cursor keeps scrolling automatically-NOT due keyboard/mouse

Q: cursor keeps scrolling automatically-NOT due keyboard/mouse

Hi guys, need your help!

The cursor scrolls automtically, not in all programs - but in youtube it puts the volume up to max, or in the search bar it scrolls all the way to the right - in photoshop it keeps scrolling the window to the max right, or in notepad it scrolls all the way down to the bottom. Even on the settings in windows 10 I find it difficult to click on what I want as it scrolls down to the bottom straight away

I ve tried a different keyboard, also tried the keyboard testor to see if one of the keys were switched on somehow, and I ve unplugged the mouse and it still happens. So I am out of ideas!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For the past few days now my mouse has automatically been scrolling sporadically when Im not trying to scroll anything (such as webpages, Word documents, etc). Its even doing it as Im typing this and my hand isnt on the mouse. And by sporadically I mean I dont know where its gonna go, up or down or up a little then down all the way then up again, etc. Its crazy. And, when I try to use the scroll wheel on my mouse, it wont work.

At first I thought it maybe it was a problem with my mouse's batteries, because I have a cordless mouse. So, I changed the batteries. It still kept doing it. Then I checked the cords and unplugged everything and plugged it all back in. Still doing it. The only two things I can think of to do next would be to uninstall and reinstall the mouse and see if that works, or go and buy a new mouse entirely. Both of which I dont want to do if I dont have to.

And, right now I dont have an updated virus scan program, though I hope to be getting a new one soon. I run my computer for spyware and such occasionally, and every now and again I use the Trend Micro or Panda Software free scan off of their site. I just havenít used them since this started happening. (Stupid, I know, I should use them more often, they just take up a lot of time.)

So, basically I've got two questions:

The first is, does anyone think this is or could be a virus that is causing my mouse to act all crazy?

And the second, if it isnít a virus or something, what could it be? C... Read more

any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Mouse cursor is moving automatically!

I think there is a "joke" malware downloaded via MSN that does this. In any case, it sounds like malware.

Do you have a firewall ?

Do you have an AV solution ? If so, what is it ?

Are the AV definitions updated ?

Do you have any other "odd" symptoms ?

Does the mouse move all over the place, or does it "crawl" always in the same direction ? Is the mouse USB, or PS-2 ?

I need to know whether Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center - Windows 10 differs in any way to the 8.1 version. Specifically with regard to the settings for an Optical Mouse ... does it have a setting whereby I can turn off Vertical Wheel Scrolling ? [see image]

Thanks in advance.

A:Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center - ? vertical wheel scrolling option.

I don't know about your particular mouse, however Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre shows that option for my Microsoft Comfort 6000 mouse. The version installed is 2.3.188.0 (64-bit), which I think is what automatically came through Windows Update when I clean installed Windows 10.

I also just installed 2.8.106.0 (64-bit) from their website and that's the same as the screenshot too.

Hi,
I'm a new poster. I need some ideas/help. For the last 2 years, I have had the issue below however it has not been an "issue" for me and I have just dealt with it. A few days ago though I upgraded to a better PC sound system and now I need to try to fix this thing.

What is happening is that ANY scrolling (on my mouse scroll or my keyboard scroller) or ANY sudden quick mouse movements while in Internet Explorer while listening to music via the internet (ie on youtube) causes a high pitched distorted like SCREETCHING through my speakers. The odd thing is that if I SCROLL OR MOVE THE MOUSE SUDDENLY for a bit longer once the issue happens on the internet while music listening it will "fix itself". The screetching will go away. Scrolling some more though after it fixes itself will bring back the problem---annoying. Another oddity is that the issue only happens while I am listening to sound while on the net. I can listen all day to music via say Windows Media Player without being on the net and move my mouse any which way and everything is great! But once the net gets going, the sound issues get going!

I have googled the subject. TONS of possibilities exist---dating back as early as the year 2000 that I could find---so that was like even in the stone ages of PC (ie. its not some Vista issue or some specific Soundcard issue or something)! I have tried all I can and am at my wits end. I have had the PC (HP Pavillion a6250t) for abou... Read more

How can I control the mouse cursor with my keyboard in Windows XP Pro? Sure it may not be as nice as the mouse and therefore I wouldn't use it always. Just when I code and need to do a little navigating. This way I wouldn't need to keep swaping from keyboard to mouse.

A:HOW: Use keyboard to control mouse cursor

I don't know if Win XP has the function, but go to Start, Help and search for mousekey.

In win98, you would enable it by going to accessibility options and turning it on there.

I'm running an Acer Aspire with Windows 7 that I bought back in February. Since I've owned it, I've had an intermittent issue wherein the mouse and keyboard inputs slow way down: the pointer will "stutter" when I move the mouse and there's a small delay to all my keyboard inputs. Just for s&g, I opened up the Performance tab in Task Manager the last time the problem cropped up (about 20 minutes ago), and my CPU usage shot up to 50% or more when I moved the mouse; normally it's about 20%.

In any case, simply restarting gets rid of the problem, at least for a few days or so, sometimes longer.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this and how to fix it?

Is there a way to move the focus to check boxes on websites and in programs without using the mouse?

Let's say you're in the options menu of a program like Firefox or MS Office, and there are options with boxes you can check or uncheck. I want to be able to navigate to the boxes using the keyboard instead of the mouse.

What I find is, you usually can move the focus to the item description (i.e. highlight the text) using Tab, but that only gets to the item description, not the check box. Which is odd, because why would anyone ever need to highlight the text in a program's menus?

Once in a while it does work - you can tab to the check box and check/uncheck using something like shift-click. But I can't remember where that works. Maybe MS Office but I don't have it on this computer.

I am on a laptop, where it would save a lot of moving the mouse around. It might not be much of a time-saver on a desktop.

I am running an HTPC on Win7 64-bit. I have a Microsoft Arc keyboard, no mouse. I can do most navigation, etc with a keyboard fine (majority of the time it's in Media Center anyhow) but there are a few applications/buttons that are inaccessible without using a mouse/cursor. Windows has Mouse Keys built-in but you must use the numeric keypad to control which is not an option for me (or most laptop users probably). I have done some searching but haven't found a solution yet. Ideally, in a perfect world, I wish I could do something as simple as when I hold down another button the arrow keys could be used to move mouse instead of normal arrow key movement.

I found that locking (windows + L) and login back in frees up the mouse again...but typically freezes shortly after pretty fustrating, especially when one of the main reasons I buy Lenovo is their trackpoint. I've seen people have similar issues but no resolutions in their threads.

I've had this issue from day 1 when I upgraded to Windows 10. I tried many versions of drivers downloaded and installed from Lenovo support, directly from Synaptics, and also using Windows Update which installed whatever it is that it installs as the driver package. All of them have the same issue -- when using two finger scrolling on the touchpad of my Thinkpad T430 on Windows 10, the cursor freezes for 2-5 seconds and does not respond to the touchpad usage.I am able to scroll without any issue of the kind using two fingers when on Windows 7 with a Synaptics/Lenovo driver, and also on Ubuntu and other Linux Live CDs (which use open source Synaptics driver built into X Windows system). I am suspecting a driver issue, which is buried so deep into Synaptics driver architecture that they are unwilling to do anything about it, with it possibly affecting a minor enough percentage of their users. What I have noticed is that the page fault counter for the SynTPEnh.exe process spikes through the roof when scrolling, at a rate of about a 1000 (!!!) page faults per second (while scrolling) and now sitting at half a million after an hour of desktop usage, fourth place among all processes after Firefox, Windows Defender and Windows Service Host. For a touchpad driver this should be a giant alarm bell ringing. I don't know if this is related to the issue, but it's not a good sign.Anyway, has anyone similar issues, and what can I do about it? This seems to happen mostly after alt tabbing from a game or even after closing a game. It doesn't matter if the game is full screen or borderless window.

What happens is that the cursor seems to not change into the appropriate cursor (or when it does it does it slowly), i.e. if I mouse over links I still get the arrow cursor instead of the hand cursor. The most annoying aspect is when it turns in to a text cursor split in half (see screenshot), it seems to go away after a while and returns to normal functionality, usually after moving it quite a bit.

I have tried changing the cursor style then changing back, as well as turning trails on and off.

Sorry for the quality of the screenshot I had to take it with my phone because I can't seem to capture the cursor. Happy to give more information on my system if required just not sure what you'd need atm.

I'm quite certain that this isn't a hardware problem because the scroll button of my mouse and the down keyboard button works perfectly fine. So i think this is a malware or a virus. I use adwcleaner and it doesn't fix the problem. The weird thing is, when i turn on or restart my laptop, it automatically scrolls down the icons in the desktop but when i try to press any key, it stops. After several minutes, it scrolls down automatically again. I have to press any key first before it stops again. Before this problem occurred, i have a similar problem but instead of scrolling down automatically, it deletes file rapidly whenever i try to click an icon or a file. Hello,

When i have an open window with scrollbars (eg the My computer screen), the scrollbars do automatically scroll down, and when i scroll up, they scroll down again. Same kind of problem occurs in Firefox, when typing something in a form (eg the google search field), my editor/type thingy, you know, the '|' thing, automatically moves to the right, and keeps moving. So, basically, it impossible for me to open My document etc, because immediately it scrolls down.
*It seems that the right arrow key is pressed all the time*

My first thought was that my keyboard was jamming somehow, however, after cleaing the right arrow key the problem still existed. Then I tried to remove the keyboard, but the problem didnt go away.
After that I run some virus scan/malware scans. (McAfee, MBAM, AVAST).
This way i removed some virusses and trojans, but my initial problem wasnt solved at all. Then I tried to run a Malware/virus scan in Vista *i have a dual boot config*. And then I discovered I had the same problems in vista.

Then I downloaded Zone Alarm security Suite and run a rootkit scan This gave me a amazing number of infections: 32002..... They all were of the same 'type' HiddenObject.Multi.Generic, and zonealarm had some problems removing/repairing them.

Then I ran Vista in SafeMode and had same problems with scrolling
However, when running w7 in safe mode, I can work normally and i dont seem to have these problems......

When I have multiple Internet Explorer tabs open, and I am scrolling over the thumbnail previews of these tabs down in the taskbar area to see what pages are currently open, every few minutes or so my cursor will hang/freeze for a split second and then go skip back to normal movement. It doesn’t matter if I am using my touchpad mouse that is on my laptop or a wireless mouse via USB. It’s becoming kind of annoying. My question - Is this a common issue?
Is it stemming from typical high CPU usage and I should "just live with it"? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide me.

So two things; when I restart my computer my saved and in-use cursor always resets back to the default cursor pack that comes with the system. I had this issue in Windows 8.1 too, but now it's getting on my nerves because I've got to go to the cursor customization panel every time I turn my computer back on for 2 reasons.
The second reason is not one I had in any previous versions. On my laptop touch pad, I always use the invisible scroll bar option on the edge, which you can turn on through the Synaptics settings, which is now found in the same panel I use to change my cursor back.
Is there any way to make these two settings default so I don't have to redo them every single time I turn my computer on?
For the cursors, I download/make individual cursors and customized them, saving the general group in a file I call 'custom cursors', I don't download entire packs. I never have to reload the cursor set I'm trying to use, I just have to pull up the panel and click 'ok' to get back out of it, and this updates me to the custom cursors that were already on there, like the system knew I wanted them, but I just sort of had to remind it to activate them. For the Synaptics issue, I never had the problem before the Windows 10 update and I use the scrolling function a LOT.

A:Cursor reset to default & scrolling goes away on restart

I'm just posting on here again because it's been so long and the issue has NOT been solved. I don't know how it works on here, but this might bring it to the top of the 'recent' list instead of buried under forgotten issues. I guess I still want to know about the cursor thing, if that's even possible, but I'm really, real tired of fixing the scroll bar going away every time I restart my computer.
I use the scroll bar on the side of my touch pad a lot. And the fact I have to update my synaptics settings every single time is getting on my nerves. I didn't have to in Windows 8, 8.1, or 7. So is there a way to fix this?
Is anyone else having this issue, even?

Hi,

I am using Fasterfox and it has developed another problem. Will open another thread to discuss repeated problems but my current issue is;

For some reason the cursor keys no longer allow me to scroll up and down pages when I start a session. I can fix the problem by opening Tools>Options>Advanced and switching on or off whatever is set for Smooth scrolling. It doesnt seem to matter what it is currently set at but as long as I change the setting then my cursors keys start scrolling again.

However, when I close Firefox and open a new session once again I need to go through the above process to enable scrolling (regardless of how its set).

I realise that this is a trivial problem but it's still a nuisance and also when my browser starts playing up then I get worried about security issues and my system integrity.

Can anyone advise why this would suddenly start playing up? And some advice on how to fix it properly would be very welcome.

Many Thanks,
Alan

A:Another Firefox problem. Cursor keys scrolling not working

Hi

First and foremost, which version of Firefox are you using? Check in Help>About -- make sure to have the version 2.0.0.2 which is the latest and has fixes many flaws, bugs and security issues.

If that doesn't work or you're already updated, close any Firefox windows you have open and then open Firefox in Safe Mode through the Start Menu. See if its better there.

Also, does this happen on any site you're on or are there a few sites in particular?
Any more extensions/themes installed?

I had to write this post on another computer due to my cursor constantly scrolling up on me.

On my X1 Carbon 5th gen (Windows 10), when changing 'Mouse Properties' => ThinkPad (tab) => TrackPoint => 'Middle Button Action' to be 'Use as middle click' (instead of 'Use for scrolling'), it works for a few minutes, but then, without me doing anything, reverts back to 'Use for scolling' automatically. I tried this solution: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/FIXED-Middle-Click-Functionality-Disabled-on-Windows-10-upgr... (namely: use regedit to change "TrackPointMode" from 00001214 to 00002214 under HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-<....numbers...>\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\UltraNavPS2). The effect was that, after a reboot, I manage to get the "Use as middle click" behaviour, but, then, again, only for a few minutes, after which it indepndently goes back "Use for scrolling". Any idea how to make the "use as middle click" behaviour stick? Thanks!

Hello. I have a dell refurbished laptop and for the most part it has been saweeeeet. But, lately there has crept upon my lovely machine two problems. The first is the scrolling cursor. First, its at the bottom and then it might scroll sideways and sometimes it will just shoot to the top corner with amazing speed. I have tried installing a regular mouse but it wouldn't work. I have shut it down several times and rebooted, but I don't want to keep doing that. No matter how patient I try to be that cursor will not stay in a sit position so I can actually click on something.
The second and newest problem (began yesterday) begins when I attempt to turn the computer on. After it does it little almost sign in before it gets to the sign in, it blanks to a dark screen and screams this little alarm sounding something like the stock market closing for the day. It doesn't quit until I do the hard shut down. The first time it did it, it just did it for a few seconds and then quit. Today, a total of 5 times.
I am lost with all of the lingo here, so please if you would like to reply, talk to me like I am 2 because with the computer knowledge I have I would have to agree that I am really 2 years old.
Thank you and have a groovy day!

A:Dell laptop issues - scrolling cursor and alarm sounds

Mouse cursor - reboot and go into the BIOS (F2) and disable the touchpad which may have failed. If you have any warranty on the machine, I would take it back to the retailer/outlet.
Screeching - this could be an overheat or fan failure warning. Can you check if the fan is running (you may not hear it over the din but can you feel air movement?).
You may be able to check the fan status in the BIOS

Hi for last few months, I am not able to work on my laptop at all , as it automatically scrolls down on any application which has a vertical scroll bar, be it a word, excel,  application or outlook or notepad or any website  I visit or gmail etc. this even happens when i connect to my office machine through citrix. I am not able to work there either because of the same problem. I have tried disabling the mouse pad as suggested in some forums but that doesnt work either.
Please suggest. should i take it to a dell service centre. Please provide me the address / contact details of the dell service centre in london.
Thanks

Hi,
my mouse cursor- an optical usb - is stuck in the middle of the screen. The mouse works, as I can still scroll on a webpage with it, and click on icons, but the cursor won't budge. I've also tried a PS-2 mouse, same issue, and have tested every USB port and all work fine so it is NOT a hardware issue that I can see. I've tried rebooting and doing a system restore, and I have the same issue in safe mode. When I go to device manager, it rcognizes the device and says everything is working properly. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, nothing. Everything else seems to be fine on my PC. Any help will be most appreciated, thank you!

A:Mouse cursor stuck in middle of screen, but mouse works

Is this a laptop or a desktop? What is the make and model# of your computer/motherboard?
Boot into Setup (Bios) go to Integrated Peripherals look for Legacy USB or USB mouse, if it is disabled, using the arrow key, Enable it. Save and Exit.
Go to the computer manufacturers support/download drivers site. type in your make and model # and download the Chipset driver (for USB Support)
Also, go to Start/Search and type CMD Right click the CMD results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Command Prompt type SFC /scannow and press enter. This will replace any missing or corrupted system files.

Hi,It appears I somehow deactivated my touchpad or something along those lines as my mouse pointer/cursor has completely disappeared? It was working fine yesterday, and I think the only thing that might have triggered this is that I accidentally pressed some keys (unsure of which ones, so I don't even know how to reverse it). I've tried restarting, as well as looked through some of the mouse/touchpad settings to no avail. If anyone can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it (I'm currently relying on my fingers and the touchscreen which isn't as convenient)

My mouse has stopped the scrolling action. It was working and now it doesn't scroll. I don't know what kind it is, but it has two buttons with a little wheel in the center. The only way I can get to view a page is to go to the side of the screen and click there. Please help.
Thanks.

A:Mouse not Scrolling

I've really become dependent on that little wheel also. If you turn the mouse over, you might find the make and model. It's possible that the wheel is broken or dirty or you need to go into control panel and adjust the mouse properties.

To increase the vertical scrolling speed I follow the instructions in the control panel and it works fine until I restart my computer when the scrolling speed returns to the slow scrolling speed. Why doesn't it maintain the accelerated speed when restart the computer. Don

My mouse is continuously scrolling right and I'm unable to use the wheel at all. I have a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000 using IntelliPoint 8.2. I've already tried reinstalling the drivers and disabling horizontal scrolling. When horizontal scrolling is disabled it'll stop moving to the right, but I'm still unable to use the wheel.

I'm not really sure what might be causing this though. It was working completely fine yesterday. The only thing I can think of is when I opened my laptop today it just shut off. It almost looked like there was a little liquid on the keyboard but as far as I know nothing was spilled on it. Could something have damaged the USB connector or something?

A:Mouse Keeps Scrolling Right

Sounds like the mouse if faulty or the batteries are low/dead.

Test the mouse on another PC to confirm operation.

I have XP and 2 mice, one with a graphics tablet and one an optical. Both drivers installed. In those programs, in the Mouse part of the Control Panel and in TweakUI for XP, I have it set to scroll 10 lines. Whenever I restart my computer, they stay the same except for TweakUI which resets it to 1 line. I don't know how to make TweakUI stay set at 10 - not exactly a problem to unsettle the world, I know, but annoying . Is there a way to get around this or a similar program to Tweak I could use. I do like its functions. Many thanks.

I'm having mouse scrolling prolems in Internet Explorer. When trying to scroll down from the right side of the window, (slider bar) it always scrolls about a page and a half at a time. I've tried differant mice like Logitech wheel and Microsolft wheel, and differant settings in control panel. Still does the same thing. I've scanned for spyware and virus. It used to do 1 page at a time. Any ideas?

thanks, steve
