EliteBook 8560w will not charge battery

Q: EliteBook 8560w will not charge battery

I have a laptop that will not charge the battery with the AC Adapter. I have tried different combinations between two chargers and two batteries and I always have the same results. The only time it will charge is when I connect it to my docking station which is a Hewlett-Packard (HP) NZ222AA - HSTNN-I10X 120W Advanced Docking Station. The charger I have is an HP PA-1151-09HA TPC-LA52 Adapter. The second charger is from another laptop. That is also the charger used in the docking station. That is an HP PA-1231-66HJ. I have tried both of these chargers in my EliteBook 8570p and they were both able to charge that laptop. The laptop will run with the charger, without the battery. The only message the battery icon displays is "No battery detected". If I then attach the battery with the laptop still on, the message will change to "xx% and not charging. It will then run on battery power until it dies. At that point, it will turn off. If I followed the same scenario but unplugged it after attaching the battery, the message with change to "xx% and in use". If I try to plug it in after that, it will continue to say "xx% and in use". It will not change back to "xx% and not charging". If the laptop was started with the battery in and then I plug it in, it will always say "xx% and in use". If I start the laptop with a battery and the charger, it will say "xx% and in use". I have tried updating the bios to VERSION: F.28 because I found an article that was about "Battery in Low Charge State May Not Begin Charging". http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03585086 I have tried uninstalling the Battery drivers from the device manager and then scanning for hardware changes. When the battery was uninstalled, it was running off just the charger with no battery detected. When the driver reinstalled, it displayed "xx% and not charging". When I uninstalled Microsoft AC Adapter, it displayed "xx% and not charging". The difference for this is that it displayed the symbol that the AC Adapter was connected. This symbol went away after the driver reinstalled. I checked the warranty and it is two years out of date so that is not an option. What can I do to allow my EliteBook 8560w to charge the battery?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello.I own an elitebook 8560w since 2012.I had never ever used its battery, because actually i never needed to (I used it pretty much as a desktop). Yesterday,i bought a genuine hp-battery specific for my computer. And here is the problem that occured:While my computer is ON with the battery disconnected, when i connect the battery, the power switches from ac to battery like it should, but the battery is NOT charging. Moreover,i dont have the "plugged in,not charging" problem like most of other people in forum discussions, but right after the moment i insert the battery, the charger connected to my laptop is totally ignored!Like its not connected at all! As a result,if i disconnect the battery, the laptop power doesnt switch back to the charger, but shuts down ,as it doesnt "see" any power supply. Not only that, but even if it shuts down it will not start up,until i disconnect and re-connect the charger (maybe because it is still waiting to get power from battery which was disconnected and is not switching to the charger supply). Finally,i ran a battery test in hp connection manager and result was that battery is "OK". I have my laptop on dual boot (Windows-7-64 / Kali-linux ) and all these problems above apply to Kali as well, which leads me to the conclusion that it isnt a software problem. Also,i have to mention something important: After the original charger i had bought the laptop with, stopped working 3 years ago,i didnt buy the genuine, but a universal... Hey, I really hope you can help.A few days ago I realised that my battery was not charging. The laptop was plugged in and it showed on the laptop, although the battery level was not increasing (but not decreasing either). Now this morning, I realised the laptop was left unplugged and now my laptop won't turn back on , even when I have the the laptop plugged in. What should I do? Do I need a new battery? And if so how do I know this won't happen again? Hope to hear from you soon. Kind regards, Vincent

This afternoon I left my Elitebook open and running on the table and when I returned half an hour later the screen was black. I figured it had gone to sleep but when I moved my mouse nothing happened. I pushed the power button, still no response. Even after holding the power button for an extended period of time nothing happened, aside from the power led blinking for a couple of seconds. I've already tried removing the battery etc, but it didn't work. All help is appreciated.

I was thinking of upgrading the RAM in my Elitebook 8650w. I know the type of memory I need (DDR3 PC-10600 1333 Mhz) but I was wondering how many strips are build in already?I got the quad core version so my laptop has 4 slots, from which 2 are under the keyboard and I dont want to take the laptop apart. My laptop has 4 GB of RAM this moment. My question is, are there 2 strips of 2GB DDR3 RAM already installed or just 1 strip of 4 GB? Or is this something varying from factory to factory?

Yes, DDotDacherDash has a very good point to use the Support Assistant. Bur if you are like me, and you uninstalled all unnecessary software, you can also run the free Crucial memory scanner that will scan your PC and report the same info without installing any software. http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ Paul

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me diagnose this problem with my 8560W:It randomly hard locks up - ie the mouse/keyboard input stop and music playback freezes - about 10 seconds later the machine turns right off.  I haven't noticed any pattern to when it does it - sometimes it'll go for a week with no problems, other times it'll freeze before the windows sign-in screen. I've tried a fresh windows install (but have also seen the lockups in safe mode) so I don't think it's a bad driver issue. There is nothing meaningful in event viewerI suspected it might be an SSD failing - so tried another and had the same issues. I've seen the lockups on battery, and with both the power adapters I have - also on AC with the battery removed.I've run the built-in efi extensive diagnosis a few times - all passing completely. I have cleaned out the heatsinks with compressed air - though they didn't look too bad.  Keeping an eye on CPU temperatures - it does lock up some times when the temperatures are relatively low. Something I've noticed (and I don't know if it's a red herring or not) is that the system fan tends to not spin as much as it used to - ie I don't notice hearing it.  I've tried to roll back my BIOS - but haven't been able to - in Windows it tells me I can't go back, and in 'bios' it tells me it can't find the signature. Any help at this point would be appreciated.  I'd hate to have to throw the system out - it is still a ve... Hi, I have had my Elitebook for almost 5 years now. It currently runs Windows 10 Pro 64-bit with 16 GB of RAM. I'm still running on the installed Hitachi 500 GB HDD, but it's getting a little slow for my taste and I'm worried it might fail at any time. I've been hoping to replace the 500 GB HDD with a 500 GB SSD from Samsung by cloning it, then wipe the old HDD completely, and THEN replace the optical bay with a new 2nd HDD of some unspecified capacity. My problem now: I have about 300 GB's worth of data (went to an engineering school). I spoke to an HP rep on a live chat who told me that the largest supported capacity for an SSD (that can only be in the primary slot) is 256 GB and the largest supported capacity for an HDD in the replacement bay is 500 GB. Rather than move and link my entire USER's folder to the 2nd HDD (which is possible but still confusing for me at this point), I'd like to get a second opinion from someone in the HP community. Is the capacity limitation a matter of drive height? BIOS limitation? Is it still possible to get a 500 GB SSD instead? I've seen in various forums that the user had a larger drive than suggested. Thanks.

Dear EliteBook users,Did anyone try - and succeed - adding some memory module to the primary memory slot underneath the keyboard of an EliteBook 8560w?I needed some extra memory and successfully added two modules to the slots below the bottom cover. But I needed more, and had to add it to the remaining slot just below the keybord. For that I had to remove the keyboard, but that turned out to be an impossible task. The user-guide ("Getting Started", p.45 and on) tells you how to do that, but that is definitely not correct. For instance, there is no "keyboard release cut-out", as indicated in p.46. Also the force you have to exert on the keyboard back-side is dangerouly hight (dangerous for the keyboard and for your fingers). Googling for that did not help. In fact, a bit surprisingly, I have found other two user-guides for the same model, all of them with different technics to remove the keyboard, and all of them inapropriate. To make things worse, HP support in the Netherlands said they could do nothing for me, except sending me the same manuals I already have. And there is absolutelly no available channel to complain with HP about that!I'd be grateful for any information on that.Regards.G.Oliveira.?

Hello,i have problem with my EliteBook 8560w(With dual boot Windows 7 64bit and Linux Mint 17.3 if its important). When I plug it in AC charger it turns on by itself and after 2-3 sec. it shutsdown without warning. After shutting down the laptop can't be turned on using the power button. This occurs everytime I plug it in the charger. I get the same problem when I place the battery. I tryed the following: removing RAM, removing HDD, removing BIOS battery. Everytime the laptop turns on itself immediately when plugged in then shuts down after 2-3 sec. Its not heating problem either, because fan check is passing and I have recently replaced heatsink paste. When I plugged off the power button from the motherboard, the laptop stopped turning on when pluged in, but there is no way I can turn it on. Any suggestions what can be the cause of the problem and what solution can I try?Thank you in advance.

My hp elitebook 8560w workstation has suddenly stopped working. It does not power up from the power button anymore. After several attempts, I managed to power it up, yet in a very unusual way. In order to turn it on, I have to remove battery and unplug the charger, press the power button once, return the battery and press the Quick Web button. Only by doing so, the lapton turns on normally.   Couple of other things to notice as well. First, when the Laptop enters the energy-saving mode, it shuts down completely. Second, the Windows 7 welcome sound comes late (roughly 5-6 min. after boot-up) I know that these symptoms might be caused by different concurrent issues, but I would appreciate it, if you can help me out with this case.  Thank you in advance

I know in the past it was noted that you could not install these cards in a whitelist enabled BIOS, but has HP changed or updated the ability to install these cards on these specific older computers? If not, PLEASE HP, help your existing users. Please remove the whitelist from these older BIOS, specifically the ELITEBOOK 8560W. Thanks.

A:Intel wireless-ac 7260 with Elitebook 8560w

You still have the whitelist. It is not present in computers having an Intel Core 4th gen and higher CPU, but yours is second gen so the whitelist is still a problem for you. People have been asking for "de-whitelisted" BIOS for these machines for years and it has never happened so I can't hold out any hope it ever will.  These two devices will work: Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 802.11 3x3 a/g/n WiFi Adapter 572511-001Intel Centrino Advanced N 6205, 2x2 a/b/g/n WiFi Adapter 631954-001 The 6300 takes 3 antenna and the 6205 only two. Both are 2.4 and 5 ghz compatible devices and are pretty good wireless cards, just not 802.11ac.  https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-n-6300AGN-Wirless-THINKPAD-572511-001/dp/B01EDT6I2C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UT... https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-631954-001-Intel-PCI-express-Wireless/dp/B00TI8CMX8/ref=sr_1_1?ie... The above are very strong wireless cards, particularly the 6300 with 3 antennae if your laptop has 3 antennae. I am sure it has at least 2. I wish I could link you to a workable 802.11ac card but I cannot and these are the best you can get.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

I just got a refurbished Elitebook 8460p on Thursday. I plugged it in and charged it to 100% with no problems,  everthing was fine.  Friday i noticed the laptop was not charging, the charge indicator light was out, though the charger was still plugged in and had been since the inital charge the day before. While checking everything I could think of I shut off the laptop then removed and replaced the battery; the charge indicator light came back on but the laptop would not power on. I removed and replaced the battery again; the indicator light went out but the Laptop powered on. I removed and replaced the battery a third time; the charge indicator light turned back on but again the laptop would not turn on. I left it like that over night.Saturday morning I removed and replace the battery again, and again the charge indicator light went out but the laptop powered on. However, even though the charge indicator light was on all night, it was obvious the laptop had not been charging during that time.As of Saturday I  can not get the charge indicator light to come on any longer. If the laptop is plugged in while the battery is removed, the charge indicator light blinks white but the laptop will not turn on. it would seem like the battery needs to be replace but because the laptop won't turn on without one I don't think that will solve the problem. What should I do?

A:Elitebook won't charge

From where did you buy it? It could be the AC adapter but it could be something more serious. The battery might also be bad but I do not think so. The fact that it will not run on AC power with the battery out is the key diagnostic point.

Hello fellow techies,
I have a situation with my Compaq Evo N600c battery or something in that directions, so I need possible solutions. My laptop needs to be plugged in at all times, which makes it frustrating because its a portable laptop. If it becomes unplugged the laptop will turn off within 10 seconds flat. I fear that this will, if it hasnt already done so, mess up my electric circuits among other components. Can any of you suggest or recommend options I can use to diagnose the situation. I would like to find out what the problem is, whether I should buy a new battery or some component or prong that I need to replace? Thanks for the feed back!

Linda

A:Battery will not charge or hold charge?!?!

Yup, sounds like a battery problem.

First, make sure the battery has a charge. Most laptop batteries have a button on them somewhere you can push that will give you the power level. Alternativly, there should be a utility in windows or the BIOS that will allow you to check the power level.

If the battery has no charge and isn't charging, then replace it with a known good one and see if it will charge up when the laptop is plugged in.

If the good battery won't charge up, then there is a problem with your motherboard.

If the battery has charge but won't power the system, then there is a problem with your motherboard too.

If this is the case, then the best you can do is contact the laptop manufacturer and get them to replace the motherboard.

The issue is when the charge plug is plugged in and hovering over the battery icon it says that battery is charging.  However the battery is not charging but discharging until the laptop switches off.  The only way for the battery to charge again is to deplete the battery until the laptop is unresponsive when the power button is pushed to switch lap top on.  Once there is no residual power in the battery it will start charging again to 100% after which the cycle repeats, discharge.
Things I have tried.
Latest Bios update - no change
Another A/C charger - worked ok for a few days
Replaced battery - no change
Bios settings - reset to default (info related to battery and A/C charge reports all good)
F12 - Dell diagnostics, reports all good
When Battery is disconnected the laptop works normally
The laptop charge socket seems tight and secure
I have searched the internet exhaustively but have not found this same issue reported.  The only feasible way I can use the laptop is to disconnect the battery.
Can anyone suggest anything?
I would also like to disable the battery instead of having to open it up to disconnect, is this possible?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks
Andrew

Ok this might be easy..it might not (COMPAQ M2105)

I ended up replacing my motherboard for a model with more features (SD readers blah blah).

I took it all apart and put it all back with the new board in...now when i go into windows (and even before while booting)...the orange lights would come on for a second...then beging to flicker

while in windows...it just will either not charge the battery..or flicker from AC to battery

i CAN power the unit on with the battery alone, and i CAN power the unit with the cord alone...

lastly, my old motherboard (which had a HD connector problem)...still WILL charge the battery...so i'm sure its not the battery...i don't think...

i also dont' think its the AC adapter since it is the same piece I used on both motherboards.....

what to do................

A:compaq M2105 laptop - battery will not charge, flickers from AC/battery

Hopefully you are experienced in working on and repairing laptops/notebooks... and you carefully handeled the replacement motherboard and didn't damage it. Repairing laptops takes considerable skill and caution.

It does sound like the "new" motherboard is bad unfortunately. How did you handle the "old" operating system restore to the "new" motherboard?

Hello.
I've been using a Dell inspiron 1545 from about 3 years now and exactly after 2 years of my buy, the battery failed and it started showing me to replace the battery and always notified me about contacting dell for a new battery.
I didn't take this of much concern so i just ignored the message and kept on using my battery with my adapter plugged in. After 4-5 months of such usage, My battery completely failed and doesn't even offer me even a minute of backup, when i remove the power socket. Then i realized the importance of a new battery and then bought a new battery from Dell.
Its the same battery with the same specs and also the same family type. After i removed my defected battery, I replaced my new bought Dell battery and realized that my battery is working fine. its charging well but at some time, it says "Plugged in, But not charging" Which is rare for any new battery, which is bought brand new.

This is how it looks now after i remove the AC adapter plug and when i depend on the battery backup. it is providing me a backup, but I see a yellow exclamatory mark beside it. Which I think should not be present. it also says "Low battery" when there's already 99% of battery left!
I've also followed some online steps
1) updated by BIOS to the latest  2) Followed some other steps like uninstalling the battery ACI in the device manager and etc...
i would love to get this problem solved. I'm using a PA-12 family adapt... Read more

A:Bought a new dell battery and still my laptop battery doesn't charge!

Hi Utkarsh. I Actually FIXED this problem months back. and I exactly want to help you on this so that you can fix it yourself too..
the problem which is creating your battery to show an exclamatory mark is your power settings.
so follow these steps to get rid of that sign and a perfectly working battery.
1) Click on your battery icon (left click) you should see an option called " More power options" at the bottom of the popup.
click "More power options"
2) Now you will be taken to your control panel where you can see all of your power plans and under each plan, you will see an option called "Change plan settings"
3) Click on "Change plan settings" for your active power plan. Now you will get redirected to another control panel window, where you can see two kind of power options to get adjusted. that is, when you battery is plugged and when your battery is unplugged.
4) Don't touch those options, just click on "Change advanced power settings" at the bottom left of that window. THIS IS THE AREA WHERE WE NEED TO FIX!
5)After you click on "Change advanced power setttings", you will see a POWER options popup, go to the bottom and then you can see something called "Battery" with a plus sign on the left. click it.
6) Now you just have to change the levels for the following values
--> Critical battery level ( you can change it to 10%)

My G700 has had this issue recognizing its own OEM battery since I got it, and there is a long drawn out way of trying to resolve this, but the core problem I believe is that when the battery is Fully Drained it can't Self Identify as an OEM battery, so the laptop won't charge it.  Without charge, it will never get out of this state. Problem:  Battery not recognized correctly as OEM, so won't chargeFix:  Charge battery at least a little bit Yes, I know it won't charge, so how do you perform fix? Plug into power and take battery in and out 5-10 times, leave battery in and remove and replug power cord in side of laptop 5-10 times.  Then leave for 15 minutes, then boot normally. Battery will now be recognized!  Why because you managed to get just enough juice in there while trying to identify the battery 10x or so, for the battery to be able to successfully identify itself when you did start it up. This is a HACK fix, but way better than uninstalling, reinstalling power software, BIOS software and device drivers a number of times (which does not work all that well, I have found). Hope this helps you, let me know! OHHH, and keep your battery charged at least a little to prevent this from happening, and turn power off when not using.  I am not sure if this is just some faulty batteries or all batteries, let me know if other batteries behave better than mine. Best,Mark Eckdahl

HP g6-1b60us Notebook PCHere is the situation and symptoms. Battery not charging. Battery icon indicates battery being charged, but it sits at 5%. Have bought a replacement HP battery and that battery will not charge also (it sits at 50%, which I assume is the initial charge it came with). Run the HP Support Assistant and both batteries fail the test saying that cell 4 is bad (cells 1 to 3 have charge, but cell 4 has a 0 reading, even in the new battery). (Is there a problem accessing/charging cell 4?)When the battery is installed and the AC adaptor is unplugged, and the laptop is turned off, the battery charge LED shows a white LED (red/amber indicates that it is charging the battery); now the only time the LED goes out is when the battery is physically removed. Before the problem began, the battery charge LED would be off when the battery was installed and the charger was not being used. Now the battery charge LED goes off only when the battery is physically removed. What I have tried:Cleaned the contacts.Bought a new HP battery.Tried the complete discharge method of turning the laptop off, removing the power cord and battery and holding the power on key for over 30 seconds.Have done safe restarts.Reset to HP recommended settings.Suggestions/recommendations?

My battery all of a sudden won't charge. The computer works with remaining battery (when AC is not plugged in). The computer works with the battery removed when plugged in. But if battery is in and the computer is plugged into the outlet, it does not charge the battery, nor does it recognize that it is plugged in. It only tries to run on the remaining battery. WHen the battery is in and the computer is using the AC adapter, I get a blinking white light next to the plug for the AC adapter. I have two separate batteries, and it is doing the same thing on both batteries. I have tried deleting the  Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and the Microsoft AC Adapter in the Device Manager section. It didn't fix my problem. I also used HP Support Assistant's HP Battery Check diagnostic tool. It says my "battery is functioning correctly, but the AC adapter is not attached. To completely test your battery, please attache the AC Adapter." The strange thing is, my AC adapter is plugged in, but the computer thinks it is not attached. So it is not recognizing my AC adapter when the battery is in. But does recognize and use the AC adapter when the battery is removed.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a fix? Thank you!

Hi Guys,

I have replaced the battery of my laptop after using it on AC supply for about year after my old battery died.

I get this error message.
"The AC power adapter type cannot be determined
Battery may not charge.
This problem might be solved by:
Connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher."

But I am using a 65W Dell Adapter that I got with my laptop.
BTW, I tried the steps for disc AC >> Start>>Uninstall MS ACPI >> Insert battery>> Restart. This process did not yield any favorable results.

Please help!!!
Thanks,
Nitin

Hi,
When I switch on my laptop today, I got the warning "Warning battery cannot be identified. System cannot charge the battery." If I plugin my adapter, laptop is running on AC power, if I remove the plugin, laptop is turned off. I have downloaded latest BIOS update but still the problem persists.
Details: Dell Inspiron 3521, Windows 10, latest BIOS V14.
Please help!

Thanks,
C.S Harsha

Is the battery OEM or an aftermarket battery?  How old is the battery? I know of Windows 7 OS having issues with recognizing some batteries and were relatively easy to fix.  I do not know if it carried over to Windows 10.  I will have to look up the article to find any relevance.

User comes in my office and lost the battery clip. The clip you use to release the battery. When i use a pen to open the clip i can eject the battery and reseat it, but the laptop will not boot from the battery and will not charge the battery. Is there a way to make the laptop know the battery is present without the lock clip? and how does this clip work? I think this notebook can work fine the next couple of years. Or is anybody has a battery clip for the hp probook 6550b, i will be pleased if you can send it to me, i will pay for the stamps ofcourse.
