I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I did a factor reset on my computer because i was having some issues, now when i go to start it up it will bring up a message saying something to the extent of not being able to start because it doesnt have windows on it. So my guess is that during the reset it deleted my windows 7 off the computer. I cannot even get to the sign in screen and i dont think my computer came with a restore disc, also i definatly dont want to pay another 200 dollars for a windows 7 disc. Also another thing against me is that my computer is a dvd r only it has not read a software disc that i put in it to download a game. Any ideas for a solution? all responses are well appreciated.

You fix this? Seems that when you do reset it also resets bios to Boot drive compatible. Change it back to AHCI.

Hi I had to do a factory reset on my friends Toshiba and now it wont update. My friend has a Toshiba Satellite Laptop which is a Windows 8.1 64 bit, 4 gig. The reason for a reset was do to constant freezing and video lagging. There were several things that were ocurring. I had done scans to make sure is was not a virus issue before doing a factory reset.

I have checked services to make sure it was turned on.

I tried to upload a snipit to show you the error but for some reason it wont let me download it Argh! It should have downloaded.

Here is the error code on the update page 8024A008

So basically my computer has ceased to function on the latest windows 10 update, 100% disk usage is occurring at all times leaving the computer inoperable and I've found that reverting it to factory settings and not updating fixes that. Well the other night I clicked on update and shut down accidentally rather than sleep. I immediately went to factory reset it again and it finished and put me at the setup screen, at that point my power went out. Upon turning the computer back on it came up with the screen That shows the windows logo and has a loading circle, let this "load" for about 2 hours before shutting the damn thing off and rebooting. It takes me back to the same screen where I proceed to give it 8 hours, finally it takes me to a screen that says administrator and has another loading circle, I have now been on this screen for an additional 8 hours. I have no Idea what to do at this point, I have tried to reinstall windows from a DVD and from a USB but for some reason it tells me to insert actual boot media, I have tried multiple different win 7 and 10 isos on dvds and usbs and none will work. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I fear this os is slowly taking my sanity. Thanks.

I had a virus or a bug on my comuter so I thought I would just factory reset it and would just get all my suff back over time because I won't lose much. But while it was reintalling windows 10, my power went out and when i turned it back on it would go throuh the booting process with ACER on the screen the just black for two days strait. Then I tried to Google a way to fix it and it told me to hit Shift and F10 to get to a menu and change a setting from 1 to 3. (Sorry, I actually don't remember what thing I changed.) Now I can't find what web site I went to and when I turn my computer on it boots up through the two ACER screens then a screen that says 64% donlowded pops up for a second or two then it restarts and it dose it all again.Thats the story behind it, and I was woundering if a new copy of windows would work or is my hard drive to messed up and I need a new one, or any other advise anyone has would be helpfull. Thank you for your time,AJ

My wife and daughter accidentally deleted my windows 8.1 partition along with all restore points on my hard drive. So after a long time with help from a mod on this website, it was decided a factory reset was in order. I did the factory reset, i loaded windows 8, I went ahead removing factory installed mcafee, when it came time to restart i did so. On the immediate boot up my system will not load. The screen goes between flashing light and dark black. Any ideas of what this could be? I am able to get into the BiOS screen but do not know what to select.

Yes, pulling the plug on any router should not erase any of its settings. You would have to use the reset switch to clear the settings or the option within the router menus to restore it to factory defaults.

A:system wont reset to factory. Says missing files.

Hi, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome ! I am afraid there is a bad news. The code shows that your Hard Disk Drive (HDD) has failed. This is a hardware problem - faulty Hard Disk drive (HDD). You will probably not be able to recovery your files (more to follow). I also see your warranty period has expired.  Your options:  If your computer is with warranty period expired, you will need to replace the faulty HDD - buy it on your own. There are variety of options - vendors you can choose from - you need 2.5 inches HDD SATA. You can get it online or from PC retail store.   How to replace the faulty HDD with new HDD or new SSD: please, find info and instruction in your computer's manual or watch YouTube videos examples for HP 2000 (example > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jioi3_g1x6E) . If you do not want to do this on your own, please bring the computer (or ship it) to HP Authorized Service Center where the technicians will do this for you. If you are not sure where such a center is located, check these or contact HP for assistance in finding the nearest one for you:>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00372730>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/store-finder/find.do?bs=SR4&type=authorized   Last part - once you replace the faulty component - you will need to reinstall back your operating system - Windows or another. ... Hi there! First post, so apologies for posting too much or too little information, but here goes!

I'm on a Dell XPS 420 running Windows Vista, Service Pack 2. Using Internet Explorer for the time being.

Here's the problem..

I've downloaded Google Chrome, it appears to be installed (it's in my control panel, registry etc). However when I click on the program to run it (from anywhere), nothing happens at all.

When I go to install it, this happens - I go to the google chrome browser website, hit download, it downloads fine, the 'run box' appears all ok. Everything goes as expected up to the 'installing' phase - The installer box runs for about 4-5 seconds, then dissapears completely. However (as I said above) Google Chrome then appears in my shortcuts/start menu etc. as if it has been installed correctly.

the only problem is that it wont open.

Here's what I've done from the start step by step -

- Did a factory reset of my PC yesterday.
- Updated Graphics Drivers
- Tried to install Chrome, problem occured. Thought it might be because I hadn't installed Windows Important Updates yet. So I uninstalled Chrome.
- Installed Windows Important Updates.
- Tried Chrome again, didn't work, uninstalled again.
- Disabled my virus checker and firewall, and windows defender. Chrome Still didn't work. I then uninstalled them completely, still didn't work.

Hi, My partner was going to sell her HP pavilion x2 Detachable, So i went on to do a factory reset, waited around 2 hours at it slowly ticking away then it said it had failed. Ever since then it got stuck in a continous HP loading screen to resert loop. Ive tried restarting, hitting esc and tried re-doing a reset but it continously fails, now it gets to a point which im able to log in to user, comes up with preparing windows, then just goes to a blank screen.

Enter the BIOS by pressing the power button and immediately tapping the F10 key. Change the system date to 01-20-2014 Press the F10 key again to save the change.  Try booting again from the recovery media.

Hi,I would perform a clean install of Windows 10. You can get a free copy directly from Microsoft by downloading media creation tool and running. You will need to do this on another computer and choose when you have launched media creation tool " To install on another PC". Create a bootable USB drive with the same edition of Windows 10 already installed on the computer which is not working. You will need 4GB pendrive.  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 You will need to change boot order in Bios and boot the PC from Pendrive and install Windows 10. I always prefer a clean install on my PCs. Windows 10 will automatically activate once installed and connected to internet.  Let me know if you need further help,David

A window keeps popping up saying I need to set it that way?? So I click it any way, and that's when a svchost starts to go through the roof.

Problem #2, that is mentioned about. This svchost, that points back to system 32. Once activated ( how ever it gets that way, other then what I mentioned above ) Then goes sky high, to the point I fear the computer will start to fly off my desktop. It's shot up as high as 1,500,000Ks, and even peaked up near 2,400,000 K while trying to update last night. So I finally just shut the computer down. Because I was afraid to leave it that way over night, or it might just fry my computer period.

Which leads to Problem 3, ( which is really problem one but ) where and how this all began. It all began with me being very unsatisfied with the way my computer was running. I was getting Problem 2, among others. But now compared to what I've seen happen since the reintsall? That same svchost was only rising to 400,00 & 560,000 before doing the reinstall. The computer wont update. I've had it running for 6 hours, all the time I've had to keep "ending process" on that svchost. Because those numbers and super high CPU & Memory #s also scare me.

Built my computer about 7 months ago, worked fine up until now.

My PC randomly freezes completely and suddenly. Task manager wont open and I have to reset it, however even after reset it takes forever to boot and it goes straight to the UEFI and not to Windows, even if I exit the UEFI it won't boot into Windows 8.1 until I shut it off completely then turn it back on. My M4 64g SSD (Windows Drive) doesn't show up in the boot menu but does in device manager/my computer, however this is not a new thing. (I suspected the SSD might be failing) The freezing started after having my computer off for 5 days (it's never been shut off for more than a day or two). I can think of no other unusual things I might have done or changed.

So far I have tried...

* Resetting the BIOS overclocks to "default" (they have been stable)

* Running memtest86 for a period of 5 hours with no errors.

* Running MSI Kombuster burn-in-test for about half an hour. (This was happening while playing Battlefield 4 (I thought it might be the game/GPU) but it happens even while watching VLC or browsing Firefox and Chrome on their own. (Didn't crash)

* Freeing up space in the Windows SSD. (It had less than 1GB, now it has 18GB and the problem still occurs.)

* Checked all temperatures of CPU/GPU/Drives/Mobo, nothing is overheating. Under GPU stress test.

It doesn't lag or give warnings it just locks up.

There were several large .tmp files taking up space (4 - 7gb) in my win... Read more

I had been having problems with my work PC for months. Very slow boot up, lagging during use, programs not responding etc...
Then worse issues started like the system restore not saving any restore points, not allowing me to manually create restore points...

I tried all the normal stuff.

Sfc Scan came up clean, Check disk came up clean, AVG and Malwarebytes scans were clean....

It seemed like the longer I left it on the better it ran, but anytime it restarted it got terrible again. Then about a week ago I tried to do another Check Disk, I scheduled it and restarted the PC as I was leaving for the day.
When I got in the next morning I checked the event log and no Check disk was on there. So I tried it again that day and the same thing happened.

Then yesterday it all blew up. I was on my PC it was mostly running ok, except for skype which would not properly connect. Since I need that program working to do my job I restarted the PC.

It would let me enter my password but then was stuck on the Welcome screen for about 30 minutes.
So I powered down and tried to boot into safe mode, and it did the same thing, stuck on the welcome screen.
So I powered down again and went into start up repair. Startup repair failed.

I used a command prompt to run check disk on C: and it only took about 30 seconds which I found odd but it said it came up clean. I also did it on DBackup) and it also took about 30 seconds and came up clean. Then I did it on EOS) and it was going extremely... Read more

Hi guys, I've got a strange one.

I have a Gateway netbook that blue screens out on booting. I checked the BIOS and it's set to achi, which is correct for Win7 (Starter).

The blue screen is abbreviated, and essentially says Stop: c0000145 Application error. Fail to initialize 0xc000005.

Safe Mode blue screened. The last file shown loaded was disk.sys.

I ran the recovery environment three times. I also ran SFC offline. It found corrupt files that it couldn't repair.

So finally I decided to do a factory reset using the recovery partition. It too blue screened.

That made me suspect hardware. I ran the short self test, the conveyance test and the extended self test on the drive. All passed. I'm now running memtest86. Almost done with Pass 2, no errors. I'll let it go all night, but this error is so blatant I would expect it to surface quickly - probably.

Next step is to restore from disks, or from an external image. That's for tomorrow. But I'm looking for thoughts on what might be going on. Thanks!

Have you tested the hard drive? Enter BIOS by tapping away at F10 immediately after powering on. Use Diagnostics to test hard drive.

My otherhalf has a Stream 11 on windows 10, it all started when the screen would just go black and freeze. The memory had about 500mb left and she said to clear the whole thing and start from scratch. So I tried doing a factory reset, chose not to keep personal files. It got to 62%  and said it had failed, now when I try to start it, it gets to the HP logo and thats as far as it goes. The screen goes off, comes back on, shows the HP logo then goes off again. I've tried the Factory reset, I've tried keeping personal files all to no avail. It came with windows 10 preloaded so I don't have a copy that  I can use. I've been trying to sort this for the last 5 days and I'm currently contemplating putting an angle grinder through. However, I don't think my good lady would appreciate me doing this, so I was wondering if anyone has any other ideas?? All help greatly appreciated

I have a Dell windows 7 Desktop PC. It was used and would only boot up in safe mode. After trying several things and failing I decided to try a factory reset. It went through the process but now when it boots up it says "preparing your computer for it's first use" then a C Prompt style window pops up and a list of files rolls up, then it says "Set up will continue after restart" then when it restarts its self it says "Preparing your computer for its first use" .. and it just repeats the whole process again and again. Any suggestions?

A:Win 7 Factory Reset Keeps Restarting - no boot

Hi there Mwilps,

May I ask, what is the model of that Dell desktop PC? Also, when you perform a factory reset, did you use the CDs that came with the Dell computer or did have and use your legitimate copy of Windows 7 CD?

A:Factory reset, windows 7 with no boot disk.

Hi,  Have you tried tapping away F11 key as soon as you power on laptop, and enter recovery console. From here you should be able to do factory reset if your recovery partition is intact or not corrupted. No other way I know of getting it back to factory configuration other than by ordering HP Recovery USB directly from HP support for a cost of ~$60If your laptop came with Windows 7 from factory and you can clearly read all 25 characters of product activation key from COA sticker, then you can try clean install of Windows 7 (with the same edition that came from factory), by following the suggestions from Paul here in this thread: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/want-windows-7-back/td-p/592555...You can download additional drivers from HP support pageRegardsVisruth

Hi all,

Long story short... I found it necessary to use the recovery disks I created for my dell inspiron 5010n, and reset to factory settings.

The recovery seemed to go well... Windows7 booted, and configured for 1st use. (Restarting a few times in the process). Windows then indicated it needed to restart after downloading 1 update.

When it restarted, windows failed to boot... instead the windows boot manager came up with the following msg:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance

Status: 0xc000000e

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.
So, I tried again, this time letting windows download all updates... same result.
So, I tried again, disabling auto update, and after getting everything working, restarted to the same msg.

I've now recovered again, updates disabled, (using it to type this), but know if I restart, the same issue will occur, and I'll have to recover again.

Does this have something to do with (edit) bcdedit?
Anyone have an idea what's going on, and how to fix this.
FYI... I don't have a windows7 installation disc. F2 options, Windows7 gives the same msg, and ... Read more

So my laptop has been buggy of late, very buggy. It's been working on this new major update that just came out, but it's weird while booting it'll work on this major update for an hour or two they display the message 'restoring to previous settings'....then a day later will start again and continue at the progress it had the day previous (if it stopped at like 30% the day before it'll resume there). It last stopped at 75% 2 or 3 days and hasn't resumed since. Any way, my laptop (toshiba) has been buggy awhile, and got even worst today like completely freezing, so i backed up all my important files and proceeded to a full reset (reset and don't save any files or aps, to be specific). It took about an hour and half to do the reset but at the end of "the reset has been complete but we could not delete all of the files, you may consider running another reset (which I did not)" and it reboots. It gets past the Toshiba loading screen with the swirling circle of dots then gets to the next black screen still with the same swirling dots which i assume is the point it's trying load windows and it stayed on that page for over 3 hours.....i figured something was going wrong as i doubt it should take that long. So I rebooted again twice to try to pull up that windows recovery thing again with the reset function I used earlier and THAT does not pull up anymore.....I loaded bios and switched to default setting (I knew it wouldn't d... Acer Aspire 5535 Vista Home Premium.

Hi, Really hope someone here can help me!!!

My laptop was working fine. I decided to do a factory reset to speed things up a little. All seemed fine until the 'Please wait while windows continues setting up your computer' screen. It stayed on this for around 6 hours. I thought there was something wrong so I restarted. It then boots up to the error that many people get when an installation has failed (The one asking you to restart and try again). I've tried this process many times both by from the hidden partition and 2 back up discs I made when I got the laptop around 2 or 3 years ago. I also left it over night, when I came to it it just had a blank screen and wouldn't do anything.

I've got hold of a recovery disk and checked for errors but it doesn't find any. Memory checks are fine. I've taken a RAM out 2 it only has 2GB in now. I don't have an original Vista disc as it didn't come with one. Just got the windows and app driver back up discs that I made when I got it.

How long should this process take? Any ideas what I can try next before taking to a repair shop?

A friend has a windows 7 disc, will there be repair utilities on that?

Any help is much appreciated!

Karl.

Please help. Recently, I decided to do a factory reset, to cleanly wipe my drive, with the exception of Windows. When the reset was about 30% through, the reset failed. Now, when I try and use my laptop, it only gets to the ASUS logo, then goes to a black screen with a flashing underscore symbol on the top left corner. I've tried doing F9, SHIFT+F9, and everything else in between. My laptop is an ASUS G74SX, and I don't have a recovery partition for the laptop. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. I also cannot get any external programs for the laptop, such as ISOs, etc.

See the comments in this thread. You will probably have to clean install Windows 10. I did a PC reset with Windows 10, it failed & now I have no OS at all

Hello, I need help with my Lenovo Y500 in which I bought about a year ago. My OS is Windows 10 and I decided to do a factory reset to wipe out my drive. While I selected that, it brought me to a black screen, so After a couple of minutes I turned it off and back on. After that, it just shows the Lenovo logo over and over and it won't stop. I tried F2 BIOS stuff and I keep getting no bootable device, and the two boot options are EFI Network 0 for IPv4 and IPv6. No other options work, and I'm sorry I'm not good with computers. I want to find a home fix because I currently don't have money to take it to the repair shop. I have attatched a photo here on my laptops information. Thank you guys so much!

Hi everyone Im new here & I really hope someone can help me.
Ive had an Acer laspire 4810TZ laptop since 2010 and one before that, unfortunetly Ive always had really bad problems with acer but i was stupid enough to buy it again the second time. the thing is I know quite a bit about laptops and fix basic - medium problems. but this issue has not only floored me, but also cost me alot.

I really hope someone can help..
Its says BOOTMNGR is missing and will not allow me to reset it to factory default by my cds or alt1+f10, it says image failed to copy a 1% before this it would go to 50% and say the exact same message...I just paid to get it fixed...and then i tried to wipe again to get my product key ( im really stupid and dont know why i thought that would happen it was to late to clcik back.. when i realsied this..litrelly went numb when i realsied what an idiotic mistake i made and for the engineer who supposedly fixed my laptop)
My laptop was really slow, and I had been avoiding having to completly wipe everything. i had only done it a few moths back and have never had aproblem with it. Something somewhere went really wrong as I tried taking the easy solution out- I ried to restore my laptop to an earlier point because when I update windows something always happens to my laptop, so tahts something I would definetely be avoiding. Yesterday I used my recovery disk to factory reset my laptop. The installation process was successful. After all files and hp softwares are installed into laptop it restarts. From that point it stuck on boot looping. While boot loop it not shows hp logo instead it shows only windows 8 logo.
Once again tried to boot using recovery disc to confirm the files are copied inside the hard drive using backup files option. All windows 8 files are there inside the c drive (refer Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet).
Need help to boot into Windows 8.
Product Name: Hp envy dv6 7206tx
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)
Thanks.

Was it running ok before you used recovery disc as it looks like you have overwritten the operation system of windows you had on there.
Have you tried factory reset which hopefully might find your windows what you had on there

I Bought a new desktop a few weeks ago and am resetting my G710 to factory settings to give to my brother.I went into the advanced settings and selected reset to factory settings and keep no files, all seemed to being fine until it tried to restart itself to finish the process.Issue; On Boot, i get the Lenovo Logo and a loading wheel for about 90 seconds thena blue screen citing an error exc000021a, and that my computer had an issue starting up, and that it needs to restart and then it does to the same end over and over.I have tried removing the battery and holding down the power button for 10 seconds then restarting it, spamming the F8 key to try and get into the boot settings, but to no avail.
