Automatic copy files to server

Q: Automatic copy files to server

I am attempting to place a backup of my documents and outlook files to my domain server. I do this every Friday.

Everything was fine in Windows XP, we would just copy the documents folder and overwrite the one on the server. This has become a problem in windows 7.

When attempting to copy, I get access denied, I have to constantly choose to overwrite files, or it just doesn't work at all.

Is there a better method to drop my files on the server? I want access to them without having to use a utility.

Preferred Solution: Automatic copy files to server

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to the windows 7 forums Jtoney

One way that I do that is to use the xcopy with the /m command, which will copy and replace each of the changed and new files on your target directory.

xcopy "d:\documents\*.*" "O:\toshiv\mydocs" /s/m/y/c/h/r
xcopy "d:\xfer\*.*" "O:\toshiv\downloads" /s/m/y/c/h/r

this copies all of the files that either have changed or new from my d drive directories to my servers O: drive in those directories. I created a batch file and then created a shortcut to it and then set the shortcut to run as administrator.

It works for me.

Good day to all,

This may or may not be possible, but let me try and explain. I was wondering if it were possible for a mirrored copy of a file to exist. Meaning every time I modified the file or file (s), its corresponding mirrored copy would change too.

I've been saving a lot of things to my Google Drive recently. I was wondering if it were possible for these files to have a mirrored copy saved to another location on my Hard Drive as well.

New files are being added to the Google Drive on a daily basis, so I doubt there would be a way to set this mirror to new files automatically. And this of course, is assuming that this is possible at all. Let me know if you would like me to elaborate or if this can or can't be done at your convenience.

Thanks,

Speck

A:Automatic mirror or copy of files for backup purposes

If you require

update foo.txt => mirror:foo.txt
for each and every alteration of foo.txt in real time, then basically you're asking for a RAID-1x implementation.

If you can tolerate a nightly sync of *modified files*, then you might look at

allway sync.
You map a local directory onto a remote directory and run the sync one-way to the remote.

Now on a schedule (or manual invocation) only the mods in the local migrate onto the remote.

Frankly, this is my backup strategy for my laptop.

I have a Windows XP user who can open PDF files on our secondary file server (e.g. \\serverB\shares\marketing\file.pdf) but not from the main server (\\serverA\shares\marketing\file.pdf). Same with copying PDF files. He can
copy them to his desktop. from server B but not from server A. Server A is the one assigned to him because server B is being pre-seeded for DFS and is in a different office anyway.

The problem is only with PDF files. He can open and copy any other files. And it's only on his Windows XP machine. His Windows 7 machine works just fine (he can copy and open PDF files from server A).

The two servers (Windows 2016) are set up identically as far as NTFS permissions. The only difference is that server A is set up in DFS while server B is being pre-seeded before being added to DFS.

DFS namespace type is: domain (Windows Server 2008 mode).

The XP machine had no problem under server A when the DFS namespace type was Server 2000 mode, but I'm not sure that would cause the problem.

I've installed the NT schedule utility from the NT resource kit on a local database web server to automate daily file copying tasks. I can copy files from folder to folder on the local machine using "AT <time> copy d:\foldername\*.* d:\newfoldername\", but I cannot copy to the drive mapped to an Intranetware server. I've configured the Schedule service to start with a username and password that has sufficient rights on both machines, and if I manually copy files either in Explorer or from the command prompt to the Intranetware server everything works fine.

My new Windows 7 computer came with Volume Shadow Copy set to Manual Startup. This is seen when running the Services utility. When would one want Manual versus Automatic Startup?

The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume \Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy1. Event ID 55

Hello all-

I am looking for a small piece that will do the following:

1. Monitor folder A
2. Copy any new folders or files to Folder B
3. Run at start-up and at all times
4. Preferably real-time or at least once an hour.
5. Preferably only make the copy once, even the file is deleted from folder B.

It seemed simple, but I am having trouble funding something simple that does this. I tried sync toy, but it needs to be scheduled and it will continually copy the same file if it is already deleted from folder A.

Thank you in advanced!

A:Suggestions for free automatic folder monitor and file copy app

I use a program called Mirror Folder that will this. I use it to backup specific folders to a 2nd hard disk and a few folders to a location on a 2nd computer over the network.

It costs $39.

Microsoft also has the free SyncToy which may do what you want as well.

Oops, sorry, see you already tried that.

You could also do this with a scheduled batch file using xcopy or robocopy.

Hi:

I have a DSL connection to the Internet over a home LAN. We are using a Pentium III
700 Mhz, 128 mb as a WIN 98 SE server for 3 other machines. After failing miserably at attempts to get ICS to work, we bought and installed All_Aboard from InternetShare. My question is, how to get the server machine to logon the Internet automatically upon booting into Windows. Having to physically go to the server/computer everytime it's turned on and manually access the net is a real pain.

Any tips along these lines will be appreciated. Thanks.

Opening the Chrome browser this am, I went to my home page no problem. Then I attempted to go to one of my news pages, cbc.ca/ and it sends me to a page, Banned server and redirects me to mediaplex.com. I used IE and was able to access the cbc.ca/ site. What can I do to fix the issue in Chrome?
Additional info. I went on Chrome using the incognito window, and I was able to log into the cbc.ca/ page.

Problem partly solved. I discovered that the redirect was downloaded when certain sites were visited. By clearing the browsing history in Chrome, the redirect disappeared. However, what would be a solution to prevent the download? The infected site appears to be a contest site that was visited by a family member. That site can be avoided, but what about blocking mediaplex in other sites?

Hi all,
As you may remember i previously asked this forum how to set up a backup server in my home so i can centrally store backups used to restore the computers in case of an emergency. Well i have in the end set up a NAS storage device on my linksys router and all is well. Well recently i decided to make improvements to the network by password protecting user folders and assigning specific user accounts to specific user folders. So far the partial re designing of my server directories is going well although i have one simple question to ask. How do i get the computers to automatically log into the NAS account without having to prompt the user to log on? I have looked into vista and when acessing the folder through network>mybookworld (the name of my NAS) it has a remember my password option for logon but never seems to truely remember it as it will always ask whenever i log off/onto the windows workstation. Right now for my backup batches to have them function properly i added a line that launches an explorer window that goes into the backup directory (which is mapped as a network drive in windows). This in turn, forces the system to prompt the user to log into the system and once done and the explorer window is closed the backup resumes normally. Now, is there any way to basically have windows remember the logon credentials and log onto the server automatically as soon as the user logs onto windows? Thanks for all help in advance.

Hello,

First time on this forum, so I hope I chose the right category to post my problem. I just got a new laptop, and it has Vista Home Premium.

My problem.. I use a program/application called "DVArchive" (aka: DVA) for archiving my tv shows on my PC (from my ReplayTV). This application worked just fine on XP, but of course, Vista is giving me all kinds of crap.

The application IS working.. It can see my ReplayTV unit, I can access my archived shows, etc. However, Vista is giving me error messages, which are interfering with it and making it crash.

The problem has to do specifically with the applications configuration (.XML) files. I'm pretty tech saavy, but I'm not a computer expert, so I'll just cut and paste the actual error messages below. The listed pathways are where DVArchive stores it's files...

I've been using Teracopy since Win7 and when it encounters file conflicts, it gives you the option to overwrite older files automatically or with the press of a button. The Win 8 copy dialog allows you to compare files and skip those with the same date and size. There is copy and replace option but I do not see one to replace if file is newer or skip if file is older
1) Is there an option similar to the Overwrite older or do you just have to compare files individually?
2) When it says same "date" does it just mean the day or is the time accounted for as well for example if I had a file that was updated a few hours after the original, but on the same day, would it recognize that as a difference?

PS: Has anyone done a side-by-side comparison of Win 8 copy vs Teracopy?

A:Copy Files Conflict: Overwrite Older Files ala Teracopy

In Teracopy, when it detects one or more dupe files that are in the destination, a dialogue box will pop up giving you a choice to either copy over or rename and for a single instance or multiple instances. I usually tell it to "Skip All". It checks the files for Names and Sizes, and if a file is exactly the same in name and size and date, usually Teracopy skips it by default. This is because you can resume a huge copy process started in Teracopy if it gets interrupted: You can resume such a copy process by just dragging the whole folder over the half-copied destination, then Teracopy checks all the files and blanks out the ones that are already copied.

In the case of what you showed up in your pic, I think Teracopy may have skipped that file by default, only copying the ones that are not already there. But if it gives you a dialog box, just choose "Skip All". I'll have to check it's behaviour.

Teracopy is better for copying a folder with a bunch of sub folders from one drive to another. I use it to copy a Data Set that's about 500 GB in size: Working with a file set of that size, Teracopy is the best way to do it. If you want to not use Teracopy for local copying of a few files, right click on the folder to be copied and drag it over to the destination. then release the mouse and in the selection popup, choose "Copy" and not Teracopy. There will also be a "Move" and Teramove selection as well.

By default, Teracopy takes over the re... Read more

Greetings all.

One of my clients has a server running Windows 2003 Small Business Server with Exchange Server 2003 on it. They have had some good will come their way in the form of a server that has the exact same specs as the one they have now, which, is pretty good for a small to midsize company (approx 25 users across 6 sites). What they would like to do is increase their fault tolerance by using the second server as a copy of the first one preferably including data and possibly synchronizing using DSL at 3 Mbps through a VPN. Hello! Thanks for looking into this thread.

To make a long story short, I have a new HDD with not much on it, and I have an old HDD with all my other stuff on it. :)

Some of that stuff is located in the 'Temporary Internet Files' folder. Game saves on online gaming sites such as Armorgames.com etc.

It allowed me to copy from the 'Temporary Internet Files' folder onto a USB easily and without trouble. Whereas when I put my USB on the other computer, and try to copy them onto the Temp Internet Files folder of my new HDD, it just does not give me the option to.

I've looked into this a bit, and have discovered that there is no physical folder. I've gone to where I am supposed to, the Document Settings -> Local Settings ect. and it's not there. I guess that's the technical reason why it won't let me copy files to there, because there is no physical folder.

What I am asking is: Is there a way to copy files 'TO' the 'Temporary Internet Files' folder?

I emphasise the 'TO' as I've only seen information on google in regards to copying files 'FROM' the 'Temporary Internet Files' folder.

I hope you folks can help me out on this one. :)

Cheers,

ooeJack

Hello

It is not that easy as IE stores TEMP file is multiple locations.

They could be stored in user temp files or in SYS files

I have 300 mp3 files on my computer. Total size of the directory is 6 Gig worth of mp3's. Currently I have to drag and drop the mp3 files over to Windows Media Player to get the mp3's to play. I want to copy or burn half of the mp3's to a dvd. I want the dvd to start playing or at least to bring up some kind of menu when the dvd is inserted into a player. How do I burn the mp3 files to a dvd so the mp3 files will start playing from a dvd automatically?

A:How Can I Copy MP3 Files To A DVD So The Files Starting Playing Automatically

What kind of MP3 takes up 20Mb?
An MP3 DVD should Auto Play without any additional steps-check your auto play options. (Play using WMP).
Is this folder monitored by WMP? There should be no reason to drag an drop.

Hi

My problem is that I have a pc running XP and a laptop running Vista. When I check my e-mails on the laptop they are downloaded to the laptop and similar with the PC, so I end up with some e-mails on one machine and some on the other.

My e-mail clients are Windows Mail & Outlook Express, it doesn't seem possible to get either programme to save to a network drive, they must be local drives.

I have a partial solution by setting up my accounts on my laptop to leave a copy on the server so when I check my mail from the laptop the message is still there and downloaded again to the PC, messy but at least I have a copy of all e-mails in one place, but this doesn't work with my gmail account once downloaded they are moved from googles inbox to all mail despite the setting.

Presumably this could be solved with another e-mail client, does anyone know of one that would handle this situation better?

Regards Eric

A:Leave a copy of message on server

I have gmail and even when I download my messages with an email client as long as I choose "leave messages on server" then gmail retains them. I can always access them via Gmail(web interface).

I am planning some disaster recovery for a Windows 2000 Server heaven forbid something should ever go terribly wrong.

What is the best method to back up server settings/configuration to migrate to a new server or just to restore in the future to current server? Is it good to "ghost" an image of the currently good system state to use in case of just a drive failure?

I guess sort of along the lines of the first question but how would you backup just the AD?

I am thinking of building a new server and dread the thought of having to setup all shares, OU's, users, permissions, DHCP, etc. on the new server. So I would like to be able to just reinstall Win2000 Server and then restore the configuration from the old. Is this possible?

A:How to copy/backup server settings

If you have the the latest version of Ghost it will work, but generally they become out of date very quickly because most people don't have the time to keep it updated. I use it myself but I also use Windows Backup and run it daily. I restore using Ghost and add in the latest updates using the Recovery from Backup. You can backup only the system files, which include AD with Backup.

Good luck and experiment so you are experienced if the restore is needed.

Kindly also let me know the settings on outlook 2003

Thanks

A:Solved: How to copy, not cut, emails from server to inbox

For Outlook 2003, Click tools/accounts,view or change existing accounts.
Choose the account, and click Change.
Click More settings, then the advanced tab, and you will see the option there.
I had the Office 2007 beta, but removed it. If i remember correctly, the setting is found in the same place

Hello,
I'm have an issuing when copying a file from a Windows 10 workstation to a FQDN Windows server 2003 resource.
The environment is as follows;

SERVER
Windows 2003 SP2 Server (x86) (Domain Controller)
FQDN = server1.company.local
IP Address = 192.168.10.10
NETBIOS NAME = server1
CLIENT
Windows 10 Pro workstation (x64)
The issue manifests in both a command line and windows file explorer environment.
Here is a command line example using robocopy (the issue also happens with copy/xcopy)
TEST1 (NETBIOS) robocopy c:\test \\server1\data\temp file.dat = file copies OK
TEST2 (IP ADRESS) robocopy c:\test \\192.168.10.10\data\temp file.dat = file copies OK
TEST3 (FQDN) robocopy c:\test \\server1.company.local\data\temp file.dat = file copy is very slow / unsuccessful
server1.company.local resolves to the correct ip of 192.168.10.10
This issue only manifests on the two Windows 10 systems we have in the business. We have 70+ WIndows 7 systems that do not present the issue.
The issue temporarily resolves when the effect Windows10 system is rebooted but the issue re-manifests hours/days later.

Thanks in advance . . .

I have just setup a Win2k3 SBS server with about 15 clients. I setup all the profiles (Outlook, My Docs Redirection, etc) and thought that the profiles had saved. When the company went to use them, no one was setup. I went into the server and all the user folders were empty except a few. I logged in and setup the profiles again thinking it was a fluke. Now all the user folders have info in them. they have been complaining about their Outlook not being setup when they use another machine... I thought they just didn't know what they were doing... But now I just set up 3 new users and set them for roaming profiles. I have logged in/out about 10 times each and nothing is showing up in the profiles. I have all the info right as far as the active directory user profile path and permissions. I have set this up multiple times before.

I am just wondering if there is some quirky software or something that is causing the problem. These are all new Dell Optiplex 320's with a Poweredge 1900 server. The only difference in this network than the others that have been setup is that the workstations have Office 2007 on them and the Dell's now come with a built-in ATI card instead of Intel.

I have read an article that an old NVIDIA driver caused this problem in the past.. Anyone had this problem with Dell's or ATI cards?

Thanks

Hello

I am trying to set up my pc so that it can connect to a wireless network, and logon to a VPN before I enter windows so that I can download the server copy of my roaming profile.

Currently, I when I logon, I get a message about not being able to download my roaming profile and that it will log me on using my local profile instead.
I then connect to the VPN using a connection I have created in Network Connections, but obviously this is no good since I am on my local profile

I sense that the way to get round this problem is to check the "Login using a dial up connection" box. But when I do this, no connections shows up and the "New" button is greyed out.

Can anyone help?

I usually can find a fix to most problems but this one has got me stumped.I use OE on my three computers.
This used to not happen but now when I turn on either one a copy of messages has been left on the server despite
the fact that I don't have that option checked and of course that results in many messages downloaded that I have no further use for.
Has anyone else came across this behavior?

Windows 8.1 Mail app push email notification for Outlook account, Calendar and People automatic synchronization stopped working yesterday (it was working for one year). I haven't changed anything. Note it stopped working
on two different devices at the same time. The only way to get new email messages or sync Calendar/People is manual synchronization by the Sync button now. No error messages in Event log, I also tried to reinstall all three apps, no change.

I believe it is a server issue because TcpView now reports connection to
dub407-m.hotmail.com server on both devices affected while it was something like
snt000-m.hotmail.com (I don't remember the number exactly) before when it had worked. It seems to be my Microsoft account specific issue because notifications/synchronization on other Microsoft account where Mail, Calendar and People apps are
connected to col403-m.hotmail.com server still works.
Short summary:

My MS account until 20 Jan 2016 - connection to snt000-m.hotmail.com - notifications/synchronization workedMy MS account from 21 Jan 2016 - connection to dub407-m.hotmail.com - notifications/synchronization does not workOther MS account - connection to col403-m.hotmail.com - notifications/synchronization still work

I don't know where to report it and I also don't want to create a new Microsoft account to "fix" that hoping it won't be redirected to the dub407-m server node again.

Thanks for any help.
