Need Help. Can’t find script engine “VBScript” for script.

Q: Need Help. Can’t find script engine “VBScript” for script.

After reading for a while I got to the conclusion that the problem is related to Kaspersky

I already tried to re-register
cd %windir%\system32
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
but it didn't work

This is what CP tells me.
C:\Users\Chris>reg query HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11cf-A4B0-00AA00

4A55E8}\InprocServer32

et Security 2013\x64\scrchpg.dll
ThreadingModel REG_SZ Both
OriginalDll REG_SZ C:\Windows\System32\vbscript.dll

Can anyone help me. I don't know a lot so the simpler your explanation is the better.

Thanks
And sorry if any errors ... English isn't my primary language

Preferred Solution: Need Help. Can’t find script engine “VBScript” for script.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is Kaspersky working or not working? If you are getting a VB Script error, either something was removed in error, or you have the OS locked down too tightly with the A/V software.

Hi,
I'm having the above titled problem after I removed Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 from the system.

Already tried KAV Remover & other uninstall softwares to clean up the Kaspersky's leftovers. Also tried various methods; re-register regsvr32 jscript.dll / regsvr32 vbscript.dll / etc..

To date, still unable to run any .vbs script files. Any ideas, please ?

A:Getting CScript Error: Can't find script engine "VBScript".

Let's have a little bit more of a general look at teh system - please post an MGADiag report.

(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into a Code Box in your response.

Please also rune SFC /SCANNOW at an Elevated Command Prompt, and copy the CBS.log to your desktop, zip teh copy, and then attach the zipped file to your reponse.

I just came across this error in troubleshooting an MGADiag report to solve a non-genuine message on a Vista computer.
It took me a large amount of searching to find the right answer to it - so I thought I'd post my solution here in the hope that it gets a little easier to find for others in the same position

CScript Error: Can't find script engine "VBScript" for script "C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs".

This was preventing the Software Licensing Service in Vista doing what it needs to - and consequently giving rise to the non-genuine message, despite a perfectly genuine install.

The conventional response is to re-register the dll using
regsvr32 vbscript.dll

This works fine in many instances - but in this case, although the registration gave rise to the 'succeeded' message, as it should (thereby showing that the dll was present), there was no change in the response from MGADiag.

The user had been using a registry cleaner - and this was in another forum, and she wasn't the world's most savvy user. All attempts to get her to properly follow reg query instructions failed.

Eventually, I got a clue to the problem from an obscure blog, which mentioned that some AV's blocked a particular registry entry, by substituting their own dll for the vbscript one.

The penny dropped at last - so I created a small reg file to put the default entry there instead.

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

I think I wrote in here once before and didn't get any help, but I'm going to try again.

No matter what I try to do that has anything to do with VBScript, I get a window as shown attached. At this point, I am pretty sure that this has something to do with Avast. But I don't know how to fix it. I found a link that gave some pretty clear, simple instructions at Solution: Can?t find script engine ?VBScript? for script. ? Tips from the trenches of advanced computer repair

The problem is that the key this article describes (HKCR\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11cf-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}\InprocServer32) as the one to change does not appear in my registry. Please see my screenshot showing the key I have.

Please, Please ... Can some computer guru out there help me out on this?

A:Can't find engine "VBScript" for script

Hi, welcome back to vista forums.

Sorry that you didn't receive any help last time you posted.

From my knowledge of what you gave me, it seems that your antivirus is blocking VBScript from making changes to your registry. Have you tried disabling it and then using VBScript?

My first thread and I am a novice re:computers. I was on yahoo reading a story when a "Microsoft security essential alert" popped up. It showed 3 viruses and recommended deleting them. I pressed the "clean" button and a program called "Setup.exe.vbe from ad2092dw.windowsdefenceproject2014.ne" appeared at the bottom of the screen and I was asked if i wanted to open or save. I selected open and a small window opened that said "can't find script engine "vbs script" C.\users\......\setup.exe.vbe". Does anyone know what I can do to fix this. I've had this computer for 5+ years and am running Vista Home Premium 64bit. Thanks

Hi,

I would like to know if there is any way we can control (or modify)the "change owner to" drop box list in windows for a particular resource (for example say a file) using a vbscript or batch script.

the reason i am asking this is because for usbstor.inf file , i have given ownership access to domain admin group via batch script, but since administrator and my id are appearing in the "change owner to" drop box, i am again able to regain ownership back and then modify the permissions for the usbstor.inf file. I have tried using subinacl for denying the take ownership permission for the administrator group and my id , but even then i am able to take ownership back.
any help to resolve this issue is reallyr really appreciated

On restart, I get the following message in a box under the banner "Windows Script Host" --Can't find script engine "VBScript" for script
"C:\program files\support.com\client\lserver\server.vbs".
I can get by the message, but when I pull up some applications, I get a box with nothing inside it.

This happened after I'd been working with McAfee tech support after I'd tried to upgrade to McAfee Internet Security Suite. I had ended up with a conflict on VirusScan since I had both the business and the home versions of VirusScan on the PC. The tech support asked me to uninstall all the McAfee products on the PC and then he'd reinstall.

During the uninstall I received a prompt if I wanted all the quarantined files removed. That sounded like a good ideal. I think the file listed above could have popped up in the system security check and could have been quarantined, not sure about that, but it does seem to make some sense.

Anyway, I was wondering if there was someone a lot smarter than me out there with some on advise if I can recover that script. Or if I have to reinstall XP or whatever. I was pretty cool It-wise when I was an OS/MVT assembler programmer 30 years ago, but not now.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

More specifically, does anyone have an idea/know of tutorials how to build a script compiler to compile my own script language into machine code? Thanks.

A:Any idea how to build a script engine?

Hi Leiki,

I guess there's no specifical tutorial to develop a compiler.
In the past, I wrote a compiler for a Psion Organizer II (build with a 8-Bits Hitachi CPU) to run more efficient programs.
In the first time, I built a syntax checker with the highest severity level (it is recommanded as your programs will directly affect the core of your computer).
Then, I developped a translator that computes itself addresses and branchments (both absolute and relative) in addition of its translation task. Before, I had sorted the instructions set according to the size each of them will produce after translation.
Beside, I wrote a test tool that emulates the translated coding step by step to check the content of every registers and then, a launcher to implement the program at a wanted address in the memory.

I hope that may guide you to develop your own compiler.

Hey all at TSG,
Hoping someone can help with an issue I have. Have had no troubles on my Dell laptop for 5 years and all of a sudden have had a jumble. I got rid of a lot of spyware and 2 trojans but still have the following issues:

-My search engines jump to random pages when links are clicked.
-Upon bootup I get an IE script error (although it is not even open) - - The url it is showing is hxxp://192.168.1.1/MNU_top.htm
-Upon bootup I now keep getting a Spooler Subsystem App error and then it randomly happens while computer is running.

I'm trying to get a search engine working off my Sambar server thing.

It comes with a perl script which i've been trying to use to search my website directory.

i've thrown the script into a text file at this address if you could look at it. http://24.141.16.237/docs/searchex.txt

Basically all I need to know is how to get it to read my site directory, like what I should put as the Document Directory, or Base Directory or just what needs to be changed in that script.

The program...up to the directory of my site is located in this fashion on my machine...

C:\Program Files\Sambar Technologies\Sambar Server 4.3 Beta 9\docs\tbSB\

the web address is: http://24.141.16.237/docs/tbSB/

I know this may be a complex problem but I would greatly appreciate anything you could do.

Thanks Big Big.

I keep getting this issue when trying to run .vbs files. This started because I downloaded and installed Bluefish, for web development. On setup, I selected to associate .vbs files with Bluefish (which I now realise was rather stupid). I realised that when I tried to run .vbs files, the opened up in the editor. I thought then that it would be a good idea to change the file association back to 'Windows Based Script Host' I then tried to run the file and now I keep getting these errors 'There is no script engine for file extension.vbs' every time I run .vbs files. I have done several Google searches and tried everything recommended; scripten.exe won't install as it says 'Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this system is newer that the update you are applying. there is no need to install this update.' I also tried (as suggested)
'Click Start, Run and type: regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\vbscript.dll'
And I got the "success" message 'DllRegisterServer in vbscript.dll succeeded.' but this made no difference.
I also tried, as I was getting desperate, to download an older version of vbscript.dll from the System32 folder and replace my copy, but this had no effect so I changed it back.
What do you think, any suggestions?

Cannot read the words very well, sometimes they are overwritten , sometimes they are huge or the writing is too thin to be read easily. For example, when I load a newpaper like NY Times, the columns are squeezed in the middle of the screen and isn't displayed so it is readable columns overlap and words and photos overlap or are sqeezed into a narrow column. I have downloaded new drivers for the display, played with display properties and cannot seem to find the problem. Wondering if it is a bug or virus or worm or something. I am really not a geek, so I need help. I don't know how to mess with registry things, so I use Registry Mechanic. But it has not fixed this problem. Hiya

The Windows Script Engine provides Windows operating systems with
the ability to execute script code. Script code can be used to add
functionality to web pages, or to automate tasks within the
operating system or within a program. Script code can be written in
several different scripting languages, such as Visual Basic Script,
or JScript.

A flaw exists in the way by which the Windows Script Engine for
JScript processes information. An attacker could exploit the
vulnerability by constructing a web page that, when visited by the
user, would execute code of the attacker's choice with the user's
privileges. The web page could be hosted on a web site, or sent
directly to the user in email.

Although Microsoft has supplied a patch for this vulnerability and
recommends all affected customers install the patch immediately,
additional preventive measures have been provided that customers
can use to help block the exploitation of this vulnerability while
they are assessing the impact and compatibility of the patch. These
temporary workarounds are discussed in the "Workarounds" section in
the Frequently Asked Questions section of the security bulletin for
this release.

Had rogue fake anti-virus "Windows Restore". After removal all files and folders were changed to hidden to make the drive look empty. I fixed this by manually unchecking hidden box under properties of each file(pain in ****). I keep getting script errors every couple of minutes now. Browser redirect still is going on(i think with Google only though). do not have access to windows install disk or boot disk. I have Hiren's boot cd if that helps.

I recently uninstalled Avast free anti virus software from my computer. Now when I boot up I get an error message that reads NDA Error: Failed to initialize Script Engine for Javascript. So it seems now that Javascript is not running because I am limited to what I can do while surfing the web, buttons do not work when clicked, certain web pages do not load, my computer's search funtion displays a blank page, etc. I googled the error message and didn't come up with much other than one person had the problem and stated that it had to do with Internet Explorer not having information listed (version, cipher strength, product ID) in its About Internet Explorer section under Internet Explorer Help section, and my IE8 does not have information listed either. So I downloaded IE8 without uninstalling the original IE8 that I was already running to see if it would update the info and it did not. Hello everyone!

It has been a while since I have been on here. I have had a few computer problems that I had to work through, and once again I had to do a Factory Condition System Reset. The second time in jut over a year. They did not know what was causing my problem. I talked to both Dell; my computer manufacturer and Microsoft who made Windows Vista. They boh could not figure out what was causing my problems. Microsoft recommended to go to my computer manufacturer. And Dell just said to do the complete System Reset, Also Known As: Factory Condition Restore.

Back to my questions about Script debugging and Script errors. Every once in a while I have Windows notify me of the Script errors. Also sometimes when I go to view a webpage or enter a website a message will pop-up saying that a script error occured that could prevent me from viewing the page properly and asks me if I want to continue. I do have: "Disable Script debugging?" checked for both "Internet Explorer" and "Other". I also get a little note in the lower left hand corner saying: "Done, but with errors on page."

My first question is: What the heck is Script debugging?

Second question is: What can I do about the Script errors that occur?

Third: Why do script errors occur or what causes them? I know there can be millions of reasons that they occur, but what are the most common ones?

Fourth: Is there anything that can be done to fix them from the viewer'... Read more

Step 1
Click on this link to download : ADWCleaner Click on ONE of the Two Blue Download Now buttons That have a blue arrow beside them and save it to your desktop. Do not click on any links in the top Advert.

See the screenshot where the proper download buttons are highlighted
NOTE: If using Internet Explorer and you get an alert that stops the program downloading click on Tools > Smartscreen Filter > Turn off Smartscreen Filter then click on OK in the box that opens. Then click on the link again.

Close your browser and double click on this icon on your desktop:

You will then see the screen below, click on the Scan button (as indicated), accept any prompts that appear and allow it to run, it may take several minutes to complete, when it is done, you will get a message saying "PENDING" , Ignore that & click on the Clean button, accept any prompts that appear and allow the system to reboot. You will then be presented with the report, Copy & Paste it into your next post.
Please note: the newer versions of Adwcleaner have a pretty colour display on some versions of windows and slightly different icons. The screenshots are from the older version but are basically the same

A:Cannot find script autorun.vbs

When antivirus or security software detected the autorun.vbs file as infected, the file will be deleted or removed or quarantined. However, other files (autorun.*） and registry value still referring to autorun.vbs, and this document no longer exists, hence the error when users double click to open a drive folder.

To correct and solve this error, follow this steps:

1. Run Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del or right click on Taskbar)
2. Stop wscript.exe process if available by highlighting the process name and clicking End Process.
3. Then terminate explorer.exe process.
4. In Task Manager, click on File -> New Task (Run…).
5. Type “cmd” (without quotes) into the Open text box and click OK.
6. Type the following command one by one followed by hitting Enter key:

del c:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a
del d:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a
del e:\autorun.* /f /s /q /a

c, d, e each represents drive letters on Windows system. If there are more drives or partitions available, continue to command by altering to other drive letter. Note that you must also clean the autorun files from USB flash drive or portable hard disk as the external drive may also be infected.

7. In Task Manager, click on File -> New Task (Run…).
8. Type “regedit” (without quotes) into the Open text box and click OK.

i have Windows Script Host / VBS disabled for security reasons and because it was not being used
recently something began attempting to trigger VBS
the result is the error " Windows script host access is disabled on this machine. Contact your administrator for details'
the problem is I cannot find out what is attempting to run a vbs script nor can i find any *.vbs file anywhere on the drive

i've looked at event viewer logs and see event ID 1000 that something is triggering the disabled windows script host but it doesn't say what process/app/exe/service etc attempted to start windows script host
took a look at updated and new programs over the time frame since it started and nothing is standing out as a potential culprit
does anyone know how i might track down what is attempting to launch vbs?
i didn't see anything obvious in task scheduler as nothing had run inside the time frame of the last vbs/windows script host launch failure
Cannot find *.vbs or .vbs in any local drive search as well

any ideas? thanks in advance

A:How to find what is attempting to run a VBS script

What makes you believe that a vbs script is being attempted to run? If you believe this is malware related you need to run scans with security scans other than you antivirus. A antivirus will not find all types of infections. For this reason I would suggest that you run the following scans. The tools being suggested here can not be used in the Windows forums, so I will request to have this topic moved to the Am I Infected, What Do I Do? forum. Please run the scans suggested below in the order that they are requested, this is a must for RKill. Post the logs generated by these scans in your topic in the order they were run. Please do not wrap your logs in quotes or code brackets or use use spoilers. Please download and run RKillRKill attempts to terminate known malware processes so that your normal security software can then run and clean your computer of infections. RKill will not remove any of the processes it stops, you will need to run security scans to remove any malware found. These settings will remain until the computer is rebooted, for this reason you must run your security applications before the computer is rebooted. Please download RKill and install it.When RKill is run it will display a console screen similar to the one below:After this has run you will see another image explaining that RKill has finished running and you should be able to run the scan. You need to click/tap on OK.When RKill has finished...
