I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have heard of stability issues on those Gigabyte motherboards where people are having those problems with their mice.

Is your BIOS up to date? maybe it will contain an update on the website for the BIOS that improves system stability.

Is this a PS2 Mouse, or a USB mouse. If a USB, disconnect and then reconnect. If its a USB mouse that is wireless, make sure the battery is good, and if you have another computer, do a test.

Also try to boot from your Windows Installation Media and see if your mouse shows there, could give it a try.

If freezing and lagging during gaming, then could be possible overheating. Do you have a program installed like HWmonitor checking your CPU and GPU thermals. Make sure they aren't getting to hot.

If problem continues to persist. I would start troubleshooting. If you have another computer. or spare hard disk that is SATA, try installing windows on that, and try to duplicate the issue, if it comes back, rule out the hard drive.

Next would be either the GPU, RAM, or Motherboard. You would have to stress test the GPU by using Furmark, or similar program, like MSI Kombuster. If GPU stress test passes, move on to Memory.

while computer is powered down, and PSU off or unplugged. remove and reseat the memory modules, making sure they are fully seated, Do memory diagnostics with memtestx86 or something similar, and do a few passes, If memory check passes, Its more than likely there is a problem with the motherboard.

Weird problem for sure. You may have to do a RMA on that board if you haven't had it long.

Ocassionally, while working in any application, my mouse pointer will 'stick' in one place on the screen, but the mouse itself still functions, you just can't see where it is on the screen. Re-booting temporarily corrects the problem. I've tried different mouses. I've re-installed the mouse driver. I've re-installed my video display driver. This is a brand new system with an Athlon AMD processer and an Asus motherboard. VIA Prosavage video. I use Windows 98. Please HELP!!

I have an HP Windows 7 computer that has been working fine until I attempted to install Chrome Browser.  Sometime afterward I noticed that my mouse curser would jump around erratically at times and if I try to left click on something, it doesn't work at all and I might have to wait 30 to 120 seconds for the mouse click to work again.  I de-installed Chrome, but the problem continues.  My Windows updates are all up to date, with the exception of the optional updates.  (I rarely install them because I never can figure out if they're necessary, so being safe rather than guess, I don't install optional updates).  This cursor problem has been going on for a few weeks and occasionally my keyboard doesn't seem to print out letters as typed.  There seems to be a lag at times, although that's not often.  Until the Chrome install, this computer has been perfect.  Any assist will be appreciated.

I had an issue with this before when fixing a brothers computer which was badly infested with viruses. It took a couple days to get everything out. I don't just use the software I go into regedit and All the individual folders to remove the viruses. But I dont know if you have viruses that may slow down your computer But after I removed all His viruses well It stoped. His mouse jumped around like crazy would move to the side and not let you move it back for a while. But Idk for your situation.

Hello,

I'm a computing science engineer, and there is something that is driving me nuts in one of my PCs.
This one runs Windows 7 ultimate 32, but the issue was the same with Vista (this is why I have upgraded this machine to 7)
This is a desktop PC with ASUS mother board.
I spend a lot of time googling this question, but I could not find any answer that could solve the issue.
The mouse of this PC get stuck in a random fashion..
I have test with 5 different mouse brand, wireless, not wireless ... no way to get rid of the issue ...
I put the mouse into another USB PCI card : same behavior
Checked device manager, all Ok
Checked IRQ, all OK
Windows logs : all fine, even not a warning.

The mouse uses the generic microsoft driver

ie :
mouclass.sys 06/21/2006
mouhid.sys 06/21/2006
version is 6.1.7600.16385

Any idea to get rid of it ? This is very annoying.

Thanks

A:On mouse moven the mouse pointer gets stuck randomly

What kind of hard drive do you have, HDD or SSD? If the mouse is randomly freezing sometimes that can be the result of a hard drive problem.

Hello everyone,

I just purchased a new Alienware PC and it is just fantastic!

My only little problem is that I am having a weird issue I can't seem to find an answer for online.

When I boot my PC everything is working perfectly fine like it should. However whenever I access a website or program that makes the screen flash my mouse pointer dissapears. It will then reappear as little lines with no mouse pointer visible. It is a pain to navigate the computer this way until I go to a web page or program and the mouse pointer comes back.

Please let me know if there's anything I can do to correct this.

My setup is a Intel Core I7 930 QC (2.8 Ghz, 8MB Cache)

Windows 7 64 bit

Dual ATI Radeon HD 5670 with crossfire enabled.

The mouse that I am using is a Razer Deathadder and I connected to through HDMI to a 22inc Vizio 720P LCD television.

A:Mouse pointer issues with new Alienware Aurora Mouse

I'm not sure if this will help, go to your Mouse settings in Control Panel and turn on the "mouse trail" set it to the minimal that it will go to. Try and get the screen flash+mouse disappear to happen and see if it goes away.

This is however NOT a fix if it does work.. I use to play Battlefield 2 and half the time my mouse would disappear "behind the screen" as if there was no mouse there, but I could click things. Turning on the trail displayed the mouse but it was really aggravating and a little hard on the eyes..

Like I said it is not a fix. What do you mean though about a webpage/program that loads and makes the screen flash, like, it changes resolutions to accommodate for the program?

If it is that then I see this either being a video or monitor issue.. Maybe try changing the screen refresh rate, or the bit colour? I haven't had this issue in a long time so I can not play around with it to try.

One last thing you can try is, there is also a setting where the Mouse Pointer Trail is enabled that says to hide the mouse when you type, try disabling this and see if it helps? I doubt this will fix the issue but you never know.

Hi,It appears I somehow deactivated my touchpad or something along those lines as my mouse pointer/cursor has completely disappeared? It was working fine yesterday, and I think the only thing that might have triggered this is that I accidentally pressed some keys (unsure of which ones, so I don't even know how to reverse it). I've tried restarting, as well as looked through some of the mouse/touchpad settings to no avail. If anyone can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it (I'm currently relying on my fingers and the touchscreen which isn't as convenient)

When windows starts up there is no mouse pointer, and will stay hidden until i move my mouse. This was the case without the logitech drivers; with the drivers installed but not running and with the drivers installed and running. So i doubt this is because of the drivers.

Hey guys,

I've updated to windows 10 and have been enjoying it for the most part. I have a hybrid pc, which is actually an Asus Tablet with a dock. It's an asus T200TA. But lately I have been running into some trouble and I really need help.

After the december (2015) big update I lost the ability to scroll using two fingers on my trackpad. Since many people were also getting trackpad problems I decided to update my driver (synaptics). After much effort finding a more recent driver and installing it (because windows 10 kept saying I already had the most recent and I couldn't run it), the issue went away. Two days ago, for no apparent reason, the issue came back. Could it be that windows updated itself and in the process "updated" my trackpad driver to another crappy one again?

Another issue that I have is with the wake up screen. Once it sleeps and I awaken it, sometimes, at least 30% of the time I get a semi-black screen instead of my login screen. The mouse cursor is visible but it's the only thing I can control, everything else is black. The only way to get into windows is to hit CRTL+ALT+DEL. Then the login screen appears immediately, not the ?ctual task manager. If my dock is not plugged, I have to shut down the pc forcefully or plug the dock. Curiously this issue started soon after I installed the driver that made my two+finger scrolling return. Don't know if it could be related but it's worth mentioning.

The third issue began last night. Again, for no appa... Read more

Help would be appreciated.

A:change the mouse pointer to a yellow circle around the pointer!

The way I have change cursors is to treat them like a system file you need to take ownership give yourself permission and rename the original cursor with a .bak in the name and then copy and paste the custom cursor with the original cursor's name into C:\Windows\Cursors folder. Take a look at Post #6 of this thread will tell you how to do it Basic Networking Information

Then you will need to reboot.

Hi,

I use win xp pro service pack 2.
I don't know how or when (little brothers) but my mouse pointer goes to the "working in background" graphic from startup.
I noticed in task manager, in the processes list that regsrv32.exe keeps blinking on and off. Which would be the reason for the pointer problem.
This happens in safe mode as well.
I ran two diff online virus scans which said i'm clear. Ran adaware. Ran yahoo anti-spy which removed something.
I've opened hijackthis and things seem ok except for a bho that won't fix or delete.
I've run CWShredder, which said it removed VX2.Look2Me. After restart it said the same thing. I then used a symantec tool for look2me removal. Said I was clear. Even tried manual removal steps. Nothing there. CWShredder still says it removes it each time I run it.

I have nothing unusual in my startup list. No regsrv32.exe listed. No sign of W32/Rbot-GM worm.
I tried searching for regsrv32.exe on my computer. The search thing must be faulty because it finds nothing. In my system32 folder though i have the proper microsoft file.

The last thing I tried was a windows update. 14 files were listed. After restart, automatic update still came up asking to download and install 4 files.
I did it again, and again, and again. The 4 files won't install.

despair.
pls help

First run Antivirus, Malware, and Spyware scans. Remove anything the programs find.

Note: if you need some suggestions on which tools to use, let me know.

Afterwards, test functionally of mouse and keyboard.

If no change, run System Restore, choose a Restore point before the issue started.

Again test behavior of mouse and keyboard.

If the issue has been resolved, go ahead and reinstall windows Updates.

I just purchased a new HP computer with Windows 7 Pro running 64-bit. I also purchased HP's 25" widescreen monitor. It is beautiful. One could not ask for a more perfect viewing experience with an OS like Win7Pro as seen through this monitor. However, I have an unexpected problem. One I clearly did not anticipate.

My old monitor was a 20" square Dell UltraSharp that I bought in 2003. While the new HP monitor allows you to see everything since there is so much space, I did not anticipate the extra stress on my wrist, forearm, upper arm, and shoulder from having to move the mouse and pointer around so much. The extra 5" makes a huge difference.

These are the adjustments I have made so far followed by what I have heard might be available. Under the Control Panel section for Mouse, I have changed the Motion to the fastest setting possible. I have also checked the Snap To button so that the pointer will automatically move to the default button in a dialog box.

Staying within the Control Panel, I then went to the Ease of Access Center. There I chose Make the Mouse Easier to Use and then I clicked on Set Up Mouse Keys. There, under Pointer Speed I set Top Speed to High and Acceleration to Fast.

So far, none of these changes are having much of an impact. When I went back to my old monitor for a few days, the stress on my arm subsided but the viewing experience was just not he same. I am back to my new monitor now and, once again, my arm is hurting.

Hello, I have Win7 for about a year now and I really didn't have any problems up until a few months ago. My mouse pointer would start refreshing/flickering every 5 minutes or so and it would slow down anything I was watching or playing at the time. It doesn't really bother me when I watch movies because I can just shake the mouse and it would stop but when I play games I can't do anything about it and so I can't really play any games. I asked my repair man, he also has Win7 but he didn't know how to fix it. Is there a way to fix this problem?

Maybe the mouse driver in device manager. Go to device manger and take a look.

Hello!

Assuming you are using a touchpad, the scroll bar appears at the right zone of your touchpad to use that as a scroll bar. You can turn that off by going to "Configuration Panel" --> "Mouse" --> "Hardware/Device Settings" (assuming you have a Synaptics touchpad. Then go to scrolling zones.

Could you please provide us more info about your PC? Here is how:

---------------------------------------------
UPDATE YOUR SEVENFORUMS SYSTEM SPECS
Go to your "User CP" (3rd item in the top menu bar)

In the left-hand column, under Your Profile, click "Edit System Spec".
Use Speccy - System Information - Free Download
and/or SIW to gather info for filling in the blanks.

"system manufacturer” block : please add if it is a Desktop or Laptop

Provide full windows version info, such as provided by Speccy:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader, Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor

Scroll down and click on the SAVE CHANGES button.
---------------------------------------------

If you are using a desktop this is a whole other story.

I would also move this post to the "general questions" forum since this is a hardware issue and has nothing to do with theming/customization.

Okay I have a very strange problem, My mouse pointer disappeared when I restarted my computer. I tried restarting again and I tried to pick a different pointer in the control panel, but nothing. It was there, then I restarted and it was gone. What could be wrong?

Recently I installed a Microsoft wireless mouse and it is working. But the wired mouse is now sporadic and at times freezes. I have unplugged the wireless mouse and rebooted several times. Even did a system restore.
Also an Excel spreadsheet stopped working with the wired mouse just freezing the screen completely. Even after rebooting, the Excel will open and eventually I will get a cross hair image. I have tried to update the driver on the wired mouse but it says I already have the most uptodate one. I am running Windows 10 64 bit. I scanned with Malware antimalware and it eliminated over 300 items. I am not sure what is going on.
I hope I don't have a virus. I have Norton 360 with my Comcast subscription but now I cannot even see it in my taskbar. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall but nothing happens in Control Panel when I try to uninstall.
I have a Dell XPS desktop. As I write the wired mouse is not functioning. If I unplug the mouse and put it back in the mouse port it works for a minute or so and then just dies. I don't even see the red light at the bottom of the mouse sometimes. I just unplugged the wired mouse and now it is working. So it is very odd behavior. I imagine by the time I post this the wired mouse will freeze again as has been the case. In the interim while I wait for a reply, I'll contact Comcast and see if they can help me with the Norton virus software issue.

Sometimes right after I use the mouse, it'll drift until I use it again. Usually I just pick up the mouse and it'll stop.

I've looked up how to correct it. They say to make sure the "enhance pointer precision" box is checked in the mouse hardware screen. It still drifts.

It's a Logitech Click! Optical.

I have that problem with the Logitech Marble mouse, too. It's also optical and I suspect it's because the mousing platform isn't level or the mouse slides a little. The ball might have some momentum from the last movement or dirt/crud fouls the sensor.

I use a Logitech laser mouse but still leave the Dell USB mouse connected with no problems, but twice recently the screen pointer has frozen, totally unresponsive to both mice (mouses?), the only solution being the OFF switch.

On reboot, it's fine, but it's happened twice now. Is this Microsoft's way of telling me to buy a new computer?

Appreciate thoughts.

What is the model# of your Logitech mouse? By Laser mouse, I assume you mean Wireless? Have you changed the batteries in the mouse? Is the USB connector plugged into the back of the computer or the front? The front are much weaker USB ports?
Go to the Logitech site Product Support & Software Downloads: Mice - Logitech and find your model and download an updated driver for the mouse.

My daughter has a Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop. After being on the computer for about 10 minutes, the mouse pointer moves on it's own. The touch pad can drag it back while it is still in the process of moving, so she can never get it to stop migrating to one of the corners of the screen. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I am having trouble with the mouse pointer of my laptop.
I have a Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop (about 3 years old), on which i have installed a logitech cordless mouse and keyboard about a year ago and it was working all fine.
Now I have started having a problem with the mouse. The problem is that the mouse pointer drifts to one corner of the screen. Sometimes to the top right corner and sometimes to the bottom left corner. Earlier rebooting the system was solving the problem but now it seems completley out of control. The drift is very strong and it has gotten very difficult to do anything with the mouse.
I appreciate your time.
Thanks

Happy Holidays!!!

I have recently been having an issue with my mouse pointer. I have two pointers showing, one that I can see and move and acts properly, and the other that remains stationary and looks like the one with a pointer and a miniature timer beside it. No matter what window I go to, what program I am viewing, on the desktop...basically everywhere, it's there, staring at me and getting in the way. Sometimes it disappears, but not a moment too soon, there it is again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Hi folks!! Some help would be great! I have an older computer (Pentium II) that I just upgraded. I also erased the hard drive to start nice and fresh. The problem is my mouse. It works fine with Win95. As soon as I installed Win98 upgrade, it went kahploohy!! I now have a pair of black lines for a pointer. They are about an 1" long & 1/4" wide a piece. I have tried installing new mouses, using different adapters & the one that comes with the mouse, uninstalling & reinstalling a hundred times, and changing display. If I put the display on 16bit I have a pointer but terrible display everywhere else. The port is Serial, I am using an adapter for PS/2. This happened a few years ago when I first installed Win98. I can't remember what the fix was. Any help is appreciated.

Please help! I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 loaded with XP(sp2). I have the following programs loaded to help with virus and malware. AD-AwareSE, SpybotS&D, Spywareblaster, AVGFree, Ewido Security Suite and Windows Defender. The problem I'm having is the pointer will move either to the lower left (start button) of the screen or the top right corner of the screen. Once there I will try to move it but the pointer acts as if it's being magnatized there. I'll move it and it wants to go back or stick there. Some times I can't tell where the pointer is and moving the mouse or tapping the pad will not do anything. Only after doing this for some time will the pointer reveal itself.
I have ran virus tests and have found nothing. I have looked for installed programs in the add programs section and found nothing strange. I have read on forums that it could be a mouse problem, however that does not relate to me because I did not have a mouse attacthed to the laptop when I noticed the problem. I noticed the problem while viewing a movie with my wife during our stay in Paris. I noticed after some time the pointer would move across the screen from lower left to upper right on its own for no reason. would stop for a few seconds say 20 and then start to do it's unusual flight pattern. during that time I did not have a mouse attached to the laptop. There are no joke pointer programs installed and I ran a program intended to find the Peper Trojan but the result said no ... Read more

Many times while I am on the computer my mouse pointer will freeze and not move. Sometimes the solution to this problem will be to unplug the mouse from the back of the computer and plug it back in and voila, the mouse pointer will move again. Yet, sometimes this does not work and I have to restart the computer. A problem I believe is related and what leads me to believe it isn't a hardware problem is that my mouse pointer will sometimes jerk about the screen when I try to move it, but will ultimately end up flying to the lower left part of the screen. Touching the mouse when it does this will result in the pointer flying about the screen aimlessly and for some odd reason the mouse will automatically click upon anything it touches which many times causes much of my windows to automatically close. The solution for this problem is not unplugging the mouse because even if I do this the mouse pointer in the lower left part of the screen will still be continuously clicking the Windows Start button. I have to wait patiently when this attack happens for it to finish before I can continue working on my computer. Can anyone help me with this problem?
