Lenovo Y50-70 Update Tool

Q: Lenovo Y50-70 Update Tool

How can I get the Lenovo update tool to work properly? I've asked it to scan my system a number of times and says everything is up to date but then I find the updated drives (that I don't have) on the Lenovo site or on some other third party site. Is there some way to actually make this work or does someone have a suggestion for a program that actually does as advertised?

Preferred Solution: Lenovo Y50-70 Update Tool

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

The subject pretty much explains it. I'm running Windows Education 10, Fall Creators Update, on the Yoga 720, 15" w/ the Nvidia GPU. "Tool for Lenovo System Update" is always there in the task manager, and the fan runs frequently. Any idea how I can make it stop taking so many resources and generating excess heat / killing battery?

Win 7 64 Windows Update not working (post migration), nor is Windows Update Readiness tool installing. I have renamed catroot and stopped services, nothing working. I just migrated HD to a hybrid solid state (Seagate Momentus). I had this problem both with Acronis 2009 and Acronis 2013, and Windows Backup would not create a recoverable partition (always said file not available about 30% through the recovery). I have installed the Intel IDE ATA drivers, and scoured the help topics. I have tried everything. I could really use some help.

The error I receive when attempting to install the Windows Update Readiness Tool is:

"Installer encountered an error: 0xc8000247"

The Microsoft FixIt and Control Panel FixIt says it has fixed the problem, but Update does not work. Nothing is working, but the OS is healthy, the disk is healthy. The sfc/scannow doesn't reveal any corrupted components.

I followed all of these instructions before attempting to install the Windows Update Readiness Tool:

Windows Update Service and Windows Module Installer Service are the two basic services responsible for all your updates to install correctly.

If Windows Updates are failing, then my first step would be to check if these two services are running.

Hi there, I've seen many forum topics relating to the pressure sensitivity on Paint Tool Sai when using a Lenovo Helix.I too am struggling with the issue. It's not only the pressure sensitivity that doesn't seem to work, but pinch to zoom and other tablet functions don't seem to either - I'm making the assumption that Paint Tool can't recognise that I'm using a tablet. I've tried every piece of advice on here and Google - although most advice seems to be regarding Wacom sensitivity which doesn't really help me. I've tried changing the settings within Paint Tool and also downloading the most recent Wintab drivers as well, restarting the laptop without the stylo in the hole etc. But nothing seems to work. I have emailed Systemax to see if they can help, but I'm really not sure what there support will be like. I was just wondering whether anyone knows anything else I can try?

So I tried to download a copy of drivers for my Yoga 920, then I noticed the link for recovery media. I tried to download it using the steps and the tool. I'm using the laptop on a table and I did not touch the usb during operation. I tried to do the process again, but I get an error as seen in the screenshot. Any help? Tips? to get the thing working again Alternatively, if I don't trust the reset option on the laptop, can I just download a Windows 10 ISO with microsoft's tool and use that to reformat the laptop without inputting a key? Will my device still be activated after the process?

A:Failed to Create Recovery Media with Lenovo tool

Hi svrndmngjr,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
The Yoga 920 does not have a special factory recovery partition like One Key Recovery like on other machine.
It uses the same Windows reset features just like all other Windows 10 machines as shown in chapter 3 of the users manual here.
A clean installation using a downloaded ISO (same version of Windows that the machine came with) would automatically activate it. OEM product keys are embedded on the systemboard (Win8 and Win10) unlike having a COA sticker that Windows XP and Win7 does.
You can follow the guideline here. With the drivers and applications, if you have additional copies from the D drive then just copy it or download it from here (support website). Other applications are in the Microsoft Store just type Lenovo in the search to download if you need it.
Your device would still be activated after the process.
Hope this help answer your query.

I have a new laptop with Windows XP SP2 on it, IE6 (though I use Firefox, not IE), and MS Office 2003 Student Edition. The latest update that popped up as "high priority" from Windows Update is this GDI+ Detection Tool (KB873374).

It sounds like you have to install it then run it and then visit MS Office website to check for updates...? Is this worth doing? Can it cause more problems than it will help? (I thought I've read about issues when updating MS Office with security patches...? And that you have to download yet something else to even check for Office security updates...?)

Or do Office security updates come through Windows Update, and I don't need to worry about this? (But if that's the case, then why even have this GDI+ thing available?)

I'm always worried about ending up with a bunch of conflicts with other programs like AVG, ZA, AutoGK, DVDShrink, etc. And I'm always hesitant to install something that has to run on my system.

I've got AVG and ZA, keep both up to date, and I have Automatic Updates turned on just to let me know when there's a critical update (so I don't have to visit the Windows Update site to get updates).

I was thinking I would only do the updates to Office that come through Automatic Updates and not worry about any others...

Also, what's the difference between Microsoft Update and Windows Update? Is it better to have Microsoft Update, or does that have its own set of problems associated with it? (A... Read more

A:Questions About Microsoft Gdi+ Detection Tool & Microsoft Update Vs. Windows Update

Well to start off the difference between windows update and microsoft update is as follows. Windows update is what originally comes with the computer and only updates the windows platform. If you choose to upgrade to the microsoft update it will check all of your microsoft programs for updates.
As far as going to the office website for updates... unless you want to install non-critical updates to your office suite then you shouldn't have to at all. Finally - that GDI+ detection tool is the little program microsoft uses to scan your computer for any of their products - that is if you use microsoft update and not the original windows update.
So if you like your computer to maintain critical updates by itself for the microsoft programs than yes use microsoft update and yes install the GDI+ decection tools.

Hope this helps you out!

A:Windows Product Key Update Tool

Sorry to hear of your predicament.

First, I'd have a little chat with the person who installed the "not genuine" copy of XP. If it was something you paid for, you should either get a refund or a reinstall (including CD) with a copy that can be registered.

Failing that, you might be able to buy a replacement CD directly from Microsoft. As long as you still have a valid key and can convince them that your original purchase (pre-reformatting) was legitimate and registered to you, they'll probably send you a CD for a fairly minimal amount.

If that doesn't work, it sounds as though purchasing the Windows Genuine Advantage Kit would be your best bet. I'd imagine it wouldn't cost as much as buying a brand new copy of XP. Also check to see if you can get a CD with the kit.

Hope this helps a bit. Good luck!

I thought this might help people who are having problems updating Vista.

Here`s a discription of what it does :

This article describes the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista-based computers and for Windows Server 2008-based computers. Microsoft released the System Update Readiness Tool to resolve certain conditions that could cause installing updates and other software not to work. You do not have to manually run this tool. This tool is offered automatically through Windows Update to computers that have a condition that the tool could resolve.
Update information

After you download the System Update Readiness Tool, it runs a onetime scan for inconsistencies that might prevent future servicing operations. This scan typically takes less than 15 minutes to run. However, the tool might take significantly longer on some computers. The Windows Update progress bar is not updated during the scan, and progress seems to stop at 60% complete for some time. This behavior is expected. The scan is still running and you should not cancel the update.

Hope this helps someone

How the heck do I run it????

A:System Update Readiness Tool

It has run when you install it. It creates two files called Checksur.log and Checksur.persist.log

If you look at the checksur.log file it will list all the sections that it has a problem with. For example on my system I have

Unavailable repair files:

this is where there are two directories missing that contain fix files inside the c:\windows\winsxs\ directory. Every time you click to install the KB (the way you run it) it will take the content of your current checksur.log file and copy it to the checksur.persist.log so you have a record of when it was run last and what it found wrong.

I'm trying to augment the HP USB 3-in-1 diagnostic tool, which also includes the ability to update the BIOS on any machine.  I've figured out that the .BIN file is the BIOS update file and to put it in the \Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New folder to allow machines to be updated.  However, when I tried to update a HP EliteBook 8540w, it didn't work, giving me an error message of "Signature file not found." Since I'm able to update other HP systems (dc7800, EliteDesk 800 G1, ProDesk 600 G1, etc.) by putting just the .BIN file on the USB drive and selecting the update BIOS option from the BIOS, I figure it would also work using the HP 3-in-1 diagnostic tool.  Apparently, the 3-in-1 tool uses some form of CRC check to validate the BIOS file first.  The problem is, I don't know for which file the tool is looking, so I'm stuck. Does anyone know the file structure of the BIOS section of the 3-in-1 diagnostic tool?  I need to know what files need to be put in what locations in order for the BIOS update function to work correctly.  Any help which is provided is greatly appreciated. Thanks,Timothy

Upgraded to WIN10 64bit. Problems: 1- I need to upgrade the BIOS but, even following the instructions, the system reboots without updating the BIOS I thought it was because I have the fingerprint swipe at boot, but  2- I can't remove it (not even from Bios menu) because I set  it with HP protect tools that now can't be opened with win 10 (incompatible). How can I remove the password (fingerprint validation) at boot, so that I can try again with the BIOS update? If I uninstall HP protect tool, will I be able to switch on my pc (will it still require the fingerprint or it will be helplessly stuck) ?

the one problen with driver update programs is that they all have different drivers and dates so you are relying on (especially a free site) them to give you the most current driver. I dont use them. had too many times it upgraded a driver to a bad one and didnt upgrade one that needed it

I am struggling to find this tool for Windows 7 x86.
I think I am just so tired. A link would be much appreciated.

Tomorrow I will start the Windows Update Posting Instructions process.
Should I post here? Or should I post a new thread?

I really need help. I have been at this for 3 days with no love.
I have tried every single thing I could find here and on Microsoft.

Thank you so much! Dawn
