flawlessly in the N spectrum. I unplugged the PC, boxed it, shipped it to new address, unboxed it, plugged it in(once the new cable/internet connection was installed in the new apartment(different company)). The PC is just 10 feet away from the Wifi router, a ASUS RT-N66U, and I'm only getting 72Mbs speeds. This is completely inadequate to game online as all my games either can't authenticate due to timeouts or timeout immediately after authenticating. My laptop is getting 144Mbs at any location in the apartment. I have gone through all settings and don't see why it's so slow as it was working just fine.

2. Because I have not been able to fix my original Wifi nic, I bought a TP-WDN4800 450Mbs nic and installed it.
I loaded the driver for this nic, the system recognizes the card, however, using this nic the system does not see any networks. The driver is the most current, however windows is reporting there is a problem with the driver even though the system recognizes the card and the card itself is indicating successful driver install with a slow flashing LED as per the manual.

Over the last 2 days I have been having a problem as indicated in the title of this post. The fault has rectified itself 3 times, but again today, it is back to "battery plugged in, not charging." As I am running the laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium; 32 bit) on the adapter without problems, I assume that the adapter itself may not be faulty.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop running Windows 7.  Can I safely use that adapter with the Vista laptop, without causing damage to the Vista ?  If it is safe to do so, and the battery on the Vista starts charging, then it would indicate that the Vista adapter/charger has some kind of fault.
Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Thanks.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Battery plugged in not charging. Can I use adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop ?

If the adapter has the same plug and the same or higher power rating, you can swap them.
Check to see whether the 1545 recognizes the AC adapter or whether it shows unknown (F2 at powerup).  If it shows unknown with two different adapters, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard.

I have a new Inspiron 9400 (Windows XP Home) with a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN and am having trouble getting it to connect to my wireless network broadcast from a Netgear WGR614 wireless router. The "funny" thing is that I can get the card to connect to a much weaker Linksys network which I assume that my neighbor's wireless router is broadcasting.

The Dell card sees the Netgear network but won't connect. Network strength is good. Another laptop that I have with a Netgear 511 wireless card connects to the Netgear network with no problem. I don't have wireless security enabled, and it does not appear that my firewall is blocking the connection. I have tried to connect using both the utility that comes with the wireless care and WinXP's standard wireless network connection wizard. Neither works. I'm at a loss. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So, out of nowhere, my wireless connection doesn't work. I cannot detect any wireless networks, but the adapter is detected in the Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings. It's visible there, enabled, with a full green bar (I'm connected to an Ethernet cable now and close to the router), but if I disconnect from the cable, I am no longer connected to the internet, and when I troubleshoot/diagnose, all windows says it "There might be a problem with the driver for the wireless connection adapter."

I have an ASUS N55SL and my adapter is an Intel Centrino Wireless N-100. I have tried everything. Uninstalling and re installing drivers, deleting Intel Wifi folder and registry, restore points won't work, and it's not the AVG network filter problem like some. It just happened out of nowhere. It's actually the second time it did, but unlike last time, it did not fix itself overnight.

I also thought a problem was the ATK package for hotkeys (FN+f2 turned wireless on and off), since when I turned on the computer when this problem started, the wifi was seemingly turned on at first, and I had to press those buttons to turn it on on, but alas, no visible wireless connections and still not connected to them. The only proble I had was sometimes it would randomly drop in speed but I don't think that has anything to do with the issue. Last night it was working perfectly, but then it went slow so I unplugged our router and then disabled the wireless network then reeanbled it. Anyways I've been using this network for a few months now without issues but I think the issue lies within my computer. I checked for windows updates and installed them but no luck. Then I checked for driver updates for my adapters but they were up to date. I don't have any screenshots and I'm on a tablet. Also please use the simplest terms possible because while I have a basic understanding of these things, I'm no expert and I don't want to miss anything. Also I have Nortan Antivirus and it hasn't given me any problems. Thanks.

My internet was working fine and I was connected to wifi, then it suddenly stopped working.
I did all the troubleshoots and it discovered that there is a problem with the wireless network connection adapter. It shows that my wireless network is there and is on but won't connect to the adapter. I tried updating all the system updates, I tried restoring the system, nothing has fixed the problem! Help!!!

I recently purchased a USB WiFi adapter from eBay (Realtek 8188SU
chipset) to use with my desktop PC. After installing it, it does not detect any wireless networks either through the Realtek utility or Windows. When trying to connect to a network in windows, I get the following message:
"There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection 2 adapter"
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, and have only Microsoft Security Essentials as my AV software.

According to the device manager and network connections, the device is fine. Below is a screenshot of ipconfig /all, device manager, network connections, and the error.

I have also followed general advice given in this thread, which appeared to be a similar issue as what I'm having:
http://www.sevenforums.com/network-s...iver-wireless-
adapter.html

I have tried this wireless adapter on my laptop, also running W7HPx64, and the device performs flawlessly, can connect to networks etc. The device appears as a different name when it is first plugged in without the drivers installed, but once the driver is installed (either the one from the disk, older version, or the one from Realtek's website, newest version) it shows up as the same device name.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated, perhaps what to look for in the registry or device settings that might be different between the two computers.

Hello jkenny23 and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not an expert at anything.

Do you have the latest Realtek driver?

Realtek

Scroll down about 1/4 of the way for the 8188SU. Which Realtek utility did you use to check the WiFi adapter?

Hello, I'm having a problems connecting to my wireless internet. At first it was working, then since the electric went out for a few secs. Most of the time this problem pops up when i try to connect. My Desktop PC still connects with no problems. Recently if I restart the laptop it can 'sometimes' connect. I have a Dell Studio 1555 Laptop, with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit, I also have Itunes and Norton anti virus 360.

Welcome to Seven Forums,

You may try to disable the Power Management mode of your Wi-Fi adapter from Device Manager, see attached image.
If that didn't help, I'd download your Wi-Fi's latest driver from the Manufacturer's site.

Did you power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Power on the ISP modem router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on your wireless router(if any)

start, all programs, accessories, right click on cammand prompt, left click run as administrator. Type

ipconfig /release          (space between the g and /)

Restart your computer. Try to connect. What happens?

Does your wireless router have these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11?

What operating system are you using?

looking at a friend's laptop that won't charge battery.  % does not move past 18 or 19.  got a new battery, no difference.  machine used to run with just the ac power plug only.
bought a new I/O board and have the following situations and outcimes:
1. battery in only, no power lights at all and won't run.
2. battery in, ac power on.  all i get is 3 amber and 1 blinking white light. will not power on.
3. battery out, AC power in.  no system power light.  pushing power button on/off gives repeating white power light every 5 seconds.  laptop will not power on.
4. removed battery and ac power, held power button to dissipate electrical charge, no difference with ac wall plug (same result as #3).
5 AC wall plug has always tested at 119v AC In, 19.51v DC out.

Ideas?  none of the suggestions I read in the forums have worked.

I guess you installed XP on it? You can find the XP drivers by going to the Dell support site, enter your Service Tag Number and download the drivers. Be sure to use IE and do not use the Dell Download Manager!

Just download the driver file, save it to the desktop and double click to install

On the list of drivers, click on the driver file:

Then the download button here:

See this for the order they should be installed:

http://support.dell.com/support/topi...=en&l=en&s=dhs

Depending 0on how you installed XP, you may be able to recover the Vista installation . . If you have the Dell System restore ( not all Dells do ) you can use that and you will not need a install CD

I posted this question on Yahoo Answers first and copied it, so that's why there's the whole "7 minutes ago, 4 days left to answer" thing, which I forgot to get rid of . The rest of it is the actual question. Also, for even more info that I can give, the event ID is 1001. This is the first time I've gotten a BSOD on this machine, and it hasn't reappeared when I rebooted, but I don't want it to reoccur in the future.

Hey,

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7, and has been working fine. However it suddenly shut down and when I go to turn it on, the dell sign comes up then the screen turns to a black screen with a blinking cursor.

I have tried F2, F12 but nothing happens and it just returns to then blinking cursor.

My computer is still under warrenty so I can get this fix or replaced, I was just wondering if there was any quick fix.

You have a Windows 7 CD that came with the computer? Try pressing on F8 and see where that takes you. Remove any USB devices that you may have attached to the DELL. Are you pressing f2/f12 right when the dell logo comes up? I just wonder if in BIOS the setting under hard disk boot priority under boot device configuration has the hard drive as the first boot device...

Hi - sorry if this is in the wrong place - I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 running an upgraded version of Win7 32 bit home premium. For a few months it has had an issue with startup, sometimes when you turn it on it does the Dell loading bar screen where you can press f2 or f12 and then it just goes to a black screen with a blinking/flashing _ cursor where nothing happens. Previously this problem could be overcome by shutting down again, restarting, pressing F12 when it gave me the option to and selecting Boot from Internal HDD.

However, I turned on the laptop yesterday and it did the same thing, I tried my usual remedy only to find that it no longer works - so basically Windows won't boot and I can't use the laptop.

I can't press F8 to try and run in safe mode so I have absolutey no idea what to do.

Does anyone have a solution?!

Are you able to enter BIOS Setup? Second can you boot to a bootable CD or DVD such as a windows installation disc? If yes to these it may be that the Hard drive has died.

A:Dell Inspiron One 2320 wireless driver problem?

Hi
Wireless drivers are available from Dell for your Dell Inspiron One 2320

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/inspiron-one-2320/drivers

Depending on the Wireless adapter installed in your system you will choose either the 1502 or the 1702.

If your system has Bluetooth, most likely it is the 1702.

You can check the System Setup Program by pressing <F2> on boot to see if the BIOS specifies the Wireless Device in your system.

Another option is, to click the System Configuration link and enter your service tag number . This will  bring up the Original System Configuration for your system listing part numbers and descriptions for the components installed.

If 1502 download: Atheros Wireless 1502 WLAN Mini Card Desktops, v.3.0.0.238, A00 R305630.exe

If 1702 download: Atheros Wireless 1702 WLAN&BT Combo Mini Card Desktops, v.3.0.0.328, A00 R305632.exe

Best of luck and Please keep BC posted!

It won't let me go into any safe modes, they all have the same black screens with a cursor on it I ran the  diagnostics and it looked like everything passed and it didn't give me any kind of error code. I recently bought an external hard drive to try to get my files from the emergency file and backup options and it shows that I have about 150gb of files then when I try to transfer them I get a pop up error screen that says "restore7.exe  Application error" I've lost my boot disks and the main thing I care about is the files themselves since its already a pretty old computer any ideas on how to get into my files?

Im having a problem with a Dell Insprion 1545 laptop, which is running Vista.
I can connect the laptop to WiFi okay, but the problem is the internet connection randomly stops then when I hover the mouse cursor over the network icon in the taskbar, it says "Access: Local Only".
Im connecting to WiFi using a Nokia Lumia 520 smartphone.
I don't think it's a problem with my internet provider because when the laptop's internet connection stops, the internet still works okay on the phone itself. So this narrows it down to a problem with the laptop and the WiFi connection.
Is there any solution to this problem?
Thanks for any advice.

A:Dell Inspiron 1545 - Local Only WiFi problem in Vista

Have you tried using the notebook with another network other than the phone? The notebook may not be configured correctly for the phone. Before doing a lot of troubleshooting sometimes it saves time to just try connecting to another network and see if you have the same problem.
In case you notice the problem for all networks the following document has basic WIFI troubleshooting  here.
You can check to see if the notebook is getting an IP (Internet Protocol) address. Open a command prompt, start - search cmd - and it should open a black text box.  In the command prompt type ipconfig and press enter.
This should list both the wireless and ethernet adapters and if they currently have an ip address. Something like IPV4 followed by a series of numbers. For example IPv4 address....  192.168.1.254.
Next type ping space and the IP address listed running the ipconfig command and then press enter.. for example ping 192.168.1.254 enter.  It should read out that it is pinging the ipaddress and it should list that you are getting replies.
Try safemode with networking, start the system tapping F8 and choose safemode with networking. Boot to safemode and try the connection there, is there a difference?
If the notebook is not getting an IP address, and it doesnt matter if you are in safemode or not and you cant connect no matter where you go then I am going to suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the wifi driver. You will want to completel... Read more
