I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It appears the hinge assembly for my PC has begun to push the case apart, as the top is aluminum and the bottom is plastic, This problem is getting unreasonable. I looked online to see if there was some fix and immediatly found that the problem is pervasive, I'm hoping that there is a way to repair this, because I don't want the case to come completely apart. But, I don't want it to get damaged further, I have always used this PC and it just has out of the blue Started popping apart in the back where the aluminum comes in contact with the hinges. Hopefully even though I am out of the warrenty by about a year there is some fix to this problem, because I have an HP home computer that has worked perfectly for years, while this laptop in less than 2 years the case just starts popping apart. I am about to enroll in college and need a working laptop. So if there is any way to easily fix this please tell me, and If it is fixable at all If any additional information is needed please just ask. I found a picture Of somone with the exact same hinge problem with the back of the case, having the exact same effect on my pc

The left Hinge is pulling the upper portion of my wife's computer off , as the very heavy touchscreen applied too much torque to the notebook case . I have read in the forums that is is a very common issue with this model. My il-laws bought the same computer for my wife and her brother, and the same thing has happened to both computers. Is there any way this can be fixed? I have seen in the forums than many other people have this same problem, but I have not seen anyone post anything about any solutions to it. Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.

A:HP Envy Touchsmart Notebook M7 J010 Left Hinge problem

As you said this is a common problem with HP Envy's. I pulled apart my laptop to replace the fan in it and having the same problem as you j decided to take a look at it. What it was was a broken Skrew Hole (Sorry I'm having a mind blank) but where the skrew connects to the motherboard has been broken. This is a small peice of plastic. There is no real way of fixing this however there is actually a skrew right beside that one. Apart from when your moving the screen and the look of it, it woint damage your computer and nothing will come falling off it e.g screen, surround. I'm sorry but that's all the information/advice I can offer

This morning, I picked up my laptop to get started with my work day, and was greeted with what sounded like a bit of plastic bouncing around inside my fan (quite disconcerting).  When I took a closer look, it seemed that the casing around the left hinge of the screen had started to break apart and separate, which is where I imagine that piece of plastic in the fan originated. I can squeeze the casing back together, but it only lasts for a couple minutes before reseparating.Unfortunately, my laptop is outside the warranty provided, but I did see numerous similar complaints in this and other forums, so I was wondering a) why this known hinge issue wasn't a part of any recall, and b) what I can do to get it resolved? Being outside the warranty is obviously a bit disappointing, but is there perhaps a kit I can purchase to repair the issue myself before it gets worse, or am I out of luck, essentially? I'll attach a couple images in a moment to illustrate the issue.

Hi,

I've included all the files you have asked for to diagnose the problem.

The laptop had Windows 7 Home, but then I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) three days ago (through Windows Anytime Upgrade) thinking it would eliminate the BsOD. It hasn't. This began happening recently, but now it happens frequently. I have not installed any new programs when this problem began. My version of Windows Ultimate is a full retail version I purchased.

I purchased this laptop from my brother, but it shouldn't be more than a year old.

Thank you for your help,
Myers

You have three glaring problems

Your Avast , old drivers, and Zone Alarm (NETIO.sys).
I would remove avast and replace with Microsoft security essentials and the win 7 firewall. Remove Zone alarm.

The most recent crash was probably caused by an interaction between ZAP and Avast.

I don't see any minidump file in the one you just post. Please go to C:Window and make sure that the minidump folder is there with .dmp file in it. You might want to check if you have set system to create minidump file.

Quote:
Windows 7:
Go to Start and type in "sysdm.cpl" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Startup and Recovery Settings button
Ensure that "Automatically restart" is unchecked
Under the Write Debugging Information header select "Small memory dump (64 kB)" in the dropdown box
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as "%systemroot%\Minidump" (without the quotes)
Click OK twice to exit the dialogs, then reboot for the changes to take effect.

Are you using any program such as CCleaner..? Are you sure it is BSODs?

I had bought the said laptop in October 2015 and was delivered to me by first week of November. After 1 year of normal personal usage, the right bottom of the back cover cracked open during closing. There were no prior accidents of any kind to warrant damage to the laptop. Disappointed, when I further checked with the internet, I came across complaints from numerous HP customers who had the same issue due to faulty hinges. On contacting the authorized service center, I was informed that the hinges come in pairs and hence can only be replaced in pairs and would set us back by 6K (without service charges included). This is a serious lapse of quality on HP's behalf as some of these issues date back to almost 8 years. The fact that a well reputed company like HP have done nothing to rectify this widespread issue is truly disappointing and disheartening. Even the recall for hinge issues in 2009 seems to have solved the issue. It is time that we took this issue more seriously. I do not understand why we should go through duress because of a manufacturing defect. I hope they seriously improve their built quality. you can read similiar customer experiences in the links below https://www.amazon.com/forum/laptop?cdForum=Fx2G99T61XZXSS7&cdSort=newest&cdThread=Tx17F1C95ICEWUAhttp://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Envy-m6-Broken-hinge/td-p/33...http://hphinges.blogspot.in/2011/06/tell-me-your-hp-hinge-stories.html

HP ENVY TouchSmart 17 Notebook  EOK95UA I also have the broken hinge problem. I bought this laptop because my daughter had one and loved it. I love mine too, but not the hinge. My daughter's hinge broke while hers was still under warranty, so she told me to be extra careful with mine. It has never left this table and I am always VERY careful opening and closing it. Even so, my hinge has also broken and has also cracked the bottom cover. I hold it all together when opening it.  I'm wondering if HP will still fix this for me, seeing as it is clearly evident that it is a design problem. Why should I have to replace a perfectly good laptop just because HP has a problem?   I hope someone at HP will read this and get back to me. I have had and still have several HP products. I was always pleased with their quality. This hinge problem seems to be widespread. A definate design problem. I hope I can maintain my faith in HP and they can help me with a repair.

I purchased a dv7 brand new a while back and I love it, only problem is the internal hinge which allows the screen to open and close has completely failed, and is broken.  As i mentioned the hinge is internal, and covered from sight by the bezel and display enclosure.  Then one day as i opened up my  the screen enclosure/bezel made a popping noise and started to separate on the left side, sounds of plastic snapping etc.  I look inside and see the issue, and its obviously not a good one. This may have been a design flaw, since i've read others post about the exact same issue.  Or perhaps I just was unlucky and got a lemon for a hinge.  Either way I cannon open/close my screen and my laptop is now a desktop sadly.   Here are some pictures for reference.  As you see this internal metal hinge which is quite thin, just snapped under normal operation conditions.  The laptop was never dropped, or anything else, and I'd happily provide more photos to prove this.  I'm really hoping HP will stand behind their product and help me out with this. For the record this is my third HP computer, and i've been happy with all of them.  This was the only real issue i've ever come across.  Just hoping I can get some help here.  Thanks in advance guys and gals!

It seems that there is a quality issue with hinges on the notebook computers.  My husband and I both have HP envy 17 and the hinges are crumbling.  Pieces are breaking off and some are falling into the computers.  My fan started making noise and had error issues related. Took computer apart to clean out small pieces of the hinge.  Working again but still crumbling. Our family has 5 notebook computers and all were HP.  Breaking hinges has now happened to 4 out of the 5 notebooks. Other than this issue we have been happy with HP but this is a big enough issue our HP loyalty is at stake. Our computers are not in warranty anymore but this seems to be a quality build issue.  Is HP doing anything to fix this? What can I do to extend the life of my notebook?  Can you send replacement hinges (even offer at low cost)  and a video upload on how to fix? Will you stand behind your product?

As with many other posts both here and on other sites, I have a significant problem with the left hinge on my Envy Notebook M6 purchased 8-21-2015 - only 19 months ago.  As with many other posts, the hinge is broken - unfortunately in Feb 2016 I had a friend (a Best Buy technician) fix the problem - - at least I thought.  Now, the hinge is broken again, but this time the computer will no longer boot when turned on.  It starts to boot, then within about 30 seconds it shuts down.  I took the laptop to a local computer repair store and the tech knew right away about the hinge problem as they had seen many others before this.  Estimate to fix was $250, but the tech said it will probably break again.  He was not very complimentary about HP laptops.  I paid a substantial amount of money for this laptop and it appears there is either a design or manufacturig issue.  IMishandling and wear-and-tear are not a factor.  The hinge broke about 6 months after purchase - was fixed - but broke again.  This should constitute a failure within the warranty period.  Even without this, the manufacturing defect should be convered by HP.   I've had the laptop less than 2 years and already it is a paperweight.  I would ask HP to stand behind their product and own up to the defect and fix my laptop.  I will continue to press my issue in as many ways as possible.

This is on the left hinge right now but it looks like the right one is going to go that way too. When I open up the lid, the front and back halves of the screen assembly sort of twist away from each other and that movement generates a worrisome cracking sound.  The displacement reduces to almost zero if I open with my thumb/finger on the left side of the lid. I've opened up quite a few notebooks over the years, but this one does not have a plastic bezel around the housing, nor any places with concealed screws like underneat rubber bumpers. So is there some "exploded view" of the lid assembly where I can figure out how to open this thing up and re-connect/re-snap/reinforce/tighten screws? to correct this? I think that just gluing the two plastic pieces goes more to the symptom than the real problem. HP Product Number:J9H11UAR#ABAOS:Windows 10 HomeVersion 1511OS Build 10586.164Processor:AMD A8-6410 APU with AMD Radeon R5 Graphics 2.00 GHzInstalled RAM:8.00 GB (6.96 GB usable)System Type:64-bit operating system, x64-based processorPen and touch:Touch support with 10 touch points Thanks!

My HP ENVY m6 notebook left hinge broke within one year of purchase and it has gradually progressed into the base of the laptop. As this issue happened within one year of my laptop purchase, I was eligible for the warranty coverage. Since I was overseas at that time, HP service centers in Indian refused to help me out with this issue. Now over the time, this issue has bigger and the dislocated hinge has not started to break this base of the laptop and the screen continuously has a bright line. I have been extremely careful with handling my laptop and it has not fallen ever. This issue seems to be common with lot of other people also and I believe that this is manufacturing defect. I am really disappointed in the kind of product and service that I have received from HP. I just can not afford to go for a costly repair or a new laptop due to financial constraints. At this moment, I really don?t know what to do!

We have the HP 15 Notebook PC and the hinge cracked on this device also making the entire frame come apart.  We cannot lose it correctly either. Is there a case we can buy to fix this?

Hinge failure, left side at on/off switch and system fan.  Internal plastic components that receive the hinge screws have failed.  Apparently, the plastic cannot repeatedly sustain the forces created by the tight hinge and its screws.  Plastic chips loose in the $700 product.  Product is just shy of three years old.  Not under warranty. It is clear from this forum and other sources that HP is aware of hinge failures at least as far back as 2009.  Why would you continue to sell the suspect design?  What equitable resolution is available? Temp solution has a screwdriver inserted thru the lock port into hinge end to resist hinge movement when closing the screen.  Otherwise, it is quite an ugly scene as you are well aware. In addition, I have recently twice experienced HP printhead issues that were resolved equitably, but the HP grind is getting quite old. Thank you for your time and expert assistance.
