Dell SupportAssist - says driver updates are installed but still showing need to be installed after refresh?

Q: Dell SupportAssist - says driver updates are installed but still showing need to be installed after refresh?

XPS13 with Windows 10. See screen shot below. Dell Support Assist program says the two driver updates are recommended. clicking "install" it shows progress to install, then says installed, but on refresh or re-entry to the program it still shows them as needing to be installed. No errors generated. Other driver updates done the same way without issue. Suggestions?

Preferred Solution: Dell SupportAssist - says driver updates are installed but still showing need to be installed after refresh?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Dell SupportAssist - says driver updates are installed but still showing need to be installed after refresh?

Don't use Dell Support assist with windows 10. Windows 10 will install generic drivers if Dell doesn't have win 10 drivers. You should mention the full model name of the computer. Does Dell support your model for upgrading to win 10? If so, get the win 10 drivers from Dell Drivers and Downloads.

This is my first post, so please be understanding.
When I run Dell System Detect on my XPS 13 9360 it tells me there are two downloads available, Chipset: Intel Management Engine Components Installer and Chipset: Intel Chipset Device Software Driver.
I have on a number of occasioins installed these components and received the messages:
Installation complete Restart required 2 drivers downloaded and installed successfully. I have installed them from a browser and by downloading to a local drive and running the install from there.
The O/S is Win10 64 bit and I run the install as a local admin.
Any ideas why it presents the S/W every time I run System Detect?
Thanks in advance,

I made a mistake and allowed Dell to install some SupportAssist components today.  I have seen quite a few errors created for the Dell Software, (SARemediation) but nothing like this... They all happened this morning between 12:56:22 and 12:56:29.
I am posting this in case someone at Dell may need to know... 1568 errors in 7 minutes seems like a lot.
The error says:

I recently installed a new 1TB Hard Drive into my Dell Vostro 230. I re-installed Windows 7 64 bit and everything went well besides I can't get the Ethernet port to work. When I run diagnostics on it it comes back to "Install Driver for your network adapter". It doesn't appear the driver for adapter is installed and I've tried to install ones from Dells support site, but that hasn't worked. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello, I would be grateful if anyone can help with this query.

On 1 June 2013 I took my pc back to Factory Settings and did a clean install of Windows installing all the relevant important updates for Vista. My pc is now up-to-date but one thing puzzles me. My list of installed updates lists a significant number of updates installed in 2008. (Two installed on 21/01/2008 and 39 from 21/10/2008). I would have expected that all updates listed would have an installation date on or after 1 June 2013.

I would be grateful if someone could explain this for me.

A:Why do my installed updates list updates installed prior to date of clean install

One important question, when did you buy the computer?
Was it after the installation date that shows, now?

This morning I saw the latest Windows 7 updates on an old computer I have (A VM running in XCP-NG) to run an old version of Confluence Wiki but that's not really important.
After installing the updates and rebooting the VM is so slow that it looks frozen at times. I restarted it in safe mode to remove the updates but when I access the Windows Updates list from Programs and Features it shows "No updates installed."
Has anyone else seen something like this? I have backups of this VM so I'm working to restore from a backup and before you ask, I know - I have to update that Win7 machine to a more recent version of Windows.
Thanks in advance and best regards.

Hey all,

I am trying to uninstall IE10.  When I go to control panel, program and features, installed updates, the Microsoft Windows section does not show up.  The only sections I can see are Adobe Reader XI, Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile (10),
Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended (7), and Microsoft Office Home and Business 2010 (36).  I have no idea why it isn't showing the Microsoft Windows section, but any help would be great appreciated.

PS - I am an admin on the system.  I also took it off the domain and logged in as a local admin.  Same results.

I've always used windows movie maker to make videos using clips that I take from a point and shoot camera. The files are .AVI and .MTS. I've never had problems before. Then I installed the latest window update which "upgraded" to a "better" version of movie maker.

Since the update, I get little yellow error signs in my video clips (different clips every time - not like just one is defective) and it says I must remove the defective videos before I can save the movie to a DVD. When I click on help, it says there is a problem with the codecs. On a seperate similar note - I am not able to open photos that were shot in RAW and the computer won't let me download the codec for RAW! All this codec crap happened after the windows update!

PLEASE HELP! I want my videos and pictures of my baby!! What codecs are needed? How do I get them? AARRGG!

Hi all,
I'm interested in your strategies for getting updates for your Dell laptops.
When I got my XPS 15, I subscribed to the Technical Updates service, to receive emails about updates.
That was before I realised my laptop came with the Dell Update application, which advises me of updates via notifications.
I was a bit uncomfortable having two sources of updates. Am I wasting bandwidth downloading the same update twice? Am I overwriting a newer update from one source with an older update from the other source? etc
And I've recently had the SupportAssist 'plugin' installed. Lo and behold, it's Drivers and Downloads section is also suggesting updates.
Do I need all three of these?
I'm tempted to unsubscribe from the emails, uninstall SupportAssist, and just rely on Dell Update. Am I going to miss any important updates if I do this?
Thanks for your help.

Recently, I received updates from microsoft which updated my graphics driver.  Since then, it causes my screen to turn sideways and I can't use the comptuer without going into the device manger and uninstalling it.  This will change periodically while using my computer and its very frustrating.  For days now HP had been saying they are updating their websites for support with drivers and software, now that message has gone away but my system no longer shows updates for windows 10 OS.  How can I get new/correct updated drivers for my system? I've been on Windows 10 since the free upgrade and had no problems til now and there used to be online support via HP Drivers for Windows 10.  Now there isn't any, will this be updated soon for my model? Is there a list of hotfixes that are required to be installed prior to installing SP1?

I am trying to slipstream SP1 into an installation DVD for Windows 7. It works fine, however, after I installed my newly created DVD, I found an update that said "You must install this patch before you install SP1. If you have already installed SP1, please uninstall it, reinstall this patch, then reinstall SP1." Obviously I want to integrate that patch before I slipstream SP1.

Is there a list of patches that need to be applied before SP1 is applied?

I recently installed Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for my Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit edition. As the installation finished the computer restarted and I did not give it another thought. Later on I returned to the Windows Update screen to see if there were any recent updates available for my PC. To my surprise all the older updates that I previously installed before the service pack installation have reappeared. My question now is, Do I reinstall the older updates? and Will they overwrite any files that the Service Pack 1 installation has already installed?

A:Win 7 SP1 Installed, Previously Installed Updates Reappear

If they are already installed and the new updates overwrite, it is not going to cause a problem. The worst that could happen is that you will be up to date.

Hello all.

I have a Windows XP machine that keeps telling me that I need to install 2 security updates.

KB956572 and KB981852. The problem is that these updates are already installed and appear in my Add/Remove Programs. So I go ahead and install the updates again anyway. The machine says the updates installed successfully. However after a system reboot, the same 2 updates pop up again saying that they need to be installed.

I have removed/uninstalled the updates in question. Re-installed them. No success. They still come up as needing to be installed. I have tried re-registering the windows updates components and have cleared the temporary folders of windows update but still the same result.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas? Thanks.

A:Dell dell inspiron - No USB driver installed

To make sure your Going from SATA to USB, if so, then are you using the USB with + or power port.  Depending on the motherboard.  (had the same issue in the E Series Dells)    Also, SATA does not provide power on its own, it needs to be plugged in, or you need to plug the two cables into two usb ports
the cable for it could be One connector, and two on the other side.  The main cable is the data+power, the other is the extra Power.  USB gives Max 3.3V, SATA usually need 5 or 12V to work.
If all else fails pull your CD drive and connect to that if you can.

Yesterday I installed critical/needed Windows XP updates that had been waiting on me for a few weeks behind the yellow update shield in the lower right corner of my screen. I was having problems connecting my son’s new Christmas present, Xbox Live , to the internet so I was about to restart the computer to see if maybe the router needed me to do a clean reboot after entering the Xbox’s MAC address into my allowed devices list. I stupidly thought I’d be thorough by installing those waiting updates first and then restart. All went well and when it finished and asked if I wanted to restart now I selected yes. Nothing happened. I kept trying, still no restart. Then I went to Start>Turn Off>Restart several times and each time I returned to my desktop with nothing happening. Finally I just did a cold shutdown with the power button. My son is, understandably, so upset that he can’t use his present to connect with his friends live.
Now my computer won’t boot up at all past the Dell splash screen. The typical churning, lights and sounds all begin and then when the Dell logo screen appears, everything goes quiet. It took me several times before I could get into my BIOS, select boot order to start with my CD, place my XP install disc into my drive and restart. Still, I can’t get past that screen and it never boots from the CD. (the CD light does go steady at “power on” like it always does but then goes off at that splash screen along with everything else. Hi there

I don't think this is a driver problem per se; I think it's Windows. Every now and then my WiFi stops working, and if I go to dev mgr, the General tab tells me that "No drivers are installed for this device" for device status. On the other tabs, however, I have all the details on the installed driver, and if I ask Windows to update the driver, it tells me that the best driver is already installed. The problem is solved by rebooting, but I find that annoying. I'd like to figure out WHY it does that. I've saved earlier versions of that particular driver from over the last three years, and the problem occurs with all of the drivers. This is a Win7 Ultimate 64-bit system. The driver is an Intel driver; the one installed at this moment (it just happened again, and I have not rebooted, since I had a powerline enet outlet handy), and the version of the Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN is 14.3.1. I have other versions of that driver saved, from to 15.1.1_Ds64. I had reverted to the 14.3.1 because the more recent versions seemed to be worse about the driver disabling itself or whatever it is doing. Coincidentally with this, the event viewer shows that mmc.exe was terminated because it was hanging. I had just run sfc yesterday, and there are no corrupt files that Windows cannot fix, and there weren't even any corrupt files that it DID fix.

Here's what I've tried and the results.

I've installed each RAM stick individually and the both work.
The 2x512 were running dual channel. When I installed the 2x1GB sticks the BIOS woud read 1GB installed in slot A and nothing installed in slot B.

So I installed one 1gb stick in slot A and one 512 in slot b and now the BIOS reads that I have 1.5 GB RAM and system reads the same.

So I know that both RAM sticks work and they both work individually, but when I put the in at the same time they do not work together...

Why? How can I get both to work at the same time? I've updated my BIOS to latest version and ran memory check and it says all is fine.

I tried searching the forums, since I think I have seen this asked b4, but I couldn't find it.

Thanx for your help in advance, since I always get a response! )

OK, I'm sure most of you looked here b/c of the whole 4Gb+ on a 32-bit OS thing. But I think I might have a real issue.

I have a Dell Precision T3500, with a Xeon 2.53Ghz and dual 512Mb Video cards for 4 monitors. There is 4Gb installed and I've booted with each stick alone and it shows 2.00Gb each time. Install both and still only shows 2Gb. BIOS shows 4, Dell diagnostic tests all pass. DXDIAG shows 2,096Kb, Crucial's memory scanner shows 2x2Gb physically installed.

I figured running XP 32-bit it would at least show the 3.1-3.6Gb available. But 2.00?? Doesn't make sense

I have 3GB of ram installed on my system, however, in task manager + dxdiag, it will only say 1gb.

Im running 32 bit, but the limitation is with 4gb+, not 3gb.

When I run msinfo32, it shows "Total Physical Memory: 3072mb"

So, 2 things say 1gb, and 1 says 3gb.

How can I fix this problem.

A:3GB ram installed, only showing as 1gb

Well, if its your BIOS than it should have nothing to do with your operating system. I would say the latter is right, since Windows x64 accepts the full capacity of ram.

Until the October 2014 updates I would always receive a sytray notice of which updates had been installed. To clarify, after new Windows Updates were installed and with or without a reboot of the system, I would receive a systray notification that new updates had been installed and upon clicking that notification a window would open and show the updates that had been installed and success or failure status.

I no longer receive that notification. This was true for the October and November patch Tuesday updates. I can open Windows Update and select View Update History and see that the updates were installed but the systray notification only showed the latest installation history and was more convenient that having to open Windows Update to view the update history.

Anyone have any idea as to what caused the systray notification to stop working after updates were installed? OS is Win 7 Home Premium SP 1.

TIA for any replies.

A:No systray notice of installed updates after Windows Updates

Should I post this in the Windows 7 General Discussion forum? Doesn't seem to be much response here.

Hi everyone. this is my first ever post here, so bear with me plz. I have a dell inspiron 530, with 4 gb ram installed, but the computer says i only have 2.75 usable. Is this right? i am running 64x windows home premium, with nvidia geforce gt 240 video card. the card has over 1gb of its own memory, so its shouldn't be taking from the system, right?

any thoughts or help would be much appreciated. i would really like to use the rest of my ram.

btw, right now, this second, the task manager shows 1767 cached, and 1801 available. that number is over 2814, the amount it says i have usable.

A:4gb installed only showing 2.75 usable? is this right? what can i do?

Check your BIOS for a "Memory Remap" option, if it has it make sure its enabled.
The usable memory may be less than the installed memory on Windows 7-based computers

When I check my BIOS it shows that all 3 of my drives are ok, but when I go to My Computer, it only shows my C: drive. How do I get xp to recognize the two HardDrives that I just put in? I also tried going to (i forgot what it was called) and it shows "device working properly" How can I get to my Hard Drives??

A:Hardrives installed, XP is not showing them

Have you formatted them? They won't show up in Windows Explorere or My Computer until you do. You can see if they show up in the Disk Management (accessed from Control Panel (classic view) / Administrative tools / Computer Management) and format them from there.

I have a HP Pavillon dv6-3040us running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. It came with 4 megs of RAM (2 2gig sticks) so I went to the Crucial website, ran their system scanner and bought the recommended 2 4gig sticks. I installed them and it doesn't show that I have 8gigs, it still shows 4gigs. Not sure what to do now.
