I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a T500 (2081CTO) running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and am preparing to upgrade to W10. The Lenovo Windows 10 docs I've read say to upgrade to the most recent BIOS before upgrading. My current BIOS is version 3.22 (6FET92WW) dated 2011. Despite Lenovo System Update v5.07.0029 NOT displaying any BIOS updates, when I happened to check Lenovo's site for drivers & software I see that Version 3.23 (BIOS ID: 6FET93WW) update is available. It is not described as "Important" and only offers "Added support for the function to disable & unconfigure AMT via WMI". I'm not sure if SU is failing to offer the update, or if has good reason not to offer it. I've also read that some people have had issues with v3.23 and needed to revert to the previous 3.22 version. Is the newer version "really" required to perform the W10 upgrade? Frank

I have a rather strange issue. Basically if I fresh boot my T500, aka from a complete power off, the boot screen etc will show, but the display never passes on to the actual windows 10 OS. I can tell the system is running, and if I manually put the system to sleep with FN + F4, then bring it out of sleep the screen will load. Not a terrible issue, but a slightly annoying extra step I have to do on every boot up. I haven't used this laptop in quite some time and had done a completely fresh install of W10-64bit when I decided I needed it as a basic work laptop. Any ideas that might help with this would be greatly appreciated

If you have switchable graphics, go into the BIOS setup and choose Display. Set it ti Discrete and disable any OS detection of switchable graphics. Then let Win 10 install its video driver. It may take a few hours for Win 10 to realize you have changed video card.

As I understand it any bus power saving features can affect the performance of an SSD. Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Hello, I have an old T500 laptop which has been working perfectly for 3-4 years. Recently I encountered an issue where the screen would go blank right after showing the Bios Screen and the windows startup message (using Win 7). I thought it was an OS issue, so tried using USB linux (Elementary OS) and it would work fine for a while then screen would go black again. I just reinstalled with Win 10, same problem - works fine for a while, then goes blank. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it, but prior to this I noticed the laptop getting quite hot in the top left region (where I think the CPU and GPU cooling exhaust is), not sure if it has anything to do with it. After browsing around the forums, I selected OFF switcheable graphics, and selected Discreet graphics - the screen goes black right away, had issues even showing bios. Reset bios blindly (F1, F9, F10) and then set graphics to integrated and disabled OS detection. *Seems* to be working fine for now, but wondering what the issue is and how to resolve.

Look near the memory sockets for a chip with 8 leads (usually).  Bear in mind that the replacement chip will need to be flashed with the Dell 3500 firmware before you install it.

I've looked around a little but I can't find a place. I need a PCC32 type or whatever it is; pheonix-award. All I know is that the chip is square and has 32 pins... I haven't been able to find the procedure for installing a new chip. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

A:New BIOS chip

Well I have never attempted changing a bios chip but here is a site I found when I googled "replace bios chip"

http://www.biosman.com/remove.htm

EDIT: here is another site http://www.badflash.com/findbios.htm

looks like you need to research how your chip is set up, and if it were me I would look into getting the proper tools for the kind of setup you have. (a couple are listed on that site). There may even be a guide for doing it with your specific brand of MB / BIOs chip.

List your system specs as there are probably more than a few people here that have done this in the past that would be willing to help you out.

Hi all, this is a bit of a long story, sorry.

Turned on my computer the other day, to be presented with a checksum error and and INVALID SYSTEM DISK error when trying to boot Windows XP. In terms of the Bios, i reset it, changed the battery and loaded defaults. In terms of the HDD boot error i figured the Boot sector had corrupted.

Anyway I decided to first flash my bios, and then reinstall Windows Xp on teh HDD.

I ran the AWDFlash.exe utility (as part of BIOS on my motherboard - ASus A7n8X-E Deluxe) and put the lastest BIos version (v.1013) on a boot disk to install off.
This seems to work, it finished and I reset.

When I reset the following happened....

Award Boot Block ran
It searched for AWDFlash.exe.

So I downloaded that, put it on a floppy and it rebooted. It happily found it a ran it. I also put the BIOS version on the floppy too. The screen came up where you can enter a bios to flash but I couldn't enter a file name and I get the error: SOURCE FILE NOT FOUND.

The bios is on the same disk as it!!!

Now when i reset i get a checksum error and an INVALID SYSTEM DISK ERROR! Also I get two descending beeps.

THis has got me! Can anyone help?

Anthony

I hope I'am posting in the right section. Some how I corrupted my bios on an ASUS K8N-E Deluxe Mobo.I was going to use an Asus A7N8X mobo,to hot flash the bios chip.I also have an Asus K8V SE Deluxe mobo. But I would prefer to use the A7N8X,as it is considerably cheaper to replace in case of damage.I think I should mention that this all happened after I saved and exited the bios.I had just finished raising my FSB and after pressing F10 and Enter.I got a message saying Bad checksum and something else.It said please power off and restart. So I shutoff the power, and restarted but nothing appeared,no Post Nothing.I have cleared the Cmos jumpers, removed the battery still nothing. So because I just purchased the board from Ncix I realy don't want to ship it if I don't have to.All the Bios chips and sockets on all three boards look exactly the same. But what I am worried about is if the voltage is different on eny of the Bios sockets that hold the bios chips.Or if it matters which board I use to do the hot flashing,on the currupted chip.So please you guys are my only chance, please help as soon as possible thanks!

Hello All,,,,,

and THANKS for your time, help, and advise!!!!

It's been a long time (+30 years) since dealing with Firmware and Chips. Last time was when there was no such thing as FLASH types and you had to use a window on the chip to erase! ;-|

In this case, the MotherBoard is a Packard Bell PB600 and has the following BIOS chip (Intel Flash P28F001BX-T150) which is no longer available from Intel.

However, Catalyst, Inc. has a cross reference to a Catalyst, Inc chip (CAT28F001P-15T).

Thing is, Catayst no longer has the 15T chip in any of it's inventoried areas, plus after contacting Catalyst they specifically say it is no longer in the corporate inventory even though it is still listed on their WEB Site Data Sheet pages.

But, they do have a faster chip which is the following:

CAT28F001P-12T
The question is related to my understanding of speeds between the MB memory and the chip and will the 12T chip be usable?

If so, will the setup have to be activated during boot time to reset BIOS settings for this Bios 12T chip?
Thanks again for your time, help, and advise!!!

Jerry

What you are asking is not clear.  An SSD is a solid state disk. It is not a "chip". Are you having a problem with an SSD not being identified? Your device does not use an SSD disk it supports 32- or 64-GB eMMC (v5.0) flash drives. If you want to upgrade the storage capacity of your notebook, the only viable options  is a SDHC media card.

I have a problem which I expect is due to a corrupt BIOS chip. I'll explain everything I've done, so someone can perhaps figure out what I've done, and how it can be fixed.

A friend of mine asked me to format and re-intall windows due to it running very laboured and slow (I did add some RAM to help with speed). So, I used my old XP disk, but during set-up, there were quite a few files which couldn't be installed. XP then tried to start, but froze on the black XP screen with the blue progress bar running accross. I suspect the XP disk was damaged, so I tried again, using another XP disk, but it kept freezing in exactly the same place.

I then put another hard drive in, and had the original as the slave, and tried installing XP again, but still had the same problem. SO, I disconnected the slave, but no change.

I tried resetting the CMOS, and took the battery out a few times, for up to an hour, but no change.

I then got a hard disk from another computer with a working copy of XP on it, but with this one, it would go to the black screen asking whether you want to start in safe mode, but no matter what option I choose, it goes to the Blue Screen of death, with a 0x00000007B error.

I'm really desperate for help, as this is my friend's machine, and I'm worried I stuffed it up with a corrupted copy of my Windows XP disk.

Will a Bios Chip still work if one of the pins on the chip are bent?

A:Bios Chip problems

If it fits in the slot, and the pins make contact with the socket pins, then yes. Pins being bent does not affect the storage medium - just the interface. However, if the pins do NOT make contact, or are bent to the point of making contact with the WRONG contact (especially more than one), THEN you have a problem. Pull the power to the computer AND the CMOS battery, check, double check, and triple check before powering up.

I am going to put this out here and it would be great to get an answer, but I am not expecting one. In trying to help another member with their BIOS problem I ended up corrupting my own. I have tried using the same method that I used to rescue my HDX18, but it has gotten to the point where the machine won't even recognise the USB flash drive anymore.  Here is a thread I found that sums up all the steps I have tried.  http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-compaq/479375-hp-pavillion-dv8-dv8-1090ev-usb-flash-drive-bios-re...  There is also a link in there that talks about a white paper from HP to save the BIOS in a root directory on the USB flash drive, which is explained very poorly.  http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c01670688&lang=en&cc=us&taskI...  So I have given up on all of the above and I have decided to resolder on a new preprogrammed chip, which is easier in the long run anyway. The problem is that there are two Winbond ( a BIOS chip manufacture) BIOS chips on the mother board, which one is the BIOS chip. It has been suggested that one is a controller for the keyboard. The one near the keyboard ZIF connector is 25X16AVSIG and the other on the other side of the MoBo near the optical drive connector is 25X40AVSIG.  Which is the correct one to replace ?  What I really need is for someone from HP to take a quick look at the schematic diagram for the MoBo...
