Vista welcome window forever loading etc

Q: Vista welcome window forever loading etc

Ok.well my ASUS laptop with Vista home premium is having some trouble.. first notice windows freezes ... next vista welcome window stays on loading.......... till I turn it off and restart in safe mode with network... Then the unthinkable ... all my pictures, all my documents, all the restore points, ALL anything that I added to this hard drive for the last 4yrs.... IS GONE!!! and now nothing is saved after I reboot.( ok Im in safe mode) I have reloaded the service pack 2... found out some drivers can not update. I looked at the event manager ... OMG that list is too long. I remember sometime last year their was an Microsoft update that wiped everything off like it was a new laptop...But I had a restore points to go back to fix that one. 2 days ago my laptop appeared to be ok. Turned it off that night and in the morning all was gone. But I am hoping the light is still on at the end of the tunnel for this hard drive.

Preferred Solution: Vista welcome window forever loading etc

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi. I have an old Compaq laptop (says Presario A900 on it) running on Vista. A while ago, it froze, so I had to press the power button until it turned off. Now, when I turn it on it starts up normally with the black screen and the 30 secondseconds to start Windows regularly. I can log in fine, but if I click on Chrome and search something, it freezes. Sometimes I don't even get that far. I click on the Start button and the blue loading circle comes up. It doesn't do anything after that. The circle keeps going like something's loading. Occasionally it will freeze and I have to manually restart it. What's going on? Thanks.

Hiya, all

I am a satisfied Windows 7 Pro user on six machines (five laptops and one desktop) all of them home machines. I have no desire to ever experience Windows 8, 10, 27 or whatever. I want to stay on Windows 7. But things happen to machines, and sometimes they have to be replaced. Does anyone have any thoughts on how I might be able to stick to Win 7 through the coming years? MS has pulled their OEM licensing from sellers as of tomorrow, as I understand it. Can Win 7 be run without activation? Not legally, just functionally. There is no financial constraint, and I really want to keep this system. Any thoughts, constructive, unconstructive, positive, negative or antagonistic will be thankfully recieved.
P.S. On a previous solved thread, I tried to "rep" someone who helped and couldn't figure out how to do it.

A:Window 7 forever

Pulling their OEM licensing from sellers doesn't mean you won't be able to stick with Windows 7. Afterall the real end of support will not happen before 2020...Plenty of time!

Just check regularly incoming motherboard system specs but one can still install the now old XP on actual system, so...!!

I have windows 98 with ie6 and firefox 2 installed. My problem is that oftentimes it takes 2-3 minutes to switch from one open window to another or to open a new web page. My computer whirs and clicks forever and while it is doing this I can't do anything else ecept press alt-ctl-del to end the process and even that takes a long time to accomplish.
At first I thought it was a problem with ie6 so I installed firefox. Firefox worked fine the first few days but then it began behaving like ie6 taking forever to navigate between open windows. I tried disconnecting from the internet by turning off my dsl modem but the 'puter just kept whirring and clicking.
I ran a reg scan with cc and it reported no issues.
Any ideas?

Please note, I am typing on a DIFFERENT computer (IP address) than my other PC that has the problem - specifically a Windows 10 "Forever Loading" Problem, I believe. It is a 3 year old DELL, with Windows 10, so I cannot run the above suggested SysInfo Utility.

That said, I had an automatic regular Windows 10 update, which took forever and ever. While it seemed to be finishing; my DELL logo appeared, then I get my welcome screen and it allows me to very S-L-O-W-L-Y type my password; then my center screen wallpaper appears, but never any of my desktop icons. After much passed time, my task bar appears but no icons on it. The time appears in right hand corner of task bar, but the real time never advances. Lastly the dreaded spinning blue circle remains in the blank Task Bar. I have tried unplugging overnight, restarting, and the same thing. The Windows start button appears on task bar, but nothing works, because nothing has loaded on task bar or on my desktop. I have left it on overnight in hopes of a wishful escape of this endless loop it is stuck in.

Checking online, I have tried various suggested processes (getting to Task Manager, trying to restart explorer.exe, running new task (msconfig), tried to get to Safe boot to reboot, but cannot do any of those things due to the dreaded spinning blue circle. I simply can't get anywhere except to Task Manager, but nothing actually works within there either. Help Please?

So i got this Dell Laptop to fix...weird thing is

it will be stuck on the load-up screen for 15-20 minutes or more, then logging in will take another 10-15 minutes...

I tried looking into the system configuration through msconfig

disabled most of the startup programs down to the two most important ones
also played around with the "system services", but no luck...both will still startup the laptop really slow...

it has a 1gb ram and all updates/drivers are installed...

i also tried swapping the hdd with another laptop, still the same thing. I do not suspect it to be a bad hdd

but even after swapping the hdd, it will still take a very long time to load up and login....

occasionally the explorer.exe will shoot up to 50% CPU usage without me doing anything...

i believe these two are related in some way...

any ideas...thanks in advance

So i'm having an issue where my cover photo and profile picture won't change on my laptop (aka lockscreen). The pictures currently on my lockscreen were my old cover photo and profile picture on facebook, and have since changed on facebook. I uninstalled and then re-installed facebook. I made sure profile sync was turned off and everything. Now, I changed my profile picture for microsoft, and that worked, except on the lockscreen page it is the same old facebook picture.
With the lockscreen wallpaper, it will not let me change it at all. In the personalization settings, it will let me browse for a picture, but will not load the preview.
I have tried everything. I've spent two days on the forums trying to figure this out. I have done the sfc /scannow several times. I have checked for virus. I checked to see if the new update messed with it, and I couldn't find the exact update everyone else was referring to; it didn't exist on my computer. The only thing that worked at all was when I did the registry editor, and disabled the lockscreen altogether. (computer>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>POLICIES>MICROSOFT>WINDOWS) I didn't have a personalization file, so I made one and added the NoLockScreen option and set the hexadecimal value to 1 to turn the lockscreen off.

Now the issue, I would like to have a lockscreen. I do not care is it is my facebook profile and cover picture at all, I am just getting very aggravated by the constant picture that I have to see every ti... Read more

About a week and a half or so ago loading media files takes forever. Whenever I click on a MP3 or AVI file it takes about 30 secs before it loads. In the meantime I get a Windows Explorer has stopped responding dialog and I can either shut it down or wait for it to load.

I've run Spybot, Adaware, and installed ZoneAlarm. I keep getting a message that my computer is trying to access another comp on my network.

I've also tried restoring to an older restore point with no luck. I have no idea what may be causing this. Any help would be massively appreciated.

Could I possibly be infected? I am having problems with accessing any and all webpages. At first, I thought it was just a Mozilla issue, but the same problems occur in Google Chrome and IE. I will type in a URL and press enter and sometimes it will take forever to load, and if I click on the link again, it will bring it up instantly. It seems as if it is stalling. And other times, if I click on the link for a second time, it will say "done" on the bottom left hand side, but it will certainly not be done! I have been having this problem for weeks now and it is driving me crazy!
I have run Spybot, Adaware, Spyware Doctor, Malwarebytes, my AVG antivirus scan, and the free Symantec one on the website. Nothing has been found wrong!
I tried restoring my computer to 4 different restore points but they were all unsuccessful.
I tried uninstalling Zone Alarm, thinking that was causing the problem, but nothing changed. I had k9 web protection on my computer, but uninstalled it weeks ago and I am still having problems. I have the same problem running my wireless or using an ethernet cable; on my network and at a friend's house.

IE, Opera, FF Chrome, all have problems loading the same websites while other sites load right away.

Just for an example... racerxonline.com will not load on any browser, but only on one of my windows 7 pc. My second win7 and linux pc work fine using the same router and all three computers are hard wired to the router as I don't have or use WIFI.

Here are the steps I have taken to resolve the issue with no success over the last couple of days:

1 Deleted and reinstalled all browsers with no add ons.
2 ipconfig /release..... ipconfig /renew
3 I use ccleaner all the time
4 swapped ethernet cables with the two other computers
5 swapped ethernet ports on router that other two computers work fine with
6 checked all start up programs in start up folder and all basic nothing new or odd
7 ran full scan of malwarebytes, awdcleaner, avast, windows defender on and updated

Hi, recently i encounter this problem. When i shut down my computer(acer), it started the updates download and it would get struck at there for hours. I am forced to shut it down.

Are there any solutions and why this is happening?

A:window 7 updates taking forever

I recently shut down my netbook and there was four updates to be installed. It seemed to take forever but it eventually finished. You could start your computer and go to Windows Update on the Control Panel, download the updates manually and install them before shutting your computer down. While you are there you can view update history and see what was installed successfully and what wasn't.

Hi all. I have four pc's at home, two desktops and two notebooks. Suddenly, one of my notebooks takes forever to open IE. I'm running Verizon DSL and the notebook is a Lenovo ThinkPad Z60M, WinXP Pro. When I open a browser, it says at the bottom "detecting proxy settings." It sits like that for at least 10 seconds before opening my home page. Any ideas why this machine has to detect proxy settings and how I can make it do that faster? I know, I know, 10 seconds, gee, what a pity. I'm just used to instant browsing and the 10 seconds is very irritating.

None of my other systems takes more than 1 second to open my home page.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Computer: Not with the computer in question now, but here are some general specs. Running Windows Vista 32 bit Home Premium on a pretty cheap desktop Emachine T series 3626 which came with 1g of ram and 150g of free space.

Issue: After loading bios, booting from hdd, computer loses power during vista loading screen. After 4-5 tries computer does boot successfully but can lose power again at any time with no obvious reasons as to why. Computer won't even boot in safe mode.

*Note. If the computer had been running recently however, the first boot attempt is usually successful.

I have been dealing with this problem for about a month and a half now. It seemed to pop up just after I made some changes to startup config., I copied Reason 4.0 (music production program) and World of Warcraft to my 500 gig external hard drive and have ran both those programs from either my internal HDD or external HDD and also save data on both. I may have changed bios/cmos during that time but it's unlikely. About a 6 months ago I overclocked my computer, and a year ago I installed an extra 500mb of ram. Also my tower tipped over about 2 months ago while it was running but the hit wasn't hard and the computer kept running normally. I wish I could tell you exactly when this issue started and whether or not it was before or after the changes I have made in the past month and a half but I can't remember. Anyways I've tired all sorts of solutions. Here is what I can remember doing.

I recently purchased a HP Pavilion PC from Buy.com. The specs are:

Windows Vista Home Premium
AMD Athalon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+, 2600 MHz
350 Gig Hard Drive
2 Gig DDR2 ram

The problem I am having is that some programs take extremely long times to run. When downloading updates from Windows Update, I'll sometimes wait over ten minutes for the updsate to begin installing. The longest part if the update process is waiting for a restore point to be created, which I understand can take a while with a large hardrive. Other things take a long time to run or install as well. My printer, which I've updated with the newest drivers for Vista, can take five minutes or more to begin printing. After it starts it works fine, but it takes ages to get to that point.

Another program that took a long time to work was the uninstall of a Nero trial. It took almost a half hour for the uninstall to begin.. The window stopped at "Preparing Uninstall" with the progress bar moving, but it just sat there. Finally I left the PC to go to the restroom, and when I returned it had begun the uninstall.

I haven't added any programs to the PC that didn't run rock steady on my old XP system, and I've made sure to update any drivers or old versions as Vista recommended. I don't believe it's anything I've put on the PC myself, anyway, as it's been doing this almost since the first boot. Has anyone else had similar problems, and if so, is there a fix? So. I got Vista Ultimate on my computer.
It's great, smooth and everything, but there's one problem: it takes forever to shut down.
Every time I have to force-shutdown - press & hold the power button for 5 secs.
Once I had to go to this class, I shut it down before leaving, and when I got home, it still says "Shutting Down".
What's the problem, and how to I fix it?

A:Vista Installation taking forever

Interesting and frustrating problem....

Try this:
Download Ubuntu or Fedora (Linux), and put in on a flash to make it bootable. From there, plug it in, and boot from it from BIOS. If you can boot just fine, try using the "Install to HDD" icon on the desktop there to install it to your HDD. This will require a reformat, but thats good since you are reinstalling anyways. If this install works well, and quickly, then we know your drives are all good. (If you do this from a CD first, and it still is slow, then try it off a flash drive. Your drive could be bad)

Hi, ever since this past few weeks, vista has been taking forever to load. I tried waiting for about 2 hours and it still shows the loading screen. It happened after vista crashed due to a blue screen error. I tried safe mode and other modes but it still took forever. I did try boot logging, and it never produced any log even after an hour of waiting. I checked using a live cd OS. Other operating systems like solaris and linux which i installed on other hard drives loaded fine.

I tried taking out all the PCI cards and left just the DVD drives, hard drives and graphics card, and leaving in just 1 new compatible and well working ram stick but it still took forever.

I've tried the recovery cd, but it just didnt manage to fix the problem. I've also tried restoring the OS and running checkdisks but it still didnt solve the problem.

Can anyone help? i need to use the development software there quick and some other software which isnt available or working for unix.

Hey guys,

I tried to research the forum to see if anyone else is having issues with this and Google has been no help for me.
Whenever I try to remove a folder, I instantly get the message "This folder is shared with other people. If you delete this folder, it will no longer be shared" and it gives me the option to continue or cancel. After I press continue, Vista takes almost anywhere up to 10 mins (usually 6-7 mins) to delete the folder from my computer. Eventually the folders are gone but its extremely frustrating to have to wait almost 7-8 mins each folder to delete it.
I went to Manage Accounts and I see

Kevin-Administrator-Password Protected
ASP.NET Machine Account-Standard User-Password Protected
Guest-Guest Account Turned Off
Is there anyway around this prolonged time to delete folders. Will removing ASP.Net account remedy this problem? Because the account/group it saying its being shared by (USERS) isn't listed under Manage Accounts. Also I noticed this doesn't happen with new files I put on my cpu. I can delete those folders instantly. However any file almost older than 4 months ago, I get the 7-8 minute wait time.

ok, ive exhausted my own knowledge again on this one and im once again turning to this site for help.

as is always the case, because people have heard i can 'fix' things, i get given people pc's and laptops they completely destroyed. this time im sitting behind my girlfriends mum's laptop which wont boot into vista, instead it continously loads (the green loading bar screen) but never starts, nor hangs. as its not mine, i have no idea what shes done to it, she said she did nothing out of the ordinary, it just didnt work one day.

after each restart it asks to repair or start normally, starting normally obviously loops the problem again. repairing brings us into vista's repair console where it attempts to fix the problem, sometimes it says its fixed it, sometimes it says its unable to, and sometimes it says no problems found. each time the error is 'system volume on disk is currupt' and nomatter what it says, nothing changes.

i then booted into safe mode which worked fine (makes me think its not a hadware (hardrive) problem?) and i dissabled all startup services and programs etc, this didnt help. booted back into the repair console (ive been randomly switching between booting to the repair console from my disk with copy of vista and without the disk through the windows failed to boot screen) and tried a system restore, but there arnt any restore points.

then went back into safe mode and tried to run chkdsk, which said it would run on reboot, rebooting normally hangs... Read more

I searched in the forums for my question but could not find anything(I am sure there is)
Anyway , I just installed Vista Ultimate on a older hd (maxtor) on a new motherboard with a Athlonx2 4200. I am not sure what happened but now it seems when I reboot or turn on the computer , after the bios screen the screen turns black shortly and then you see the green bar loading Vista. I have clocked this at 6 minutes and 22 seconds I am not sure if its my older HD or what. I also looked at the in the vista troubleshooting about this and it didt really have a solution that would work. I dont have anything serously running or anything.
When I am on vista its super fast and I am happy , but this slows me down.
ANy ideas? I did everything I can think possible.

Hello there.

I use Windows Vista Ultimate 64 on a quad core with 8GB of RAM. My default browser is Firefox 3.0.10 - I tried IE and Google Chrome and had the same results.

There have been a few weeks already since - every now and then - the webpages I try to navigate take forever to load and end up with an error because it tooks too long to load.

I did many scan with Avast!, ESET and recently BitDefender and found nothing wrong. Same goes with Ad-Aware and Spybot. Everything turns out to be clear and clean.

I already know you have received assistance for this issue in a different forum followme1, so make sure in the future you do not post requests in more than one location. Just duplicates the efforts of volunteers who already have plenty of work to do in forums. Thanks.

have you installed a firewall other than windows and not switched windows firewall off?. that would cause the problems your getting. you can only run one!

Im not sure where to put this, but after doing any sort of upgrade to my software Vista 64 bit buisness, the computer takes around 20 minutes of booting to the loading bar and then crashing before finally making it to the user screen. If I switch to safe mode it boots the first time. The next try however it goes right back to the failure.
