Adjusting Netbook Screen Resolution

Q: Adjusting Netbook Screen Resolution

So I bought a new netbook for work travel recently and loaded a program that I need to use. Program runs fine and all, however the prescribed screen resolution for the program is 1024x768 and the netbook (with Windows 7 HE and an Intel GMA 3150) doesn't seem to want to go past 1024x600. Does anyone perhaps have a thought or a way to get 7 to display more here? I don't mind if I even just need to scroll around to get to all the material, but right now its just cutting off part of the program making it impossible to work on some of it.

Preferred Solution: Adjusting Netbook Screen Resolution

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Adjusting Netbook Screen Resolution

Hi Orion3,

While your 1024x768 program is a standard 4:3 aspect ratio, 1024x600 is a widescreen aspect ratio (16:9) as many netbooks have. I'm pretty sure that if 600 is the maximum pixel height it can display but you still need to match the 4:3 aspect ratio program, then you'll have to go down to 800x600 rather than up. Try that and let me know how it works.

Until recently, I was always able to adjust my monitor's screen resolution. Now whenever I try to adjust it to 2048 by 1536 pixels (the most resolution), I get an error message that says:

HF: 95.4 kHz
VF: 60.0 Hz

HF: 30-70 kHz
VF: 50-160 Hz

What does all this mean? Why can't I do something simple like set my screen resolution?

Help would be appreciated... thanks.

That's a pretty high resolution. Sometimes resolutions are listed that a monitor doesn't support. Where you able to set it there before?

Hi everyone!
I have a problem when i start using Win7 and adjust my screen resolution...
when i adjust the resolution to 1206x682 or higher, the whole windows become larger and eventually become larger than my screen. So i can see only part of my taskbar. However, this will not happen when i use XP.
Is this normal?
At this time i can't use any video editing software as they require 1024x768 or higher resolution, what should i do?
Sorry for my poor English. I am still an English learner.

when i set to a higher resolution in XP, the icons are smaller and the size of the windows doesnt change. But when i do this in 7, the size of icons doesnt change but the whole windows become larger.

AOC 2353 monitor, on windows 7 has a recommended resolution of 1920 by 1080

when it is set here I notice even the desktop boots up quick and efficient. opposed to when it is set at 1600 by 900. which is best on the eyes.

problem with 1920 by 1080 is that the folders and print are far too minute to see.

this is with Intel onboard video, from the processor.

is there a way to expand the text and folders? browsers can be zoomed

would having a video card help?

A:adjusting screen resolution - AOC monitor

If you go into the advanced display settings, you can increase the size of items and fonts and can "bold" the text.
I've got bad eyes, so I do this every time I set up one of my computers after I install the Windows operating system.

The native resolution for my 27" monitors is 1920 X 1080.
This is an example of what my desktop looks like after changing the display settings.
As you can see, the icons and text are noticeably larger and bolder than they would be from using the default settings.

I'm using a Toshiba Netbook NB505 running Windows 7 Starter.

When I try installing Canon photo software, the install fails due to the lower resolution setting of the netbook (1024 x 600). I had read elsewhere that a way around this was to go into screen resolution > advanced settings > monitor - and un-check "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display".

That option is grayed out for me. Do any of you guys know why this is grayed-out, or have a work-around for this?

Hi All,

I have an ASUS 1015CX-BLK024W netbook running Win 7 Home Premium. I want to increase the screen resolution but when I go to the Control Panel to adjust it, the maximum available to me is 800x600. If I read them correctly, the specs say it can go up to 1024x600. I updated the graphic driver but the resolution is still limited to 800x600.

Any way to fix this? Do I need to change something in the registry?

I searched on Google and in this forum and didn't find any relevant links. I also tried to join the Asus Support Forum, but their registration system isn't working.

So my netbook's resolution became really low suddenly like a month ago. I couldn't find a solution on my own so I'mma ask it here. So basically the resolution used to be high(everyone else has the "original" resolution while I have to deal with this ugly low res interface). I know you can adjust the resolution in CP but it is on the highest possible setting atm.

I'm running Starter, everything else works, no viruses according to multiple scans. The effect is system wide, changing the user makes no difference whatsoever.

Device: DELL Latitude 2120.

Any solutions other than reinstallation?

Thanks in advance!

A:Low resolution(netbook)

re-install the video driver
goto the dell website - where you should find the driver for that model
or use the service tag number, which is on a label on the PC - and that will take you to the correct model

I am having issues with external monitor resolution in my netbook with Windows 10

Monitor: HP Pavilion 22cw, (my current desktop monitor) using VGA

If I select "Extend desktop" then the monitor is set to 1920x1080 just fine and the netbook's screen shows fine.
But if I select it to output just to the external monitor, then the resolution menu is greyed out and the resolution is stuck at 800x600. Obviously, the netbook screen turns off.

AFAIK with Win 7 I hadn't any issues.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

I recently got a netbook and it is my first time to use its native 1024x600 resolution. A major problem that I got from this is that the 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons on some confirmation windows are unclickable (they sometimes appear at the bottom of the screen, way below the taskbar, even when the taskbar is hidden). I've tried moving the confirmation window up, but the buttons return back to the same area.

Does anyone know any way to prevent these buttons from showing up in an unclickable area? If not, are there workarounds? Also, what are the default shortcut keys, for 'OK', 'Apply' and 'Cancel'. I am currently using Windows 7 starter on the netbook.

A:1024x600 netbook resolution; unclickable 'OK' and 'Cancel' buttons

If you are selected on the resolution drop-down, choose 1024x600, press Tab (6) times, and then hit space. This will press the OK button for you.

Hi all

Not sure if this has been posted before but running Metro UI needs a minimum resolution of 1024 X768 which IMO seems a bit absurd in view of the large number of netbooks and tablets having a slightly lower resolution like 1024 X 600 which seems to be a common size.

You can "poodle fake" the screen into "down-rezzing" allowing you to use a slightly higher resolution to get round this limit.

Not sure where I got the info from - but thanks anyway to whoever found this out.
It doesn't look too bad on the netbook but if you don't like it then it's easy to change back again.

1) Run regedit
2) Search and modify all values "Display1_DownScalingSupported" from "0" to "1"
3) Restart the system
4) Enjoy with the two new resolutions 1024x768 i 1152x864

I have had my laptop for nearly half a year now and I just recently found an HDMI cable in an old junk box that can be connected from my widescreen Samsung DLP to my Laptop. The problem is that when I set my TV to be the main display the task bar does not fit on screen and I can barely see it. Another problem is when I play my games or watch videos they also appear to be bigger then what my screen is. I cant even see the exit or minus button when I make my windows/browsers in full screen. I have tried changing the screen resolution, but that doesn't work either. I then thought it might be my TV but it does not give my the option to change its aspect ratio.

I there solution to my little problem? Like a download or a program that is naturally in the computer that can adjust the aspect ratio (not resolution) manually for extended displays? And the resolution is on its recommended settings by the way.

A:I need help with adjusting my screen.

What is the graphics card on your laptop? Both AMD and nVidia cards have overscan options in their software which should give you the capability to adjust your display size manually until it fits. Also check that you're outputting the correct resolution for your TV.

I'm unable to adjust the screen brightness on my Yoga 920.  It's stuck.  The F11 and F12 keys do nothing. I have updated the BIOS.  I have reinstalled the driver.  When I do so, it fixes the problem ... until the next time the laptop goes to sleep or shuts down.  Then, when it comes back on, the brightness is stuck at wherever it was before. If I then reinstall the driver *again*, it fixes the problem ... until the next sleep/shutdown, when the problem reappears. A Lenovo support agent told me the only thing to do is a hard reset on the machine, restoring it to factory condition.  Obviously I'd rather not deal with that hassle if there's a less destructive way to fix the problem. Ideas?  Suggestions?

Hi everyone, I have a pretty weird tech problem.

What happens is, whenever I adjust my monitor's brightness (from its physical buttons) the screen turns black. However the monitor is still on, the LED is still green and the computer is still responsive, the screen just turns black.

I can use the computer just fine, as long as I don't try to adjust anything. If I do want to change something, I have to change the values a little, then restart, change them again, restart until I have the values I want. This problem appeared when I tried to adjust the brightness by keeping the + button pressed down, so it increased quickly.

Is this indicative of a dying monitor ? It is pretty old, it's an LG L1750SQ, 17 inch LCD, it's over 4 years old. Also, I do not believe the video card to the problem, since it stays pretty cool, it has a good heatsink on it.

Hi. I'm new here and this is my first post. I looked around a little and found one other thread with a similar question, but the question wasn't really answered. I can't find anything on the net that doesn't confuse me so bad it makes my head hurt, so I thought I'd try asking here. Thanks in advance for any answers I get.

I will try and be as thorough as possible, although the resulting question will be simple. I'll start out with why I am asking the question to begin with.

So I am trying to play a game I used to play nearly ten years ago. It's a free online game called Continuum/Subspace and there are user created "zones" or variations of the game within the game (if that makes sense). I play in a zone called Trench Wars. It's a top down game, meaning you are looking down at your ship as if from above and the screen scrolls as you move to reveal more of the area (map) you are playing in. You are in a spaceship of your choice with varying weapons for each ship. The game requires aiming at your enemies before firing at them and anticipating their moves.

Well I noticed that playing at a higher resolution allows you to see more of your immediate area and expands your view of the map. It works just like your desktop in essence. The higher the resolution, the smaller the icons, but the more space you have. In the game, the higher the resolution, the smaller the ships are, but you can see more space around you. Obviously, this would give an advantage to anyone playing ... Read more

Simple answer is: you can not go over the native resolution of LCD panel because its physical thing for each pixel lcd panel has a cell you can not have more pixels than there is physical pixels in that panel.

smaller than native resolutions achieved by grouping more than one cell to form pixel thats why non native resolution on lcd sometimes gets blurry or edgy

here is the issue:
Now i think its the monitor cables, as if you tilt the screen back too far you loose the image completely and jsut have the back light.

Ive stripped it down fully and checked it over and cant see anything obvious (other than the chassis was broken in a lot of places from several droppings! (dont ask)

A new screen is cheaper than the cables.. soo i dont want to have to buy both to find out its just one. soo if anyone else wants to offer an opinion im happy to listen.

Probably not the screen IMO if it happened all of a sudden (if not dropped immediately before). If it is (and it isn't under warranty) it is probably either the inverter, or driver.

One thing I do too often is loose patience and don't let it sit there working long enough. Try giving it a bunch of time after it scrolls through it's list of drivers. Minutes, not hours.

If it does go passed that point after waiting it out, let us know and we'll go on from there.

Dear All,

My Samsung Netbook has developed the below glitch in the screen ever since it fell off:-

Is that some problem with the display device gone loose or something?

I took a snapshot via PrtScn of the Netbook and viewed it in my desktop, it was clean without the spots as seen in the above image. Does that imply it's a issue with the Netbook screen?

Is there any software to check if the devices in the Netbook are still functioning properly or not? In case there is no single software to achieve that, you can suggest me individual software say to check graphics device, hard drive etc.

A:Dots in Netbook screen

PrtScr records only what is sent to screen, not actual picture of it. Considering that snapshot taken like that is clean, the only thing left is a physical damage to the screen with a slight chance of flat cable going from the machine to screen is slightly pulled or damaged. Afraid that only changing the screen itself can rectify this. problem. You can try connecting to an external monitor but I bet that picture will be fine there.

I have been given my brothers netbook as he said that he was using it then it turned off. He tried to turn it back on and it would just start to boot, the screen would flash blue then it would start to boot again. It would repeat this indefinitely.

I tapped F8 when starting up and selected "Turn off automatic restart on fatal error" (or something like that) and now it stops on this blue screen.

The blue screen reads this:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Good morning folks I have an Acer netbook about 2months now and yesterday it froze so powered it off to shut it down, next day when(today) when I put it on there is a broken coloured line appearing at start up is there anything I can do?

A:Acer netbook screen

Hi trinishoes and welcome to TSF.

So you are able to boot into Windows normally again, but there is now a line appearing on the monitor?

Can you check you Device Manager for any warnings (yellow exclamation points) next to anything.
Right click on 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'. In the Computer Management window, select 'Device Manager' on the left and look for any warning signs.

I'm hoping that this is just a faulting driver issue and not a hardware issue. (Broken Screen) I take it that the netbook hasn't been dropped or knocked about?

If it does turn out to be a damaged screen, then seeing as it's only 2 months old, it should still be under warranty.

I don't know why, but my desktop is now far too big for my screen on my HP Mini. I can't see the bottom, right or left hand side of the desktop. I've tried looking at the screen resolution, but nothing that I do there seems to have any effect. Can someone help please as I can't even access the switch off button!

Hi Fijay10,

Try this: Go to control panel, and go to Appearance & Personalization. Look for Display and click Make text or other items bigger or smaller is underscored. Select it and click the appropiate size 100% and apply. Restart the computer and it should be fixed.
Oh and return it to Native resolution after that.

Failing that you may need a Graphics Driver update or you may not have one intalled, if this is the case then some modes will not be listed.

Please post Model number HP Mini .....

My friend has a Asus Eee PC 1005 PEB, and she gave it to me to fix.

What I immediately noticed was the problem was that the screen did not work. When you turn it on, the screen flashes on very shortly, showing just the blinking cursor line in the top-left corner, and then shuts off. From that point on, the screen stays completely dark with no image on it whatsoever until you turn the computer off and then back on and start this all over again.

I plugged the computer into my external monitor and it worked fine (although the image was positioned very awkwardly so that I could only see about 75% of the actual image). So I narrowed the problem down to either the screen itself or the cable connecting it to the motherboard.

I took the computer apart and tried unplugging the cable attached to the motherboard from the screen and then plugging it back in. This did not change anything. Not sure whether the problem was the cable or the screen, I wanted to narrow it down to just one of them. So I thought I would try plugging the cable into the screen from another laptop. This also did not work. In fact, after doing so, I couldn't even get the computer to turn on anymore. I pressed the power button, the blue power light went on, and then the computer shut off.

The only way I was able to get the computer to turn on again was by unplugging the screen cable from the motherboard. So the current state of the computer is that it only works when that cable is not plugged into it. It doe... Read more

Today my netbook fell on the ground after my dog accidently pulled the power cable, and my screen broke. It's a gateway LT2012H. I got it in January from Futureshop and got the warranty. I was just wondering what can be done. If I go into Futureshop and say the wrong thing it could not get me a new one so I need to see what to do. Or if it is cheap to replace it, or if warranty with gateway or futureshop covers it.
