Encrypt a .bat file ?

Q: Encrypt a .bat file ?

Does anyone know if its possible to encrypt a .bat file so when you edit the file it won't be readable ?

Preferred Solution: Encrypt a .bat file ?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello Jon,

Yes, you can use the Encrypting File System (EFS) in Windows 7 to encrypt a .bat file.

Hope this helps,

I wanted to encrypt a single text file.
So I right clicked Details > Advanced
checked the bottom encrypt option- Compress option left blank
"Details" button greyed out!

Not that I need it, but Details button also greyed out when selecting Compress instead.

Anyone got an idea how to handle this?
Don't really want to buy a big encryption program...

Why do you need Details? Just select the encrypt check box and hit ok.
After the file is encrypted then you can open Details.

Hi,

Does anybody know any way that I can encrypt a file which is still accessible by another program....I.E - a configuration file for a program....

Basically there is a configuration file for this program which tells the program the amount of users that are allowed to log in.

If anyone knows/locates where this file is stored they can edit the amount of licences. Therefore I need a way that encrypts the file, doesn't allow it to be edited but it could be viewable.

Hope thats clear.

Cheers.

Within the last two months I built a new computer ever since that I am having problems with my photo files. I shoot almost totally using NEF format. Nikon RAW format uses .nef as its extension. But since the new computer all my photo files have the extension. "Nero Encrypted File"

I have a network to my laptop etc and this does not have ?Nero? installed and it views my main computer photo files correctly (i.e. all showing with the nef extension.

When installed the software on my new computer I think that Nero was installed first, followed by CS3, Perhaps if I had done this the other way round this would not have happened! I don?t know.

I have tried my computer > tools> folder options> file types and all the settings seem correct. I did try changing the NEF file and then putting it back to the original setting. But nothing has changed. I understand some people have had problems when a programme called Nero Photo snap is installed, but I don?t have that.

I am running Nero 7 Essentials it seems to have taken complete control of all these photo files for some reason. It?s most annoying. Any advise/help will be appreciated.

Hello,
I have a zip file inside in a navigation program.
The .zip file contanins some files in UTF-8 format and some in Ansi format.
When the navi run, it goes and read the .zip file and use it while the navi run.

The problem:
I want to hide (or to encrypt) some files inside the .zip file (not to be readable from anyone, but to be readble from the navi program).

If I lock the .zip file with a password, then the program don't run (it gives intialization error).

If I encrypt the file I want not to be readable then the program run but the files inside the .zip file can not be readable from the program.

Do you know how can I encrypt (in order not to be readable by anyone ) those file inside the .zip file but on the other hand to be readable (from the running program) .

Thanks in advace.

A:How to encrypt .zip file that will be readable from the program

You cannot. You have to decrypt the data for the program to read it.
If no one can read it, nothing can read it. A program is somebody (logically).

3) Is their any way we can make any file encrypted or if we need to how we can remove encryption of any file.

A:what are encrypted files ?? do we have any way to encrypt or decrypt and file ??

An encrypted file or folder is a file or folder that only someone with the appropriate permissions can view.

If you are the administrator of a computer with folders or files on it that you have created then you can encrypt them and only someone with the appropriate permissions i.e you and anyone else you give permission to can see and view the contents of that folder or file.

You can only do things with the file if you created it or are the administrator or have the appropriate permissions.

All of a sudden today I started getting a pop up from the systray asking me to back up my encryption key, but I don't use disk encryption and didn't ask to encrypt any files.  How can I tell why this is happening?
Also, it did seem to start happening after I copied data from a hard drive from another computer to my desktop to copy to another drive, but that data has since been deleted from my desktop, so shouldn't exist anymore on my machine.  Not sure if that's
a coincidence or not, but thought I should mention it.  When copying the data to my computer, I didn't get any prompts about encrypted files.

After spending time, adding certificates, pass, anything, and by having the software scanning for keys, it found many, and it showed me that now files are "Encryptable", good god.
I selected few files, and pressed decrypt.
And I was hit by this screen, saying that decryption failed for this stated reason!

I wish this time someone has any sort of support or has any information of that sort of error, or have any other person or place or forum that he/she could refer me to.

As a rule, I don't run NTFS on any of my systems and I advise against it in most situations. The reason is that I consider the additional stability and security that NTFS offers to be outweighed by the disadvantage of making it impossible, if not near impossible, to clean adware/spyware/viruses from an infected machine. But now I am presented with a new dilemma:

I have a laptop that I am using more as time progresses. It has a lot of information stored on it about my clients' user names, passwords, e-mail configurations, product keys (which they do lose, occasionally). Losing the laptop to a thief and the potential that the thief would discover the valuable and sensitive information stored on it . . . Well, I think you get the idea.

I am thinking of converting the laptop to NTFS and encrypting the many folders that contain sensitive information, thus protecting my clients from any potential damage due to loss of the laptop.

Here's the proposed scenario and conditions:
The laptop's hard disk is converted to NTFS.
Folders containing sensitive information are encrypted.
The OS on the laptop crashes and is unrecoverable.
I am forced to trash the existing OS and set up Windows 2000 or XP fresh and clean and start over again.
What must I do now to prepare for this day so that after the OS is loaded again, I can access those encrypted folders?

A:To encrypt (folders) or not to encrypt--that is my question.

Hello Richard,

If you have the Compress contents to save disk space box checked, then that would be why Encrypt contents to secure data is grayed out. You can only have one of them checked instead.

If not, the check using the tutorial below to make sure that EFS encryption is still enabled.

I have a friend that want to encrypt his entire hardrive, anyone has any suggestions on the best program to use? I think it's a 40gb Maxtor hardrive in case that information is needed! Thanks

A:Encrypt Hardrive

The whole drive ? Sounds unreasonable, as if the friend doesn't have a real good idea of what they want & why.

I say this because MS released a program called "Private Folders" for about a week, and then withdrew it as a result of corporate concerns.

But I think you can still get it here:
http://news.com.com/Microsoft+hands+out+private+folders/2100-1012_3-6092153.html

It creates a password-protected file directory. You put stuff in, but it doesn't come out without a password. Seemed to work, but 2 weeks later I forgot the password so now even *I* don't know what's in there.

Worse, I can't delete it. So it just sits there, taunting me.

Given that it works, was made by MS and does everything I could think of a person would want to do, I can't imagine why a person would want to PW protect the whole drive.

How would it boot ?

I believe it is becasue when you originally encrypted the file, it used the original user account information to create the hash, etc for the encryption. When yoou reinstalled, did you recreate the user accounts with the same names as originally created?

If your computer ever becomes permanently unbootable and if you didn't back up your key with those files then Windows encrypted files will be lost. Beware of that. Accordingly people recommend True Crypt instead.

A:Don't want others see your files. Encrypt them with XP

Blade Jones makes a good point regarding NTFS encryption. It is a very valuable feature but you must understand the implications of using it. On this forum and others I have seen many cases where a user has reinstalled the OS or upgraded to a later version, only to find that important encrypted files are no longer accessible. This is a serious matter. NTFS encryption scrambles the contents of a file using a key that is a part of the user account. If that key is lost, and it will be when the OS is reinstalled., it is almost impossible to decrypt such files. Creating a new account with the same name and password will not create the same key.

It is possible to backup the encryption key before an OS reinstall but few people do so, or are even aware of the need.

With any encryption method involving a password be very sure you do not forget it! Forum rules do not permit help with lost passwords.

A:encrypt folders in xp

Encrypted File System (EFS) is not included with Windows XP Home. It's meant to be used in a corporate environment so the encryption keys can be centrally managed. If you would encrypt a folder and not back up the key (before reinstalling Windows or resetting the account password), the files would be permanently lost. No chance for recovery. EFS also does not prevent others from deleting the files. It only prevents others from opening them. NTFS file permissions would have to be used as well to prevent deletion.

Hi and welcome

Be very careful encrypting. Lose the key and your data is gone. Usually ppl encrypt their data. Encrypting temp doesn't make it more secure. Encryption also slows down the process.

Could you tell us why you want to encrypt?

I know their are web based solutions for sending encrypted emails

https://www.sendinc.com or Online Encrypt/Decrypt your text messages - infoencrypt.com ??? (never tried them do they even work? beats me)

I think it gets more confusing and difficult to setup and use if you try configuring computers and email clients to do this?

so, what is the best way to send and receive encrypted emails? is it even possible?

thanks

A:how to encrypt email? easy/best way?

Hi,

it is possible. Depends on where you would like to encrypt them: locally or on the web servers.
Have you heard about PGP/GPG before?

GPG is an open source free version of PGP.
The GNU Privacy Guard - GnuPG.org

Wikipedia info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pretty_Good_Privacy
It's available for almost all platform, if you have Windows OS worth to try is GPG4Win.

In short PGP/GPG uses symmetric key cryptography.
First you have to create your own key (public and private key).
Your public key is for people who will email with you - they have to know what your public key is, because they will use it to encrypt message for you.
If you want to send encrypted message to other person then you will need their public key and your private (secret key).

It sounds complicated but in practice it isn't.
Here are some tutorial vids you will be helpful I hope:
GnuGPTutorial - YouTube

Above example is how to encrypt your email/files locally, but there are also webmails which offers this feature - they do all this work on web servers like: Countermail or HushMail - however I don't know how much they are reliable and secure since everything is hidden for end user.

I'd recommend to use PGP/GPG encryption on your own computer if you have time to learn it. It's easy in fact but needs few minutes to understand how it works.
Setting up GPG, and learning it, would be next...but you will never get all your contacts to use it. Unfortunately.

Hi, I have a curious security question...
Let's say there is a person on a shared home network, and is connected to that network via LAN, but This person does not have administrative rights over the router/ISP connection.

If that person wanted to keep their Internet activity super protected, so not even the ISP would be able to get information from the packets they send/receive from their computer, would it be possible for them to achieve this?
If so, would they use either some type of physical layer of protection between them and the router? or through software on their pc?

I know it sounds sus, but everyone has a right to privacy, so I'm not asking any questions about why they want to be this strict with their privacy.

Thanks.

A:Possible to encrypt packets sent from one computer through LAN?

An HTTPS connection between a computer's web browser and some server on the Internet would provide Transport Layer encryption of the packets. Anyone sniffing packets anywhere in the data path would only be able to determine the source and destination IP addresses of each packet but not the actual content.

If the person using the computer wished to hide the IP address of the server they were connecting to, they could establish an HTTPS connection to a suitable proxy server which would then, in turn, connect to the target server.

Is there a way for me to encrypt files in Windows 7 Home premium? When I go to Properties > General tab > Advanced, the option to encrypt it is greyed out.

If possible, without 3rd party software please. If not, a link to some good free software.

A:Encrypt files in W7HP

I recommend truecrypt it's free software. You can encrypt os drive, data drives or folders.
TrueCrypt - Free Open-Source On-The-Fly Disk Encryption Software for Windows 7/Vista/XP, Mac OS X and Linux

if you want to encrypt without 3rd party you need to get higher version of windows 7 because i think home premium doesn't have that functionality

I expect this is going to be basic to the most of you but here goes. I am running Win 7 on my main laptop and XP on my spare. I am using a Freecom Usb hard drive to transfer files. When I go from Win7 to XP I find that the text on the files is green and can't be opened in XP. If I go back to Win 7 I find that they are encrypted and I have to decrypt to transfer them. How can I stop this happening please?
Also can I link the computers up with each other to save transferring in the above manner? Thanks in anticipation. Peter.

A:Encrypt decrypt, that is the question

"Green" files are encrypted, password protected, etc...

If you have bitlocker on or other HDD/ file encryption on Windows 7, that may be the issue.

OK i'm wondering if theres a way to partition say 10-20Gigs of your HDD when installing windows, encrypting it with a program like truecrypt or something and have it completely hidden, yet accessible when required? So when someone logs onto your computer, all your private files can be hidden (completely, not just locked)

I know only what I have experience with. And for this, I have none. If anyone could provide me with some options that would prevent anyone from removing my SSD or HDD from my HP Envy 17 and accessing the files on another machine, I'd appreciate it. I'm sure this is simple, but I just don't know. I'm running windows 8.1 CORE, reading about some things now. Maybe I should read more before I posted here. but I'd like to know what you guys recommend.

There is nothing out there to prevent someone from accessing the drive with the correct tools.

I have a WD Passport for a backup of my entire system.

I remove this HDD & put it away for safe keeping once the backup has been updated.

But now I want to encrypt this incase it falls into the wrong hands.

I would like 128 bit encryption & prefer to be able to just enter a password in & it unlocks the entire HDD when I plug it into any computer to access all files like a normal HDD.

What's the best program for this?

Thanks.

A:Problem with Encrypt and Decrypt

Did you have a password before you formatted? Try using that same password and decrypt again. Restart before decrypting if you have to.

Edit: password on your user account, if it wasn't clear.

Ok from what I can tell, the U3 program that comes on my Sandisk Cruzer flash drive is not going to work for what I want.

I think its nice how you can have certain programs open.

But I need access to this drive not only on pcs, but also Macs at school.

And the U3 isnt compatible with macs.

I'd really like the flash drive set up just like a normal HDD where I can easily drag & drop files off & on it & easily access it via My Computer etc.

But I also want it encrypted on both pcs & macs.

So is there any password encryption that I can put on here instead of U3 that will work on both platforms?

A:U3 isnt for me - how can I encrypt for macs & pcs?

Try TrueCrypt. Crossplatform and free.
