I can't adjust my Microphone Volume?

Q: I can't adjust my Microphone Volume?

I just reformatted to XP, and I go and plug in my mic (which has no drivers to install), it works fine, but I can barely hear myself in it. So, I go to Sounds, try to turn it up, but windows says to find hardware since the microphone is corrupted. I go to the site, no drivers. Do Windows Driver search, nothing.

Any help?

Preferred Solution: I can't adjust my Microphone Volume?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

So I installed some new Windows updates today (whatever was available via Windows Update). I restarted my computer to enable the updates. When it came back on, my task bar was white for some reason. I solved that problem using the first solution I found here: [SOLVED] Taskbar is white

Well I didn't change my volume before doing that, so I don't know if it worked before I followed that solution. I do know that after following that solution, my volume meter no longer shows up when I change the volume via the keys for it on my keyboard. This is pretty annoying because it was convenient to always see my audio level when I adjusted the volume.

I am on a HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx with beats audio, running Windows 7 64-bit. When I changed my volume, the beats audio logo with a volume meter under it would pop up, but it no longer shows up. I haven't noticed any change in the quality of my sound, and I can still actually adjust the volume level. The problem is the volume meter no longer displays to show me the volume level.

If anyone has any clue as to why this happened, that would be great!

A:Volume meter no longer displays when I adjust volume level

Try rolling back any keyboard driver updates, or go to the keyboard manufacturers website and download most up to date driver(s) from there.

I've seen plenty of these threads but none of them are eMachines computers. I have an eMachines E525-2200 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit Service Pack 1.

Is there any way to make my computer stop adjusting my mic levels for me? Any program that I use to communicate via microphone has this issue. I have removed the option to allow applications to take control. I use skype and the google chat phone service most. I turned off the auto adjust option within skype. I use a cheap USB headset, and it didn't have any software that came with it. I am pretty convinced Windows 7 is a control freak and won't let me decide my mic volume at this point. Is there anything I can do?

(Windows XP Home) When I attempt to adjust the volume using the slider on the Volume tab of the Sounds and Audio Devices section of the control panel, the volume gets louder as I drag the slider over, and then (without even releasing the mouse button), the volume automatically decreases as the slider moves to it's lowest position. It's as if the volume is pegged "low" elsewhere in the system, and the slider must reflect that value despite my trying to adjust it. TIA for any assistance.

I don't know how it happened, but recently, the sound has gotten all screwed up. It seems to be set to an unbearably low volume at maximum. I can hear the asterisk system sound, but the others must be too quiet to hear. I can hear my MP3s and some other sound files, but they are so soft I can't hear them well at all. even when WinAmp is set to 100% volume. Turning the knob on my speakers has no effect at all.

I can hear sounds online (such as the Crazy Frog movie: http://dd0s.org/~wooolf/crazyfrog/ ), but the volume is rather quiet.

Using the Volume Control, I find that nothing is muted, and everything is at maximum. I can lower the volume to make it even quieter, but I can't make it louder (since it's at maximum).

I am currently using NVIDIA nForce drivers (the most recent ones)...in fact, I just installed these new ones, hoping it would fix my problem, to no avail.

I use WinXP Home, SP1.

Hi There,

I've noticed that I'm unable to open my Volume Control (the icon that is usually in the task bar).

So I decided to go to Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> Entertainment and it's not there either... in fact there's NOTHING there.

How can I get this back?

Thanks,

A:Can't adjust volume etc

you may need to reinstall your sound card drivers
go to control panel, then Sounds and Audio devices
click on the Audio tab
and under Sound Playback, see if there's anything listed there
if not, chances are you need to reinstall those drivers

Hey guys,

I posted this earlier in the Multimedia thread but was told to post it here.

I have been having trouble with my sound this past week. Is stays at 100%. I try to slide my volume, but it quickly goes back to 100%. I don't know what the problem is. I have ran dxdiag and it says there are no problems found. My speakers are Conexant High Definition SmartAudio. I have tried pretty much everything: googling it, but no answers there.

I do believe my roommate has something to do with it. He went to high school for technology, and after a dispute over my music being too loud he said he would start to control my volume. Some time during the week, I had found my computer had mysteriously restarted. So this has led me to believe that he has installed a program, which allows him to control my volume. I want to make sure he's doing this, so he can face the consequences. I just need your help. Is there something installed in my computer? What can I do to get rid of it?

There's also another strange thing that occurred. After posting this in the Multimedia thread, my volume somehow became adjustable again. Weird. I now have a feeling he can see what I do on my computer, and realized I posted this? I am so confused. I just would like answers.

Thanks so much beforehand. My operating system is Windows Vista and I have an HP Notebook PC, if that helps.

Have you given it a try by plunning headphones into the jack? Try to bypass all external amplification, it may be your speakers.

This may be an HP problem. I'm not sure. When I open the speaker settings, the display shows the volume set at 100%, yet, I can barely hear the soundtrack of a DVD I am watching just inches away. I have tried using the sliding volume at the top of the keyboard as well as the volume control in the media player, which will only increase volume to 50% in Windows Media Player. Still too low for me. I can lower (from 50%) or mute the volume- just not increase it. Has anyone else had this problem? I would love to know how to fix this. Thanks!

Did you right-click on the audio settings. The master volume may be maxed but all the other volumes lowered (this has happened to me before). If that's not the case, use the device manager to uninstall the speakers and then reboot (the speaker should reinstall)

A:No volume adjust for headphone

Hi Photosky,
After going through the above mentioned thread’s link and also after you mentioned that you have reinstalled the drivers, lets perform another step here and I hope this helps.

Plug your headphone jack in the audio in port.
Right Click on the volume speaker icon on the bottom right hand side on the desktop..
Select Playback devices
Then right click on your headphone icon
Select properties
Go to the levels tab and set the volume as per your wish.
Click Apply / Ok

Now unplug the headphone and plug it back in and check if this helps. Awaiting for your response.

So I recently moved my microphone/headset plugs to the rear jacks of my computer, the reason I did this was because when plugged in to the front jacks, my microphone had a white noise I couldn't get rid of, the rear jacks doesn't have this issue, but my mic volume is quiet

I think it might be a driver issue? I know its not my mic because when plugged in the front, people can hear my voice fine but there's just static noise too, and it's sort of loud

A:Microphone Volume is quiet, even at maximum volume

More PC info is needed. Including what sound and sound driver you have.

The front panel jacks are just an extension of the sound jacks. Usually if there is problem, the front do not work correctly but the read does. Are you plugging the mic into the correct Pink jack? If it were plugged into the wrong jack that can happen.

I'm not following you entirely, but have you tried (R) clicking on the "mute box" selection when it appears? Does the speaker icon in the task bar have a red "X" on it? Have you gone to "system" in the control panel...than selected 'hardware' to get a look at 'device manager' and what see what it's saying? On your sound mixer click on everything that has a red "x" on it. I'm not meaning to oversimplify, but I think you will discover an easy way out of this problem once you know how to handle the Window mixer console.

Can not access sndvol.exe to create a shortcut to allow keyboard to control volume.

I am using a Standard PS2 wired keyboard for my HP Elite 8000 system. Details in my signature.

I discovered the following and wish to implement with my basic keyboard:

1) click your start menu. Type ?sndvol? in the search box at the bottom
2) Right-click-drag the sndvol program icon to your desktop and select the ?Create shortcuts here? option
3) Right click on the new shortcut and hit properties
4) Go to the shortcut tab, and click inside the ?shortcut key? box.
5) Make your shortcut key combo. For example I use ALT + F12. Hit apply and OK to close the dialogue box.

Although I am Administrator, I am being blocked from shortcut key which indicated "None" at the moment, to make create a shortcut to do what is suggested in the above instructions.

Can anyone advise a way to unblock (allow) me; or a workaround to adjust my volume and add a mute button shortcut from my keyboard (preferably from the up/ down arrows on the numeric pad) without going to a third party software or a purchasing new keyboard?

Thanks in advance.

Hi everybody,

My problem is that I cannot adjust the volume of video clips 'normally' when using Media Player Classic. Whenever I use this program, it does not allow me to increase/decrease the volume on my default volume scale, instead, it uses a built-in volume scale and therefore forces me to use that stupid scale.

How can I disable this annoying feature of Media Player Classic so that I can adjust the volume as normally as when I use other programs.

Thanks in advance!

A:Adjust volume in Media Player Classic

2. Open up my computer

3. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\yourloginname\Application Data\

I couldn't find the exact drivers, except for a page here: http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SO...gmatel-STAC-92XX-Audio-Drivers-006-5682.shtml

If it is an addon sound card just search and download from the manufacture

This has been annoying me for quite some time now.. Whenever I plug in headphone to my Lenovo Yoga 500-14IBD, the Realtek Audio Manager does pop-up an annoying message that I connected headphones, but it does not adjust the volume accordingly. It's slowly driving me insane that I cannot find a solution to it. To my knowledge it has been default since a few years that laptops recognise and memorise different volumes for the headphone-jack or the internal speakers. I have found several topics on this, dating back to 2013 already even (like here), where this was possible with a single click in the Realtek Audio Manager. But then, years later, in this topic of 2018 it seems it is not possible anymore? I cannot find any of the suggested settings in the Realtek Audio Manager, nor in the Sound or Device settings. Under "Device advanced settings" I do have an option to separate the inputs as different devices, indicating to me that it is possible for the outputs as well! Does anyone know how to solve this once and for all?

I'm trying to write a simple batch file that would mute or turn down the volume at startup. The idea is to stop the obnoxious MS startup tune when booting up in a place where I don't want attention; i.e. on a plane, in a meeting, classroom, etc. As a techie I'm way too lazy and forgetful to mute the sound before logging off everytime and would much rather write a complicated script to do this.

ps. why don't laptop makers install the old toggle volume switches?? click=on, off.. it would be such a simple solution to this..

I have been searching different forums where the speaker icon has disappeared from the notification area of the task bar, but have not found a solution to the particular problem I am experiencing. In my case the speaker icon is still visible but when I click on it, I no longer get the vertical bar which allows me to adjust the volume. I have made no recent changes to my computer and cannot understand why this has suddenly happened. I have gone to taskbar properties and tried turning the volume icon on and off but this has not cured the problem.

I have discovered the problem I am experiencing is limited to my user account only. I have one other named account and a guest account. The other user is able to adjust the volume from the speaker icon on the notification bar, and when I log into the guest account I find it is also working perfectly. However, when I log into my user acount it does not work. I have also tried adjusting the volume by going into Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Sound - Adjust system volume but when I click on it nothing happens. However, when I go into the guest account I find I can adjust the volume from both the icon on the notification bar and by going through the Control Panel method.

I therefore suspect that my user account may have been corrupted in some way. I should stress that my problem is limited to my inability to adjust the volume in my user account. I do have sound, I just am unable to control it!

I can't reinstall, update or repair windows due to some error that says something occured and it shutdown setup to protect my computer. Awesome.

Details:
When I try to unistall my SB LIVE drivers and use my onboard soundcard, windows starts automatically reinstalling the SBL drivers anyways. The only issue I run into using my onboard soundcard drivers is that I can't adjust sound volume for anything other than my speakers because it's missing sndvol32.exe.

Trying to update SBL is like going to hell and back. I let windows do its thing and install the drivers it currently has in my drive, then when I try to update from Creative's website, I get an error that their creative playcenter could not be found. But it clearly has installed the playcenter because it shows up in the control panel.

I'm going in circles and I'm going to go insane.

Hi Sebboh, Have You Tried Searching For The File??

...in other locations on your computer?? If you have an "I386" folder on your "C" drive, open the "I386" folder. There should be a "Sndvol32.exe" file that is backed up there.. You should be able copy and paste the Sndvol32.exe file from there to the C\Windows\System32 folder where it belongs.

If that doesn't work Try System Restore ...

or find a Windows XP CD, or find somebody with a working Windows XP and a diskette or USB drive to copy the file.

This problem has started in recent weeks (yes, too far back to do System Restore):

When I reboot, if I click on the speaker icon in the Notification Area, it tells me that Windows Audio is not running (and so no media app will produce any sound). However, if I then raise or lower the volume via my multimedia keyboard, Windows Audio starts running.

This is despite the fact that in Services, the Startup Type of Windows Audio is Automatic. So why doesn't it start on reboot?

Does anyone have any idea on how to correct a problem I am having with my deaCentre A520? All of the sudden I can no longer use the touch buttons on the bottom of the screen. They light up when touched - HDMI, brightness, volume, etc - but they no longer work. I have been running Windows 10 for sometime now - I doubt it is a software issue with MS. Any idea on how to correct this issue? I can use the touch screen just fine - just not the control buttons on the bottom of the screen. Thanks.

I have a Cyber Acoustics usb microphone for my computer and the input volume of it is increadibally low. I have a Creative Sound Blaster Live 24Bit Sound card. I used to use on board sound but it had the same problem hence the switch. And Ideas as to why I have to eat the microphone to hear myself in the speakers. And its not a faulty mic as this is the third headset i've owened with the same problem. I've run windows sound tests on it and set all the volumes to max and still I'm having to taste a little plastic to have my voice heard.

Thanks In Advance

Have you went this route?

To adjust the recording volume

On the Options menu, click Properties.
In the Properties dialog box, under Adjust volume for, click Recording.
Select the check box next to the device that contains the input volume you want to adjust, and then click OK.
Drag the Volume slider up or down to increase or decrease the input volume.

Hi, forgive me if this is in the wrong section. I've googled this problem quite a bit and found nothing, i found some people who have the same problem but no solution so I've decided to try here. I'm using Windows 7 by the way incase that helps.

I recently bought one of those wireless Microsoft Lifechat ZX-6000 headsets to use and my problem is that the recording volume is way too low. My other headset that I use is wired and was also quiet until I increased the Microphone Boost option so I thought I could do the same with my wireless one. The problem is that there is NO microphone boost option as far as I can tell.

So with no apparent Microphone Boost, the Mic is almost useless to me. I can work around it in Ventrilo by lowering the sensitivity but it's still not as good as my wired Mic.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hello,

I bought a couple of computer microphones the other day but when I plug them in, they hardly capture any sound at all unless you shout into them. I tried another microphone and the same thing happned so I made sure their volume was up, which it was to 100.

I have two ports so I've tried it in them both and still the same thing.

Here are the specifications for the microphone if it means anything:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?...&doy=5m10#spec

So is there any way to boost the sound?

Thanks, Danny

Oh yeah and the sound on the computer works fine so I don't think it should be anything to do with the soundcard.

My mic has been working fine for months. A couple of days ago, after a prolonged period of not using the mic, I noticed other people couldn't hear me.

Fiddling with Sound Recorder, I can only get my voice audible if I yell very loud or blow into the mic really hard.

Microphone boost is on. Volume is set to max. Both front and back panel microphone ports have the issue. Two of my headphones that are functional on other computers do not work correctly on mine. I have a P5B-E motherboard with onboard sound, with latest drivers.

What could possibly be the problem?

Hi. Before I start, yes, I have searched the forum for this issue before. I've done possibly everything everyone has said and still no fix.

I've read that you have to go to Communications in the Sound window, and select Do nothing. That doesn't work.

I've read that you have to go to the microphone, double click on it, go to the levels tab, and move the lever all the way up, as long as the boost lever. I don't have the boost. Only the microphone is present as you can see in the screenshot. That doesn't work.

I just downloaded Windows 8 last Thursday so all of my updates are installed. I updated to the latest drivers for my sound card thing, which I guess is intergrated. Now, before you tell me it's my mic, before Windows 8 I was using xubuntu until I could afford Windows 8. My microphone was fine. It picked up great. I could hide it behind my monitor (which is atleast 3 or 4 feet away) and it would still pick up fine. Now in order for it to pickup my voice like it did behind the monitor I have to have it literally 1 cm away. I honestly don't know what to do anymore.

If you'd like to hear some example of how it works now, please feel free to listen to the links below. I'll show what they sound like next to my face and then what it sounds like where I use to have my mic. Please note that the voice isn't really my real one, just a mock-up one.

Please fill in the "My System Specs". It helps us to try and help you.

The first question, do you have the proper sound driver installed? The PC Vendor (or motherboard in a custom system) sound driver is the preferred. If you have "High Definition Audio" installed that normally says it is only the basic function generic Windows installed sound driver and not the correct driver.

I have connected 3 different head sets (that function properly in other PC's) to my desktop and if I scream into the mic it will record a whisper. Mic is not muted, volumes are up (via contol panel and realtek HD audio manager) and mic boost is up 30 DB (via control panel and realtek hd audio manager). I have tried both the front and rear jacks as well as one in my keyboard with no change. I updated the sound drivers through device manager (clicked update driver) and ran live update 5 (mobo software that scans and looks for updates for multiple drivers).

Now im stuck

Try the latest Realtek HD onboard audio drivers here. Do you use the Windows 7 sound recording feature? Do you have a dedicated port for Mic only?

I have sold my computer yesterday and told the person to contact me if there are any issues. She did.
Apparently she is having issues that her microphone volume, both the one with webcam and the headphones, is too low. She said that she checked the settings in the audio control panel and everything was fine there.
I know it isn't a hardware issue because I did not have the same issue in either Windows 7 or Windows 8 on that computer. Before I gave the PC to her I did do a clean install of Windows 8.
I told her to install the Realtek drivers to see if that would fix the issue, but I am wondering if anyone else had that issue and what they'd done to fix it.

It's a built-in audio chipset Realtek ALC 887 on an ASUS M5A97 R2.0 with Windows 8 Pro 64 bit

Hi
I have been using my new MXL USB 007 stereo microphone on Windows 7 Professional with clear quality audio for a while now.
On Monday 26 November 2012, I reformatted my PC laptop hard disk and installed Windows 8 Pro.
Now, the quality of the recorded audio is heavily subdued without the clear clarity I used to get. In other words, I am getting very low volume, even though the recording level is on 85 (I tried with 90 as well. 100 has way too much distortion).
As a test, I connected the same microphone to another one of my machines that still has Windows 7 Professional, and the audio result was excellent. So, it?s not the actual microphone.
I have checked the Windows 8 sound settings. It says the device is working properly. There is only the Levels to adjust and under the Advanced tab, I have 2 channel, 16 bit, 48 kHz, DVD quality - same as before on Windows 7.
Is there some setting or something else I should do on Windows 8 to get decent sound again?
Any ideas? Please help ....
Thank you.

Just installed the release candidate of Windows 7.
Was previously running Vista.
I use Skype a lot, and my microphone volume level is much lower now than it ever was.
People are telling me they can hardly hear me when I call them.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop- the mic is built-in.
I've looked at all the obvious settings both within Skype and also within Windows, but not managed to fix this yet.
Any suggestions?

Hi Steven, welcome to the forums.

I have had the same issue with my laptop (e-system). You have to go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound, open the 'Sound' option. Click the 'Recording' tab and you may see 2 microphone devices, I had to 'disable' (right-click) the first device while changing the properties of the second one (volume levels + boost to +20)

Hope this helps

Jeff
