error 1802 on a x240

Q: error 1802 on a x240

Hi my x240 suddenly started to show error 1802 although i never touched the networkcard. dont understand it.tried updating bios but didnt work, now i want to get the networkcard out, so i can atleast use it without internet connection. My Problem is that the Users Manual recommends to deactivate the internal batterie bevor performing any actions on the notebook. But I cannot enter the BIOS to do so. when starting and pressing F1 or Enter to go to the BIOS. The Error 1802 occurs and all i can to is power off..now what can I do? is it sufficient to open the base cover and immediately disconnect the battery connector without disabling it in the BIOS or do I risc damaging the notebook? Thanks alot for any help

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an Omnibook xe4400 on which I'm trying to recover the factory installation (xp pro) using the set of 3 recovery cd's. The process goes well until it's about all the way through the 2nd cd, and then it stops, and gives this error message: " Error #1802 Image file is invalid or corrupt". It then switches to DOS, and I have no idea what to do. I read on another forum that I need to get new recovery cd's, but I can't find anything about that on HP's website. Can anyone help me?
Thank you,
Steve Shelby

It's a long haul through HP's web site to find what you need (I've been through this process before and HP's web site leaves a lot to be desired).

Start here, and find your exact model. The next page should list XP Professional Recover CD's in a number of languages. The price is $25.

I have an rebuilt IBM Thinkpad T-30 that I purchased from a good computer store. It was preloaded with Windows XP but I did not receive a recovery CD. I had my magicJack plugged in when someone called starting an un-ending ring that I couldn't stop or accept. I ended up shutting off my computer but when I started it back up it displayed "xxxnetwork not found". I restarted and entered default configuration. Now it says when re-started: "ERROR 1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI network card". I have removed the wireless mouse and the magicJack but it still won't start without giving that message. I don't even know where the miniPCI card is!

I have been out of work and starting school next week. I am using someone else's computer to ask for help. THE STORE WHERE I PURCHASED THIS COMPUTER HAS SINCE CLOSED. Can anyone help? On the back of the laptop it says "Type 2367". I know this is older but it is all I have to work with right now.

Hi,

I have an IBM ThinkPad R40 laptop (very old) with win xp/ sp2, not sure how many of the components are the original ones it came with though.

My first problem is that when I tried to install SP3 (from the Microsoft site), my computer didn't take too well to it.. any time I would restart the computer it would say the installation had been successfully completed.. but I saw that it still didn't say "SP3" on the menu when right clicking on My Computer/ Properties. So, during one of the times when I went to restart the computer, when it came back on it gave me a disk read error and then Windows wouldn't load.

I think I had my Kaspersky Antivirus program running on it while I was trying to install SP3 in case that could have had anything to do with
it.

My second problem is, that while trying to get Windows to start, I had reset to the default settings in BIOS. But then when I restarted the computer, I got an 1802 error saying that I had an unauthorized network card and that I should remove the card etc.

I read the Wiki 1802 error help page, and I think the most practical of its suggestions in my situation would be to do the pin 20 thing, I think something about putting a piece of tape over part of the pci card before putting it back in but I don't remember right off... but then again I installed SP3 under the assumption that everything would be fine, as well as figuring BIOS's default settings ought to be legitimate for the computer to function more than sh... A:Disk Read Error while installing SP3, then 1802 error

Hi Butterfly, where did the disk read error appear? Was it on the black screen you see when you first power on the computer? A disk read error is normally the result of the computer not being able to read from the hard drive. When that's the case, it's time to replace the hard drive.

Does Windows start or do you ever get as far as the Windows logo?

Hi,I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T410 laptop (Product number: 2522AA9, BIOS: 6IET85WW (1.45) ). A glass of water was poured on the laptop and it fellt down from desk. Motherboard was damaged I bought a motherboard installed and it worked. I realized that WiFi card was also damaged as it fellt down. I bought exact the same model (If I recall correctly it is Intel WiFi card) but I am getting 1802 Error: Unauthorized network card at boot. I searched for this problem a lot and found some pages that explain how to fix it. No method worked for me. One of the solutions is that, there is a no1802.iso file it must be burnt onto a CD but I don't have any CD/DVD Burner. So I created a bootable USB stick with this iso file and booted laptop from USB stick but it didn't help. The problem is still there. How can I solve this problem? Thanks.

A:Thinkpad T410 and Error 1802

The "no1802" utility was only for much older machines.  It won't work for you.

The same model isn't enough.  You need one with a Lenovo FRU on it.  The same card can have different firmware on it.  When Lenovo or another manufacturer gets a machine approved for sale, they need FCC certification regarding emission levels in U.S. and other similar things in other countries.  The FCC certification is for a particular model computer and the wireless card(s) that were tested with it including the firmware tested.  You probably bought a card that was certified for use in a didderent manufacturer's computer.

Hello and welcome,

The whitelist is on the Lenovo support site in the Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad T510, T510i, W510

Note that to pass the BIOS whitelist a card must be the correct model (Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 as one example) AND have a Lenovo FRU number (60Y3231 to match that example).

Hi,I know that there are many articles about this problem, but could I have a specific answer? I have a T540p, variant 20BE005YGE with a built-in Intel 7260 AC WLAN card. Its FRU is 04X6007 and is working fine. I wanted to upgrade to a newer Intel 8265 ACand I bought one naively at amazon.de at Amazon. Its FRU is 01AX702, P/N G86C0007J510 and I am quite sure that I bought an original product. Now I have the well known 1802 error that tell me this is a "Unauthorized network card".I do not want to break my BIOS with some of the known solutions. Is there any way to upgrade(!) to a whitelisted 8265 card in my T540p?In the whitelist pdf "t540_fru_bom_20140108.pdf" I do find only 7260 cards. That means I do not need a replacement, I wish to upgrade... I must say that I am very surprised with this problem, because my opinion was that  Thinkpads  are the most serviceable devices. And than such a serious restriction, also in the time after warranty period...? Best regards,Klaus

Hello fellow board users and team, My first post here. I have just ran Windows(10) updates and shut my Thinkpad T460s to upgrade my RAM. After powering up, before booting the system, this error pops by: "1802: Unauthorised network card is plugged in - power off and remove the network card. System is halted" So I swapped back to the previous RAM, same situation. I have removed RAM from the socket. SAME ERROR.The Thinkpad is bought brand new from Lenovo partner and is 3 days old.I have also read similar threads on this forum when users updated their BiOS or changed their network card. Well my case was Windows update and RAM change. It just happened to another user at our work and he did not run updates, he only upgraded RAM. Any help would be appreciated

I got a T420 on ebay, one in excellent condition. It has worked just fine until I started using a mini dock. The first time the laptop was running, I placed it into the dock and it worked fine. I put it to sleep and when I woke it up the network card wouldn't work and it seemed like the machine froze. I took it off the dock, it was still frozen, pressed the power button to power it off, pressed power again to start up and got the dreaded error: 1802 - unauthorized network card is plugged in power off and remove the minipci . . . . . .   I restarted in safe mode, was fine, restarted in regular mode, was fine. Placed into dock. Tried shutting down. On restart same problem. So now I have to start it up only when not docked then place it on the dock. I used the hardware info tool to get all the detailed device info. The network card is: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 AGN 2x2 HMCwhich I believe is the default original card that came with it. I have read the another thread here about people getting this error with other non-whitelisted cards and the whole messed up thing with Lenovo and not allowing people to use "unauthorized" cards. But this appears to be the original card and the problem only happens when docked.  Does anyone have any ideas or solutions?! Thanks for any help!

Hello everybody, I wanted to upgrade the wifi card in my t420, from what it came with(just said ThinkPad b/g/n on the receipt), to the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 (Puma Peak) 3x3 AGN since i needed to be able to use a 5ghz network. I specifically choose that puma peak one, because i saw in the t420 manual that it was supported, and i'd heard of issues with unsupported cards. So i finally got the wificard, and even though i picked a supported one i get this message:1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Power off and remove the miniPCI netwok card (8086/422B/8086/1101).System is haltedWhat have gone wrong? And could i be because this card wasnt ordered directly from lenovo, but from some random danish vendor who had it? I've tried to google around, but without luck. Only thing i can think of trying right now is taking it out again and tripplechecking that its seated properly. Hope you guys can help me, and i hope i wont have to hack the bios whitelist or something, seeing how this network card should work without that. Thanx in advance!  /Chris  edit:after some more searching and finding this link http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-69757 it would appear that the issue is due to the card not having been bought directly from lenovo. but they dont have the card available in my country (denmark). which basically means im screwed and would have to find some sort of workaround solution. fml

A:1802 Unauthorized network card

Yes, this is expected. Each computer manufacturer has their own whitelist for wireless cards for standards compliance. Hence, a non-Lenovo card will cause this errorYou'll need to use a modded BIOS, which may or may not be available for the T420 yet.

I too got  the unauthorized network card error.I have two lenovo y50-70 running centos7. One had a broadcom card and the other had the intel card. The intel card was supported easily by centos7 but the broadcom card was not. So I bought the same model intel wireless card from some random vendor and replaced the broadcom card and got the error. So my choices now are to get the driver to work for the broadcom card or use a usb wireless device. I think we should have the option of turning of that authorized card check through the bios. I have no complaints using Centos7. The only problem was the broadcom wirelses card. Broadcom does not seem to support it on a Linux machine, at least not easily. If Lenovo is going to continue using those cards they should push broadcom to support it on linux or not use the cards atr all. Cheap lesson. I'll just have to shop around more next time I buy a laptop.

Hi all :-) I know this topic has been around a lot, but until now, I have not found a solution which I'm happy with, I hope anybody can help me! I bought a L540 some time ago and my version had not the AC wireless adapter included, but I thought "ok, maybe I will just get that a bit later, Lenovo is pretty open to people who would like to switch stuff". So yesterday I bought the "Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260" (the one who was only available in another model) and replaced it with my current one. Startup and - "unauthorized network card". I started googling, apparently there is some kind of whitelist in the BIOS - I did not buy an Apple device for exactly this reason (also there are other reasons, but mainly this). So how can I solve this? Is there a foolproof procedure which I can apply so my new wireless card can work? I have seen some tutorials, but they are not exactly made for my Laptop. If there is no procedure, where can I buy a genuine adapter? The Lenovo store won't offer me any wireless cards. Oh and does that mean that I can't replace ANYTHING with a not genuine part? In case I would like to switch my HDD or RAM? I hope you can help! If you need more information, just let me know. Greetings from Germany,Pausmann

I have a t430u model 3351 that is 13 months old.  I updated all the drivers through the Lenovo system update, the last thing to update was the BIOS.  The BIOS successfully updated to version 2.08 and everthing was fine.  Then I had to reboot the computer due to some windows updates, upon turning back on I get the 1802 Unauthorized network card is plugged in. I never replaced the network card, it is the original card so I think the BIOS update is causing the problem.  I pulled the network card and the FRU P/N on the card is 04W3763.  With the card out it boots up again but I can't believe the card is the issue since it's the original part in a 13 month old machine. Not sure what to do, I'm hoping there is a way to roll back the BIOS maybe. Any suggestions appreciated.

A:1802 Unauthorized network card after bios update

Good afternoon and welcome to the community.

A question... Did you purchase the machine new, direct from Lenovo, or used from a 3rd party?

Regards.

Edit to follow-up: Looking at the FRU BOM for the T430U:
http://download.lenovo.com/parts/ThinkPad/t430u_fru_bom_20130822.pdf
you'll see the section for wireless adapters. There are three for WLAN, one Intel, and as best I can determine, two RealTek. Your FRU, which again as best I can tell, is a Broadcom, isn't on the list. That would be a reason for your 1802 error hitting the BIOS whitelist.

So, if you got the machine from a 3rd party, what likely happened is that they swapped in the non-whitelisted card and applied a modified BIOS to make it all work. Once you updated with the official BIOS, you essentially reapplied the whitelist and the boot fails with 1802.

Greetings all. I've been having connectivity issues with my Thinkpad Yoga 11e. I'd be online and then network dropped in the next instance and the computer was having problems reconnecting to the wifi signal. I'd say it's an internet issue except no other device in the home (iPhones, iPad, Kindle, HP work laptop) don't experience this problem.  To combat this, I opened my machine up, saw I had an Intel 7260NGW, went to Amazon and purchased the same model. I'm not looking for an upgrade, I'm looking for fewer dropped connections.  Fast forward to this evening and I get the "1802: Unauthorized Network Card is plugged in - power off and remove the network card (8086 / 0881 / 8086 / C070)". How do I have compatibility issues if I bought the same model card? And what card can I get to replace the one I have if not the same model?  Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me!

However, this drive is rejected by the P51s firmware and gives the "1802: Unauthorized network card is plugged in" error and refuses to boot to windows. http://www.kingspec.com/products_detail/productId=60.html Has there been any resolution to this issue that I am unaware of? How do I force the P51s to stop rejecting this SSD because it thinks it is an "unauthorized network card"?

If I plug it back the same error is thrown. Could you suggest a solution? Also, where can I find a list of whitelisted wlan adapters for Lenovo Yoga 260. May be they've installed a non whitelisted one on this refurbished system, although it would not make sense for it to throw the error just after opening the case. Thanks for any help. All the best.

Howdy HiVolt,

I don't think that one will fit.  There are several different lengths of m.2 SSDs and the one in the X240 is 42mm.  The one you linked is longer than that.

Up until recently the highest capacity 42mm part was 128GB IIRC, but I think someone has come out with a 256GB 42mm unit.  [edit] I'm not able to verify that just now.  [more edit] Yes I am.  See post below.

Here's their compatibility list.  Please note I have no personal experience with this company.

I'm looking for a repository for old wireless drivers for the X240. We need to run some tests with old drivers vs. new but I can't find them to download.Thanks.

A:Old drivers for X240

Hello and welcome,

I don't have a direct answer but there may be a way to finesse this.

Just did some poking around in the Win 7 wifi drivers.  Using the 64-bit Win 7 Intel driver,  I copied the link to the latest and replaced the "version" part of the link with an older version extracted from the readme.

I was able to download nz0wh0w 2016/05/10 by modifying the link to the latest version.

Does that or similar get you what you need?

Z.

Just wondering if it were possible to swap a non-backlit keyboard with a backlit keyboard on the x240? If so, what is involved? I know that it was possible for the x230, but wasn't quite sure about the x240. Jeremy

Dear All, i have Lenovo X240 which I bought from France two years ago. It's serial number is PF00YEU9. Currently i am in the UAE on an international assignment. I took my laptop to local service dealer for screen replacement for dead pixels but he refused to take the laptop, saying he was.not sure whether the laptop covered under international warranty or not. He asked to to talk to Lenovo customer service at 800035702810, and if they agree, I've to show an email evidence to local dealer that it is covered under international warranty. I tried on this number but it's not responding. I tried to find customer support email but it's not available on lenovo's website. Only one month warranty is left on my laptop and I am not going to visit France in next couple of months. Please advise what to do? regards

I?m unsure if I?m doing the right thing here, never posted anything like this before. The X240 laptop I have was working yesterday, and I put it to sleep so I could continue working later. However now it won?t turn on at all, except the lights over the F1 key, F4 key, and Fn are on. It wasn?t plugged in, but this has never happened before. I?ve also taken out the battery in a myriad of different methods people have suggested online but there?s been no mention of the lights still on.  If if I could get some help, that?d be great. I don?t know much about computers.

I recently purchased a refurbished x240 - I am having 2 issues, which I would welcome help with: 1. the areas with buttons on the top and bottom of the track pad also move the cursor - this often causes an inaccuracy, with the cursor moving slightly before or after pressing one of these buttons - is there anything which can do done about this, or is it a design fault? 2. my computer arrived with no internal battery, just a 6-cell external battery - the seller claims that the internal battery only functions if the external battery is a 3-cell, and that there is therefore no point in me purchasing an internal battery - can this be verified? Thanks for your help!

Hello, In short, fn key does not work in lenovo x240 with latest bios update (2.35). I can swap fn and ctrl keys, and then function keys works via the ctrl key, but the fn key does not work as ctrl. I think this problem is OS independent (tried w10, w7, ubuntu). I have tried installing older bios for this model from the following page:https://support.lenovo.com/es/en/olddownloads/ds035950 But I can only install a few of the newest ones, as the older ones report that they are not compatibles with my system (though the readme says w7-w10 compatibility). No luck with any of the ones I could install. I also tried the hotkey features integration from here, no luck either:http://support.lenovo.com/es/en/downloads/ds029026  This question has been answered a gazillion times, but ill do it one more time as there is no solution posted anywhere. Examples:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X240-Fn-Key-not-responding/m-p/1551442/highli...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X240-Fn-key-not-working/m-p/1844428/highlight... Cheers and sorry for cloning this question one more time (I'm sure you can smell my desperation).

Hi, We are experiencing issues with our x240-x260's Win 7 64-bit laptops Windows 8.1 and up seem to be ok so far The CPU is reaching 70 degrees and even goes up to 75 degrees in one case we have seen so far We have checked the task manager and the CPU looks fine, everything is appearing normal (CPU levels are average not high at all). Memory is also looking fine. Battery is also dead between an hour or 2 as well. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Thanks

I would like to add NFC Module to my X240 20AL which originally does not have NFC on it.I found "04W3800 Foxconn 20792S NFC module without antenna" in the FRU list, but as it says, it is "without antenna". And I can't find any FRU for NFC antenna.Does this module needs an antenna to be purchased seperately. or it works fine if I just purchase the module 04W3800 and install it?

Servicing a X240 laptop, m/n 20AMS0G10F, came in because of no AMT option available in the bios. Called Lenovo Tech Support, case#304TQ58, and replaced the system board. When laptop first powered on noticed AMT option was available, set the time and date, rebooted and ran the Maintance Disk ver 1.86, after input of the s/n and m/n rebooted the laptop and AMT option is now gone.Called Lenovo Tech Support again and was told to replace the board again, replaced the system board, powered the unit on and checked, AMT option was present, input the time and date, rebooted and ran the Maintance disk again, input s/n & m/n, reboot and again the AMT option is gone.Any AMT experts out there? Any way to bring this option back? HELP! Have another that had the board replaced, has AMT now but afraid to run Maintance disk.
