Q: Photorec: "unable to create new folder...due to antivirus blocking write access"

Hi,We just deleted a part of a video by accident. We found the photorec and tried to recover the file. It all went well until we came to the step where it needed to save the recovered file to a certain folder. According to the discussion I found, it might be a good idea to run hjt. Here goes... (not sure if this is exactly what you need?)Would really appreciate the help! Preferred Solution: Photorec: "unable to create new folder...due to antivirus blocking write access"

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

We are looking for a solution to start properly manage users data on computers. Currently we have a situation where some users created folders on root of C: drive and store them data within these folders. We want to prevent users from creating new folders
on C: drive but they must have access to existing ones which they already created. This is a starting process as we think of folder redirection and roaming profiles.
We are thinking about using icacls (to set proper NTFS permissions) withing script and put this as startup script in GPO. There is a possibility that we have some programs in our organization which need to have write access to the root of C: drive - this
is our concern for now.
Any other solutions\methods good for this purpose?

I am unable to create a shortcut in the startup folder on my Dell Optiplex 780. Every time I try, I get the following error, "Windows cannot create a shortcut here. Do you want to place the shortcut on the desktop instead?" No I do not want it on the desktop, I want the program to start with Windows. I tried, dragging the shortcut to the startup folder, tried copying and pasting the shortcut into the folder, that only opens it with applications that are already in the startup folder. I tried dragging the exe and selecting "create shortcut here." none of which worked. All results that I found on Google that people said that worked. None of them worked for me. All the results were about 'all users/startup' but I am only dealing with my own user and dragging from folder in start menu to the startup folder which none of the results covered.

Any ideas?

A:Unable to create shortcuts in startup folder "cannot create shortcut"

Sylveon am not sure on this one but I know in 10 (I stand to be corrected) that one can add apps to run at start up - I don't know how to actually do because I always keep my start up items to the very minimum and have no need to do that. For the record the more you have running at start up will slow down the boot and do you really want thta??

Also I think when you load softwares a lot will ask if you want them to run at start up so without knowing what you want to add cannot comment on that.

I followed your steps to get rid of Paladin.

Everything is gone except, it is still blocking my access to the internet via all browsers.

Make admin available in normal mode.. even the admin is blocked for installing, deleting anything from the programs folder.
I'm lost.

A:Write access to program files folder

If you create a new administrator account in safe mode, are you able to write to the programs folder?
Edit: Is the OS XP Pro or XP Home?

This is an FYI,  I have resolved my problem but want to let others know the solution.

I have a Win 7 Professional, SP1 box that has a fileshare on a 2008 Enterprise server 64 bit SP2 where the user has been trying to create a folder.  Randomly she receives the "unable to create the folder "name of folder"  Too many files opened
for sharing".  This seems to be causing by the syncing utility for offline folders.  I have a fileshare on the 2008 server labled "share1" which has many folders and levels.  The allow offiline files on the fileshare was enabled and on the win7
box the fileshare was configured to synchronized.  Here is what I did to diagnose the issue.  I ran the program that creates the folder from the win7 box, then checked the UNC path from the win7 box to confirm folder is created, which it was.
I logged into the server and went to the mapped drive to that directory which the folder as not present (F5 did not show the folder)  From the server I typed the UNC path to the folder which did not exist.  Went to dos on the server to the layer
above the created folder and did a "dir" which did not show the newly created folder.  I then turned off the allow files to be available offline on the fileshare of the 2008 server.  Then I disable offline folders on the Win7 box.  After disabling
both of these the application is quickly creating the new ... Read more

Some folders in my computer are blocked as in i cannot modify their content only read them.
When accessing the security tab it shows that my user (which is suppose to be the only one on the computer) has limited access and some users which i consider bogus (they have names like S-347373-26262 etc.) have full access
Tried formatting they are still there
HELP, please

A:Bogus users blocking folder access

Hi americanu197, Welcome to 7Forums

First and foremost, don't mess with something that you don't understand
Even if you have created only one user in the system, many other users are created by Windows for different tasks and some folders are off limits for normal users.
Deleting the system generated users or playing with those folders can be quite dangerous.

Hope I was not too hard on you. We have seen quite a few users who do things like that and then complain that Windows doesn't work properly.

I've been unable to create a new folder in my documents file.  I click the "new folder" but it does nothing.  In the "add new" option there is no option for a new folder.
I am using Windows 7 on a PC.
I looked at the Help area but it doesn't provide any information since clicking "new folder" doesn't work.  I also did a search but the only information that I saw was to change things in my registry and I am not knowledgeable enough to do that.
Is there a simple fix for it?

A:Unable to create a new folder in documents

Are you seeing any other things that aren't quite right or is this the one and only problem? How old is the system and do you have the installation disk?

This seems to have happened recently on a friends system. It's a generic machine, probably two years newer than mine.

She went to google, selected a site, clicked on 'Bookmark' and then tried to create a new folder, but was unale to create a new folder. I also tried it with the same result. It will bookmark as the URL name appears, but I cannot either delete, or type over that name. This is in Firefox.

In IE 11, she does not have that problem - using FF version 44.0.2

Can you give the full filepath that you're trying to create a folder in?
I.E. C:\Users\Public\Documents

I can still create a new briefcase on the desktop.

I'm running Vista Home Premium 32bit service pack 2

Can anyone help?

My guess would be that there is some mixup in your registry. Here is some help on how to deal with this part of the registry. But before you modify the registry, take a restore point in case things go wrong.

Hello All,

I was trying to build my Java base maven project. Maven was trying to download some dependencies from the repository. So one of the folder it is trying to create was "org.apache.felix.scr" - Windows is not allowing the program to create
the folder with the name ending with ".scr".

Even I tried to create a folder with the name 1.scr in My Documents, it is not allowing me to create one. But If I use 1.scr.2 as the folder name, it allowed me to create one.

To me it sounds like an issue, can you please look into this as this is very urgent for me. I am using Windows 8.1 Enterprise Edition 64 bit edition.

Thanks in advance.

Kiran Edem

A:Unable to create a folder with the name ending .scr

Well you are trying to rename a folder that is in used.
Reboot and don's start anything and rename it.

Hardware: Original Setup
A8N32 SLI Deluxe Opteron 185
FDD = A:
HDD 1 WD Velociraptor = C: XP
HDD 2 Maxtor SATA = G: Win7
HDD 3 Maxtor PATA = F: Bootable Clone of C:

The machine was all set up on XP. I purchased and downloaded Win 7 32 bit Home Premium from Microsoft Store online and installed to G: using windows Boot manager to choose the OS. Worked great!

I had the bright idea of transferring Win7 to the Velociraptor as it?s so fast compared to the Maxtor.

Using Casper 4 I backed up C: to F: then copied the entire Win7 installation from HDD 2 to HDD 1 without rebooting before copying the clone back from HDD3 to HDD 2.

Boot manager screen comes upand I can go to the earlier version of windows (XP) on HDD 2 (now C: Drive) as before.

Trying to enter Win7 I get the error HAL macpi.dll missing or corrupt insert installation disk to repair your PC.

When I try to repair I cant get past the ?starting windows? splash screen.

I can?t even do a fresh install as I get the error 0x80070002 which is apparently something to do with cryptography?

Anyone point me in the right direction? I can explore the 7 from XP but that?s it. If possible I?d prefer to rescue it but if needs be I will reinstall. If I reinstall how do I get rid of the boot manager and how do I now get around the fact it spits out the installation disk?

A:Unable to create folder 0x80070002

Cant believe it was this simple
There was no way I could run the installation from either DVD or Mem stick without the above error. However in frustration I copied the W7 setup disc to the XP desktop and bingo, I can reinstall etc as before.

Can anyone explain why?

I can install other software from either media without problems

A:can i block a program to write access to a specific folder ?

This may sound stupid, but what happens if you just delete that \Video\ folder? Does it get recerated? If not, that may be the easy fix. If not, you can try changing permissions for that one folder.

Hello dear bleepingcomputer helpers. I registered here because you might be my last hope of ridding my computer from some nasty malware that has plagued me since a couple of hours ago. I'll try and explain the situation as detailed as I can.

In what it seems to be random time intervals I get several messages from my NOD32 antivirus, that it has blocked access to a site. This happens whenever my Opera browser is running, which is almost all of the time, since I use it to get all my RSS Feeds.

I noted down some of the addresses:
j00k877x.cc/... , n1mo661s6cx0.com/... and 30xc1cjh91.com/...

I ran an operating memory scan with NOD but nothing was detected. I googled around and read that I might be infected with a rootkit. Is this true? And if so... Help... Please?

P.S.: I noticed that this ALWAYS happens when I do a google search from the browser search engine. Additionally, although the page has obviously finished loading Opera displays the current status as: "Sending request to clients1.google.com..." or simply to www.google.com...

A:My antivirus keeps blocking access to sites I never try to visit. Including j00k877x.cc

Bump for getting desperate.... Sorry to bother.

Meanwhile I ran an In Depth Scan of my whole computer with nod and spybot S&D. Both didn't find anything.

I have Vista Home Premium installed on my laptop. I created a partition and mounted it to the Documents folder. Now I can only access the folder via C:\Users\myAccount folder, shortcuts in the Start menu and Links folder don't work. Their icons changed to white papers and nothing happens on double click on them. "Open" from the context menu also disappeared. I tried to create a new shortcut for the folder (right click - create a shortcut, drag-and-drop to the Links folder, right click - send to Desktop) - nothing works. I also created a shortcut for another folder, but as soon as I changed the path in its properties, it stopped working.
What is the problem here? The OS has just been installed, all the rest seems to be OK.

Hi All...

Not sure if I have come to the right forum for this question or not.???

I have a External PVR unit that is connected to our home Theatre system and we watch downloaded movies that are stored on it's hard-drive.. This box is also connected via UPNP and I can see ALL Drives attached to my laptop which is located upstairs in the study... All good so far.!!

I was able to, from the computer, map this drive (N Drive) and was able to copy the movies files directly to the hard-drive of the PVR.

Until recently, I was able to create new folders on the PVR hard-drive and then copy the files, but am no longer able to do so as I keep getting an error msg stating:

"Could not create new file N:\Movies\xxxxxx. The system cannot find the file specified"

I can however copy the movie files or any other files directly to the hard-drive (ANY FOLDER).. Just cannot create any new folders!!!! Which I was able to do previously.???

Does anyone know if there were any Microsoft Patches or anything else that might affect the way things are happening here.??

Would found some help in trying to figure this one out.!!

P.S. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x32 on a Toshiba Satellite Pro P300

A:Unable to Create Folder on Mapped Drive

Perhaps there is a folder limit imposed by the PVR? Have you tried deleting an existing folder, then creating another one?

on it, so I can't change those or take ownership, either.

I really need to fix this. Any ideas?

I would try a scan with MalwareBytes Antimalware. A couple of years ago I had something similar where I could not delete any files using Explorer. MBAM picked up the registry hack and fixed it.

The free version works just fine for scanning. A "Threat Scan" should be enough to pick if off if it's a Registry nuisance.

Here is what we have going on, and could really use some help. First, I am a begiiner (somewhat-maybe a hair above beginner). System is a Dell xps8300, running Windows 7. 16 gb ram.

I don't know if we have several issues, or one that is affecting us in several ways.

This computer, which we have had since June 2011, could never get a good installation of adobe flash 10. Not with IE9 32 bit or 64. It has also been far more prone to picking up viruses than the dell laptop we bought at the same time and running Windows 7 64 bit as well.

About 3 months ago we picked up the internet security 2012 virus, but following the instructions on this site, we were able to get it off and return to normal operation--except we still couldn't install adobe flash 10. Two days ago we picked up the virus that created multiple popups for a windows disk error alert, and again using information on this site, I thought I cleared that infection and was able to restore our start menu items and file folder items.

But ever since this last infection, we get redirects (randomly) that take us to sites like yellow pages, and a couple other seemingly random sites. We cannot open the adobe.com site at all...we can open any other site we want, not adobe.com Tonight I tried to connect with Dell support and they were going to remote in, but no matter how we tried to set the connection up, we could never establish a connection.

Because of all the problems we have had, we have purchased the p... Read more

I recently purchased a Samsung A920 cell phone for the purpose of the mp3 and expandable memory capacity. I also purchased an inexpensive USB SD card writer/reader, as well as a 512 Micro SD memory card. The writer/reader functions perfectly using a standard SD memory card, yet I can't seem to get the micro card in the SD adapter to function. Every time I attempt to explore the micro card, My Computer hangs up, or I have to use the Task Manager to end the process. If I attempt to drap and drop a file to the card, I get a "Disk is write protected" error, or even"Please insert disk into drive x." I have tried using a different memory card with no effect. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all,

Im not sure if anyone else has had this problem or noticed it, but I have enabled the GPO prevent users from adding files to the root of thier users files folder on our network as we use folder re-directs to my documents which in theory should keep everything tidy. This works up until a point, if I try and browse to the location and create a file I cant. If I try and drag a file into that location I cant, but as soon as I try to save as it lets me - any ideas why this would be?

A:Disable write access to personal folder (root location of user area)

It only affects Windows Explorer not applications using the win32 file APIs. Which is why it resides within the "Windows Explorer" group policy tree.
