I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am working in Excel (Hyperion essbase) where I am retreiving data from a number of sheets. I want to exclude a specific sheet in my workbook by it's sheetname (and not by countposition as I know I can use in this specific case by putting the sheet for instance last). The sheet I want to exclude is named "TOT" Here is my code that I thought would work but it still includes sheet "TOT" when running the macro:

Month = InputBox("YTD month?")
For i = 1 To Worksheets.Count
If Sheets(i).Visible And TypeName(Sheets(i)) <> "TOT" Then
ActiveSheet.Range("B7:C7").Value = "Y-T-D(FY09 " & Month & ")"

In a Windows 8 PC, User account is "Standard" and Administrator account is different, in which how can I exclude some application which is from asking administrator password to execute?
My situation is specially for application updates such as java and/or adobe reader. Each time, when there is an update, it is asking administrator password to run the same.
Kindly assist.

A:Exclude specific application execution in "Standard User"

Hello Anil, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Normally you could use an option in the tutorial below to prevent standard "users" from being able to run a specific file.

Applications - Prevent Running Specified Programs - Windows 7 Help Forums

However, in this case, the user isn't the one running the application. The applications are set to automatically check for updates, so they're running themselves instead. If you turn off the check for updates automatically option in the java and Adobe programs, it should stop this. You will of course need to manually check for updates afterwards every so often though.

Hope this helps,

Hello all!
So I work tech support at my company and recently had one of our secretaries run into a virus. It was an email containing a fake resume in .doc format that once opened, attempted to direct the computer to download a trojan. AVG detected it right off the bat and quarantined it. I then ran a full system scan with AVG, Malwarebytes, and Spybot and everything came back clean.  I had assumed AVG along with Word being macro-disabled by default kept anything from actually happening.
However, at the time of the download she was running our company bookkeeping software (eClub for those interested) and it crashed once she tried to use it again. I check it out and see that the .exe to run eClub had been removed from the eClub folder (let's call it eclub.exe). Weird! So I go ahead and completely uninstall the program and reinstall, only to find eclub.exe was not reinstalled with it. I copy eclub.exe from another computer and try to paste it into the folder, and I'm told I don't have permission to do so. Then things get weird:
1. I uninstalled eClub completely again, removed the eClub folder and every possible saved setting for it.
2. I created a blank eClub folder (ex. C:\Program Files\eClub)
3. I can put anything I want into this folder, including .exes, EXCEPT for eclub.exe, getting the insufficient permission error.
4. I can put eclub.exe in subfolders of C:\Program Files\eClub without a problem
I checked all my permission levels and have fu... Read more

So I had hibernation enabled (Saves contents of RAM to hard disk and powers the machine off). One day I used disk cleanup to get rid of TEMP files and such. I mistakenly had the "Hibernation file cleaner" box selected- so when I performed the cleanup, the hibernation file was deleted and hibernation disabled. But it wasn't just disabled- In power options in control panel, it's no longer an option anywhere. Under "what to do when the power button is poressed" in the advanced power options, it still remembers that I had Hibernate selected- but if I open the pulldown menu, the option is actually gone. I can't reenable it because it isn't even there. How do I get it back? I've tried everything I can think of, including creating a file in the root of the hard drive "hiberfil" (no extension), which is what the hibernation file is called. its as if Windows never had support for this feature at all.

Appreciate the help.

A:Solved: MP3 file gets shorter (length) in an specific destination

If i change the name of the file it gets to the original length, also if i move the folder where the file is to another location. So the problem seem to be the specific URL with the specific name of the file, that makes it shorter.

I was wondering if there was a piece of software or a script that could monitor a folder for changes. Specifically, when a new file is created in that folder, it would be able to move all of the older files to a different folder.

I have found ways to do this based on how old a file is, but I just need to be able to move all of the old files in a specific folder once a new file is created there.

I have a file on my desktop which keeps making windows explorer crash and restart in a continuous loop. The file is an MKV file from my new HD camera (cheap one off ebay which I am now suspicious is dodgy) which is sitting on my desktop.

Explorer crashes when I log on to MY username almost instantly when it loads up. I'v booted it up in safe mode and explorer is fine but I can't delete the file. Everything (time remaining ect) still says calculating on wont delete it.

I can log on as another user and explorer is fine until I touch that file. I can rename, delete or do hatever to any other file on my desktop (on someone elses account) but as soon as I do something to this file, explorer crashes and restarts so I assume that file is infected. Iv scanned with AVG and malwarebytes and also used F-secure and onecare's online scanner, not finding anything except a few tracking cookies (F-secure was my first scan which removed them).

I'm currently uploading the file to VirusTotal so I'll see what that says.

Any other ideas on how to delete the file? It's useless anyway.

Thank you.

Hello all. Not a regular user of Excel; but do need help in creating something that would be useful to me and a few others at work. I suppose the best way of explaining what I'm after is by giving an example.

I have a directory C:\Users\Tekko\Desktop\Maintenance Project\Cape Nelson
In Cape Nelson are a number of folders named alpha beta charlie delta echo and foxtrot and so on.

I would like to have an excel template in "Cape Nelson" with a macro that when activated names the file as whatever folder name might be in say cell A1 and whatever ever date might be in cell B1. Eg charlie_15-mar-2013.xls
This then is saved in the relevant folder. So in the end I would end up with
C:\Users\Tekko\Desktop\Maintenance Project\Cape Nelson\charlie\charlie_15-mar-2013.xls

Also the macro script would ensure that the macro was disabled in the saved file.

Hoping this is achievable and look forward to replies.

I have an iGoogle/gmail/anything Google account, and I was wondering, is it possible to have any kind of settings in this where in all of my searches, a certain domain is excluded? Whenever I do troubleshooting online, my searches are littered with "experts-exchange," which is a thoroughly useless website because you have to have a paid membership to see the answers-- otherwise, you just see the questions.

I know that you can exclude certain domains using certain commands (or the advanced search), but that would mean doing something every time I search. What I'm looking for is something along the lines of a blacklist. I want Google to ignore experts-exchange in all of my searches. Is that possible?

I've looked all over the options in Google and I've even tried looking at Firefox add-ons, but I can't seem to find anything.

For some time I have been unable to send email to one specific domain. If I send a very brief message (literally a few words) the email will go through: if there is an attachment or more than just a few words in the message body I receive a delivery failure notification. I have checked with my ISP (BT connect) and the ISP of the recipient and there is no evidence that the problem is due to filtering, blacklisting etc.

I have no problem sending emails (with or without attachments) to any other domain.

My pc runs Win98SE and Outlook 2000.

I signed up for a hotmail account and was able to send an email with a large attachment to the affected domain using that. I concluded the problem was my ISP, but before changing to another I ran one more test.

I sent a large email to the affected domain using my Win XP Pro laptop, also with Outlook 2000. It arrived!

This suggests the problem is specific to my PC setup. The problem started some time ago (maybe a year or so) - before that I was able to send emails to the domain from the PC.

I'd be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions about what could be causing this problem on the specific pc.

Hi guys,
Long time reader, first time poster!

Hopefully my frazzled brain can make sense enough of this so that you can offer me some help.

Basically, I'm working on a spreadsheet that calculates how many hours an employee is owed.
I've created a user friendly front sheet that the end user fills in the total hours for a week, then I have another sheet full of formula to convert the users input (hrs.mins) into decimal fraction. That was the easy part.
I've made a sheet up to return the value of a formula calculating how many hours over the stated amount have been worked.
However, as this spreadsheet is forward planned so the user only has to fill it in, not create new space for new data, every cell that is 'in the future' so to speak, shows up a value of -48 (the return value of my formula). As the employee has not yet worked any hours, they technically still owe all the hours to the company.
This screws up my total for the period I'm summing up. Hence why I want to 'tell' my formula to ignore any cells with a value of -48. Obviously as time progresses and these cell values change, they will then be included in the formula.

I really hope that makes sense..
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have Windows XP-Pro SP2 installed on a P4 1.8GHz CPU with 768MB RAM

I would like a script that opens a commamd window and calls for a file (icon file) to be copied to a specific folder on 5 different drives. I would like to be able to either paste in the file path or drag and drop the file onto the command window. The icon file will always come from the same folder "C:\WINDOWS\system32\00 ICONS\System Folders" and be copied, sometimes replacing a file with the same name, to these 5 folders:

"W:\WINDOWS\system32\00 ICONS\System Folders"

"X:\0 aAPPS\00 a Install First\00 ICONS\System Folders"

"W:\WINDOWS\system32\00 ICONS\System Folders"

"N:\0 aAPPS\00 a Install First\00 ICONS\System Folders"

"D:\0 aAPPS\00 a Install First\00 ICONS\System Folders"

I apologize if I am using incorrect terms. I don't know if a batch file could do this or if it would have to be done with vbs. I would appreciate the help. I know nothing about writng vbs script and only a little about writing batch files.

Hi guys1
I'm about to create a .reg file that will set path in registry to my own icon for specific file extensions. E.g. I want my own icon as a default icon for .ini extension. And not only for one extension but for more of them, in a single .reg file. As always I don't want to mess it up,so I'm looking for some basic assistance on how to fill a notepad. And I know this is the best place to look at

P.S. I do use a Default Program Editor and File Types Manager, but I wanted a single .reg that will do the job for multiple modifications in a single click, something like backup of icon-registry-modifications, as I like to format my PC every year to ensure clean working environment. Setting things up de novo is a lot of fun but time consuming... I made a backup of registry and a Restore Point, just in case.

For any idea, thanks in advance!!

A:.reg file to set default icon for specific file extensions

If changing the icon worked with the tools you mention, use Process Monitor or Regshot to track down specific changes in the registry for .ini that change the icon. Then create similar registry entries for other extensions in your REG-file.

A:File Cleanup On Windows Xp

Unfortunately short of physically destroying the drive you can't delete the information. There are ways to read the hdd even if the drive has been wiped, the data can still be retrieved with a microscope and someone trained in forensic retrieval techniques. This is a very expensive process, and I doubt that your average person will be have information worth that amount of money to retrieve. Personally...I'd wipe it with something like Wipe Drive or Active Killdisk and not worry about it.Edit: I didn't provide a link to Drive Wipe as it is a commercial application.

HI folks...

Hope someone can help with my problem...

I have an external USB disk drive which until yesterday was functioning perfectly. Yesteday evening i cleaned up the drive, and backup lots of data.

When connecting today windows (XP SP2 - fully updated) popped up the new hardware found wizard - strange as the disk has been in use for over a year on all installed USB ports..

Initially i though it a local machine OS issue, but have ruled that out by connecting to another pc which has recongised the disk on previous occasions...

so...( please correct me if im wrong) either ive deleted something on the external disk that i should not have, or the disk is faulty for some reason ( assuming this as the problem occurs on multiple machines)

any ideas please folks.. ?

A:External USB disk not recognised (after file cleanup..)

found the problem - seems the usb controller in the external casing is buggered..

installed the disk in a desktop and the data is still there...

My workplace is having a computer with 20GB HDD split into 2 partitions, 10GB each and is installed with XP Pro. All this while I ma having space problem so I tried using the file compression in disk cleanup utility.

How happy I am that i gave me almost 500MB in space but during the next few days, windows startup seem to be getting much longer. Expecially the part where the windows logo appear behind a black backgroud, the loading seem to take like a minute or two.

It hasn't done this before. Is this bcuz of the compressed files, how do i uncompressed it again. I tried using defrag but still nothing, file fragmentation remains at over 50%, I think it is bcuz of the compressed file

Hi I am running Windows XP on a DELL. My computer seems to be infected, my AVG has found a virus called Obfustat.SOI and found it in files 0.57.exe and A~NSISu_d.exe. AVG won't finish running properly so I had to stop it. I wrote down the files it said were infected.

Whatever has infected my computer has made it super slooow, as in about 5 minutes per click. I am trying to go in and manually remove the files. I currently have the computer searching for 0.57.exe in the My Computer file and subfolders. I have it also looking in hidden files and folders.

Can anyone tell me if I am on the right track in looking for these two files? Thanks so much!!

Yesterday I cleaned up some old folders I no longer use. Now Explorer no longer fully loads, as this 70 second video shows

Windows Explorer not fully loading anymore - YouTube

Explorer gets stuck here:
The left-side menus can NOT be expanded

Thank you for any help!

OS: Windows 7 32 bit
*I deleted music, photo albums, and some old downloads. I may have accidentally deleted something else though.

A:Did a file cleanup; now Explorer fails to load correctly

How or what did you use to clean things with?

Did you create a restore point before you started?

Have you tried a system restore to a point in time before you cleaned your folders?

Chances are you've messed up Windows 7's junction points.

You could try restoring your user folders, as explained in this tutorial.

User Folders - Restore Default Location

If ever you do want extra drive space it's best just to delete the contents of your user folders rather than the folders themselves.

Your library structure is, if you will, a junction point for any folders in the library, regardless of where they are on your computer.

Once you break the links you experience problems such as yours.

Just recently repaired a computer from a serious scareware infection. The internet has stopped working though. I double checked that I reenabled all necessary services and made sure that the hosts file did not have any entries that were preventing internet access to common websites. Also, the only other hint vista has given me is that the hosts service has stopped running.Would really appreciate help on this. I don't want to have come this far only to be beaten.Edit: Looking back, I titled this without double checking what I was typing. It was host service not host file. I can see where possible confusion might arise between the topic and my description as it is now.

I see the AU brings the option of deleting temp files in Edge whenever the browser is closed. This is something I used to do with IE but with Ten and Edge that option has not been available until now.

I wondered what the latest thinking is on whether its a good idea to automatically delete stuff and if so, what options would you choose ?

I'm just experimenting with the 'Always clear this when I close the browser' option selected and these are the settings I'm using.

I am struggling to install two programs. The first being LOLReplay and the second being BaronReplays. I can manage to install both but after a few hours or so (or after closing them down) I find that ONLY the .exe files for these programs has been deleted (including the shorcuts). My firewall has been turned off when installing and also off when running etc. I also had Bullguard Antivirus installed (a year or two ago) and that has run out so I am not sure if I have any antivirus installed. I really need your help as it is hindering my work. Thanks all! If you need any extra info let me know!

A:Specific .exe file being removed.

Not having an antivirus installed and fully updated can be a problem. I have seen where my antivirus would delete .exe files when it determined they were infected but usually I'd get a warning first. Most times the source I downloaded from became the suspect, not all download sites should be trusted. Haven't had much problem with downloading from the publisher's site except limits of bandwidth causing a slowness.

Hey guys, So I recently got a copy of Windows 7 and backed up my old non-legit version of Windows 7 so I wouldn't have to re download everything.

The reinstall didn't really work but I ignored that and copy & pasted all the stuff I needed over from my old Windows copy to my new one and then disk cleaned it.

Then I realised that I had not copied MW3 + CS:S from my steam library over, and because I have a capped internet ( 20GB ) I can't afford to redownload these two games. I backed up my hard drive to a Portable hardrive and am looking for the two specific steam files so I can just copy and paste it over, however their are apparently 469 inside the back up so..

Is their any quicker way to do this apart from opening every 469 zip files and looking inside?

^ Thats what my portable hard drives backup folder looks like.

Just formatted a laptop, reinstalled windows7 and all of the drivers.

My laptop is an Acer Aspire 7738G-6006.

Here's the problem: To get the volume slider on the keyboard to work, I need to install Launch Manager. I found the download on the website and extracted it. When I run setup.exe though, absolutely nothing happens. It doesn't even show up for a split second in task manager.

I tried the same file on another computer and it ran just fine. I installed .Net framework as well as the C++ Runtime Distributable. No change. I've tried to run in compatibility as well as an administrator. I also tried Dependency Walker, it had this to say:

I tried downloading the new IE, no change, even tried DLing the DLL and putting it in the folder and that had no change either.

I NEED to get this program to install... any ideas?

We currently block all our users from running .exe files on our network. However, we now have encrypted USB sticks, which to allow access a small .exe file needs to run.

Does anyone know how I can allow this 1 file to run, but keep the block on all other .exe files?

Can this be done through GP? If so, how?

We are running XP workstations, on a Win Svr 2003 domain.

A:Allow users to run a specific .exe file

You need to talk to your IT person. Per our rules state we can't help with bypassing restrictions that have been placed on the PC.

I am having trouble with windows 7 because I am trying specific words from US English to UK English (E.G. "appearance and personalization").

C:\Windows\System32\en-US (Shell32.dll.mui)

Now, because of the windows checksum. It will not allot me to successfully edit it without it reversing the changes.

I'm trying to teach my Windows to learn proper English.

I have been trying to use WfpReplace but the server to download seems to be down.

Is there anyway to do this in a more simplified way?

A:Help on disabling WFP For specific file?

You could disable WFP but it would be for all files, your system would not automatically replace damaged, missing or corrupt system files. I think your PC would be in a mess very soon.

I don't care for US Enclish (Can't even spell it !) either, but I've had to get used to it over the years.

A long time ago I was messing around with various processes and services in Win7 x64, and one thing I did and promptly forgot about was that I renamed the avg cache server file AVGCHSVA.EXE to a different filename, to prevent this process from loading.

Now, months later, I'd like to re-enable AVG's cache server process, but simply renaming the file back to the original name, and checking the appropriate box in AVG's settings, gives me an error message.

Unless the filename itself has changed in newer versions, I suspect my problem is that my AVG installation (overall) is now version, and the version of the AVGCHSVA.EXE file I have is a much older version.

If anyone knows an easy way to get version of AVGCHSVA.EXE, please post here or PM me. Perhaps some kind soul could even email a copy to me. Thanks!

A:Request for specific AVG file

Couldn't you just d/l AVG and run the installer? Suspect it will give you a repair option. If not, you can overwrite your version. A Guy

since two days i am trying to copy a exe file from a usb stick to my machine.

i tried everything... completely disabled uac, logged on as "superadmin", gave all permissions that i could think of.... but still..

the strange thing is that explorer does not even display the icon correctly. it shows only the "generic" exe icon.

everytime i try to copy the file windows tells me that i do not have the permission to make changes to the file.

- the file is not broken, nor is the usb stick. i tried it on another win7 machine and it works just fine.
- tried to copy it on D: drive too... same problem.
- zipped the file. copied the zipped file successfully to the drive but when unzipping it the folder is empty without an error message.
- turned off defender and AV.... just in case it thinks it's a bad file.

well, i never had this problem before. any ideas?

edit: i forgot to mention that this file on the usb is in the same folder with several other files which i can copy without any problems.

A:cannot copy specific file from usb

What's the extension?
If you can copy the other files in the same folder, can you just copy the folder to your desktop and take "ownership"?

I think you need to register that dll you downloaded. Try regsvr32.
