Q: Solved: Creating fonts in Photoshop or any other image editing software

I've heard that you can make fonts in Photoshop but I haven't been able to find any tutorials online. Is there anyone who knows how to do it? Also, I'm using paint.net as my image editor for now because my HD is packed. If anyone knows how to create fonts with Paint.net or photoshop please post.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I work almost exclusively with .png and .jpg images and the only thing I do with them is to make the backgounds transparent. Can anyone recommend a software program that can do this easily? I was wondering about Adobe Essentials - does anyone have any experience with it as far as making and image transparent. I have used the newer Paint Shop Pro software and it is totally impossible as far as I can see.

Any help would be appreciated.

Real Title: Change you default image editing software (right-click -> edit)

I've done some digging (due to this Right Click Context Menus post) and have found the exact registry key needed to change the default application that is run when you right-click an image file and select Edit. Regardsless of the 'Default' application for each file type, mspaint stays ar the default right-click->edit application.

Open up regedit (type "regedit" in the start menu search box) and navigate to

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\shell\edit\command

Change the default to the location of the executable file of your image editing software:

e.g. "c:\program files\adobe\photoshopCS4\photoshopCS4.exe" "%1"

NOTE: You need to encase the text in quotes ("") & add "%1" in order for your chosen piece of software to open the file you have selected.

Now, when you right-click and select Edit, your newly chosen application will run.

A:Change your default image editing software

this was/is the case even when the file ext was/is associated with another program? seems as tho in XP atleast, when installing office 07 and the microsoft imaging program, that then became the default if i recall correctly. Since then i dont install it, didnt use or like it.

what is the difference with choosing "edit" and having the selected default program a choice, rather than just using the "open with" and choosing from a menu of select installed applications that handle that extension? Not shunning your hard work, just a curious cat.

I am trying to learn how to edit and retouch photos. I am finding it a very tough thing to do. I used to paint and draw and even published in newspapers and magazine, so I was quite confident of my abilities to make the computer do what I want. I am not able to do much. I am not sure how to crop photos. I cannot seem to correct colors and especially skin tones. I can see something is not right, but I cannot make correctit. Usually, I am just undoing the numerous changes that I make. I am wondering if it is not me but the software I am using. What should I do? Should I just worth through the softwares I have right now? Is Adob'es PS indispensible? I would rather not dispense with the high cost of it. Which of the softwares I have is something I should plough on?
Thanks for your suggestions and time

Photoshop isn’t necessary. But you are going to have to get something that has lots of tutorials online so you can start getting ideas of how to proceed. IMO that leaves Elements and Paint Shop Pro.

Most Photoshop tutorials can be easily adapted to Elements and there are more Photoshop tutorials than for anything else. Elements is stunted to a degree to keep a market for the full Photoshop. But I don’t think you will encounter too many limitations.

Paint Shop Pro is a more complete program but it is harder to adapt Photoshop tutorials. There are plenty of PSP tutorials though.

I’ve used Photoshop since version 3 and feel comfortable with it. I still have to consult tutorials occasionally. If I couldn’t continue in Photoshop for some reason I would transition to Paint Shop Pro. It has features missing in programs like Elements I couldn’t do without.

Cropping is very easy with either program. You put the dimensions you want for the final crop in the boxes and it constrains the crop to that proportion. In the meantime you might try this little freeware: http://ekot.dk/programmer/JPEGCrops/

You can pick up completely legal copies of either PSP or Elements on Ebay for $30. Be careful that they are Adobe or Corel CDs and that you can register them. The latest version of Elements is 5 and for PSP is XI.

There is also some good freeware but there aren’t as many tutorials. Gimp is a bear to learn but there is a GUI ca... Read more

Does anyone know if it is possible to backup the drive or create an image of the drive for security purposes? Are there any particular drive backup/image software packages I should check out?

Also, I know when I log onto my computer, the data in unencrypted. When I shut it down, the data is again encrypted. Will the backed up data be encrypted too?

Any suggesting on what i could maybe download for free or up to $20 from Cakewalk or Magix. All i want is something basic. I did pick up something called Midi studio (Magix) at best buy for $10 a few years ago after XP was released but this software i'm assuming was copywrited in 2001 before the release of xp. the system requirements for this software are as follows:

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 95, 98, 2000. Computer: Pentium with 200Mhz minimum, 32 MB (64 MB) minimum, 100 MB free disk space minimum, resolution 800 x 600 with 16 bit High-Color 16 bit sound card, CD-ROM drive. Microsoft mouse or compatible, DirectX 6.1

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can see a pattern between the software that works and doesn't work on my Windows 7 64 bit laptop.

In the past month (Jan-Feb 2011) a lot of the software I use to edit or display images and graphics will no longer run (crashes). System: Windows 7 64 bit SP1. 3 GB RAM, 500 GB HD Acer 6492 laptop with mobile intel 965 express graphics card. Windows Update reports it is up to date.

I don't get BSOD, just that when I start one of the affected programs, it fails to run and shuts down.Windows continues to run fine. I either get "___ has encountered a problem and needs to close" or "___ has stopped working, Windows is searching for a solutio to the problem".

Programs that won't run:
Google Earth neither Directx nor GL
PhotoPlus X4
Paintshop Pro X3
Xara Designer Pro 6

Programs that run fine
Picasa
PanoramaPlus
PanoramaStudio
SmartDraw
World Wind

I wonder what is the pattern or common denominator.

Symptom started roughly when I installed a new 500 GB drive (Seagate Momentus XT with 4GB RAM buffer 7200 RPM) in place of the 500 GB non-hybrid 5400 RPM drive. This is the 4th drive I've had in this laptop 160GB -> 320 GB -> 500 GB -> 500 GB with 4 GB buffer. Each time I had a Norton Ghost image of the C: drive, installed the new drive and restored the image to the C: drive. Windows fires up without a hitch. Seems you did everything you could, however, have you run (full scan) of your anti-virus and malware software. Not sure if it would help, but it cannot hurt. Also you might attempt reinstalling the last HDD to see if there isn't a problem there. If not then it would be wise to attempt to reformat the 500 to see if that is the problem. Good Luck.

I have a client that's asking me for support in modifying scanned documents using the HP Imaging software.

They have an inkjet all-in-one that scans the documents beautifully, however, I cannot seem to find a few key options; then again I had only a few minutes to tinker with it until I had another appointment.

The main features that I'm looking for, are the ability to scan the document into .TIF format as they need to be able to upload the document into their company's imaging system that accepts only PDF and TIF format.

They also need the ability to make modifications to the document. Erasing certain lines and using a text-input tool to add new information.

Finally, the ability to combine multiple documents into one file would be very beneficial.

I've had great luck doing this with PaperPort combined with the Brother MFC units I use and support. I'm surprised at the inability to easily locate these functions in the HP suite.

Any recommendations would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hello,

I need help finding Video editing software compatible with Vista/Win7 that can do the following:

- Remove watermarks from videos.
- Put your own created watermark on a video
- Blur out faces
- Cut parts of the video image
- Edit and draw on the video, replacing the cut piece with a still image, or even another piece of a video

So I guess basically I'm looking for all-out video editing.

I'd prefer freeware. But anything will do if that's all available.

It's no problem if I have to use different programs for each thing.

My current system is a Dell XPS 430 and can handle video editing pretty well.

Thanks!!

I don't think you will get any help here to remove someone elses watermark from a video that doesn't belong to you. The watermark is put there to discourage copying. Helping you I believe would be against forum rules.

Hi skizik,and welcome to TSF

You can use a (**FREE**) program, such as IRFANVIEW to enlarge (resample actually) a photo, but the quality of the image may suffer, especially if the image is of low resolution to begin with.

http:/www.irfanview.com

In irfanview the shortcut to resize/resample is 'CTRL-R' and then choose the new size you want. As a professional photographer, I use this free program often to REDUCE the size of images to email them to clients, as it can do 'batch' resizing of a selected group or even a whole folder full of files! It is a great tool for those who don't want their files altered by Windows Photo Gallery, which actually CHANGES a file, such as when you rotate it while viewing. Irfanview 'auto-rotates' the file based upon EXIF information (if available within the file) to the proper viewing orientation without actually changing the original file.

It looks like you can't do much with mov (quicktime) files. You have to convert them to a mpeg or avi. There's tons of stuff out there for that. I havn't used any of it personally so I'd rather not suggest a program that may or may not screw up your system. It'll have to be pick and choose on that end. Do a google search for "convert mov mpeg" or "convert mov avi"

Once you have it in those formats your choices for video editing are open much wider. http://www.videohelp.com should have anything your looking for. Shop around.

Hi all,

I need some simple (im not experienced in video editing) software, easy to use etc. Needs to be free as I will be using it occasionally at work and they won't pay for any ... typical, and with no watermarks.

Will be used on Windows XP SP3 machine, only for cutting together simple video clips and maybe putting a title / overlay on at times, nothing too fancy.

Have read alot about Windows Movie Maker 2.1 (as its for XP) but can't seem to find a download for it. Can't find it specifically on MS Downloads (can find add ons for it, but not the main program). Any other sites I try want to install their own downloader which I neither want or need and our 'internet police' would probably stop it from connecting anyway.

Any thoughts on other software and where to get it, or where to get WMM2.1 easily etc.

Thanks in advance
**EDIT: Ignore the bit about WMM2.1, although our IT guys told me it is removed as standard it still appears to be on my machine as I have just found it in Windows Explorer! Still interested if anyone has any other / better suggestions though.

Hi all!

Recently I replaced the hard drive of my laptop (IBM Thinkpad R60). After I installed Windows XP PRo and all the needed software, I created a backup image of the hard drive with Norton Ghost 14, so that I make sure that the next time I need to format/replace my disk it will only take me 20 mins instead of two days... After I created the image I thought it would be a good idea to check if the image is ok by applying it back to the hard drive. Of course when I set the restore job I made sure that the hard drive will be set active for booting OS. After the restore finished, I tried to boot but that failed. The windows logo screen never shows up, and I end up with a flashing DOS curson, without any indication from the hard drive that it reads something...and it stays there for ever...Has anyone come across a similar problem and if yes, is there a solution to it? I did find Windows Movie Maker 2 for my laptop, and it is great, but my laptop is slow and if I try higher quality captures, there's lots of frame drops.

My computer is Windows 2000 pro (I'm waiting for XP 64-bit, not in a hurry). What would be a decent, beginner-to-intermediate type video editing software package? I'll probably want to make movies and burn them to DVD and CD soon, but right now I'm just trying to find software (even free, for this) that will allow me to capture video from my camcorder and save it as a file on my computer, in different formats - suitable for local viewing, or suitable for posting on the web (not streaming).

thanks for your help!

I have two digital image file on my pc. 1st is my photo. 2nd is a building photo. How do i "cut" out my picture and transfer it over to the 2nd picture with having all the unevenness on the outline of my own photo's cutout? Is there a turn-around or maybe a good site that explores that more advance editting methods of photoshop?

Any help is appreciated.
Thank you
