I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I don't quite know which forum to post in so I'll start here.

Has anyone ever have trouble signing a VBA project on Access 2000?
(I'm using Office 2000 premium.)

I've done the following:
1) installed digital signature in Office Tools
2) generated my certificate using Selfcert
3) oened my Access DB and went into the VB editor
4) opened the Tools> menu

Result: No "Digital Signature" selection was available. in the Tools menu

Looked in VB editors in Excel and Word…
"Digital Signature" *was* right there in the "Tools" menu.
Just not in Access.

In Access, went to:
View >Toolbars>Customize…>Commands>Tools
and whaddaya know… There's "Digital Signature" right there!

BUT guess what? I can't drag in onto any tool bar or open menu.

Does anyone know what's going on or has this happened to them?
I looked in Office/Access Q&A forum on the MSDN website and actually found similar posts but the only suggestions were to try the things I've already listed above.

I searched the MS knowledge base but found no pertinent answers. The Office on-line help gives little/no help for digital signatures.

Ideas? Answers?

Hiya

SQL Server 2000 introduces the ability to host multiple instances of
SQL Server on a single physical machine. Each instance operates for
all intents and purposes as though it was a separate server. However,
the multiple instances cannot all use the standard SQL Server session
port (TCP 1433). While the default instance listens on TCP port 1433,
named instances listen on any port assigned to them. The SQL Server
Resolution Service, which operates on UDP port 1434, provides a way
for clients to query for the appropriate network endpoints to use for
a particular SQL Server instance.

There are three security vulnerabilities here. The first two are
buffer overruns. By sending a carefully crafted packet to the
Resolution Service, an attacker could cause portions of system memory
(the heap in one case, the stack in the other) to be overwritten.
Overwriting it with random data would likely result in the failure of
the SQL Server service; overwriting it with carefully selected data
could allow the attacker to run code in the security context of the
SQL Server service.

The third vulnerability is a denial of service vulnerability. SQL
uses a keep-alive mechanism to distinguish between active and passive
instances. It is possible to create a keep-alive packet that, when
sent to the Resolution Service, will cause SQL Server 2000 to respond
with the same information. An attacker who created such a packet,
spoofed the source address so that it appeared to come from a one SQL

This patch eliminates two newly discovered vulnerabilities affecting
SQL Server 2000 and MSDE 2000:

- A buffer overrun vulnerability that occurs in several Database
Consistency Checkers (DBCCs) that ship as part of SQL Server 2000.
DBCCs are command console utilities that allow maintenance and
other operations to be performed on a SQL Server. While many of
these are executable only by sysadmin, some are executable by
members of the db_owner and db_ddladmin roles as well. In the most
serious case, exploiting this vulnerability would enable an
attacker to run code in the context of the SQL Server service,
thereby giving the attacker complete control over all databases
on the server.

- A SQL injection vulnerability that occurs in two stored
procedures used in database replication. One of these can only be
run by users who have been assigned the db_owner role; the other,
due to a permissions error, could be run by any user who could log
onto the server interactively. Exploiting the vulnerability could
enable an attacker to run operating system commands on the server,
but is subject to significant mitigating factors as discussed
below.

The Internet Mail Connector (IMC) enables Microsoft Exchange Server
to communicate with other mail servers via SMTP. When the IMC
receives an SMTP extended Hello (EHLO) protocol command from a
connecting SMTP server, it responds by sending a status reply that
starts with the following:
250-<Exchange server ID>Hello<Connecting server ID>

Where:
<Exchange server ID> is the fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) of
the Exchange server <Connecting server ID> is either the FQDN or
the IP address of the server that initiated the connection.

The FQDN would be used if the Exchange5.5 IMC is able to resolve
this information through a reverse DNS lookup; the IP address
would be used if a reverse DNS lookup was not possible or failed
to resolve the connecting servers IP address.

A security vulnerability results because of an unchecked buffer

It is important to note that the attacker could not simply send

Hiya

This is a cumulative patch that includes the functionality of all
previously released patches for SQL Server 7.0, SQL Server 2000, MSDE
1.0, and MSDE 2000. In addition, it eliminates three newly discovered
vulnerabilities.

- Named Pipe Hijacking -
Upon system startup, SQL Server creates and listens on a specific
named pipe for incoming connections to the server. A named pipe is a
specifically named one-way or two-way channel for communication
between a pipe server and one or more pipe clients. The named pipe is
checked for verification of which connection attempts can log on to
the system running SQL Server to execute queries against data that is
stored on the server.

A flaw exists in the checking method for the named pipe that could
allow an attacker local to the system running SQL Server to hijack
(gain control of) the named pipe during another client's
authenticated logon password. This would allow the attacker to gain
control of the named pipe at the same permission level as the user
who is attempting to connect. If the user who is attempting to
connect remotely has a higher level of permissions than the attacker,
the attacker will assume those rights when the named pipe is
compromised.

- Named Pipe Denial of Service -
In the same named pipes scenario that is mentioned in the "Named Pipe
Hijacking" section of this bulletin, it is possible for an
unauthenticated user who is local to the intranet to send a very
large packet to a specific named pip... Read more

Maggie:

Install the cumulative update for IE7 and the update for Microsoft NET Framework 3.5.

You don't need to install IE8, unless you want to upgrade from IE7.

You apparently already have Microsoft Silverlight installed, which is why an update for it is posted. Uninstall it in Add Or Remove Programs. You don't need it, and it's known to be problematic and to conflict with Adobe Flash Player.

I don't know why you're being prompted to install Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. It may be needed because of some program you have installed.

The Malicious Software Removal Tool is released every month. Go ahead and download it and let it run.

After splitting a task in Project, is it possible to set a relationship with one part of the split task or must you link the entire task?

A:MS Project 2000 question

What do you mean by "splitting a task?" Do you mean breaking it into subtasks? If so, yes, you can (and should, generally) set up you dependencies (I think that's what you mean by "relationships") to the subtasks. You can still set up dependencies between parent tasks, but generally it just confuses the issue and can lead to circular dependency relationships.

Hiya

Not sure if this is the correct forum. If not, please move. Thanks

Microsoft Metadirectory Services (MMS) is a centralized metadirectory
service that provides connectivity, management, and interoperability
functions to help unify fragmented directory and database
environments. It enables enterprises to link together disparate data
repositories such as Exchange directory, Active Directory,
third-party directory services, and proprietary databases, for the
purpose of ensuring that the data in each is consistent, accurate,
and can be centrally managed.

A flaw exists that could enable an unprivileged user to access and
manipulate data within MMS that should, by design, only be
accessible to MMS administrators. Specifically, it is possible for
an unprivileged user to connect to the MMS data repository via an
LDAP client in such a way as to bypass certain security checks.
This could enable an attacker to modify data within the MMS data
repository, either for the purpose of changing the MMS
configuration or replicating bogus data to the other data
repositories.

Microsoft temporarily suspends Windows 10 preview build availability ahead of RTM

Quote:

The Windows 10 RTM (release to manufacturing) milestone is close at hand.

On July 13, Microsoft temporarily suspended availability of Windows 10 for PC preview builds in preparation for the upgrade process, which commences July 29.

"Windows Insiders have been the first to see our work on Windows 10 at every stage. Now you will also be the first to get a build flighted to you using the channels that we'll use for targeting and deploying to PCs for our staged rollout," said Gabe Aul, head of the Windows 10 Insider program in a July 13 update to a previous blog post.

More from Aul:"We're suspending the availability of Windows 10 builds briefly while we prepare for that (rollout), and the next build that we flight to you will be delivered using the production channels. Starting tomorrow (July 14), we will also not be delivering any additional ISOs at this point as we really need Insiders to be using, stressing, and validating our distribution and upgrade processes. We'll make ISOs available again in the future, but for now we ask you to upgrade your current build via Windows Update once the next build is released."

Hey people!

I've got a curly issue that I need some external input with! Any ideas would be great and very much appreciated!

ISSUE:
Has only just started happening (the last 2 weeks or so) where if OL2003 is open, PROJ2000 will appear (the window and splash) but then disappear just as quickly. HOWEVER, if PROJ is opened first, then OL, PROJ remains open and works fine. There is no issue with any other Office application.

TROUBLESHOOTING:
Uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2003 x 2
Uninstalled and reinstalled Project 2000 x 2
Uninstalled EmailXtender (mail archiving addin for OL) - uninstalled this as it starts caching when OL is open.

PC SPECS
Hardware Type: Notebook
PC Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
PC Model: TECRA M5
RAM: 1024 MB
CPU Speed: 1662 MHz
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Service Pack: Service Pack 2
SOE Version: RIS 1.3.4

THINGS LEFT TO TRY:
Rebuild the laptop - old SOE image.

It's just bizarre that Project runs fine when opened first, but not after Outlook has been opened. Has anyone heard of this issue before? Or come across it? Any ideas? Anything else to try??

Thanks people!

A while back I fixed his problem by changing the file from *.mpp to *.mpd then back to *.mpp again. This reduced the file size and stayed realistic.

The problem has started again with about 5 or 6 other Project files, all around the 7MB size but have very little in them. I have tried the above procedure to no avail.

Can you advise please,

Thanks in advance,

Jez

Turns out there was a corrupt image file within the problem project files. Removed and replaced with another one and files maintain minimal sizing.

simple question here....i'm new w/ WIN 2000

How do you find out how much rescource is left or is being used?

I know how to find out in WIN98se by alternate click "My Computer" and click on "Performance" tab.

thanks

A:Finding out Resource level for Win 2000

There's a nifty lil graph thing in the Task Manager.

Ctrl + Alt + Del and choose Task Manager, and choose the Performance tab. It doesn't really give a percent number of resources available... but many other numbers!

Without warning, trying to access Microsoft Word 2000 on my Win98SE PC, attempt failed and hung up the machine. When I tried Ctrl-alt-del, nothing happened. Turned off machine manually and just before it shut off, I got "Resources dangerously low" message. Reboot. Same result. Reloaded Word from CD. Same result. Repaired from CD. Same result.
Uninstalled Word. Installed Word from CD. Same result. Everything else works ok. Just Word. Any clues. I appreciate your help

A:MSWord 2000 resource dangerously low

The first thing to try is this:

start/search/Files and Folders:
search for file "normal.dot" (without quotes)
when you find the file, delete all instances of it.

try and get into word after this and see what happens.

Hi, Y'all...

I'm running XP Pro SP2 on my desktop at home. Home built, 4 years old, AMD Duron processor. Recently (for last couple of days), any time I try to search, my entire system hangs. I checked the Microsoft articles, and found this, which I have seen cited in other threads here but include below.

On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows Server 2003, the Explorer.exe process may experience an error in Rkadmin.dll and unexpectedly quit. To work around this problem, uninstall the Microsoft Windows 2000 Resource Kit. (link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900004/en-us)

Unfortunately, I don't see the W2K Resource Kit in Add/Remove Programs, and if I try to search for the file, well...then I have to Crtl+Alt+Del to get to Task Manager to end task on the explorer window and end process on drwtsn32.exe (if I only end one or the other, it still hangs).

I've been poking around for two days now, because I'm sure the answer is on the very next post I read or article I check, but I leave for vacation in two days, and I need my files!

Please advise. How do I uninstall the Windows 2000 Resource Kit?

I did recently run CCleaner for the registry, but I have the back-up saved in case I need to restore.

Thanks for all the help - y'all have never let me down...

Source: http://www.neowin.net/news/microsofts-anti-malware-team-to-have-new-adware-rules-july-1

When people surf the Internet on their web browsers, it's just a matter of time when they hit a page that has an online ad which then tries to install something on their computer. This week, the Microsoft Malware Protection Center team announced it will have some new criteria to define when such activity crosses over into the annoying. and sometimes malicious, adware side.

Pop-up online ads have to have a working close window, according to Microsoft's new adware policies.

In a blog post, Microsoft stated that online ads start to cross over into adware territory if they run programs on a user's PC and create "notifications promoting goods or services in programs other than itself." If that occurs, Microsoft states there must be a clear way to close such an ad, like a prominent "X" or a close button in, for example, pop-up ads.

Ads that show messages such as "Your PC performance is poor" must also clearly mention they are ads and not suggest they are in fact warnings generated by a PC, under the new rules. Finally, if a program is installed via an online ad on a computer, there must be a clear way to uninstall it. Also, the name of the program in the uninstall listing must exactly match the name that's shown in the ad.

The new adware policies will go into effect on July 1, in order to give online ad companies time to change the... Read more

A:Windows 2000 Resource Kit Tool : Setspn.exe: May 15

Do you have any good tips on running SU.exe from the resource kit? I'm having a hell of a time and I read all the help files on trying to run it. I used the correct syntax like in the examples but no luck.

Any suggestions or good test commands to make it run? In the end I am hoping to make a program run under another user without having to enter in a password all the time.

I have Microsoft Project 98 and an older version (4.0). Project 98 is an upgrade so requires that I either have and older version installed or that I provide proof. Well here's the kicker....4.0 is on floppy and all I now have is disk 1 and my new laptop doesn't have a floppy drive. I've tried putting the floppy in a networked floppy drive but the installation claims it doesn't see the files. I also copied the files to my hard drive in a folder as well as to a CD. Nothing is working. Can you help me get past this?

Thanks

A:Microsoft Project 98

Man, this is a glitch! New PCs w/o floppy drives may be a pain for a lot of folks in similar situations.

Seems you have tried every logical approach...and that you'd need a full install of version 4.0 to do the ugrade. Any way you can find the other floppies for 4.0, do an install, and then go from there?

I'm interested to hear if there is some work around for this...academic, really, but interesting problem.

OS: WIN2K SP3

IE 6 with all updates loaded

I know this sounds weird, but I have a user that is
getting IE script errors when trying to use the help
files. It happens when they try and open the Project Map
section. The HTML help file opens just fine, but when
they move the cursor over the window, the script errors
start. They are from IE, blue text and red text errors.
The funny thing is that I can run the help files under the
Administrator profile with no problem whatsoever. Any
advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
