X1 Yoga 1st gen EM7455 cellular not working abroad

Q: X1 Yoga 1st gen EM7455 cellular not working abroad

Hi, as per topic title, the WWAN is not working outside my country. I have a local (national) operator's SIM card and all is ok while using cellular in my country (Slovenia). If I go abroad, I get "NO SERVICE". Now, the SIM card is definitely ok, works in other laptops etc. Just not in my X1 yoga. Turning ROAMING on or off in Windows 10 /x64 does not make any change. As if the EM7455 is locked for roaming or what? Any idea what I can do before I take the laptop back for warranty claim?ThanksBostjan

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I ordered two idential ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2nd Generation laptops. Both were equipped with the Integrated Mobile Broadband (EM7455 LTE-A) component. However, only one of the laptops has a "Cellular" option in the Network & Settings area and operates fine with a SIM card. The other device does not show a Cellular option, nor does it allow a connection to a SIM card. I've completed the following steps: * Updated all Lenovo drivers* Installed the latest EM7455 LTE-A drivers* Called Lenovo Support (they suggested a factory reset thinking it could have been a glitch with Windows 10)* Factory reset the entire laptop with a fresh version of Windows 10* Reinstalled all required Lenovo drivers* Installed fresh version of EM7455 LTE-A drivers I still do not have a Cellular option, nor do I see the EM7455 LTE-A driver in my Network Adapters in the Device Manager. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

A:X1 Yoga 2nd Gen SIM card/Cellular not working

Hi amartin-bdc!

Welcome to the Community Forums!

Some X1 Yoga 2nd models don't have LTE capability. Do both have the same MTM (e.g. 20JD000RUS)? You can also determine the built in parts by going to Lenovo Parts Lookup page to verify if the other one has LTE/WWAN or not. Update us.

Has anybody else seen this or can you recreate the problem? The Sierra Wireless EM7455 LTE card keeps crashing the PC.  But exactly as follows..... You are connected to the internet using the EM7455.  You sleep the PC while connected.  You wake the PC.  EM7455 cannot connect again.  EM7455 is also lost from Device Manager.  A scan for new hardware just hangs and freezes the Device Manager window.  The only option is to restart the PC.  BUT...if you sleep or hibernate at this point (instead of restart) the PC crashes with BSOD (ntoskrnl.exe error).  This happens every time, without exception.  All the drivers are the latest, currently 7.44.4709.0102.  Firmware is 2.24.03.  I tried to upgrade to 2.24.05 from Sierra Wireless but it keeps reverting to 2.24.03 (must be a Lenovo OEM things that prevents the update).  Any ideas?  (apart from disconnecting before sleep!) Thanks

Hi, I'm running out of ideas... I cleared cache everywhere I could think of, even uninstalled firefox entirely and reinstalled. Still nothing.

I spent 6 months in Turkey, came back to Canada a month ago and still I get the 'site block' from the Turkish government. In both Firefox (my usual browser) and IE.

Really, you don't know how many times you might be using YouTube per day until you lose it completely!

I'm not even sure this is the right place to post, I'm wondering if it might be a host files thing or the fact I installed XP SP3 while I was there.

Any ideas? Anyone?

Hi Lenovo Community, I'm having a problem with the cellular in Windows 10 on a Lenovo X380 Yoga tablet. It was purchased from Rogers in Canada. I believe it has been activated and should be ready to use. Rogers recommends an app to activate and get it working (I believe it is MyRogersAccount), but it is not available. We have verified there is a WWAN card installed and the SIM card was inserted properly. The cellular shows as turned off and then when you press the Windows 10 tile to turn on the cellular, it tries to turn on, then turns off in about a second. So we don't know what to do to get the Cellular to turn ON. Not sure if we need to contact Rogers with regards to this matter or if it's a problem with the tablet. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance,Jay Smith

I recently installed an EM7455 LTE modem (FRU 00JT542) and antenna kit (FRU 01AW958) in my X1 Yoga running Windows 10 Pro.Drivers installed fine and I have nothing unidentified in Device Manager, and "Cellular" exists in the networking panel (when you click on the network icon in the taskbar). However, none of my SIM cards are being detected by the system. I've tried T-Mobile and Verizon SIM cards (both verified working in other devices) to no avail -- Windows keeps telling me to insert a SIM.I spent all afternoon on the phone with half a dozen Lenovo support reps (and have a ticket open with them) but we haven't made any headway yet. Here are some things we tried:Different Windows 10 installations (the original image on the supplied SSD vs. the one I created and have been using on my 950 Pro): no effectThe Windows 7 Mobile Broadband Activation tool: errorVarious Gobi 5000 Drivers: no effectUpdating UEFI: no effectWindows Troubleshooting: uselessI'm beginning to think it may be a hardware issue with the SIM slot but the reps haven't been willing to admit as much. In addition, I only have the depot warranty which I've heard atrocious things about, so I'd like to avoid that. I was also informed that they don't allow self-replacement of system boards so worst case I'll have to shell out for an onsite warranty.I'll take any suggestions -- even if they're shots in the dark!

What size of card does the x1 yoga 3rd gen cellular sim slot, connected to internal fibocom l850-gl wwan card, use?   Is it micro sim or nano sim size and how does one acquire the imei of the internal fibocom l850-gl wwan card?  If my current cell phone has a matching sim card size should i expect that i can just pull it and insert into x1 yoga 3rd gen cellular sim slot and enable test of the machine + windows 10 cellular data connectivity option?  Alternatively does it take a call to my at&t cell plan provider to have the sim configuration updated on their end to match the imei of the fibocom l850-gl wwan card?

We have a number of X1 Yoga 2nd Gen (20JG) w/ EM7455 LTE cards. We have updated all drivers on some machines but we continue to have issues w/ the card at time dropping connectivity to LTE and it not returning until a reboot or a disable/enable of the LTE card. When the connectivity hangs you are unable to ping any IP addresses. This occurs randomly but is seen within an hour of waking up from a sleep.  Lastest driver as of July 29, 2019 has helped some but not fixed the problem. We have tested newer firmware version for Verizon but in those cases when the connectivity issues happen the entire card resets itself losing connectivity anyway. We have tested on Windows 10 1803 and 1903 w/ similar results. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Everyone, My laptop is a 3rd Gen X1-Yoga, and it has Fibocom L850-GL Wireless WAN (WWAN) when I purchased it.  I recently performed updates using the Lenovo System Update, whereby, the latest version of the BIOS was installed: UEFI: 1.21 / ECP: 1.08 - Dated 25/Jun/2018 I noticed that my WWAN is no longer working. I decided to perform some troubleshooting and came to the following observation: 1. Shut down the laptop, disabled in the build-in battery via BIOS, and removed the back cover, and removed the WWAN card from its slot (carefully removing the MAIN and AUX antenna cables as well) - After completing this, and turning the laptop back on and going to BIOS:  I noted under the BIOS's I/O Devices Option - WWAN option appeared (I was able to either DISABLE or ENABLE it). 2.Repeating Step #1 as per above, I proceeded to re-install the WWAN card on to its slot (carefully re-attaching the MAIN and AUX antenna cables as well) - After completing this, I noted under the BIOS's I/O Devices Option - WWAN option disappeared - hence BIOS is not detecting the Fibocom L850-GL Wireless WAN Card (wierd). 3.Because of the above situation, Windows 10 (Professional, x64, v1803 - Spring Creators Update) does not give the standard Cellular Network Connections that you would expect when attempting to connecting to cellular data. 4. I decided to open a Service Request with Lenovo and advised on the ticket that ... Read more

I have been experimenting with the LTE cellular data features of the Lenovo X1 Yoga on windows 10.  Built into Windows 10 is the ability to set a data cap but this only acts as a notifier.  So once the cap is hit you are notified you hit the cap but cellular data continues to be used.  This has the potential to create some problems in our enterprise environment and I was wondering if Lenovo had there own solution for tracking and suspending cellular data once the cap has been hit. Thank you in advance for any information you can give me.

Hi I resently got a Thinkpad x1 yoga gen 2Type 20JE-S1C600S/N R9-0NGFRQ 17/05 As far as I know there should be a Sierra Wireless EM7455 modem in the machine, but i can't get windows to detect it. I doesn't show up in device manager, or in the network setting of windows. It is running Windows 10 Home. 64bit. In bios I can enable or disable WWAN (under security > IO ..), not sure if that means there is a modem, or just a setting thats always there in the bios. There is a slot in the back of the machine for a SIM card, but not sure if that means there is a moden in the machine, or the slot is always there.  I Tried reinstalling the machine, but didn't help.I've made sure there is no pending updates for the machine.   1. Can you guys help confirm if there is a modem in the machine. (If not, then the seller lied to me)2. If there is, how do I get it working ? I did put a SIM card in the SIM slot in the back of the macine. I'm pretty sure it is currectly inserted. There is only one direction where I hear a small click, and the card stays in place.  Thanks Simon

After hibernating my Thinkpad Yoga 260 in most cases the cellular network fails to connect and continously displays the status "Disconnected". I have enabled the option "Let Windows manage this connection". In this condition when I disable "Let Windows manage this connection" and hit the "Connect" button I get the message "Can't connect to this network to this network.  Enter an APN and try again.". I've entered a new APN according to instructions of my mobile network provider but the behavior did not change.  When I reboot my notebook the cellular network connects correctly. This behaviour is new since abut two weeks after Windows has updated to the fall creators version. Before that it was working perfectly.  Of course I've run Windows and Lenovo updates.Additionally I've installed the latest version  of "Sierra Wireless EM7455 Software for Windows 10 (64-bit)" 7.47.4743.0105. In Device Manger this also updated the version of "Sierra Wireless EM7455 Qualcomm Snapdragon X7 LTE-A" to 10.0.16299.192. I would appreciate very much if somebody has an idea how to solve this issue. Many thanks!

Perhaps they do not permit their online videos to be viewed outside the USA. It's the same for ABC, CBS, Hulu, NBC, etc.

They use your IP address to determine that you are outside of the country.

I have Vista on Compaq Presario 500, Windows mail; provider Orange. I usually like to be in email contact when I am abroad. I have just returned from two weeks in Madeira. While I was away I had problems with my email, which I did not have before. I use two email numbers: one is a googlemail number and the other is my original freeserve number. I had no problem connecting with the free wifi where I stayed, but when I tried to read my emails, I was presented with the messge headed, 'Log on to pop.googlemail.com. Verify that both user name and password are correct for your mail server'. A box for User name and password are supplied. I do not know what username or password are required, and there is no provision for when these things are forgotten. I have tried my webmail username and password which gives me access to my webmail, but that is not accepted. I just do not know what they want. I am not very good on email technology, especially the terminology. Can anyone help? Allan.

Not sure if gmail is as sensitive to location changes - I know outlook.com is and a slight change in location can block the service until you enter a code

I'm in the UK and will be on holiday in the USA in the summer.

If I buy a mini laptop over there and bring it back, can I get a power cable with a UK plug and use that instead of the US one? Or should I just use an adaptor?

Thanks.

A:Buying A Laptop Abroad

Many laptop adapters use a detachable power cord that goes between the adapter and wall outlet. Depending on the AC cord socket used on the, it may be easy or a bit difficult to find a suitable cord.

In any case, you would need to make sure that the AC adapter you purchase in the USA will work with the 230 Volt 50 Hz mains in the UK as well as the typical 120 volt 60 Hz mains in the USA.

Aside from power, you should make sure that the warranty on the laptop is not limited to only cover computers sold and used in the USA.

If the laptop has a TV video output, make sure it will support both the north American NTSC standard and European PAL standard.

Hello all.

I'm new here and as far as I can tell from other people's messages, I think I must be the most technically inept person here!

I want to use my laptop abroad and be able to connect to the Internet. My laptop, two months old, is wi-fi enabled. I bought an ipass account with Worldwide Dialup. I cannot seem to get it to work though.

If it makes any difference, I live in London, UK and I want to use the Internet in various parts of Spain. It may be that I haven't set it up the ipass software correctly. The thing is, I don't know enough about it to know if I've done it all correctly or not.

Any help would be very gratefully received. In words of one syllable please. I know I'm missing something with this ipass system but I really don't know what it is.

Thanks

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on the following problem:
My Sister is currently studying in Austria for a year as part of her college course. Her laptop can't get access to the network in her own apartment and she tried accessing a wireless network in another apartment yesterday but to no avail. One of her colleagues suggested that it had something to do with WEP on her laptop. Has this not do with encryption for Wireless networks. Has anyone any suggestions that I can talk her through. I've tried disabling Zone Alarm but that made no difference. I've listed some of the configuration for her laptop below.

A:Internet Connection Abroad

Has she ever connected wirelessly with this laptop? If so, where?

When she scans for wireless networks does she see the apartment signal? If so does it say the signal is encrypted and what happens when she tries to connect?

Hello everybody. I am going on holiday soon from the UK to the West Indies. I am currently connecting to a surf unlimited service provided by a company called Blueyonder. I need to take my laptop with me, and will need to connect to the internet while abroad. The only help I got from the customer service was to add 2 commas before the phone number in the dial up connection but I they have tried to put me off and tell me that I will have alots of problems and may even find that I will not connect to the internet. I have alos read somewhere that I should disable on the Laptop the "wait for dial tone".
I would be grateful for any advice on to how successfully set up a dial up connection. Thank you all in advance.
Sorry for the long post.

A:Connect to the internet from Abroad

If I understand you correctly, you want to connect to your UK account from the West Indies by dialling the uK number, is that right? It will cost a bit in long distance charges, but you do it by creating a New Location. Go to Control Panel and double-click the Modems icon. This opens Modem Properties, and at the bottom of the General Tab, click on Dialing Properties. On the My Locations Tab, click New, call it West Indies, select which Country you are in. fill out any other details you need to. Now when you connect to a phone line, make sure when the Dialling box appears, you select the new location.

Your other option is to search for a free ISP in the local area, or purchase a subscription to an ISP that provides world wide roaming, with local numbers in the countries you are visiting.
