Y510p periodically freezing during normal operations.

Q: Y510p periodically freezing during normal operations.

Hey, I recived my laptop a little over a week ago, and ever since I've been using it, the applications/laptop will freeze for a period of time. Sometimes recoveing and moveing on, other times I have no choice but to force shut down the laptop. There are times when it will freeze, and only 1 app is frozen, but the sound is running, or I can do other things while it works itself out. When this happens, sometimes I can open task manager, othertimes, nothing happend. Then even if I manage to open the task manager, I can NOT shut the frozen aplication down. Either the freezing workse itself out, and then it closes down like normal/should when telling it to close this way, or the computer eventually locks up compleetly. I did remove Macafee, and after reading some, used the total removal program from their site. However, this has not fixed my issue. My game still froze, forcing me to restart, and after restarting my web browser still froze for about a minute while trying to get here to make this post. What if anything can I do to find out what is causing this problem? I have tried updating my drivers from Lenovo, this hasn't helped. I thought about using the diagnosics tool from Lenovo, but those do not seem to usable by the IdeaPad series.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi Jinotad,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to inform you that the computer is not working as expected and freezing during normal operations, issue is same even after removing the McAfee Antivirus from the Y510P.

Performing OSRI (Operating System Re-Install) should resolve the issue, OSRI can be performed by clicking on NOVO button refer page no. 16 in the User Guide to perform OKR (One Key Recovery).

NOTE: Please backup the data before performing OKR as the computer will be re-installed to its factory settings.

Hope this helps!!!

Do post us back if the issue still persists.

This is the 2nd hard drive for this computer so I have all the disks to reload -- it's making a buzz sound and freezing during normal operations -- found out that critical files from windows 10 were missing and had to reload whole system -- in doing so I lost everything but windows - had to reload the realtek for sound because the windows wouldn't work correctly - I was wondering -- can I reload the orginal disks and start over?  I need help and have no warrenty on it - I've tried to contact Lenovo to find out anything and nothing - I am asking here because the nearest repair is over 100 miles away -- I don't know if it can be done - but can I re-load the hard drive with the orginal disks? where do I go to find the directions ? any help ?  Thanks

Look at the Task Manager Resource Monitor to see if you can tell what Processes are causing high disk activity.
Resource Monitor is a button the the Task Manager / Performance tab.

Hello,I got a virus yesterday that pretty much completely crippled my system. I don't know what the virus is called, it happened so fast that there was nothing I could do. I have Windows Security Essentials running, and MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. It started when I realized that all my google searches were going to some "insurance puma" website, so I knew I had a google redirect virus. I got a few warnings from MalwareBytes so I ran a full scan and thought everything was cleaned off, but then I randomly got like 30 popups all saying something like "write failure" and one that said "HDD write failure" and that it was corrupted or something ridiculous like that. It happens everything I bring up my OS. Also, a BSOD comes up that says IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. So I installed Spyware Doctor by PC Tools and ran scans, which got rid of a lot of things but I am still having problems. Also now, when I run a scan in Safe Mode, a BSOD comes up, but no IRQL line. Nothing is listed at all. I ran HijackThis to see if anything can be determined from that, but this is from safe mode, I don't know if that changes things. Also, the virus hid all of my files and folders. I will try to run DDR and GMER in normal operations, if the virus allows it.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4Scan saved at 2:49:28 PM, on 2/12/2012Platform: Windows 7 SP1 (WinNT 6.00.3505)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.7601.17514)Boot mode: Safe mode with network supportRunning pro... FYI guys, I bought a Y510p in the beginning of 2014, I am a university student that does ocassional gaming not a heavy gamer. Bought the laptop for college use and gaming on the side. I know the warranty is only 1 year and this is not why I am writting this complaint. The laptop is used normally, never dropped never abused. I like every aspect of the laptop but not the trackpad just under $1,200 I am not going to complain. In fact I still like it but it's sitting dead atm. Room Temperature : 20 - 25 CLaptop Cooler : Coolermaster CM Storm SF-19 USB 2.0 1st Problem: Fried MotherboardI was Skyping with my gf and like any other laptops I shut the lid so it goes to standby mode, I was going to go out for that night. Got home and opened the lid only the power LED light was on and no fan noise nothing. Tried every method Lenovo customer service told me over the phone (power discharge, etc). This happened just under a year I remembered I shipped it to Lenovo just a month before my warrranty expired. Just like any other warranty method, they will try to fix if they can before swapping the motherboard. At this point I was happy my Y510p got fixed. 2nd Problem: Fried MotherboardNot long after the "fix" which was only re-soldering the chipset which was written in the 1st repair invoice from Lenovo my laptop motherboard got fried again. Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

Sorry to hear of your problems.  From what you have described it is difficult to say that the 1st repair was only a "temporary fix" without knowing the cause of the 2nd failure.  The 1st repair may have been done properly and the reason for the 2nd failure could be something entirely different. Until you have it looked at you won't know.   Since you are at a university, check with the school's IT department and see if they will look at your laptop.  They maybe able to fix it for little or nothing.

In retrospect, had I been in your situation, I probably would have extended the warranty after the first repair since the laptop's original warranty was nearing expiration.  The extra warranty period would have at least given a peace of mind that the repair was good and there were no other problems.

Hi

None of the solutions to similar problems I've read seems to apply to me:

I use my PC for general purpose, but also to record and watch TV which is when this problem occurs: Every 5 or 10 minutes the Disk Activity goes to 100% and the Disk Queue Length goes to 10 - 40ms, but with very little data transfer taking place (often <1MB/s) and low CPU usage. This causes whatever video I'm watching (and everything else) to freeze. Disk Activity stays at 100% for about a minute, then goes back to working normally and everything is fine. See screen capture of Resource Monitor below.

I've run Crystal Disk Info (see screen cap) and HD Tune, and they both report that everything is okay.

System specs:
OS: Windows 7 64-bit pro
HDD: 500GB WD Caviar Green WD5000AADS as my only internal drive.
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 240
Memory: Kingston DDR2 800MHz 2GB

Any ideas?

Hi guys. I have a problem with my windows.

It's kinda hard to explain but as I wrote on the title, my windows is freezing periodically. It just happens every 1~2 minutes, and the freezing lasts about 1~2 seconds.

And curiously, during that freezing, when I see processes tab on taskmgr, all cpu usage is dropping to 0% except system idle process. In other words, contrary to most freezing, which the cpu usage of some processes goes 100%, this problem is just opposite situation.

I can't figure what is wrong. I used KAV 7.0 to scan my whole PC if there's any viruses, but it says it's all fine. I removed some spywares by AdAware but it doesn't helped my situation. And, there were no suspicious processes when I looked into taskmgr.

What should I do? I don't wanna format my pc..

Please help me.

Exclamation Computer freezing when copying files
Now I know what your thinking: its probably the hard drive.
When the HD is running full out (i.e copying files or playing games) the computer randomly freezes. I mean, in the middle of a transfer that lasts longer than a few seconds there is a chance of the computer completely freezing on me.(no BSOD either...) I was lucky and managed to copy all my important pics and documents, but all my games and 2 years worth of bookmarks were lost.
First off, I tried copying the files from the supposed 'faulty' hard drive onto my secondary drives. Since the transfers were freezing halfway on Win 7, I went on to my Ubuntu installation on the same harddrive to try and copy my files only to find the computer freezing again. So having eliminated the Windows installlation stability, I determined it must be my HDD, and decided to run a spin write level four check only to have it run to a critical error about 2 days through the scan. (I think I have the error message codes if anyone can make sense out of them...)By this time Windows 7 was completely not booting, and was freezing on the windows logo loading screen.
So I decided to sacrifice my games and bookmarks and reinstalled Windows 7 to find the same error.
Being fed up with the same error again and again, I decided to replace the suspect of the problem ( I was sure it was the HD.)So i replaced it with a 750GB Segate Barracuda, and recently when I was copying a file again, the same ... Read more

My system is periodically (every few seconds) freezing briefly for a split of a second.

System:

CPU: C2D E8500
Mobo: GA-EP45 DS3 F4
PSU: Enermax 625W
RAM: 4 GB DDR2 1066
Gfx: Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 (Catalyst 9.6)
Sound: Creative X-Fi "extreme music" (installed latest drivers yesterday)
HD: 2 x Seagate 500 GB S-ATA2 (32 MB cache, firmware updated)
Mouse: Logitech MX 310
Kbd: MS Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 v1.0 (using Intellitype drivers)
TV: Terratec built-in HD TV decoder card (software versions 5 and 6 (beta))
DVD ROM, DVD R/W
WinXP home SP 3 (up-to-date)

The effect is most noteable when watching TV, where I experience constant stuttering and sound glitches (muting or squeaking).

I have already run rootkit checks, chkdsk, and killed all expendable processes using Process Explorer, disconnected all USB devices except mouse and keyboard, but the effect remains. One observation I have made in Process Explorer is an apparent correspondence between the freezes and the Idle process periodically briefly consuming 100% of CPU power. There are no discs in the optical drives, and autoplay is disabled for all drives. The system is not using a swap file. Windows update is set to manual. Windows firewall is turned off (I am behind a Fritz DSL router with built-in firewall).

The only thing I haven't checked yet are IRQ conflicts. I can remember the TV problems not occurring just a few weeks ago, but I cannot tell what might have caused them to start. The only soft... Read more

I have an HP Pavillion dv6700 laptop, had it a bit over a year. Running Windows Vista 32bit. It has worked fine until the last few months, and within the last wk or 2 it has gotten very bad..

Periodically it will freeze up for about 5 seconds, usually I can move the mouse but I can't click anything. Also if I am watching any video it will freeze and sometimes the audio will skip and then after it starts up again the video will speed up to catch up with where it's supposed to be. It happens when I'm running firefox (v 3.0.12) and sometimes when I'm not. It happens a LOT when I use my built in HP webcam, and especially when using it in a web browser. If I use it in a web browser, firefox will crash within a couple minutes. However, I do not always have the webcam turned on.

It froze up at least 4 times while writing this post. Not sure if this has anything to do w/ it but my video drive is NVIDIA GeForce 7150M / Nforce 630M.

Please help.. thanks.

Ive got two problems, which may or may not be related to each other. The first problem im having is my google searches sometimes get redirected to unrelated sites. I can work around this by simply pressing back and then clicking on the link again, and it takes me to the correct site. The second problem is sometimes when I run a game it will either freeze up or slow down for a few minutes before returning to normal. Ive run taskmanager while this has happened and when it happens it says that System Idle Process is anywhere from 50 to 100 percent, depending on which game im running. Is it possible a virus could be making itself invisible to taskmanager and hiding any CPU it uses under system idle process? So far ive scanned with Hitman Pro 3.5, Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware and found nothing.EDIT: I am running windows XP

Hello there, I have had my IdeaPad Y510p Laptop - 59369999 for 2 years without any problems, until today.  I started watching a video & everything froze for a good 5 minutes.  I held the power button until my laptop shut down, when I turned it on it said "scanning and repairing drive c". It started up normally, I gave it time, moved the mouse once everything had loaded & it froze again. Then the screen went blank with the cursor working, then the cursor dissappeared. Does anyone know of this is a simple fix? Thank you!

A:Y510P Freezing After Start Up

My guess is that the hard drive is dying.  If it will start, try getting a copy of CrystalDiskInfo (free),  Otherwise, see if you can hook up the drive to another machine to test it and to get as much as you can off of it.

Hello 8-forums.

I'm posting on behalf of my little brother since he isn't the sharpest when it comes to computers. Today his computer started freezing and crashing out of nowhere at completely random times. I couldn't pinpoint an activity he was doing which might have caused it.

On top of that a pop-up kept coming up on his screen about his screen driver having crashed and has been restored. I happen to have the same laptop and I've had this problem for a week or 2 too, but nothing happens when it shows up on my screen (unlike his, where it crashes the computer). His screen now also has blue matrix-like lines all over his screen as a result of todays crashes.

I asked him to send the Zip-file from the DM log collector tool. He only had a BSoD once and he didn't notice the error code. The rest were freezes (forced to restart) and crashes (no BSoD screen).

Hope you can help find a solution to my brothers problem.

Hi Snejxjens,

Welcome to the 8forums.

Please remove some files to increase the free space to at least 10-15%.
Every partition needs at least 10-15% free space so Windows can do its thing in the background.
   Warning
Less free space could cause BSOD's

Please remove / disable items from the startup in taskmanager
These programs could interfere with the boot process giving you trouble and increase the boot time.

Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from the manufacturer.

Hi there,

I have been having problems with my desktop for the past 4-5 months, have tried so much and looked on almost
every thread relating to lag and stuttering without finding a solution.

I have had the PC for nearly 3 years, built myself.

Specs:
CPU: Intel i7 7700k ( swaped to a celeron G3930)
GPU: Geoforce 1070 (taken out for testing)
Motherboard: MSI z270 pro carbon (swaped to an ASUS prime z270-P for testing)
Power supply: EVGA Supernova 850 W Gold G2
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4 3000 MHz (tried individually)
Storage: Samsung 960 EVO M.2 (boot drive) and a Seagate BarraCuda

The problem occurs every 5-10 minutes with normal use, but every 20-30 seconds while playing games. This becomes more often for both the longer the computer is turned on for.

Things I have tried software wise:
-Clean install of windows 10
-Update/reinstall drivers for every component
-Change resolution and refresh rate of the monitor
-Disable prefetch and superfetch

There are no errors in event manager leading me to assume this problem is due to hardware. I have tried unplugging my GPU
and using my CPU's onboard graphics, the problem still occurs.

Screen recording of what the freezing looks like:

This problem 100% is not related to:

A:Freezing and stuttering with normal use

You post that the problem is 100% not ram however I do not see where you tested the ram and what you used to test? Unless you use something like memtest and or prime95 [ram test] for a minimum of 1hr, then you really do not know if the problem is ram or not.

I have checked the PSU readings in the BIOS, there are no anomalous readingsClick to expand...

While this has some validity, it does not test under a load [which is where a pw supply would most likely have problems]
If you want to test a pw supply, you use the motherboard mfg's monitoring software while running prime95, OCCT, or IBT [intel burn test] If by chance your board mfg does not have monitoring software [which I know asus has] then you can use the intel extreme tuning utility. The intel utility will both monitor and do a stress test.

Ok, so this isn't your everyday freezing/lag issue. I can game run programs no Problem. This issue I'm experiencing is When I go to type something, weather a Document or just in the browser bar, I can start typing, then I it won't type, but then all of a sudden the stuff I was typing, appears. It's almost as if the hard drive stopped spinning for a split second. The funny thing is I am running a Samsung Evo 1TB SSD drive and not a roundy....The roundy one, just stores my Data and Docs. My SSD has everything else, programs/Games.

I know you can't do a Chkdsk on an SSD...but wondering if anyone else has a similar issue with an SSD.

For about a week now, my computer has been very slow on start up in normal mode and will freeze constantly during use, the only remedy being to just leave the computer alone for a half hour before it unfreezes. I've updated and performed full scans using SUPERAntiSpyware along with Malewarebytes Anti-Malware several times (and ten minutes ago) without any dangerous files being detected.

I have windows 7 and I'm currently running in safe mode with networking, though it appears that I cannot install/uninstall programs?

Any help is much appreciated, if this is malware I would like to quickly fix it before my computer becomes unusable.

HelloThis infection changes settings on your computer so that when you launch an executable, a file ending with .exe, it will instead launch the infection rather than the desired program. To fix this we must first download a Registry file that will fix these changes. From a clean computer, please download the following file and save it to a removable media such as a CD/DVD, external Drive, or USB flash drive.FixNCR.reginsert the removable device into the infected computer and open the folder the drive letter associated with it. You should now see the FixNCR.reg file that you had downloaded onto it. Double-click on the FixNCR.reg file to fix the Registry on your infected computer. Please download aswMBR ( 511KB ) to your desktop.Double click the aswMBR.exe icon to run itClick the Scan button to start the scanOn completion of the scan, click the save log button, save it to your desktop and post it in your next reply. Please download TDSSKiller.zip and and extract it.Run TDSSKiller.exe. Click on Change Parameters Put a check in the box of Detect TDLFS file system Click Start scan. When it is finished the utility outputs a list of detected objects with description.
The utility automatically selects an action (Cure or Delete) for malicious objects.

Computer Specs:

MSI K9MM-V (Motherboard)
AMD Athlon X2 64 Dual Core 6400+
Saphire x1950 pro 512 MB (AGP)
2 GB G-skill DD2 400
Creative X-fi
Western Digital 320gb SATA
Maxtor 100gb SATA (Not raided)
APEVIA 500w PSU

When the computer crashes, there are no artifacts or any video distortion. The screen simply stays on the same frame that it was on when it crashed. The sound loops for about 10 seconds and then stops. The only way to fix it is to hold down the power button until it's off.

I have run memtest86, but the ram is perfectly fine according to the tests.

I have removed the X-Fi card, but the freezing still persisted.

The video card was tested in another computer and works 100 percent.

I have reinstalled windows XP twice; still crashes.

If I am not mistaken, it is either a faulty MOBO or PSU. I have no problem with buying a new one of these.

What do you guys think?

Im new here so im sorry if this isn?t the correct place to post this.

So lately this is what?s been happening, everytime i boot in normal mode i wait for the progams and things to load up but everything seems so slow and after some minutes after i click on something to do anything the pc simply freezes, no Blue screen of death. It just freezes and i can?t control the cursor anymore,

I?ve tried waiting for like 30 minutes but it just stays there forever, only solution is to switch off the laptop on the button.

Im writing this in safe mode with networking and that?s how i have been able to use my laptop lately(in safe mode) because like i said before, it just won?t work right on normal mode.

I runned sfc/scannow and it said that no violations were detected, but for some reason i can?t open the CBS.log file to show to you, i typed findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt in the cmd but it won?t open the file, im not sure if im doing it the right way.

I would like you too tell me what information you need because im new here and im not sure, i have my system specs info in my profile if you need.

Thank?s in advance.

Hi guys, I was wondering if anybody could assist me with this problem on my PC, I've been trying to fix it now for nearly two months and I have no specific idea of what's causing it.

It started two months ago, and the basic description of it would be that mid task (internet browsing, opening one of my audio applications etc) it just seems to freeze up. The mouse cursor can still be moved, but the window I am currently using turns white. I can click other windows but then they will freeze too. Whilst this is happening, my HDD light on my system is constantly illuminated. I've managed to view Resource Manager whilst it happens and it looks like my HDD Activity goes through the roof at this point. Anywhere from five seconds to five minutes later, everything returns to normal, and anything I've started during the 'freeze' will open up. I've noticed I can also hear my hard drive start working a second or two before it comes back to life.

I've defragged, ran CHKDSK on my drives, ran Seagate diagnostic tools, and no errors have come up. I've ran various Malware and Virus programs, and the system is clean.

I thought it may be down to RAM (I have 4GB, 2 x 800Mhz DDR2 and 2 x 1066Mhz DDR2) as I have mixed speeds (although both clock in at 800Mhz), so took out the 1066 sticks. This didn't change anything. I played with the BIOS settings for the RAM, changing the voltage to factory specified and the latencies, but no result. I've ran Memtest and received no errors or problems.

[Hello,

I wasn't sure if I should put this under malware or vista...

For a couple months my computer has been extremely slow to do anything 70% of the time, including simple things like open a folder, play an mp3, open control panel, etc. It has occasionally had periods (several days in a row) where it will run really loud for 5 seconds before shutting down and restarting on its own. When it does this it does it consistently every 45 minutes. Then it will go a week or so without doing that all on its own. (I have been good about keeping the vents clean and blowing out the interior).

But last week, sister in law came in from Miss., and used facebook a great deal(that's the only change we can think of), which we've never used, and the computer went nuts. Now it freezes anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes after starting in normal mode. The power button has to be held down to shut it off and then pushed again to start again. It starts and runs fine in safe mode with networking, no problems. But starting up in normal mode now, it consistently has a problem starting either 4 or 5 times in a row, each progressiv... so, i turn off my computer last night. wake up, and it wont boot up.

this is the first time in months that i've had it off for a whole night.

so i try to boot up, it gets stuck at the loading screen. restart, same thing. since my processor is overclocked, i downclocked it to see if that could be doing it. still nothing.

try safe mode, boots fine.

so i try a system restore, still nothing when i try to boot up normally.

i was thinking about doing a repair with the install cd. but i think i've lost my cd key. its not with my disk, and im not sure where it could be.

is there anything i could do/check?

Thanks!

Hey Everyone,

Just wondering if you guys could help me on this weird issue that started happening recently with my new system. As from the title, when gaming (so far every game... oblivion, COD2, Fable, Rise of nations, etc) after a while, sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes half an hour, the game will freeze, the sound will loop and do a feedback sort of thing then start playing again, usually the performance is downgraded slightly. Rebooting doesn't seem to help much...

I'm not overclocking at all, nor have I been, plus I have never seen the nvidia notificiation for heat so i'm not sure its the video card (drivers 84.21). The soundblaster audio card is rather old, but using the drivers off the creative site. Haven't had problems like this before.

Any suggestions?

I have been spending the last 12 hours reviewing threads in this forum for solution to my issue with no luck. Start-up Repair has been run-all routines successful. System restore cannot locate any restore points, I have been unable to open explorer to download malwarebytes. sfc scannow completed verification phase but I am not sure if there are other phases beyond that that need to be done as well. I was able to run chkdsk and hardware diagnostics - no issues found.

Hardware related is my battery. I has lost it ability to charge. Could this be the source of my problem?

BTW when I start in mode the Windows Help and Support Window pops up for no reason but then freezes...weird. When I close it I get very limited functionality (windows explorer will open) and everything moves at a glacial pace.

Hi, my computer will always randomly freeze for 1-3 seconds when I do normal tasks (like using chrome and skype). The freezes cause audio and mouse to also freeze during that time.

I tried to swap CPUs, get a new mobo, use different RAM and nothing works. I've got this problem since Windows 8. But its been progressively worse. Now I also sometimes have problems POSTing and the display will turn black when I boot up to the login screen.

I used latencymon to check which drivers are causing the problem and when I disable my GPU drivers the stuttering is gone. I don't have any of these problems when using DirectX apps. My GTX 660 has the latest drivers installed.

I posted some more info into this issue with LatencyMon. It looks like it has something to do with dxgkrnl.sys and Wdf01000.sys. They both have the highest DPC and ISR counts. Not sure what to do cause i cant reinstall DirectX.

AMD Athalon 64 3200

which ran EQ2 just fine for a couple years, has started freezing up for about 5 seconds every 5-10 minutes and then it jolts back into the game as if nothing happened. I have no idea why.

The other symtom is that the sound will continue to play while the screen freezes, and then right before it jolts back into the game, the music skips really fast like a skipping CD, and then it's all normal after it jolts back.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Hello,
This is my second time posting on these forums. I had great help last time for my problem and really appreciated it. Now i'm back with another malware, i tried to fix it myself with no avail.

My current problem has to do with "System Security." I think i got it while browsing a web site from a pop-up, i thought i had avoided it, but then System Security kept popping up, scanning my computer and saying i was infected with "Lsas.Blaster.Keyloger." My desktop background was also changed to a black and red wallpaper saying something about my computer being infected and that i need to fix it.

I tried fixing the problem by scanning with ad-aware and registry booster, i used both in safety mode because every time i start the computer in normal mode it either freezes or restarts moments after it starts loading up the desktop. In safety mode i also deleted:

c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\13998594.exe

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\13998594

as well as the system security folder(s)

I checked:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
for
13998594
but i didnt find it in there nor any other weird sequences of numbers.

So now, I am stuck with no idea what to do next because:
1) I can't start my computer in normal mode.
2) I can't run Malware bytes, Spybot Search and Destroy, and ComboFix in Safety Mode.

As of now, my computer is still freezing up or restarting as soon as it starts up in nor... Read more

Hello,

My laptop is slow to boot and will run for 5-10 minutes in normal mode before it freezes and the mouse cursor disappears. At this point it will be completely frozen and I must hold the power button. In safe mode, it seems to run fine without any issues. I have gotten the BSOD twice with this problem, but never long enough for me to actually read what it said. If it makes a difference, my battery is nearly dead and I have to leave the laptop plugged in almost always.

The following symptoms could be entirely in my head...but I figured I would just give all of the information. I think I hear a slight ticking noise on startup and it seems like the fan is working overtime.

The requested .zip file is attached.

Thank you very much for any help. I'm willing to upload any more information you need if you'll tell me how to do it, I'm not overly computer-savvy.

Thanks,
Bob

2 days ago my computer randomly froze up when I had a few chrome windows open and a few other applications. The mouse can move around but nothing on the screen is responsive. I figured it was a one time thing and forced shut down and rebooted. It again froze up about 3 minutes later and now every time I use it it freezes from within a few minutes of logging in to up to an hour. Even if I just log in and don't touch anything it will freeze at some point in time. Last night I used it for 6 hours and thought everything was fixed but when I woke up it was again frozen. It also seems to be lagging a little when opening new tabs and applications which it never did. It works fine in safe mode and stayed on for over 24 hours with no problems.

Dell Vostro laptop
3ghz 2GB RAM
250GB HD 50% full

What I have done:

Restored to a date of last week when everything was working - didn't help
Ran updated versions of AVG and Malwarebytes - clean and didn't help
Turned off all start up items in MSCONFIG - didn't help
Turned off all non microsoft services in services in MSCONFIG - didn't help
All the drivers in my device manager seem to be working as I see no exclamation points or anything

I googled around and tried to figure it out on my own but can't seem to figure it out so if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. If you need any more information please ask and I will provide. Hope it was clear and concise.

Thanks

Okay i got a virus some how dont know how that really isnt relevant surpisingly.
i noticed it because avg picked it up and i then qaurentined it.
afterwards i used Four diff AV programs just to verify it precense.
All three found it in the exact same place under the same name and all that.
so i rebooted in safe mode, and proceeded to delete it.

I deleted the actual file, which was annoying like usual...
i had to right click on the .dll and go to the properties and remove all the permissions.
Very pety and frustrating... anyways after i deleted them,

I ran the same Four AV programs and they picked up nothing.
then i ran a specific scan with avg, only in the "system volume information folder"
i would have deleted it from there it manually, but it take like an hour,
to go through all the CMD crap, and changing variables, anyways..
it picked it up in there as i hoped it would, i then deleted it from there

afterwards i defragged my whole machine to make sure there wasnt pieces of it anywhere
after the defragging was done, i scanned again w/same 4 AV programs & found nothing
OBVIOUSLY it was gone lol.
i rebooted the system and let it boot up normal this time

A few days ago, my laptop started acting strangely, like when I opened skype, the program initially would not allow calls and would freeze then eventually would freeze with any use whatsoever, followed by any others that were open, until the only option was to shut down the computer. I have suspected that skype is the culprit, but even when not using it, the same process would occur, except starting with a different program. Even before the computer froze up, I was unable to use Task Manager or System Restore. For task manager, an error box came up that said something like "security tools unable to initialize," but I can't recall the exact words and couldn't do a screengrab.

So I booted up again in Safe Mode with Networking and everything worked fine, though it isn't terribly convenient to have to use it. I ran GMER and MBAM, and the scans came back clean. ComboFix was able to eliminate some problem files when I used it, though, but when I try to boot up into Normal Mode the problem still persists, though at this point I'm reasonably sure that it isn't a virus. I've also gone through Event Logs, and I've seen some reports of memory slowing down, as well as my System Information for Windows saying that BIOS is reporting the wrong values for the memory. Also ran a scan of the system, which reported that there were corrupted files that it could not fix. I´ve been having this problem for a few days now, when I start the computer, after a few minutes,no matter what I am doing or if I am not doing anything,it will freeze, the mouse and keyboard wont work and the clock stops, the 2 little monitors that show my internet connection stop flashing too...sometimes,it freezes for a few seconds and then works, and the same thing happens over and over again until it finally freezes forever...other times,it just freezes once and stays there,I´ve waited hours for it to work and nothing...

the only solution is to shut down using the button, and I know that is not a good thing to do..I did a system restore,I restored it to a day before the problem started, but when it restarted to finish the restore it froze again and the restore wasnt completed,I had to shut it down pressing the button and I realized later that I lost all the restore points I had...

in all these days,I´ve done everything we are supposed to do,I´ve had problems with other computers,so I´m used to it,this computer is about a year old and these are the specs:

HP Pavilion Slimline s3041la
Vista Home Premium Edition
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+
2.00 GB ram
400GB HD
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE
AVG Antivirus
Ad-aware
I have both Firefox and IE, they are both used, because these computer is shared with other people..
when the problem started I hadnt installed anything new...

I dont know what else I should post...I already scanned it with AVG and also did an online scan with kaspe... Read more

But one of those other people certainly could have, right?

You might look through Add/Remove programs for installs with dates in that range.

Also, look in the STARTUP group.

Hey guys,

I'm totally new to this laptop experience and not very good with computers - help please!

I just purchased an Acer Aspire 5252-V440 laptop computer running Windows 7 and, even under light usage (not using a lot of applications simultaneously)... even sometimes just when using internet explorer alone!!!), my computer keeps freezing time after time after time for around 20-30 seconds. When I try to play around with the computer by minimizing the frozen application, or to try to Alt-tab to another application, sometimes I'm able to, sometimes I'm not. When I look up at the frozen application's top bar where the program name is shown, it says: "[program name] - Not responding".

So far, every tiem this has happened, after that 10-15 or 30 second freeze, it just magically unfreezes and everything is back to normal. BUT this happens all the time! it's driving me crazy and I don't even know where to start!

I'm not very good with computers, however, I can follow instructions. I will post whatever system specifications I can find you just below:

(I have copied this from an ad selling this exact same computer model below):

The system combines 2.3 GHz AMD V Series processor V140 for enhanced graphics performance and excellent multitasking, ATI Radeon HD 4250 graphics deliver crystal-clear images for best entertainment on a 15.6-inch HD CineCrystal LED-backlit display.
Running on Windows 7 Home Premium operating system, Acer Aspire AS5252-V440 is optimiz... Read more
